This video got added to my suggestions after watching your X100V accessories video (I just purchased one myself). I've been an amateur photographer for more than 25 years and I almost skipped over this video. But I'm so glad I did not. This is THE BEST job of explaining the exposure triangle I've ever seen (or read). I showed it to my wife who was as terrified of my X100V as my 4/3 micro and DSLRs...in under 10mins she said "OMG! I actually get it!". Nice work mate. 👍 And a here's a second thumbs-up for shooting here in Sydney. 👍😃
Thankyou so much for the kind comment! And haha, I actually wrote the script for this with my missus in mind. How can someone who has no interest in photography still be able to understand the basics without all the jargon? 🤣
This is the best explanation of the exposure triangle I’ve seen. Will be getting an X100V as my first digital camera. I’m sure I’ll refer to this video many times. Can’t wait for the camera to arrive.
I rarely comment, but man this video is great. I've shot for years and I have experimented lots with aperture and shutter speed, but ISO was always confusing. Rewatched it twice immediately!
Seriously Jay... I have a X100V and I've learned by myself how to shoot manual, but you've confirmed everything in this video. You've made it very simple... thank you, that is a very very nice helpful video, very nice of you. Thanks !
Dude! This is the best of the best video explaining the subject in a simple, easy to understand and with clear practical examples. I know, I have watched about 20 videos on this subject, 2 or 3 are really good but for me this is the best. Thank you!
I already have all of this down but your tutorial is by far the best in UA-cam, I had watched Peter McKinnon's one about this but this is just so much better.
I definitely recommend shooting in manual because YOU choose, you have total freedom of how you want the picture to look like. It might be overwhelming at first but this video explains it perfectly imo
For me ISO always take last place. I would always consider as first if I want to take an image of fixed elements or moving subjects (or some kind of movement in the picture), and from there I prioritize aperture or shutter speed. In the ideal world you would always want ISO as low as possible.
Thanks, you did a nice job of explaining shooting in manual. I shoot in manual 90% of the time and it is no dought the best way you can control the 3 elements. I've tried to teach family members how and why you would want to use manual mode. I think for some people it's just easier to shoot in A or S mode. Fuji cameras are one of the easiest to use in manual, set the manual aperture ring, and adjust the front and rear dial. I set one for shutter and the other for ISO. That said there is a place for A priority at times. The hardest thing for a new user is the thought process you outlined in the video. As a seasoned photographer, this thought process is just part of my workflow and until you understand the process you are always going to hit and miss.
Well said Mark, I think the introduction of automation in cameras came as a necessity not only for working professionals who knew everything and valued their time and money, but more for companies to target general consumers who didn't care about theory and just wanted to see good results quickly. Granted this was all during the time before mobile phones had decent cameras. Nowadays we are starting to see people, the younger generation especially, trying to differentiate themselves from automation by going back to fully manual film cameras, appreciating photography more for the 'experience' of the process rather than the result. I can only imagine the day when we can capture photos with a blink of our eyes and photo editing programs become fully automated and produce the best results without us lifting a finger. The latter has already started, but hey, what a time to be alive.
@@JayRegular Yes, just about any skilled photographer can create stunning images with just about any camera. I started in digital from the beginning, remember 1.5 megapixels with about 2-second shutter delay? Wow, we are lucky!
Thank for you for another informative video. Appreciate the pacing, quality of information and great editing. It's also awesome to see an Asian Australian putting out great quality video content on UA-cam. Can I ask/recommend/nag you to do a detailed video on the different shooting modes? Covering AF-C, AF-S and AF-M. Keen to see how you work with and apply the different functions on the X100V. Keep up the great work Jay. Genuine fan of what you're doing and encourage you to keep it up.
Thankyou for the kind words and support Mr. Quach! Yes I will be covering the different shooting modes for the X100V and a lot more! there will be a lot of topics to cover for this camera, and I will come around to addressing them over time!
Thank you for this. I want to start relying less on auto on my X100V. I’m not a technical person but you made it all seem so simple. Time to practise now!
This helps a lot especially for beginners like me! The case by case explaination helps to understand why some of my pictures were blurry due to shaky hands
Nicely explained. However, why would you shoot manually with all the smart gear that is available nowadays. It might be useful for landscape photography and for not moving subjects when you have planty of time.
It's very ingenious of you to use your running hand for demonstrating the differences in slow and fast shutter speeds, while tripodding your camera to make all other conditions equal. Many instructors are complacent to just show you photos taken with different shutter speeds. Congratulqtions, Jay. You've done a nice work here that benifits many! 👍
I bought an udemy course on the exposure triangle.. this one blows it out of the water, is an hour shorter, much more engaging and easily understandable. I feel dumb now. Thank you, really!
Every previous time I’ve read up on th exposure triangle it makes my head spin and my eyes cross…except for now. Your explanation was clear and insightful. Thank you so much!
Had photography class in university and all that explained but very poorly, found myself taking photos and having to ask more expericenced friends for help because of how lost I was!! This finally explained it to me clearly, thank you so much!
What a video! I've had an X100f and didn't now how to use it, now I have a Xpro 2 and am determined to learn and use it. Best video on how to learn the exposure triangle!

Simple and clear. A very good job of explaining for all those who want to understand how it works.
Thankyou Christian!
This is the best explanation of the exposure triangle I’ve seen. Will be getting an X100V as my first digital camera. I’m sure I’ll refer to this video many times. Can’t wait for the camera to arrive.
Excellent method for learning to use Manual mode. Thumbs up and Thanks!

I wish I had this video when I was first getting into photography, you’re good at explaining!
Thank you! I made this video also because I wished someone had explained this to me simply when I first started learning photography!
so adorable little running hand lollllllll
It's not a tutorial if it doesn't include some cool hand action right? 😂

Probably the best and most underrated video on basics of manual photography!!!Love every bit of this video.
Been understanding this concept for several years and I just fully understood it now. Thanks for this ❤
Best teaching of photography
Even though I learned that over 40 years ago with a K1000, it was nice to see it presented again while I had a bowl of pasta. Thank you!
this is the best explanation of exposure triangle in youtube. thanks

Awesome video and commentary 👌
A well-structured video, thanks.
So much value on this video! Thank you
I think if everyone had a chance to shoot with an old 35MM film camera it makes everything much more straightforward.
that is very true, no way of cheating with analogue
Best tutorial u can find on UA-cam, end
Thank you so much for this ! Very informative, yet in a simple and approchable way !
First time I understood this. It's that good.
Bro, can you make fuji x100v video settings tutorial? Nobody made it yet 🙁
Thank you for this breakdown! Sharing it to all my beginner friends.
Top man. Your videos are really very helpful and are some of the best on the internet. Thanks for taking the time to do these and share your passion.

it has never been so clear as this video thank you!
Excellent explanation in demonstration!
Nicely explained. However, why would you shoot manually with all the smart gear that is available nowadays. It might be useful for landscape photography and for not moving subjects when you have planty of time.
There aren't many use cases where you would be shooting full manual these days. It's more about understanding the concept of photography

It doesn't matter how long you have been playing with cameras, this is still relevant and well instructed. Nice job, Jay.
Thank you so much for this video. Very fundamental. Things I’ve forgotten since I’ve been reliant on Aperture/Shutter priority. :)
Thanks for simplifying this concept and making it easier to understand! Very helpful :D
