2000KM Around New Zealand with the X100V

- I drove 2000kms around the south island of New Zealand, capturing my experiences with the Fujifilm X100V.
A lot of work went into making this video. I love making visul diaries as it serves as a documentation of my sensory experiences at a certain point in time. Rewatching visual diaries takes me back to that very point in time, so I may relive that moment over and over again.
I have also learnt a lot about the video making process throughout the creation of this one. I've discovered a lot of new techniques, but also realised I made a lot of mistakes. It has helped greatly in developing my growth as a videographer. Also, trying to compress my entire experience into a sub 20 minute video was quite a struggle.
Sit back, grab a beverage and enjoy the ride.

A visual treat enhanced with natural sound and minimal use of canned music. Excellent. Well done.
Beautifully simple showcasing what New Zealand has to offer!
I am moved by the beauty of the concept, the tansitions, the photos, the sound of birds or natural elements. What an inspiration and what a talent^^
Thankyou for the kind words Didier 🙏
love how "raw and authentic" your vids feel. no cheesy background music...just sounds from the environment and great footage along with great photos.
TOP Quality. You’re an artist. There are transitions that wow 😮
Thanks Antonio!
A wonderful piece of work. Big thanks
A meditative story. Well done!

Thanks Kieran 🙏
Amazing documentation
I really enjoyed this man. Relaxing ;)
Cheers Alex 🙇🏻♂️
Jay, simply visually beautiful, technically masterful &, of all, sensory immersive. Perhaps a photo book of your NZ journey? ✌🏼& 📸 18:28
No photobook, but maybe a zine? 😏
Masterpiece!! Love it!! Recently got X-T1(+XF35mm f/1.4) and can't wait to take it to NZ.
Lovely! Definitely recommend shooting in astia or velvia 😁
I enjoyed your holiday. Thanks for letting me tag along, albeit vicariously. Beautifully put together and I loved your stills. You captured a lot of the wow factor of NZ.
It's definitely a place worth revisiting, so many unexplored places I wanted to shoot
@@JayRegular NZ is still on my bucket list. I was planning a trip but then Covid arrived. Back to planning.
Fantastic and enjoyable style og video. Just pictures, sounds and b-role’ish… and no talking. Love it 😍👍👍
Thanks man!
Nice work mate, I know how much time and effort goes into these sorts of videos - well done!! Some great photos and some cool locations and coffee!
Cheers! As a fellow creative, you know 😉
Beautiful video and pictures, having done this trip many years ago, your work just makes me wanting to go back.... thanks a lot for sharing
Hopefully not much of the landscape has changed since the last time, NZ is a place of untouched beauty
congratulations Jay, nicely crafted, look forward to your next destination
Loved it!!! Great work!!
Thanks Alan!

