I would recommend ps3. They have ps3 phat, slim and super slim. He should make the ultra slim. No disc drive smaller console foot print, while also using a cech2001 model to take advantage of the modded homebrew. This system can play ps1, ps2, and ps3 while also emulating your console. Already has hdmi, already has usb ports. Is over due for a smaller power supply possibly one that’s in the cord and not in the system.

This. It is very easy to disable the charging circuit with a diode if you want to use standard non-rechargeable 2032. It’s possible that nothing was wrong with the original battery anyway since it’s usually just that Dreamcasts consoles don’t see regular enough use to maintain the charge.

Was gonna comment this until I used my infinite wisdom to look up the comments. I moded my two dreamcasts, one of them having a dead battery. I'm pretty sure that ML2032 is fine as long as you let your console charge it for an hour or two though they are usually considered dead at about 2.6 volts.
Out of curiosity, would putting a rechargeable LIR2032 battery in instead of a CR2032 be a solution to the problem of CR2032 batteries not being rechargeable?
A tip for future designs. If you have a fan and right next to the fan you have vents.. the air will circulate from the closest vents and out of the fan exhaust. In your Dreamcast, that means that you are not really circulating air across the entire inside of the case, just around that one side. Which can explain why your power supply was running warm. Which is why in the original case, the side with the fan exhaust did not have any other vents. Great work otherwise, can't wait to see what's next!

It's a good thing I have Sponsorblock that bypasses it every time and gives me a green color on the bar to let me know if it's a sponsor or not. I personally don't care if creators need sponsors to support their videos, but I know every single one of their videos that has sponsors in it, I don't bother to buy it nor give the discounts to the creators. If the creator decides to stop making videos, so what, I move on to the next person. It's only when nearly 50/60 percent of content creators/small channels up and vanish that I would start to have a problem with UA-cam. But sadly this is how youtube likes to operate their site, even after 20 years since it's started. Personally, I do think 2005-2015 were the better days of UA-cam before 2016 came in and pretty much ruined what UA-cam used to be and became the monster we all have a hate/love relationship with this website. But pretty much Google buying it out was the start of what UA-cam would end up in the long run up into the present. So yes, I don't like sponsors either, but you can always mute or skip them however you like, up to you.

I remember the Dreamcast died because EA lead a group of developers into NOT publishing games on this platform after the 2k sports series showed them up so badly! I LOVED this console.
A lot of third party devs actually pulled out after the Saturn's shadow drop. They promised not to support Sega anymore after that. Thats why Sega had to build 2K Studios. Because EA wont make sports games for them anymore. Also: Sega's original graphics chip maker 3DFXreleased to the public they were supplying their chip to Sega. This led to Sega replacing them with the Hitachi chipset that was in the final version of Dreamcast. Unfortunately, EA was a shareholder in the original chipset manufacturer.

As someone who has worked in an automotive paintshop, I'm glad to see someone doing 3D printing finally realizing how well suited those filler sprays can be! Just... do tests first, as there exists fillers that can react with plastic and start bubbling, or if it's got a strong hardener even deform the plastic as it heats up, so we were fairly careful with plastic bumpers and such, and sometimes even used a plastic primer of sorts as a in between layer of the plastic and the filler.
Piracy was too easy, Sony Won the previous generation by a very large margin and so the new age kids thought Dreamcast will be weak as Saturn was, and Dreamcast mostly sold well in Japan, you could get any western markets at all. With Sony having a build in DVD player and Dreamcast launching the day it was announced, it being actually a bit underpowered, more expensive. It was just waiting to die as Sega got bankrupt from the last system and was putting too much faith on this system and 100 mil on just one clunky but more like boring game named Shenmue
Yeah... it definitely left me feeling a bit iffy. "Influencer" sponsers rely on you trusting the person, and possibly using that trust to promote possible life changing addictions really rubbed me the wrong way. I recognise the need for sponsorship, but this has really dwindled my trust

you know your battery mod is not good because the dreamcast battery is rechargeable and it looks like you replaced by a normal CR2032 which will suffer from overcharge that dreamcast sends to the battery, so you need also to replace some parts of the circuits to not send power anymore to the battery and you can use CR2032 without any risk of damage.
I do love the wood accents, on most projects, but in this instance, with the Retro Fighters controller being gray, I think those accent panels would've looked better in PLA and a color matching the controller.
Retro fighters did have a black wireless controller. They opted to make it a limited release that you had to preorder thankfully I bought mine and it matches my black dreamcast perfectly

