This channel is such a blessing. Have found your videos so helpful for my clients!
You really are an angel Dr Tobias, Thank you so much for doing this I watch your videos daily!
Hi Tj! Thanks for watching. I hope this one helps you. :)
Thanks for this vid Dr T. I can relate to it exactly. I tend to hunch forward because it intuitively feels safer even though logically that does not make sense.. I
am constantly reminded to stand up straight but it’s hard to ignore that voice in my head telling me to be safe. I’m glad to know that’s a common situation.
Thank you for today this is my first time seeing this video
I watched this for a third time now. Wow. I have not had a stroke or anything like it. But since my husband passed away nearly five years ago, I have had to sit bent forward in order to sort and pack my household to relocate- not once but twice! Due to several early adult orthopedic problems and surgeries kneeling or crouching is out of the question. So I sit on something really low, hunched forward! Now I understand why I walk stooped - apart from intermittent backache. I am trying your exercises and really hope they help me walk upright - I used to have a very purposefully erect posture! I also follow a daily series of chair pilates which is strengthening and stretching various muscles and joints - I am determined to rectify this stooped over posture! Thank you for your vids and tips, really appreciate you! I sing semi professionally, so my core is quite strong - just need to add your recommendations.....
Hello….I have been watching and doing your exercise for about a month. Mostly for stretching….this video answered a lot of my questions. Sooooo… I am not tilting over because of my back surgeries. Makes since after watching the video.
It’s was amazing how straight I stood up while walking holding a pole behind my hips. I will continue. Thank you so very much.
Several of your videos have helped also❤️
I really love your channel. I’ve only recently found you. Just wow! Thank you.
Welcome to the community Lesley! We are glad to have you :) I hope these videos help!
Best therapist in the world ❤🤩🙌
Hi Tyrell! Glad to see you this week in the comments. Thanks for the kind words :)
@@rehabhqofficial pppppp
Absolutely 🤗
Recently found your channel and so many lightbulbs turning on. I’m a newish student of Tracy Anderson Method and your channel is a perfect companion. As I feel things release and balance I have the “why” and thorough description of the problem and can continue to work on it. Thank you for your wisdom and clear direction!!
Wow! I feel that I have completed a course of Stand Up 101! Full of such useful, practical info (as always) with great explanations of our bodies and how to move with determination!
Hi Joyce! I am so glad you found this one helpful! Thanks for watching and for the kind words :)
Love this..so helpful!
What is a afo
Excellent video! I didn't know so many others suffered this problem too.
Yes, it is a very common problem :)
Thanks Tara, You have helped me understand my sister in law better. She has heavy duty arthritis and resides in her hospital bed most of the time. Her PT is trying to get her to walk more.
Hello, I would like to thank you for all the videos...after my surgery (ICH, salvage operation was performed-
occipital) balance and coordination was affected. I wish to improve my balance and mobility. After 1 year of PT, I continue the exercises by myself by watching the videos. I continue to recover...you are a great help to me Dr. Tobias. Thank you so much. Appreciated!
Hi Nanette! Thanks for watching and for sharing your story. I am glad to learn that you are making progress!! Keep it up!
Very helpful. Thank you. I have Parkinson for 10 years This year I started bending Do you have videos for Parkinson patients with movement disorders?
Thank you so much for sharing the above. True you are an Angel ❤.I keep waiting for the new videos. Keep watching the videos i have saved
Incredibly helpful! I developed backache and getting more hunched over due to having to pack sort and lift my household before relocating, twice in 2 years! THAT is why it hurts to stand up straight and I have been frustrated not understanding what to change and get myself upright again, You have helped me incredibly - thank you!!!! I always was so aware, before, of having a good posture.....thought it had went together with the last of my sixties.....NOT SO! WOW!!!!
💫💛💫 Thank you Dr. Tara for bringing this up. It is such an ugly theme as it makes us look much older and sicker than we are. Having been sporty 2.5 years ago, it is really bad to walk bent over. For me it is pure fear of falling as the left knee is so unstable with the nerves not properly working. I practice putting the hips forward but only at home on my furniture walkways. It feels so good to stretch the hip out and walk straight and proud again. But it is dangerous outside so the bent position is a protection and makes the body basis larger. I'm working on it and will try your exercises.
Many greetings over the Atlantic and stay happy and healthy! 💫💛💫
Hi Nina!! I am so happy to connect again this week. Yes! You bring up so many points that are extremely common. I always love how aware you are of these problems and I love love love the creative ways you come up with to make yourself feel more stable. Progress is progress. Keep working on that posture! :) Chico and I sending love from across the pond 🌼

Yup, after 3 falls and a fractured hip due to MS foot drop, i have a bent over posture due to fear. Thanks for this reminder.

