Been waiting for a video like this!! Everything about this video embodies all that I loved about the Dreamcast. Def killed so many hours grinding through the crazy pyramid.
I recently found this channel, and I love it. I think a lot of these retro modding/showcasing channels eventually fall into the “annoying content creator” trope. This channel just feels refreshingly honest. It’s super informative, the mods are beautiful and functional, and the reviews are well thought out and even keeled. Filming and editing are on point, too. Happy to subscribe :)
I wasn't even born when this console hit the market and I never played it but, man, I love your videos and the way they are made and structured. I have watched it till the end.
I caught a roller-coaster-style whiff of anxiety while you soldered in those ribbon cables. Excellent video! Thank you for putting it together for us 😄
I love how the video is a tutorial. I'm just like "ah yes, I could probably do that" or "that seems complicated" as if I would ever be able to have all the things to do this myself.
Popping in here to thank you for taking me through my first Gameboy SP IPS mod. Just bought a second donor and more components because you made it so easy and enjoyable the first time. Your channel provides the most clear, concise and enjoyable build tutorials on UA-cam. Happy I stumbled upon you and can't believe you don't have more subscribers. Hats off to you sir!
I love how flush the Mini-HDMI looks on back. I would’ve freaked out if I got no video output. That’s why I stick to converter cables and leave the soldering to the pros.
Thanks Erik! I did have a minor freak out when it didn’t work. Thank fully it just required a little touch up! Some of the cable converters are excellent solutions. The vga from the Dreamcast is supposed to be very good! Cheers dude!
Agreed! I've got absolutely no confidence in my ability to solder. My hands are far too unsteady for the task, not to mention my lack of patience if things go wrong. Even if I managed to get to the menu stage, as soon as any of those numbers had an 'x' underneath, I'd be freaking out. Like you, I'm happy to stick with the converter cables I've got for my DC and N64, as impressive as the visuals look with the mod. I've got a Fenrir Duo ODE for my Saturn, but I'm not going to risk wrecking my consoles with my lack of technical skill. My mate sent me this video. I think he's going to attempt this himself. He's already got the shell on this DC. Still has to get the console though.
I instantly got a new shell for one of my broken consoles. I was supposed to upgrade it with a GDEMU or another alternative. Thanks for the links! The cases look absolutely amazing!
Extra flux makes it flow easier. I've run out of flux before and mineral oil does the same really just clean it up good. The flux core soldier is nice but actual liquid flux is 100x better
Thank you so much! 🙏 Totally agree, the Dreamcast is one of my all time favorite consoles. It was my first cd based console. I love it to bits. Cheers buddy!
Oh man, Tito... I built my fully modded Dreamcast on Wednesday, then you drop this the day after. You must have been only a few days ahead of me! My build was almost exactly the same as yours, except I get a red case with a white/orange logo from Muramasa, and I got a PicoPSU instead of a DreamPSU. Other than that, complete mirror of what I did, LOL. Also, I removed the outer (inner?) shield of the modem for a little more of that sweet transparent action. Very clean port on the back, looks like you took your time with it and it shows. For whatever reason, that's what I was actually most afraid of with this install, but it turned out looking factory just like yours! I did have a couple minor hiccups with the solder work though -- I initially had 00, 01, and 02 as X in the test menu, but a very deliberate reflow of the pins fixed that issue. Also, Controller Port 1 stopped working for me, which is evidently a common issue with the DC Digital kit. I thought it was the fuse at first, but the fix was actually to resolder the reset wire oddly enough. Maybe that anecdote will help someone using this video as a guide like I've done with your previous videos. I was just as happy with the install as I am to finally have the ultimate Dreamcast. Your channel inspired me to start modding, and not only is it satisfying saving hundreds of dollars on install costs by doing it myself, it's also a great feeling knowing that it was my hands that put it all together. I ended up picking up a matching red Retrofighters controller and red VMU. Never had a Dreamcast as a kid but I wanted one so bad. Guess it's time to dive in and see what I missed out on! Or... just play a lot of MvC2. Can't blame me for that one, eh? Hope you have a blast with that beast because it's such an incredible piece of hardware, now elevated to Ultimate status.
Whoa awesome Gooch! That sounds like an incredible system! Funny how we’re doing almost the same mods! I actually just installed everything and it was working perfectly. I was playing D2 for like 30 min and then it just shut off randomly. I am currently trying to debug the issue. I’m so glad your is working though! Cheers dude!
