I would love to go back to that time when I started breathing with the diaphragm. That moment in time literally was life changing. When I was 9 my orthodontist told me my tongue belongs on the roof of my mouth. And I’ve been keeping it there ever since. You can’t be a mouth breather with your tongue on the roof of your mouth.
The quality of our lives really does seem to in the breath. I remember how bad my breathing was, I didn't even know what my own diaphragm was suppose to feel like when you inhale, I failed to truly see just how much of an impact I could made in my life, just how close I was to something great, the opportunity was quiet literally in my hands. I didn't stick with it long enough, and as a result I was set back a good few years, because there is absolutely nothing in life that wont improve, your ability to regulate your emotions, regulate your metabolism, regulate your muscle gains, your body recovery, the sleep quality, your ability to reduce stress and anxiety, and make more responsive and better decisions naturally. It all lies in the health and strength of your lungs and how well you breathe. For real, never stop looking after and strengthening your respiratory system.
Insightful. It is true, it's like learning a new way of talking. It requires focus and diligence, never giving up trying to breathe through nose (making exhales slower then inhales to be peaceful), but one day you just notice you're kind of doing it now and then w/o even trying. My goal is 100% habit by end of 2022. then i can sail a while.

The tongue is such a busy muscle it needs a rest...its natural place of rest is lodging itself next to the upper palate... its sort of cozy there.... when it is resting there nose breathing is the only possibility so its no stress to breathe through your nose when your tongue is resting there ... I woke up to the crucial part of this podcast for me , I webg to bed with and irritation in my throat , I am being conscious of breathing through my nose and already within a few hrs I notice an ease of my throat area, I'm going to be mindful of this , great podcast

I'm a very healthy and health concious senior. I thought I was doing everything right. I've been wearing a fitbit and monitoring my sleep data for over 6 years. My sleep data has always conformed to the norms for woman my age although my deep phase sleep data was always on the low end of normal and rem sleep phase was below normal as well. I don't have sleep apnea or noticeable sleep problems. When I started mouth taping a few months ago my sleep data completely shifted almost immediately. My deep phase sleep time tripled, my REM sleep increased while my light phase sleep was reduced by over a third. I was shocked and amazed that it could make such a difference by the numbers. It's made me much more concious of how I breath while awake as well. The Wim Hoff periodic extreme breathing techniques is harnessing the benefits of "homesis". The modern longevity experts would say that hormesis is a key component of longevity.

Mind blowing! I never heard of this! So, I started nose breathing at the start, then corrected my posture half way thru this video. We haven’t even heard the techniques yet and I already feel incredible! I’m a bit dizzy, but my head, nose, and chest feel clear and healthy, the fog of little sleep has vanished. I think work emails do or can directly trigger our fight or flight response. A stressful work email can trigger the deep fear of losing our job. Think about what a job provides, food, shelter, medicine, transportation, etc... To feel the fear of possibly losing our job is the modern day equivalent to the past fear of the tiger in the jungle.
So many of us grow into adulthood with serious sinus congestion due to allergy issues. This forces us to learn to breath from our mouths out of necessity. You must have open sinus passages in order to nose breath and especially when sleeping. I started playing the saxophone at the age of 13 and was forced to learn fast inhalation and delayed exhalation. It changed my life in a good way and did not really realize the benefit of relearning how to breath correctly. I know doctors as far back as the 1930s that prescribed a wind instrument for congestion of lung and sinus problems. I have been teaching the importance of lower diaphragm breathing ever since I experienced the results. It is amazing how in high stress situations I can close my eyes and breath slowly and deeply to regain calm balance. Thank you for this and especially the way you present it. I used to teach the violin in schools and always dreaded the new starters who walked through the door with their mouths hanging open! They tended to be very remote and passive (rather than active and engaged) learners and had far slower reflexes than the nose breathers. School teachers really need to incorporate breathing training into their lessons as well as the Alexander Technique.

If you are too weak and fragile to handle someone's observation then do yourself a favor and stay off social media! Alternatively, you could just accept that she is correct in assuming that children with their mouths open tend to be poorer learners, thus requiring much more patience and attention. Thank you for introducing me to your guest, and bringing light to such a fascinating topic. Never thought how important nasal breathing was. Definitely going to try to incorporate it into my routine.
I remember that my dad would do daily chores or yard work as a form of meditation. Rather than hustling through the chore to get it done as fast as possible, he would instead go fairly slow and be very deliberate in each part of the task, taking time to see that it was done nicely. And i remember him taking long, slow, deep breaths when doing this. Its my belief that this was a common way for people to get their work done through the ages and we have lost this great tool in our modern society.
That's a lovely story. So often our own bodie tell us the way to heal and it sounds like your father mindfully did his chores using breathwork to make it a meditative task. How wonderful, and how healing.

