      Is the sneak peek of the next update of Houdini, updated modeling tools, faster and more accurate simulations and render support. Houdini is a 3d program used for VFX and simulations in movies and gaming industries. It's not vfx only, you can use it for modeling, rendering, etc. Although most of people use other programs for that. Houdini is known for having a steep learning curve but there are lots of tutorials if you want to learn it.

      basically all the cool smoke and explosions and physical simulations and water and all that you see in movies are done in houdini, and this is the next version of houdini, with many new features and improvements from houdini 17.5

    • @VincentG991
      @VincentG991 5 років тому +7

      Solid Snake I don’t get the sense Autodesk is they haven’t changed prices in years to be more competitive. It doesn’t seem to me they care about the blender & Houdini communities. They have their Hollywood studio contracts and it seems for now they are absolutely cool with the popularity of these other cheaper software.

    • @VincentG991
      @VincentG991 5 років тому +18

      Solid Snake The other problem Autodesk is facing is most of the stuff you’d want to do in 3DS Max requires 3rd Party plug-ins like FumeFx, thinking particles, etc on top of the subscription for the actual software that also costs thousands on top. Houdini can do EVERYTHING in house for that $265 price tag. Blender can do a ton too minus (imo) great looking pyro and rigid body stuff right now. It just doesn’t make sense to be all in with Maya & 3DS Max when all the things I want aren’t even built in the software to begin with. lol!

    • @charles_wren_films
      @charles_wren_films 5 років тому +3

      Solid Snake Autodesk have already introduced their Indie license - Maya Indie.
      It’s a soft launch for now that they’ve done fairly quietly. But it’s there.
      Still, Blender and Houdini are incredible options for so many freelancers and small businesses right now. What we really need next is for The Foundry to take their head out of the sand and follow suit. I had high hopes for Fusion playing catch-up when BMD bought it, but that just hasn’t happened. And Nuke’s price remains unobtainable for many freelancers and small businesses.

      You can definitely do things that are literally impossible in other software. You can control the data directly.

    • @HiAdrian
      @HiAdrian 5 років тому +10

      It really depends on what you want to do. Cinema 4D has great _immediate_ productivity. Houdini pays off once things become very complex due to its automation (scripting) and optimization (memory packing etc.) capabilities.

    • @WPSoul
      @WPSoul 5 років тому +29

      Worked in C4D for years. Many time I started to learn Houdini as I see power, but things look very hard to learn as they are working in other way than in C4d or other linear soft.
      Few months ago I started to learn Houdini again, but in this time I tried all my best, purchased few courses, started to learn from 0
      Now, I don't think that I need something else than Houdini, which even becomes better and better each version
      There are few things why you should use ONLY Houdini:
      1. It's so easy to change state of object on any step. Points to volume, volume to polygon, primitive to points, Fluids for points, VDB from object, curves to polygons. You don't need to think that once you turn Primitive to Polygon as in C4d, you can lose editing option. Convert absolutely anything to anything on any step, revert back, merge as you want
      2. Caching everything. You can use caching, OBJ sequence, Alembic export on any step. Export whole geometry or part or anything which you want
      3. Wedging. I am sure that everyone has case when you made some simulation but don't know which parameter is better. You turn one parameter, make render, try other option, make render. In Houdini, you just create Wedge, set variations as you need by range or random, merge with other variations and enable simulation and render in background so you can continue to work. Then, you can see all possible variations. You can even render all of them in one design stylesheet. So, now, forget about this fucking "Let's increase ... and try". Give hundreds of variants to your client at once.
      4. Huge simulations. Yes, there is Realflow, Xparticles, Turbulence. They are good. But try to collide 1000 points with 10000 points - this will freeze C4d at once. In Houdini it's no problem to use millions of particles with collisions.
      There are many other points, I can write about them forever

      if you are looking to professionally get in to this stuff, I'd suggest download the learning edition of Houdini (free and does everything you see here) and get "Fast track with Houdini" from Gnomon by Robbie Branham(spelling?) , you can then move on to many free tutorials available online (Niels Prayer's Scatter tuts are amazing). Houdini does have a steep learning curve and does require some aptitude for coding if you wanna make some impressive stuff. Another option is Cinema 4D.its relatively easier and gives good results quickly. Dont get blender, seriously. Being free does have it's allure but that's probably the only positive about it.