@@MachoNachoProductions I too had mine shut off randomly, but it was only a one-time thing? That's really odd. Dreamcast was actually the system I identify truly growing up with. Was playing at 3 years old and loved it. I mainly played Hydro Thunder, sonic adventure, and nfl blitz

I foolishly missed out on Skies of Arcadia and Shenmue. I hope that Sega eventually brings some of the classic Dreamcast games back for the other consoles... or maybe a Dreamcast plug and play system, like the Genesis Mini. I would never be able to do the amazing mods that you do here. Great work, as always!
Thank you Michael! Really appreciate it bud! Loved space channel 5 and crazy taxi, absolute classics for the Dreamcast! If you have ps4, sega released shenmue 1 and 2 for it. A dreamcast mini would be awesome, fingers crossed we get something like that! Appreciate the comment Michael, cheers dude!
I have fond memories with my dreamcast. I bought it as a graduation present and what made it even more special is that it was imported from Japan! My favorites are Sonic Adventure 1&2, and Marvel Vs. Capcom.
Another great video! When you're soldering across pins like when you are attaching the ribbon cables, you can use drag soldering and spot-repair any bridges (if any).
Loved my Sega Bass & Marine fishing with the rod, & still got my original VMU with my Bass record on just in case I ever bought another Dreamcast in the future (although I have nothing it would play on anymore!)

1:41 easy answer SAGA GT I was blown away at this game…. One of the few racing game I can say I got all the way too 100%. Gran Turismo is near impossible to truly get to 100% to do the 24 hour race you have to have full dedication and a fan for your PlayStation because you’re definitely going to pause and walk away

Excellent video. You have a fan and sub! I recently did an "Ultimate Dreamcast Mod" on my channel, but without the DC HDMI (I'm not nearly as tech savvy as you). If I ever make the jump to the DCHDMI, I will be using your video as a tutorial. Again, excellent job!
Thank you so much for the sub and support 🙏! Really appreciate it! Dchdmi is a great mod, I’m sure one day you will do it! Cheers buddy and thank you again!
Bought that GDEMU and going to put it in my replacement Dreamcast. Honestly I'm going to miss that hard buzzing that comes from the laser reading the disc.
When installing the GDDrive back, be careful not to switch the screws placement, because if you put a long one in the spot of the short one, you'll kill the motherboard.
I bought from the same seller on eBay! I got the matte black finish with the metal DC badge. The only mods so far are, I swapped out controller port fuse and replaced the internal battery. I plan on changing my power LED for a white LED.
Recently went down the rabbit hole of modding a Dreamcast, did the same mods you did. Overclock it, made a difference on games that had a lot of slowdown. I recommend 40mhz oscillator and getting some of the non VMU memory cards if you plan on overclocking.
Hey Nacho love your vids man. Keep up rocking through this apocaliptic world! 💪 Btw id love to see you maiking a vmu backlight mod! And dont forget too change that power led from red top blue in part II. That smoked shell is awesome you sir have good taste 👌💪
Thank you so much SaMe! I’m happy you are enjoying the channel and videos! I definitely do plan on doing some VMU mods. It is one of the coolest memory cards ever made! I was thinking of changing the led to an rgb one that changes color automatically. Blue would look really cool though. Cheers buddy! And thank you for watching my videos!
Dreamcast had a lot of amazing titles in its short life. My favorites were Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Skies of Arcadia, Sakura Wars, Power Stone, Marvel VS Capcom, Sonic Adventures, Crazy Taxi, Daytona USA, Sega Rally 2, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Grandia 2, and Phantasy Star Online.
Hello! Doing well buddy! Hope you’re well too. Nice, dude! I haven’t played that game but always heard great things. So many great games, so little time! Cheers dude!

I still have my dreamcast, I was a day one adopter back in the day, my fave games were evolution 1 and 2 and skies of arcadia, shout out to the sonic adventure series oh and phantasy star online!
This is one of those mods that I hear Boss music to. I would be so scared to attempt this. Excellent work though. Do you take repair requests? I want my Game Gears up and running again my first resistor repair is still not complete after 6 months.
@@portmanteau9314 The soldering is actually not as bad as it looks. A proper iron, good leaded solder, no clean flux and some patience.... it's just a matter of taking your time and doing just like he did. Line it up, flux the hell out of it, tack it down with nothing but a tinned iron tip and once it's all in place you just need to continue to add SMALL amounts of solder until all the joints look nice and solid and aren't bridged. Cutting the shield would almost but as much, if not more of a PITA.