If you're doing all those internal mods, including replacing the battery with a socket, you should also replace the controller fuse. The stock fuse, if it blows, needs to be replaced. You can get a resettable fuse (72v 400vA) to replace it. In the event of a surge or event that blows the fuse, you can just power cycle the console and it will reset, instead of requiring a replacement to be soldered in.
What I want to see is instead of just shell redesigns, you should trim the boards to recreate actual miniaturized consoles to actually make them modern like with how Bringus Studios UA-cam channel does with Wii and Wii U to actually miniaturized and make them modern.

When doing fine-pitch soldering, I would not suggest, as is stated in the video, keep working the solder on the contacts over and over, especially if you are relatively new to soldering. Some chips may take too much heat and fail quite easily. However, the movement and timing shown in the video is totally fine. Relatively quick sweeping motions - and keep that chip as cool as possible. Same goes for all soldering with chips.
I really enjoy the build and all the love you put into this mod, my only suggestion is taking care of your health and have a better solution for painting, try to do it in open air or forced air filter mini room, the chemicals in these tubes are quite toxic. take care :)

Very nice! As the owner of two Dreamcasts, this video has me dreaming... The Striker DC controller needs to have a slot for a VMU. The swirl in the DC logo could be translucent white, and have RGB lighting behind it, so you can choose which colours you want it to be, or even animated.
My dreamcast survived over the years and I never had any problems with it. I found it at my mom's house and brought it home to add to my old games in my garage/game room. Then one day my cat somehow opened it and puked into the laser area. RIP. 😢

Just a little tip with filler primer you’re supposed to do light coat, sand, light coat, sand, light coat, sand, light coat sand you’re supposed to build up the layers of primer you’re not supposed to just lay it all on at once

I thought of the ultimate challenge, but it’s probably not possible. Concept: turn a Nintendo new 3DS into a home console. Proposals: HDMI for top screen only to tv. For the touch screen, build it inside(centered inside controller like Wii U game pad) on a better controller with two sticks, wired to the console. Idk if it’s possible but it would be sick!
Yeah, like, I'm a minor and I feel super uncomfortable with things like that. I keep seeing people my age and even under cry over losing money from gambling at school after saying it's "easy money" (this actually happened), and if that happens just in my school in a third-world country I can't begin to imagine outside of here. Lol i use that high build primer at work all the timepainting trucks. It fills in all the little scratch marks from 120 grit when I'm looking for a glassy finish
Was a weird dreamcast family over here. My older brother has always been into tech and quickly was burning emulators and roms onto disks for the dreamcast. My friends had no idea what was going on but we could summon games from other consoles on our little dreamcast. Great memories.
Put a GDemu in my dreamcast a few years ago and did some tweaking to the internals to increase airflow. Still an awesome piece of kit with a 128GB microsd card in it.
I do have a minor gripe at the lack of the "GT 90" signature look the Dreamcast had... This version just looks like a Minisforum PC with a logo on top. I'd sooner think it to be an emulator box than an actual DC mod... But it's amazing regardless.🤣 Just like my gripe against the PS2 mod, I think a "modern revision" should have at least a minor homage to the original. It's a rebirth for those who had it, to revisit the past in a new and enhanced light! I LOVED the idea of LED lights for the logo. That was the one thing I was going to recommend but you got out ahead.👍 It's a little hard to see the text up against that wood color. A lighter wood would definitely enhance it in my opinion. I'd say the PSU and disc bypass mods are near necessities with how fragile those games were and how relatively easy those mods are overall. (Really though, those discs would give out with the slightest nick or abrasion.😞) I'd be fine with the lesser HDMI adapter quality to save me that incredible amount of precision work. It's still better than composite.👍
That was amazing! Some people say the Dream is over but the retro community is always growing. I still believe we will have a new Dreamcast, an upgrade or even Dreamcast 2.
I'll be honest, when you said you were going to redesign the case I was worried. But you smashed it out of the park, undoubtedly better than the original. I also thought when you were saying about the different coloured dreamcast logos you were going to put some kind of RGB lighting in the strip lol

