  • The Funk Mob gives perhaps one of the funkiest performances of Swing Down, featuring Skeet Curtis on bass, Bernie Worrell on keys, and Garry Shider doing lead duties.

    OK...I will say that Garry (God rest his soul) can sang. He came from the church and he had a soulful voice as well but NO ONE can bring in the Mothership like Glen (God rest his soul). Glen OWNED this joint.

    I like the way George's stuff just seems to sneak up on up on you. At first you think, this is kinda cool. A minute later you're swinging a little bit on the couch thinking hey, this is actually funky. Two minutes later you got the head-bob thing going on so hard you're neck might snap, and a minute after that you're off the couch, colliding into the coffee table, in full groove and wondering what the hell just came over you. At least, that's how it happens to me!

    RODNEY (SKEEEEEEEET) CURTIS is one of my "ALL TIME BASS GUITAR HEROS". This man style to me is: FUNK,ROCK,SOUL,CLASSICAL,JAZZ, and anyone of those styles will jump out at you without any warning. Just prepare your-self to be grooved!!! This brother can lay down the licks and will always be one of my top bass guitar inspirations. Only a few can rank with him,(Larry Graham, Victor Wooten, Tony Smith, Verdine White), just to name a few.

    Can't believe how many folks think this version's "lame"! Give the Mob some credit - like the poster said, this was the funkiest, groovin'-est version they ever played. Look at the whole crowd swaying together! Glenn was the greatest, and it sucked that he left, but they took this song and made it great in a different way.

    George couldn't sing and he admitted that,but he knew his notes and only he can do it with funky soul. Well, I agree that Glen can belt the lead out of this song ,but I have to give Gary his props. He did this HIS way.

    Check out Michael Hampton on the guitar keeping the rythm steady. He is the best when performing live for the funk mob.

    I am not a big Parliament/Funkedelic fan....was always more into EWF, Kool and the Gang, the Jacksons but I feel the point of Swing Down and the coming of the Mothership and what it meant towards black thought.

    It's funny, but Gary is tryin' so hard to get that husky Gospel quality that Glen had, but it just isn't the same. My favorite song with Glen is HANDCUFFS from the Mothership Connection recording. Here on UA-cam.

    PS. George was never the lead vocal but the leader of the ship

    All kind of aliens though.. Aliens to society, aliens to common sense, aliens to the general lack of common sense... On the atheist part, I'm with you 100%, but I'm from Sweden so it shouldn't be to surprising.

    Who, Glenn and Greg or Gary and Greg are cousins? any-way, that's still deep! I do know Glenn, Kevin and Greg (i think Jerome too) formed a group and got a record deal, after they left p-funk.

  • @joshua626
    @joshua626 14 років тому +2

    Man Gary was good but everytime he got the center stage he was always trying to sing or talk instead of letting the music and the band build to new heights. Like the song anyway.

    @mysterymediacorp Great Minds think alike! My post was only to answer the original question you posed about race - "what it meant towards black thought" as posted by 1980Triumph. If you have the opportunity to read or see a George Clinton interview where he discusses the stealth he and other Black artists used to get their message across during a time when all Black media was being scrutinized for subversive activity you would appreciate my original response.

  • @HypnoticHollywood
    @HypnoticHollywood 13 років тому

    @BKinNY of course I know that, I was just making a point that the song is about aliens, and I'm a free thinker also, but I'm not a fence sitter when it comes to 'god' because I have no reason to believe in that stuff