For those with poor soldering skills or no equipment: The Dreamcast natively supports RGB with True Sync via VGA cable which you can get for cheap (3rd party). You can barely tell the difference compared to DC HDMI unless you're 4 inches away from the screen. Put that through a VGA to HDMI signal converter and you got a cheaper, hassle-free solution.
I was playing Dreamcast before its Japanese launch, for the princely sum of £700 my local games importer has a batch arrive 5 days before launch, paid the man and never looked back. I had that smoked grey case mod back in 1999, and it still looks great on your machine, I've seen on eBay a billet machined aluminium case that looks astounding, unfortunately only 3 machined.
That’s so awesome dude! That is quite pricey but very cool! Whoa a machine aluminum one? I may have to check that out. Hopeful it isn’t too pricey. Cheers dude!
@@MachoNachoProductions Cool store for sure! My friends and I would travel there every year so I'm right there with ya, can't wait to get back out and explore :)
This is 100% one of my bucket list mods that I want to do someday. The pin level soldering has me very nervous though as I've been known to screw up that kind of soldering work in the past. I might pay someone else to do it for peace of mind lol. I'd also quite like to have the region free BIOS mod installed too so I can run some Euro Games. Does it still support analog video with this mod though? I wouldn't want to lose that functionality so I can keep playing House of the Dead 2 on my CRT. I also don't know if you saw, but a few years ago some European guy was making and selling custom made wireless dreamcast controllers made from originals. I'd love one of those too tbh. Also backlit VMU screens. Man the dreamcast has so much modding potential! Honestly I'm still holding out hope for someone making a clone of the broadband adapter as I'm not keen on the dreampi as it seems like a lot of unnecessary extra clutter and the those LAN adapters are worth a kings ransom...
That wireless controller mod sounds amazing! May need to look into that! I’m pretty sure composite still works. Haven’t tested that yet but there doesn’t seem to be a reason why it wouldn’t work. Totally agree, Dreamcast has a ton of modding potential! Cheers!
@@MachoNachoProductions Thats a relief! As long as the option is there. As for the controller if you search wireless dreamcast controller here on youtube that first result from Adam Koralik shows it off, its pretty awesome.
I did a peasant upgrade: Noctua fan, GDEMU, blue LED to match the PAL logo, original PSU just with resistors added, and a cheap VGA cable which's surprisingly good. Also got a Brook Wingman SD so I can use a Playstation (3/4) or Xbox (360/One) controller with the Dreamcast, and as a bonus the adapter also has 200 blocks of memory like a standard VMU.
Oh man Tito busting out the Dream machine! Seriously my dream MODs.. I wish I had the time to try myself.. Can't wait for pt2 .. Glad you showed the comparison at the end :) you had me nervous when installing that ribbon cable! Do you have a Saturn?
Thanks man! Yeah I was super nervous too, especially when it didn’t work the first time. I do have a Saturn! I absolutely love the console! I’m definitely planning to make some videos on it too! Cheers buddy!
I got a Dreamcast recently that was in excellent shape. Literally, it looked like it has never been used. It was a Japanese model so it had some of the higher quality features that you see in those models such as heat pipes and the metal fan. So far the only thing I have done to it is put the SD card mod in it in place of the gd-rom. I also got the plastic insert part. I also installed a replaceable coin battery port. I would like to either install the PECO power supply or the noctuaa fan (the one that mitigates the 12 volt rail) Right now I have some resistors serving as heat dissipation for that 12 volt rail. As for the HDMI mod? I don't trust myself with that level of soldering finesse, haha. Yet, at least.
Power Stone, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure 2, Grandia 2, Street Fighter 3, Marvel vs Capcom 2 are all reasons to love the dreamcast.

Awesome intro! I want a console but I have a pi 4 I use as a console
This is really a great channel!
Virtua striker 2 the ultimate soccer game at all times!!!!⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️👍
That shell looks sick
Ah de mother of consoles that actually had mindblowing vraphics at the time. I always wanted one but never had one. Until 4 months ago...i love it
Nice Vincent! Happy gaming dude!
Bought that GDEMU and going to put it in my replacement Dreamcast. Honestly I'm going to miss that hard buzzing that comes from the laser reading the disc.