Hi Madison! Thank you for watching! I am so glad you found the information easy to digest. That is always my goal :)
An aso is an ankle brace. I wear one all the time and it really helps
Great video, I noticed I need two super tricks is high kneeling because it breaks the synergy of the extensor and the other against the abnormal synergy pattern is ankle dorsiflexion sitting with an outstretched leg. Thanks a lot for this, have a nice day.
Hi Darko! I am so glad you have identified these areas and are working on them. Thanks for sharing the extra tips!
Wow. Recovering from c6 quadriplegia ...this is great!

Thank you for this incredibly helpful video, Dr. T! Thanks to MS, I lean forward all the time when I walk or stand and I'm finally starting to understand why (and how to fix it!). This is the best neuro rehab channel on UA-cam.
Kate, thank you so much for the kind and generous "applause" 🙏 I am super appreciative and grateful to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and help you.
I love you R encouragement
Thank you for your clear explanations...
Hi Emire! Thank you for watching! I hope it helps you :)
For me it truly worsened after a Guillian Barre Syndrome attack that paralyzed me from the waist down 4 years ago. I´m just 66 yet, feel as if I look 80. I would love to improve!
Will try thank you 😊
Really wish I'd had this kind of advice sometime during the 5 years since my stroke. I had physio treatment to get me on my feet and walking, but nothing with this level of insight or expertise. I'm 6'3" and about 150kg so getting back to standing and walking was quite the struggle. Luckily I was provided with a hospital bed, but being so large I find it extremely uncomfortable trying to sleep in a single bed, apparently I need to gain 30kg before I qualify for a bariatric bed, which I don't really want to do just to get a decent night's sleep occasionally. Getting 2-4 hours a night at the moment and constantly exhausted.
Thank you Dr. Tobias.
Thank you doctor..
Thank you for your videos, my wife recently had a stroke, she now has some movement she can push down on her foot, what exercise do you recommend for the upward motion for her foot?
I bought one of those life Pro deals you stand on. today was the first day I got on it because I became pissed as I usually am everyday at certain times haha. My wife looked at me like you ain't never going to get up out of that chair on that thing and I got up and she cranked it to 5 and I was able to do like 3 minutes and that really give me a workout. Then she turned it up to 9 and holy crap I couldn't last very long about 1 minute. I said see you old lady you can't kill me 😂 I think I'm going to write a book about getting really pissed because I think it's good for people who are trying to regain what they lost. Get pissed get up I might call it
I wonder if any if the Judo techniques for falling safely would be beneficial to stroke survivors. Had a fall myself about a week ago, had plenty of warning that my leg was going to buckle so when I got to the point where my weak leg was about to buckle I was able to fall on my own terms - the very limited Judo training I had in my teens allowed me to fall backwards onto asphalt without any injury. Not pleasant, but not catastrophic
Very nice
Thank you..will try these soon!
Incredible Teachings
Thank you so much..it solved a lot of issues
Your videos are very helpful. Thank you for such videos. Please make videos on involntory nake, shoulder and head movement
Thank you, Tara
Hi Alenka! I hope it helps!
I spending too much time in my w/c and this exacerbates my hunching - especially since I like to sit on front edge of the cushion. This facilitate me doing various tasks with my arms however overtime I fatigue and it weakens my posture- overtime.
Needed this!
I agree, best Therapist!
Dr , please share the name of the walker. Thank you so much
I've noticed I'm ever so slightly bent over since my stroke but I'm very aware of it and work hard to correct it. It's more noticeable when the tone is changing in my muscles. Great video thanks.

