    Have I ever mentioned I love eating honey? Well, on this adventure I don't eat very much, but we certainly processed over 300 pounds of it.
    Thanks to the help from Good Time Charlie and Dr. Billy, we finally got around to running all our frames of honey through our machines. These frames came from the boxes we had been bringing in for the last week from our hive to get all of the hives down to 2 deep supers to go through the winter on.
    Now for many of you, this is not the first time you have seen how we process the honey here at St. Joseph Abbey. However, it is the first time I've showed the clean up process. That's right, I give away all my secrets in how I clean up the honey house after we process our honey.
    Now I did not get a lot of honey from our fall harvest, but it is rather outstanding tasting, in my opinion, and if you'd like to buy some of our Abbey Honey, I'd be more than happy to send you some. The cost is $9.00 for a one pound, plastic bottle, and $8.00 for shipping. If you want more than one bottle, the shipping cost is still $8.00 for up to 4 bottles, but each bottle is still $9.00. As soon as I get your check, I will send it out. Make the check payable to St. Joseph Abbey but send the letter to:
    Mr. Ed
    75376 River Rd.
    St. Benedict, La. 70457
    If you'd like, I'll even sign the bottle.
    As I near the 80,000 number of subscribers to the channel, I am ever grateful to all of you for your interest in my wrangling bees for the monks. God's peace to all. Mr. Ed

      I busted out laughing when I read your comment concerning how meticulous I am when it comes to cleaning up, and the only reason I laughed so hard was because just recently you shared with me how much you love to vacuum floors, and not only floors but especially rugs. It was particularly interesting when you told me how you have mastered the art of vacuuming a rug by walking backwards and pulling the vacuum so as not to leave any tracks on the rug. Now, if only you would take that much interest in learning how to identify a queen bee, I'm positive you would locate them more often. See you at the Louisiana Beekeepers Association Convention on December 5th, it's going to bee a blast. God's peace brother.

      My dad served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, and when he retired he became a cabinet maker. He built furniture for all 6 of his children and mom, as well as the public, in his small cabinet shop in New Orleans. It was from his hands and craft that I was taught the love and appreciation of being a wood worker myself. Your fathers trade is just as cool. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

    Jeff, thank you for the blessings in the video. My grandfather was a Mexican immigrant to this country, and signed up with the Army to earn his citizenship. He fought with distinction on the front lines in Korea and was decorated for Valor. My father keeps his citation in his office.
    Before his untimely death in a car accident while my father was a boy, he was honorably discharged after the war and started a family with my grandmother, living out the American Dream. He's buried at a national cemetery in California.
    Love the videos! Keep them coming, and God bless! Thank you for your father's service and sacrifice.....they were certainly all better men from a tougher generation!

      In my opinion, veterans are one of our nations greatest treasures, they represent the truest form of selfless love, serving others first and foremost. They deserve our greatest respect, admiration, along with a debt of gratitude that can never be full repaid for what they sacrificed for me. My dad served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, and he retired chief Master Sargent after 27 years of service in 1969. In 1995 he passed away and is buried at the National Cemetary in Biloxi, Mississippi. Brother Jeff....what a treat to get to watch the machines in process. All of us armchair quarterbacks can observe and make our suggestions! I think a steam ginny would be a perfect cleanup tool. The high heat liquifies the goo and probably sanitizes at the same time. You have lots of nice equipment, would you care to share the approximate investment in equipment alone? Very nice set up. Considering that honey sells at an average of $15 a quart (here in KY), 30 gallons was well worth the efforts and cleanup involved.
    God bless you and all your helpers. Try to not cut your fingers off!