I made a very similar build a few months ago, although mine is for playing on CRTs so I just use rgb cables. Awesome mod/vid!
Thanks Mike! Sounds awesome! Dreamcast looks great on crts! Cheers dude!
I plan on changing my power LED for a white LED.
your b roll is always so gorgeous!
Thank you Esben! Really appreciate it dude!
If we can somehow get a Skies of Arcadia HD remaster, I'll die a happy man.
Ditto!
Awesome vid! I'd love you to do a series on the Saturn
Definitely on the list!
Hello Tito, how are you? man that was a great video, i'm looking forward for part two! Fun fact: I just start playing Skies of Arcadia XD
Hello! Doing well buddy! Hope you’re well too. Nice, dude! I haven’t played that game but always heard great things. So many great games, so little time! Cheers dude!
Once I saw the soldering you need to do I decided my vga cable was just fine lol.
you still need a blue LED. the DCHDMI Mod will soon be my turn :)) Great videos keep it up
Haha, I was thinking about putting in an RGB led! Thanks Sebastiano! Cheers!
@@MachoNachoProductions already news for the 2nd part of the video? did you know how to deal with the problem? I've already installed the mod on myself and it works without any problems. I bought a high quality PicoPsu
8bitmods.com/dreamcast-picopsu/
thanks for your great videos
18:33 - You did the "protect neck from predator" scratch when you started talking about malfunctions.
Excellent video. Thank you.
You’re welcome!
I still have my dreamcast, I was a day one adopter back in the day, my fave games were evolution 1 and 2 and skies of arcadia, shout out to the sonic adventure series oh and phantasy star online!
Nice dude! I was huge fan of evo 1 and 2 also! I haven’t played skies of Arcadia, but it’s on the list! Cheers Adam!
Skies of arcadia. Greatest JRPG of all time! Still have my DC
Nice! I never played it but with the console modded I really need to dive into the Dreamcast library! Cheers Malik!
This is one of those mods that I hear Boss music to. I would be so scared to attempt this. Excellent work though.
Do you take repair requests? I want my Game Gears up and running again my first resistor repair is still not complete after 6 months.
Thank you NuBatman! Glad you enjoyed this one!
Unfortuantly, I don’t take requests at this time sorry dude. Cheers!
Watching the ribbon cable get tacked on had me shoook!
Me too dude!
I just bought a premodded one from stoneagegamer with a retrogem installed (DCDigital successor by the same guys) and i'm loving it so far! :-)
Two of my all time favorites on the Dreamcast are Grandia II and Skies of Arcadia. Shenmue is a very close 3rd however
I was playing Dreamcast before its Japanese launch, for the princely sum of £700 my local games importer has a batch arrive 5 days before launch, paid the man and never looked back.
Dreamcast is my fave console, gunna play some Skies of Arcadia right now.
NFL blitz with my boys was an all day affair!!!
Now it really is a dreamcast!
It truly is!
I have that EXACT same T-Shirt, got it out in Japan. That's wild :D
Nice! It’s such a cool store. I can’t wait to get back to Japan when things get back to normal. Cheers!
Thanks!
That sounds like a great set of mods for your Dreamcast!
Whoa that sounds awesome! May need to look into the brook wingman! Very interested!
I never knew the disc drive of the Dreamcast was called GD ROM.... I learned something new today.
Yes, the GD stands for "Giga Disc", since DC discs hold 1GB, unlike conventional CD'S with a 600MB capacity.
Excellent love this
Thank you dude! So glad you liked it! Cheers!
i definitely dont have the skill to do this but its so entertaining to watch
Thank you 🙏! That makes me happy that you enjoyed the video! Cheers!
That comparison at the end really should have been between the mod and VGA, which the Dreamcast supports without modification.
Still hopeful of a Dreamcast mini sometime this year or next...
That would be awesome! Fingers crossed🤞
that would be an insta buy...
💯
What if SEGA pulls a 180 and puts Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle in the mini?
Looks like you have a couple bridged pins @ 15:54, the top two.
great video and great content I luv SEGA it is unfortunate that they left the gaming hardware scene, but they still deliver great games as usual.
I would like to either install the PECO power supply or the noctuaa fan (the one that mitigates the 12 volt rail)
Right now I have some resistors serving as heat dissipation for that 12 volt rail.
As for the HDMI mod? I don't trust myself with that level of soldering finesse, haha. Yet, at least.