I use a hemi walker😊
Usually they have an inversion ankle and can't lift ankle up neutrally
Excellent point! That can also throw the hip posterior lateral and lead to a forward flexed posture :) Keep commenting! I love getting different clinical perspectives. :)
Hi Dr Tobias I experience a stiff leg. This happens especially if I go out and am sitting for a long period of time and it's really uncomfortable. To start walking. Please note that I squat using the wall as a support
Hi, please make a video for pusher syndrome like how to train them sit straighter. Being tired handling a pusher syndrome family member. Thank you

I am six years past stroke post stroke. I find that when I step up with my good leg, my affected leg will scissor behind me. What exercises do I use to correct that? Thank you.
Hospital beds are not conducive to letting me lay on my stomach
What is an AFO ?
Still having weakness and numbness in my left leg. Weakness on both feet.
Hello Dr T, been watching your videos since a Thalamic Stroke in January 2021 after ACDF surgery, C-6- T-1, 6 months of P.T., home exercises, struggling with yard work and numerous meds later, even tried water Therapy this year, developed sciatica from that, still no relief, I what am I doing wrong?
Great video! Do you recommend trying to sleep on your back at night to encourage hip extension (even though I am a side sleeper)? Also do you have any videos on pros and cons of sleeping positions? Thanks!
Finding it strange that you have the exact same shoes as me, though mine are a mens size 16
My left ankle always point outward when I walk. What is the source of this?
can be useful sleep on stomach?
My hand opens on affected side during sleep. Just won't connect with brain. Follow your exercises
Good knowledge. I am stroke patient can u help me. I can walk but the problem is that when I walk iam felling dizziness. Like everything is moving I have A cerebellum stroke from last eight month and also feeling tried after walk.
thanks for watching and for sharing your story! Generally speaking, a stroke in the Cerebellum can make you feel dizzy. type rehab hq and ataxia in the youtube search bar and you will find some videos I have made for this. I hope that helps!
I have no Dorsi flexion ability in my affected leg. Any ideas?
Please dear, what is the solution to vibration or shaking of the legs when on the toes.
More exercises with you on the toes. The shaking is your weak muscles adjusting to your body weight. Standing Calf Raises are your friend:)
Hi ma'am. How do I increase my walking speed and I pause alot
DR, TARA ..Thank you . Surely...it speaks for everyone that ever comes across your channel. what a GIFT you are to everyone, anywhere, at any age and condition. SO inspiring!!
I haven't had a stroke but I did have a btk amputation. I have a very hard time stand stright - as in I can't do it. I was bedridden for about 6 months before the amputation and now I have been in a wheelchair for a year. My prosthetic does not have a flexible ankle. I am going to try these exercises. Are there any more exercises that an amputee can try, or should these exercises be enough?
Thanks for sharing! hamstring stretching but also going back to your prosthetist. They might be able to adjust the socket angle to allow you to stand straighter (until you get your flexibility back). :)
Good am! What is the best exercise for my son who is walking with slighty bend knees and so very slow? He suffered a brain traumatic injury due to electricution. As of today, he cannot speak and move well.
I really want to get better and I really try but it seems like it’s getting harder and harder. Is there people who would like to help me and guide me?
I flex forward, with bent knees!
I sit hunched over
I really want to get better and I really try but it seems like it’s getting harder and harder. Is there people who would like to help me and guide me? Want to get back to normal? I just don’t know how.
Can the AFO’s that go around the ankle And Velcro to the shoe laces be worn on both feet at the same time?
It is for drop foot. Goes around the ankle and then a strap that comes down and goes around the shoe lace.
Can I send a photo somehow?
Thanks for the question! I am not sure that is an AFO. I do not know of any AFOs that velcro to a shoe. I wish I could be more help
@@rehabhqofficial they Velcro to your shoe laces. I think they are in your Amazon favorites?

I'm sounding like a broken record, when I fix my posture by being perfectly; it exaggerates my scissoring when I extend my affected leg. Stumped you, eh? Mind you, I have only 2 to 3 degrees of hunches angle.
not stumped me. I think I have made 3 or 4 videos addressing the issues you bring up in the comments. Just gotta keep performing the movement and pay attention to what you are telling yourself when you are moving about. Ihope that helps!