I have been a mouth breather for many years and many of these years I wore a mouth guard because I would grind my teeth when I was sleeping. It can help you keep your mouth shut and breathe through your nose while you are sleeping. You can get a mouth guard from any drug store and fit it yourself. I hope it helps people at night.

I’m on my 2nd reading of the book, I have an illness with diaphragm weakness compounded by Long Haul so I always feel like “progress”, while it has occurred, is freakishly slow. I can only tell by nap times and things I can do more smoothly from a year ago. But I’m working on my breathing again…. It always stumps me why so many CPAP systems I’ve seen force mouth breathing! It’s also not good for mouths or teeth, it’ll be interesting to see how the sleep specialists adapt.

I jogged years ago when younger. I alwsys breathhed through my nose. My heart beat was 55. I listened to talk and music. Iafter a years practice i did my best time on 10 k. In 4o mins after first year been 60. Id no one training me ...it was my own doing. As children we were alway told to stop eating flys ..keep mouth shut.
I did track and field, soccer, and swimming competitively my whole childhood into teen years. I still run and cycle today. I discovered nasal breathing from way back then. However, I mouth breathed while sleeping. I finally discovered it and stopped it. My blood pressure and hydration level normalized.
You talked about chewing in the second part, From my own research I learned that chewing helps break the food down which helps the digestive system cope better, and that it also makes the food more alkaline before it hits your stomach! I don't remember if it was because of saliva or the break down of the food matter but I know a more alkaline is better against cancer and acidic body. So only good comes with more chewing. Also former generations were told to chew 30 times.
I have severe sclerosis. I have lost 6 inches in height. My lungs and all vital organs are comprssed. The doctors say there is nothing to do at my 80 years. The youth today have a much better future.

I am starting to realise how much I have been breathing through my mouth, I like to think I am a lot healthier than I was fasting eating only healthy foods, but then to realise if I don't breathe correctly everything else won't work, but when I really work hard there goes the mouth breathing again guess it will just take time like changing to healthy eating habits, but really trying

Would be awesome as if we didn't have to work everyday and we had a list of every show from what I've learned in this show and we can wake up in the morning and do the 260 things on the list every day we would probably have a lot of peace be very happy and healthy. I slowed my kids breathing, sleeping next to them and had them deep breath slowly in slowly out. They were both sleeping in less than 20 seconds. LOL If i only knew this 7 years ago. The amount of sleep we all would have gained in no time flat. Breath holds are next. they can go 10 to 15 seconds only. Disfunctional id say. I was too. I still am in some ways. Working, definitely. At home it's much better.
Your quip about climate change studies is a perfect example of what you tried to evoke it against. Yes, there are thousands of papers (not studies) published about the more alarmist perspective, but almost all of them are based upon the output of computer models or extremely dubious (“adjusted”) surface temperature data. Large meta-studies have been done of the literature, and they reveal that less that 1% of the papers support the AGW conclusion. The media (because they love clicks) hypes the alarmist perspective at the expense of the actual science being done (model output doesn’t count as data in science). Also, the breathing method that helps with scoliosis is the Schroth Method, and it does not undo scoliosis as you assert. It can prevent worsening and help with pain. In some cases, curves can be reduced. Great interview overall. Just felt I should address some misinformation.

What about someone who is allergic to tape though? Adhesives cause me to get itchy after a short time. I tried to put a tiny bit of tape on my lips and I noticed within 10 minutes I had to take it off because of my lips starting to swell and get itchy

He taught us some of the heart and temperature regulation with breathing practice and sparked my interest in studying breath and breathing.
Interesting about breathing and Scoliosis (which I have with a rod). About ten years ago I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism (rock bottom tsh.) I heard and read that some doctors on the natural side say that Scoliosis is caused by Thyroid dysfunction, because the Thyroid is responsible for management of how calcium is used in the development and maintenance of the bones.
These 2-3 hour videos are fine if you have several hours to spare but other much shorter versions summarising key points and action plan would be more useful to me.
It's ok to pause and return at a later time. These long form videos are free lectures. And we have the opportunity to return to them whenever we would like. It's revolutionary. If it takes a couple days to get through a video that's fine, and maybe better. That way you can think on the 30 mins you listened to previous. Take care

I don't have sleep apnea or noticeable sleep problems. When I started mouth taping a few months ago my sleep data completely shifted almost immediately. My deep phase sleep time tripled, my REM sleep increased while my light phase sleep was reduced by over a third. I was shocked and amazed that it could make such a difference by the numbers. It's made me much more concious of how I breath while awake as well. The Wim Hoff periodic extreme breathing techniques is harnessing the benefits of "homesis". The modern longevity experts would say that hormesis is a key component of longevity.