I loved playing Nights so much on the Dreamcast as well as some PSO. Good times! I wish I had a system to do this with. Love the quality of the picture and a very neat downsizing. The wireless controller with the VMU is neat.

I enjoy your videos going over your build processes- especially the ones like these were you mod an old console to fit better in the modern day. That being said, while I understand both the ease and complications of 3D printing, I wish you'd make your custom cases more in line with the originals rather than a square box with accents. Which, don't get me wrong, the accents are cool, and I love personalization. But for me part of what makes a console the console is its design language, and it's taken away when it becomes more generic. Of course, what you build is yours and meant for your living space, but its something I'd personally like to see. Keep up the good work!

yes, he was already there, and if I remember right is just replace the resistor nearby by a diode and it will not try to charge the battery.

It's a good thing I have Sponsorblock that bypasses it every time and gives me a green color on the bar to let me know if it's a sponsor or not. I personally don't care if creators need sponsors to support their videos, but I know every single one of their videos that has sponsors in it, I don't bother to buy it nor give the discounts to the creators. If the creator decides to stop making videos, so what, I move on to the next person. It's only when nearly 50/60 percent of content creators/small channels up and vanish that I would start to have a problem with UA-cam. But sadly this is how youtube likes to operate their site, even after 20 years since it's started. Personally, I do think 2005-2015 were the better days of UA-cam before 2016 came in and pretty much ruined what UA-cam used to be and became the monster we all have a hate/love relationship with this website. But pretty much Google buying it out was the start of what UA-cam would end up in the long run up into the present.
So yes, I don't like sponsors either, but you can always mute or skip them however you like, up to you.

I remember the Dreamcast died because EA lead a group of developers into NOT publishing games on this platform after the 2k sports series showed them up so badly!

A lot of third party devs actually pulled out after the Saturn's shadow drop. They promised not to support Sega anymore after that.
Thats why Sega had to build 2K Studios. Because EA wont make sports games for them anymore.
Also: Sega's original graphics chip maker 3DFXreleased to the public they were supplying their chip to Sega. This led to Sega replacing them with the Hitachi chipset that was in the final version of Dreamcast.
Unfortunately, EA was a shareholder in the original chipset manufacturer.

As someone who has worked in an automotive paintshop, I'm glad to see someone doing 3D printing finally realizing how well suited those filler sprays can be!
Just... do tests first, as there exists fillers that can react with plastic and start bubbling, or if it's got a strong hardener even deform the plastic as it heats up, so we were fairly careful with plastic bumpers and such, and sometimes even used a plastic primer of sorts as a in between layer of the plastic and the filler.

Piracy was too easy, Sony Won the previous generation by a very large margin and so the new age kids thought Dreamcast will be weak as Saturn was, and Dreamcast mostly sold well in Japan, you could get any western markets at all. With Sony having a build in DVD player and Dreamcast launching the day it was announced, it being actually a bit underpowered, more expensive. It was just waiting to die as Sega got bankrupt from the last system and was putting too much faith on this system and 100 mil on just one clunky but more like boring game named Shenmue

you know your battery mod is not good because the dreamcast battery is rechargeable and it looks like you replaced by a normal CR2032 which will suffer from overcharge that dreamcast sends to the battery, so you need also to replace some parts of the circuits to not send power anymore to the battery and you can use CR2032 without any risk of damage.
I do love the wood accents, on most projects, but in this instance, with the Retro Fighters controller being gray, I think those accent panels would've looked better in PLA and a color matching the controller.
Retro fighters did have a black wireless controller. They opted to make it a limited release that you had to preorder thankfully I bought mine and it matches my black dreamcast perfectly