Wow I had to pause at 13:14 and admire how beautiful it is, great video and photos 👏
Great stuff man, looks like a lovely time away. Hard pressed to pick a favourite photo.
It's just one of those countries where you point at any direction with the camera and it's a landscape vibe
What an experience, loved it 🤩
Well done man! You captured some beautiful scenes. New Zealand looks amazing 😍
Cheers! Needs a part 2, I missed out on Milford sound 😔
Very well made video! Well done Jay! I really enjoyed this! Incredible shots!
Thankyou Lucy 🙏
Almost 20min and it passed so fast ! That was beautiful Jay. You're quite a good landscape photographer I may say (apart from your street photography we see most often). Loved it.
Thanks Julien, I love taking landscapes while on holidays, very therapeutic compared to faster pace of street 😁
I love the direction your videos are heading, Keep it up Jay this was superb ✨
Thanks Tats! 🙏
Just … WOW ! Your diary is so calming and beautifuly produced ! Very inspiring ! I need to visit NZ asap ! Great work ! Ps: the sky at night with the stars .. with the X100v ? Wow !
Thankyou! The night sky was not taken with the x100v, it was with the xt4
Wow really great travel video and the transitions were awesome. 😯 Especially the intro was really well done. It was certainly also a really great trip for you. 👌
Imagine how jealous I was at the onsen spa. I had to get the broll before I could jump in 😭🤣
This is beautifully crafted story and your photos are stunning, well done Jay. 👍
Thanks for the support Colin!
i live in new zealand and im currently saving up for the x100v...this video just 100% solidified me buying the camera because the photos are just *chefs kiss*. hope you enjoyed your holiday here in aotearoa!
Just make sure you don't buy it for the current inflated price and you find it around the RRP! A few of the photos were taken on the xt4 with zoom lenses, but my most favourite photos were all off the x100v, I just love the natural look to the 35mm fov
@@JayRegular Its currently AUD$2000. How much is it in NZ? What would you recommend the correct price to purchase it is?
When it was first released in 2020 it was AUD$1400 so unless you can find a used one for that price today, I wouldn't really spend an extra 600 for it...
Sittin here in an airport watching this, wishing I could make travel videos like this.
Time to get into video 🎞️
Hey mate, beautiful photos - what recipes did you use to take the landscape shots? They look great :)
Top effort mate! Would love to hear you talk about the experience of making such a big project. I would love to undertake something even half as ambitious as this, but dont even know where to begin
Haha thanks man, you are one of the very few who actually want to know 😄 I might make a video about that in the future
Epic bro. Loved it. I’m heading to nz in a few weeks too. Sick shots.
You will enjoy it very much I'm certain 😁
@@JayRegular my 3rd time 😅
That good huh? 🤣
@@JayRegular pretty addictive. Especially after all this lockdown nonsense. Now just gotta figure out what gear NOT to take 🫠
Your video and photography makes me wanna go out and shoot! So beautifully captured ,,😍 what lens did you use for recording the videos?
Thanks! For the video I mostly shot with the Fuji 18-55 f2.8-4, I also used the viltrox 13mm F1.4
Hi Jay. I enjoyed your video on those settings for Fuji. Saw your vids on xs10 primarily as I'm thinking of getting one myself. Just wanting to ask, as a beginner I havent fully done much of street photography and would like to start one with Fuji. I was from Sony rx100. Envy that you got x100v, as it is out of stock, was thinking of xs10s or xt30ii. Could you recommend? I'd like to bring a camera for travelling, photos and some video too. Thanks! Ps. What did you record this video with, is it xs10? Tks!
If you want to do everything with one camera, I would recommend the xs10, I shot this video with the xt4, it has better video capabilities
well done Jay! looks like you had really nice trip to NZ!!
You would love NZ! The landscape potential is very high
Nice work! I was at the exact same spot in 7:45. If you have to pick, which one if your favourite place in NZ?
Hard to pick just one! I would say Twizel/lake tekapo were my most memorable ones
Would love to know how you do the panoramic shots -beautiful photos.
Longer focal length lens, manual focus, take a sequence of shots that overlap slightly with each other, import into Photoshop and use the merge function
Hey Jay!
Really amazing journey and great work either in videography or photography. Very enjoyable to watch... :-)
Are you using a pro mist or glimmer glass filter by the way?
Cheers!
Thanks Kamil. Yes, I did use a mist filter 😁 love the softness it delivers
Cool! Yeah it really gives a smoother look.
I consider the Tiffen Glimmerglass 1...
As I see your stunning landscape shots:
Did you ever consider the wide conversion lens for your X100V?
I am still not sure if I should spend the money because I sold my X-S10 so it might become a valuable companion for my "lonely" camera :-)
No I haven't tried the wide conversion for the x100v, I'm on the fence about it. I bought the x100v because I didn't want to think about changing lenses, buying a wide adapter makes decision making harder 🤣
Hehe, that's exactly the reason why I kept the X100V only and did not pull the trigger on the WCL yet :-P
And then the price of course...
Great vid well done. Did you do the astro with the x100v. I have one and an xt4 16/55mm and 70/300mm
Thanks Paul, I could have done it with the x100v, but the battery life would have not held up, and I didn't have a power bank. So I used the xt4 with viltrox 13mm f1.4 phenomenal lens
Nice video essay! :)
Thankyou! 👊👊
Did you shoot the video with the Fuji?
Yes I did, with the X-T4
Jay who is the girl?
My wife?
promo sm 😁