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  4 роки тому

      Fifteen dollars a quart is a bargain , we sell ours for $9.00 a pound, and at that price, it is very fair price for our area. I've never put the pencil to the actual price of the equipment due to the fact that it was all purchased over a period of years, 7 to be exact, and it makes swallowing the pill a lot easier to do. However if I were to estimate, just the uncapper, extractor, and the separator were about 15 grand. I really don't want to think of the cost of all the other equipment we have, but the reality is all of our equipment was donated by a lot of VERY generous people that wanted the honey ministry here at the abbey to succeed. Thank you for your blessing and I pray your recovery is on track. God's peace brother.

      Carole Warner Thank you Carole. I appreciate your welcome. I am going back and watching old videos and I do enjoy them. I have a disease called Lupus and it can be very difficult to balance being a wife, mom, and just me when I’m battling illness. But videos like this keep my mind off things, and remind me that God has given us Grace. That is something I too easily forget. I have always wanted to live in the North West. My favorite days are cloudy, drizzly, cool days. We may get rain down here but it comes usually in sudden terrific storms that pour for an hour till the sun comes out again to cause steam to rise from the street. But this is my home, and my parents and sister and her family are all here, so I love it for that. I wish you a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

    • @carolewarner101

      @@dianeluke1746 Oh my gosh Diane...I'm so sorry. Lupus can be scary and is incredibly hard. My best friend from childhood was recently diagnosed with it, and that's after 40 years of degeneration from MS (multiple sclerosis). What a challenge it must be for you just personally, not to mention while trying to be a wife and mother. I truly don't know how she does it, but my girlfriend's motto is "JAFGO!" Just another friggen growth opportunity! It may sound crazy, but in some ways those who have the greater challenges to overcome are blessed more so than others. That's because they simply can't take anything for granted and they know that. They have to get up in the morning and face significant challenges and generate themselves and their lives every single day just to overcome and move forward, while others who have things relatively easy in comparison become complacent and take their life for granted, often until it's too late and they have major regrets when their time here is done...
      I feel that in general we live in a society that has gotten distracted from what really matters in life and we get caught up in comparing ourselves and our lives to others and/or to some idea, which often leaves us (me!) feeling anxious, dissatisfied and stuck focusing on negatives and what we don't have. But you said it right. Being alive is truly a gift of Grace that we have the opportunity to experience and live. But that's a lot easier to keep in touch with when things are going well than when times are really tough. You have a lot of courage.
      You're obviously a person who seeks and works on focusing on the positive and that's really inspiring; especially to all of us who really only have 'first world problems' when you break it down. Everyone has challenges, but overall we are very blessed here in the US. I hope you can keep your positive attitude through the challenges you face each day. Watching Mr. Ed at work will surely help you do that! Happy thanksgiving to you too.

    Ouch! Bummer you cut up your finger during the clean up. Hope it heals up quick.
    It's so nice the way the honey hut has been built so that nothing goes to waste and even the rinse water with it's diluted honey and wax goes back to the bees! Also a great way to avoid clogging up your septic tank with wax.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  4 роки тому

      There are lots of sharp edges around those machines, but the finger is all healed up, probably from dipping it into honey so many times. I'd love to have the bees come in and clean the hut, but they really aren't particular as to where they are when the relieve themselves. Consequently, they'll just have to eat outside. God's peace Carole.

      @@JeffHorchoff Oh wow... I confess I did have the thought that letting the girls come in to clean things up directly would save you some clean up time, but I hadn't thought about the part about their "droppings" everywhere. And I suppose the same would be true in terms of little bodies accumulating of those that might expire in the hut, and inside the equipment no less! And worse, there would also be wasps and other insects attracted to both the honey and the wax and even potentially other critters for that matter, not just honey bees. Can you imagine surprising a skunk who'd gone in there after the honey AND the bees?! Ugg, what a nightmare!
      The way you have it set up, it concentrates all the "wastes" all in one spot just there outside the drain pipe, keeping the hut closed to unwanted guests and their droppings. All while keeping that stuff out of the septic system. Clever to have the screw on cap on it too in order to keep bees and critters out of there when it's not being used to drain out the hut. Pretty brilliant design. Well done!