If you're doing all those internal mods, including replacing the battery with a socket, you should also replace the controller fuse. The stock fuse, if it blows, needs to be replaced. You can get a resettable fuse (72v 400vA) to replace it. In the event of a surge or event that blows the fuse, you can just power cycle the console and it will reset, instead of requiring a replacement to be soldered in.
What I want to see is instead of just shell redesigns, you should trim the boards to recreate actual miniaturized consoles to actually make them modern like with how Bringus Studios UA-cam channel does with Wii and Wii U to actually miniaturized and make them modern.
Bringus Studios does a better job at doing stuff like this than Zac.

When doing fine-pitch soldering, I would not suggest, as is stated in the video, keep working the solder on the contacts over and over, especially if you are relatively new to soldering.
Some chips may take too much heat and fail quite easily. However, the movement and timing shown in the video is totally fine. Relatively quick sweeping motions - and keep that chip as cool as possible.
Same goes for all soldering with chips.

The Striker DC controller needs to have a slot for a VMU.
The swirl in the DC logo could be translucent white, and have RGB lighting behind it, so you can choose which colours you want it to be, or even animated.
My dreamcast survived over the years and I never had any problems with it. I found it at my mom's house and brought it home to add to my old games in my garage/game room. Then one day my cat somehow opened it and puked into the laser area. RIP. 😢

Yeah, like, I'm a minor and I feel super uncomfortable with things like that. I keep seeing people my age and even under cry over losing money from gambling at school after saying it's "easy money" (this actually happened), and if that happens just in my school in a third-world country I can't begin to imagine outside of here. Gambling ads are predatory as hell and should be kept in their corner.

Was a weird dreamcast family over here. My older brother has always been into tech and quickly was burning emulators and roms onto disks for the dreamcast. My friends had no idea what was going on but we could summon games from other consoles on our little dreamcast. Great memories.

Put a GDemu in my dreamcast a few years ago and did some tweaking to the internals to increase airflow. Still an awesome piece of kit with a 128GB microsd card in it.

I do have a minor gripe at the lack of the "GT 90" signature look the Dreamcast had... This version just looks like a Minisforum PC with a logo on top. I'd sooner think it to be an emulator box than an actual DC mod... But it's amazing regardless.🤣 Just like my gripe against the PS2 mod, I think a "modern revision" should have at least a minor homage to the original. It's a rebirth for those who had it, to revisit the past in a new and enhanced light!
I LOVED the idea of LED lights for the logo. That was the one thing I was going to recommend but you got out ahead.👍 It's a little hard to see the text up against that wood color. A lighter wood would definitely enhance it in my opinion.
I'd say the PSU and disc bypass mods are near necessities with how fragile those games were and how relatively easy those mods are overall. (Really though, those discs would give out with the slightest nick or abrasion.😞) I'd be fine with the lesser HDMI adapter quality to save me that incredible amount of precision work. It's still better than composite.👍

I loved playing Nights so much on the Dreamcast as well as some PSO. Good times! I wish I had a system to do this with. Love the quality of the picture and a very neat downsizing. The wireless controller with the VMU is neat.
This is truly the most top tier custom dreamcast I have seen. I grew up modding dreamcast and started a few of the mods back in the day so seeing this was such a treat. Thanks for keeping the dream alive!
I enjoy your videos going over your build processes- especially the ones like these were you mod an old console to fit better in the modern day. That being said, while I understand both the ease and complications of 3D printing, I wish you'd make your custom cases more in line with the originals rather than a square box with accents. Which, don't get me wrong, the accents are cool, and I love personalization. But for me part of what makes a console the console is its design language, and it's taken away when it becomes more generic. Of course, what you build is yours and meant for your living space, but its something I'd personally like to see. Keep up the good work!

Awesome work and great job but it doesn’t look like a Dreamcast anymore. A better idea would’ve been to try to shrink down the original Dreamcast case by taking out some of the thickness out.