Mind blowing! I never heard of this! So, I started nose breathing at the start, then corrected my posture half way thru this video. We haven’t even heard the techniques yet and I already feel incredible! I’m a bit dizzy, but my head, nose, and chest feel clear and healthy, the fog of little sleep has vanished. I think work emails do or can directly trigger our fight or flight response. A stressful work email can trigger the deep fear of losing our job. Think about what a job provides, food, shelter, medicine, transportation, etc... To feel the fear of possibly losing our job is the modern day equivalent to the past fear of the tiger in the jungle.
So many of us grow into adulthood with serious sinus congestion due to allergy issues. This forces us to learn to breath from our mouths out of necessity. You must have open sinus passages in order to nose breath and especially when sleeping. I started playing the saxophone at the age of 13 and was forced to learn fast inhalation and delayed exhalation. It changed my life in a good way and did not really realize the benefit of relearning how to breath correctly. I know doctors as far back as the 1930s that prescribed a wind instrument for congestion of lung and sinus problems. I have been teaching the importance of lower diaphragm breathing ever since I experienced the results. It is amazing how in high stress situations I can close my eyes and breath slowly and deeply to regain calm balance. Thank you for this and especially the way you present it. Next is ambient noise effects on our body and mind.
I have lung cancer and other lung issues, I been told over & over in through the nose out through pursued lips.

I used to teach the violin in schools and always dreaded the new starters who walked through the door with their mouths hanging open! They tended to be very remote and passive (rather than active and engaged) learners and had far slower reflexes than the nose breathers. School teachers really need to incorporate breathing training into their lessons as well as the Alexander Technique.

If you are too weak and fragile to handle someone's observation then do yourself a favor and stay off social media! Alternatively, you could just accept that she is correct in assuming that children with their mouths open tend to be poorer learners, thus requiring much more patience and attention. It's okay to vent about frustrating situations, especially if they are preventable by educating parents and teachers. To deny this and to get emotional is unreasonable.

Although I’m vaccinated, I’m in the last days of acquiring the bug COVID- and thank be to God, I was practicing the nose breathing recommended here, and I can assure you that that helped me to go throughout it with no greater complications… not even having to go to a clinic! Thank you for introducing me to your guest, and bringing light to such a fascinating topic. Never thought how important nasal breathing was. Definitely going to try to incorporate it into my routine.
I remember that my dad would do daily chores or yard work as a form of meditation. Rather than hustling through the chore to get it done as fast as possible, he would instead go fairly slow and be very deliberate in each part of the task, taking time to see that it was done nicely. And i remember him taking long, slow, deep breaths when doing this.
Its my belief that this was a common way for people to get their work done through the ages and we have lost this great tool in our modern society.
That's a lovely story. So often our own bodie tell us the way to heal and it sounds like your father mindfully did his chores using breathwork to make it a meditative task. How wonderful, and how healing.

My thoughts about this Rangan is we're designed to live peaceful calm lives in paradise taking care of the earth and animals. Our bodies are not designed for this modern lifestyle, but we are so wonderfully made that our body is still trying it's very best to keep us alive and healthy. It's just overwhelmed by the constant stress.

I have been a mouth breather for many years and many of these years I wore a mouth guard because I would grind my teeth when I was sleeping. It can help you keep your mouth shut and breathe through your nose while you are sleeping. You can get a mouth guard from any drug store and fit it yourself. I hope it helps people at night.
You can just put a little piece of tape on your mouth and it will stay closed all night.

@@v1ktorr124 I learned a new set of different exercises. I went through a Breathing Certificate Teaching program by Belisa Vranich. So I learned how to work out the breathing muscles. It has made a huge difference for me to be able to breathe diaphragmatically and have strong breathing muscles. I’m on my 2nd reading of the book, I have an illness with diaphragm weakness compounded by Long Haul so I always feel like “progress”, while it has occurred, is freakishly slow. I can only tell by nap times and things I can do more smoothly from a year ago.

