Mad World - Pentatonix & Gary Jules (Side by Side)

Well this one was a surprised. Sorry for being a tad late for this. :)

I like both versions. But for me Pentatonix is better. They achieve the same somber mood with a fuller sound.

I love this but I'm sorry in my opinion pentatonix always makes a better cover than anyone else. Tons of people have done hallelujah before but their version is so much better I think.

Thanks for the side by side. I had not seen/heard the Gary Jules version. I liked both but I love PTX.

Yes, but it made the rest of the Gary Jules cover sound so strange here. I know that pitch adjusting is needed so that listeners don't puncture their eardrums with a cocktail fork to stop the dissonance, but sometimes the result is bizarre in its own right. (The other example that comes to mind is what happens to CeCe Peniston on the 90s Dance Medley, where she sounds like a rabid chipmunk in heat. I would have gone down; she would have sounded like Anne Murray or Wayne Newton.)

The vocal part was definitely stronger on PTX side, even if we discount background or music. Plus these additional notes on phrase about dreams gave it a little custom twist :) (though it might be I missed these notes on Jules song, can't say I am good in this... but if there were any, on PTX they were better expressed).
