    Thanks for the expertise, it will save a lot of money. For some more exercises I use an elbow immobilizer that I made myself from a heat-insulating tube, a very light, foamy material. Bought at the store materials for central heating, very cheap $ 2 for 2 m in length, cut to length, pull on hand and put a few thicker rubber bands for winter bottles or adhesive tape. Have a nice week.

    Hand splint is good and necessary, it has to be the right kind and right size, wear it right, wear it daily, on a right schedule, check it on a regular basic, along with regular ROM exercises...not a 100% cure, but it helps a great deal for some people...

    It would have been great to have known all this right after my stroke. Got useless splints, even splints that worsen spasticity (the famous arm sling). Will try finger extender to decrease spasticity in my fingers. Hope to see a next video on #therapytools. Thank you for all this useful information.

      i suffered from drop foot and turn in when walked, they wanted to fit me with a splint for my foot, I opted to relearn foot positioning in martisl arts, Along with Gate walking, i used the martial art foot wook to retrain my foot per say and walking,, I do suffer from drop foot , i use angle wieghts to help strengthing my foot when walking, I still have bad days,, but remember push forward..What might help with finger,, try lesrning different hand strike of martial arts and practice them..Another thing try jacks,, .YOu bounce a ball and scoop up the jaxs before and recatch the ball,, try doing push ups on your fingers,, also try squeezing tennis ball also to build up muscle and memorey,,.

    Hi! I’ve been waiting for this video 😊 for the resting hand splint: if we flatten it completely out so that the hand would be flat, is that more therapeutic for stretching the muscles in the fingers out?

    • @74777984
      @74777984 9 місяців тому

      No. I would advise going to an Occupational Therapist (OT) who knows how to splint for neurology, to assess what your problems & needs are. If you keep all your hand joints straight (extended) for extended periods, the collateral ligaments on either side of each knuckle (MCP joint) are kept in their shortest length & can eventually become shortened. This causes difficulty bending (flexing) the knuckles (MCP) joints which is an essential movement for hand function. Also your other finger joints can get stiff if not allowed to bend regularly. Your OT will assess you & may provide you with 1 or more splints depending on what exactly your starting point is & what your needs & goals are. If the problem is shortening of the extrinsic flexor muscles of the hand then you have to lengthen them again very gradually by serial progressive splinting with the fingers straight AND wrist extended (as when in prayer position 🙏) slightly more each time, 1-2 times a week. You can do yourself great harm unintentionally by using the wrong splints & wrong splint regimes. All the best in your recovery journey😊

    For the shoulder, I suggest taping and givmorh sling. It keeps arm in natural position. Never use cheap 20 dollar slings that keep arm flexed.

    Help.. My mom was doing pretty well in her recovery when she fell into a cabinet and whacked her affected arm pretty good. It was very bruised and painful but after two weeks the bruises are gone but its still somewhat painful. We tried doing some of the same passive movements and exercises we did before and it was much weaker than before. I am hopeful that after more time the pain will subside further and she can get back to where she was. Any insights or encouragement you might be able to share would be greatly appreciated 🙏💚

    4:30 in they gave me one in hospital expecting me to wear it eight hours a day but it hurt my thumb/wrist so bad within a week even after they adjusted it twice, I gave it back to them and flat out said sorry not happening the metal bar was so unforgiving
    keeping it in a claw position made no sense as I could now naturally maintain a claw but not straighten them out. my ping pong paddle looking splint arrives tomorrow based on your recommendations

    Why did you not recommend a knee brace that prevents hyperextension, such as this d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9ocXBfc2hhcmVk ? Hyperextending the knee is a bad habit that my PT people insisted that I do in order to help them prevent me from a potential fall (I am hemiplegic from a stroke 9 months ago). In retrospect, this is a bad habit to teach and develop, and now it must be unlearned.

    • @revdocrandy
      @revdocrandy 2 роки тому +1

      I’d also be curious about thoughts you might have on the MusicGlove from Flint Rehab. I used it regularly a couple of years ago.
      I started with 1 “grip” (thumb/forefinger) then added a second, then third before the pandemic AND move AND virtual school for the kids (my excuses). 😅
      I was making some good progress, but I will say it’s the toughest therapy I’ve ever done. It’s marketed as fun, but it’s the only therapy that has brought tears to my eyes (I originally lost all right side & speech).
      It does require a lot of commitment-I’d guess 30-60 minutes/day.
