this is a pretty sick version. hampton kinda jumps along in time with the beat, whereas hazel was a bit looser (not a bad thing) and kinda dictated the song and its path more. i can't tell which version i like more. best song.
Mike Hampton may not be quite as good as Eddie, but he still knocks it out of the park, and this is probably one of the best live versions in terms of audio quality.

Man this is the first song I learned how to play by one of the best teachers rip Mr B you were awesome I was in 12 grade fresh out the hospital after my 8 or 9 brain surgery God put Mr B in my life to help me with school an he notices I played guitar so long story short he told me about maggot brain I listen to it night and day then he helped me graduate then showed me how to play from there on Ive ben playing it about 18 years
At first it sounds like a volume pedal effect, but since he's still using the wah effect as well, I'm thinking it may have just been the tape fading in and out.

It's a fine solo, but this was from 1978. Pink Floyd's "Time" was five years earlier, in 1973.
