    It's that time again, honey processing time that is, and this crop of honey was the biggest that I have ever done. Of course, I could never do it on my own, and this time we had lots of help from some really great folks. You already knew that Good Time Charlie would bee there, he's been there working with me all year long, and his wife Patrica. World famous Mike Barry got there early and left late, you need to go check out his UA-cam channel, Mike Barry Bees, great stuff. My buddy from the Arkansas Adventures, and co worker from the Post Office days, Chef Randy Smith. Wreck it Ralph showed up in the afternoon to relieve Scott and Heather, who worked tirelessly but had to go home and feed the cat. Then there was Preston Chatham, who's dad also worked with me at the Post Office and I have known since he was born. By the way, some of the video I used in this video was shot by Preston. It's very easy to know which video he shot, it's the really good stuff.
    So how much honey did we get? Well over 500 gallons, and that's being conservative. God has blessed us abundantly........again. God's peace to all. Mr. Ed

      I'm so glad you took the chance on a UA-cam recommended and watched. I love wrangling bees and relocating them to our bee yards where they spend the rest of their days, and just as much, I love sharing those experiences through my videos. I post a new video every Friday on some aspect of bee wrangling, and I look forward to hearing from you again. Thanks for watching this one. God's peace Jacob.

    This takes me back to when I was a kid! My granddad kept honey bees, part as a hobby and part for his apple trees, berries and other things in his vegetable garden. When it was time to harvest the honey, it like this video, was all hands on deck. I was always so proud to see his label on the jars in local grocery stores. He also seeded his very large lawn with white clover. It only took me one time to learn not to run through the grass bare-footed😎 Thanks for such a great video. People need to understand why honey costs a bit of cash and the work it takes to keep healthy hives and harvest the honey.

    I love cutouts, but honey processing is my favorite! I never get tired of watching. I’m so happy you added the back porch feeding frenzy, it’s always the perfect ending. Once again I am overwhelmed by these small creations of the Lord. They give us so much, and they only ask for fresh flowers, and enough nectar, pollen, and honey to keep them going. I hope your videos encourage people to not be afraid of these creatures, and the importance of maintaining a healthy variety of blooming trees, bushes, plants, etc...so that we keep honey bee colonies strong and thriving. Without bees our own food cycle would collapse. They are critical to our continued survival. I know I’m “preaching to the choir,” but it is channels like yours, dirt rooster, and JP that help to educate, and as a former educator myself, I can’t help but start to pontificate on the subject. 😊 What a wonderful harvest! I am hoping to start with a hive or two this year. I need to take a few classes and learn the basics first. Hello there Mr Ed.just a suggestion . I would have a temporary ramp made to go between the uncapper and the extractor so you are not dripping so much honey on the floor.thanks for your videos I enjoy watching.

    • @kat2641
      @kat2641 3 роки тому +4

      I was thinking the same thing a tray between the extractor an the cap tank draining back to the cap tank...less mess an more profit 👍

    • @robertdavis7282
      @robertdavis7282 3 роки тому

      I was thinking the same thing. That and a sump tank to filter out all of the wax before the honey gets barreled.

      Rest assured, by the next harvest there will bee some thing in place to catch all the honey that is being dropped, such a waste. Thanks for your suggestion and for watching. God's peace.

      Thank you very much for your kind words, it's so nice to hear that watching my bee wrangling adventures brings a certain calmness to your life. For me, the adventures are full throttle adrenaline, especially when the stinging goes on. I really love doing what I do with bees, thanks so much for watching and leaving a great comment. If you'd like to buy some of our Abbey Honey, I'd be more than happy to send you some. The cost is $10.00 for a one pound, plastic bottle, and $9.00 for shipping. If you want more than one bottle, the shipping cost is still $9.00 for up to 3 bottles, but each bottle is still $10.00. As soon as I get your check, I will send it out. Make the check out to St. Joseph Abbey but send the letter to:
      Mr. Ed

    I never saw a big blue bee feeding station before ! It reminds me of our chicken feeder - it is circular too, but it's made of galvanized metal.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  3 роки тому

      All feeder work under the same principal, put food in and have opens that allow it to be consumed, this one happens to be for bees, and it works really well. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

    Great harvest Jeff. Love watching. Wish I could have helped. Is there a special way you store the frames that had brood? I thought leaving them out in the open with light on them was all that was necessary to discourage moths. Thanks.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  3 роки тому +1

      The frames that have brood on them are stored inside of the honey house. I think that even if they were exposed to light, moths would still get into them, but inside the honey house they do perfect. I'm getting ready to make the video showing what I do with all the honey supers, stay tuned for that. God's peace Joe.

      As you are new to the channel I will fill you in a bit. I am the bee keeper for a group of Benedictine monks at St. Joseph Abbey located about 50 miles north of New Orleans. All you see me do is for the benefit of the monks and all the equipment belongs to them, but yes, I am very happy to be a part of this wonderful operation. Looking forward to hearing from you again, God's peace QB.

    My Grandpa had a Walter T Kelly 33 frame extractor and a basket style Maxant 4 frame extractor. A dadant knife type double sided uncapping unit. He also had 150 colonies of bees, and then the government subsidy stopped... he wasn’t happy about it. He passed away soon after that and I ended up with the stuff. I remember all the hard work of bee keeping. Great Videos Mr. Ed!