I jogged years ago when younger. I alwsys breathhed through my nose. My heart beat was 55. I listened to talk and music. Iafter a years practice i did my best time on 10 k. In 4o mins after first year been 60. Id no one training me ...it was my own doing. As children we were alway told to stop eating flys ..keep mouth shut.
I did track and field, soccer, and swimming competitively my whole childhood into teen years. I still run and cycle today. I discovered nasal breathing from way back then. However, I mouth breathed while sleeping. I finally discovered it and stopped it. My blood pressure and hydration level normalized.
You talked about chewing in the second part, From my own research I learned that chewing helps break the food down which helps the digestive system cope better, and that it also makes the food more alkaline before it hits your stomach! I don't remember if it was because of saliva or the break down of the food matter but I know a more alkaline is better against cancer and acidic body. So only good comes with more chewing. Also former generations were told to chew 30 times.

My high school gym teacher wouldn't allow us to chew gum while we exercised and taught us to breathe through our noses. That was in the 80s. He was very smart!

I am starting to realise how much I have been breathing through my mouth, I like to think I am a lot healthier than I was fasting eating only healthy foods, but then to realise if I don't breathe correctly everything else won't work, but when I really work hard there goes the mouth breathing again guess it will just take time like changing to healthy eating habits, but really trying

I watched the video on tape in your mouth at night and it's changed the way I sleep I sleep so much better I feel better my mouth is not dry. And I do do the breathing too.
Would be awesome as if we didn't have to work everyday and we had a list of every show from what I've learned in this show and we can wake up in the morning and do the 260 things on the list every day we would probably have a lot of peace be very happy and healthy. So unfortunately because we have to work we're going to have to create longer days so do that we're going to have to speak to the almighty and ask him to pause time or extend time so we have time to do all of these awesome things!

I slowed my kids breathing, sleeping next to them and had them deep breath slowly in slowly out. They were both sleeping in less than 20 seconds. LOL
If i only knew this 7 years ago. The amount of sleep we all would have gained in no time flat. Breath holds are next. they can go 10 to 15 seconds only. Disfunctional id say. I was too. I still am in some ways. Working, definitely. At home it's much better.
Your quip about climate change studies is a perfect example of what you tried to evoke it against. Yes, there are thousands of papers (not studies) published about the more alarmist perspective, but almost all of them are based upon the output of computer models or extremely dubious (“adjusted”) surface temperature data. Large meta-studies have been done of the literature, and they reveal that less that 1% of the papers support the AGW conclusion. The media (because they love clicks) hypes the alarmist perspective at the expense of the actual science being done (model output doesn’t count as data in science).
Also, the breathing method that helps with scoliosis is the Schroth Method, and it does not undo scoliosis as you assert. It can prevent worsening and help with pain. In some cases, curves can be reduced.

What about someone who is allergic to tape though? Adhesives cause me to get itchy after a short time. I tried to put a tiny bit of tape on my lips and I noticed within 10 minutes I had to take it off because of my lips starting to swell and get itchy

He taught us some of the heart and temperature regulation with breathing practice and sparked my interest in studying breath and breathing.

Interesting about breathing and Scoliosis (which I have with a rod). About ten years ago I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism (rock bottom tsh.) I heard and read that some doctors on the natural side say that Scoliosis is caused by Thyroid dysfunction, because the Thyroid is responsible for management of how calcium is used in the development and maintenance of the bones.
These 2-3 hour videos are fine if you have several hours to spare but other much shorter versions summarising key points and action plan would be more useful to me.
For me too. I'm a very busy grandmother, I'm literally running all day. I have to keep switching on and off.
It's ok to pause and return at a later time. These long form videos are free lectures. And we have the opportunity to return to them whenever we would like. It's revolutionary. If it takes a couple days to get through a video that's fine, and maybe better. That way you can think on the 30 mins you listened to previous. Take care

You described me to a T with my anxiety! And I have been doing deep breathing meditation but only for 4 to56 minutes, but I do know when I do them absolutely I do feel peace and calmness in my body. Also a cold shower helps. But I love that you talked about enthusiasm. It brought back such beautiful memories of my old self! And I want it back so desperately! I am in deep fear and anxiety all the time. I know how to pull myself out for short periods. My problem right now is I’m home way too much. I need to find my purpose again LIGHT my passion.
