Being a recent widow, I've had the unpleasant, although rewarding, tasks of trying to winterize machinery, cutting wood, you name it...everything my sweet husband always did; plus everything I've always done. It's kinda rough right now. I like your videos.
I’m so sorry for your loss
❤❤❤❤
Sending Prayers 🙏🏻 for comfort and peace 🕊️
My deepest sympathies for your tremendous loss.❤❤
I'm sorry for your loss, praying God's comfort and strength for you
Seeing your fallen tree on your fence,we were hit by hurricane Helene. We have around 75 white oak trees down on our property. We were without power for almost 10 days. What I've learned from this is to prepare for disasters. Were going to saw mills the trees, build a cabin, have wood burning heater, generator with LP gas,and food ,water prep.
Wow! You have a mess on your hands with that many trees down, they will make excellent wood for burning in a wood stove. Prayers to you while cleaning up and starting your prepping, although I hope there won't be a next time for you to have to have your preps.
It's wild to me that people get on you about "only" eating canned fruits and veggies in the winter. Which I know is not even true for you and your family, but even if it was, it's still nutrient dense and wonderful! So many people eat hardly any fruits and vegetables at all.
Keep doing your thing :). Thanks for sharing!!
I agree! Honestly, if we ate seasonally, no one would eat fruit in the winter. So, the fact that she preserves them for her children is a win!
For new home canners: I took advantage of the magazine offer a couple weeks ago. I received both magazines this week. I enjoy both, but must warn newbie canners that Jackie, the “expert” in these magazines, does promote some unsafe canning practices without disclosing “rebel” canning. For example, on page 41 of the Fall 2024 Self Reliance, she promotes canning brined corned beef. The NCHFP specifically says cured and brined meats are not safe to home can, because the curing or brining changes the density of the meat. So do your own research when looking at a canning recipe/method to determine the level of risk you are willing to take.
Oh my, your my Favorite Sunday Family for sure. Seeing the 4 Little Ones together was a rare treat indeed. How they have grown. Baby girl is way ahead for her age having so many loving caretakers ready and willing to teach her their tricks! May our Lord God bless each of you through this season of life, and may you have a safe and easy delivery.😊
Thanks so much
I look forward to your content each week. We are not homesteaders. I have never canned anything. Our kids are grown. We are retired. But you feel like wonderful neighbors I get to hear from each week🥰 Thank you.
The sweetest Ohio family ever… and that’s saying something cause I live in Ohio! ❤️🙏🏼
I love seeing little Hannah help with everything! I've been around since before she was born, and it's crazy that she's getting so big now!! She's going to be a wonderful big sister just like the rest of her siblings
On Sundays, after devotions and Bible readings, it is time for "Miss Jessica." How I do look forward to you saying, "Hello, Friends, it's Jessica." Your videos are a treat for me and it is so enjoyable to check in and catch up on all your doings. Yet again you have beautiful young children helping with apple projects and we even saw Adam. Thank you for making your videos and you truly have a friend here (a much older Gram with 5 grandkids who admires you greatly!). God Bless all of you.
Your channel brings me so much joy! I love seeing you and your children every week.
♥️👍🙏🤓
I'm so glad!
I’ve been doing much of the same. Final harvest before 6 inches of snow on Friday. Time to get the garlic planted, harvesting the cabbage and making sure the corn for grinding is perfectly dry before storage. This is my first time doing grinding corn on a small scale. It’s a favorite time of year with apple harvest and today will be spent making sauce. Chili was definitely on the menu at my house as well. Looking foward to a little rest in the coming weeks but for now it’s crunch time with the garden “stragglers”.
Your canning cellar is awe-inspiring! As a new canner, I have only canned chicken, turkey and beef broths so far, as well as strawberry preserves. You're my hero!
My favorite video you have uploaded! I love the style where you take us along what it’s like to run your beautiful homestead and family. Cozied up with a tea and my knitting project. God bless!
I love how Adam was filmed working on a task. Hopefully everyone will leave you alone now about Adam’s rolls on your homestead. It’s none of anyone’s business how you two do life together. Thanks for sharing with us. I enjoy watching your videos and growing family. I wish I would have had this UA-cam median to gleen from when I was raising my family, if only for encouragement.
Love your wood burner, happy childhood memories.Your baby bump looks gorgeous.A gift from god.❤
Good morning my friend I hope you have a beautiful Sunday. Thank you so much for praying for me I had didn't know what was going on and they put three stents in my heart so hopefully all will be well but thank you so very much I appreciate all your kindness and love
Good morning 🙏😊
Thank you again for such great content . Love watching the kiddos playing and helping and just enjoying life! What a blessing.
And now I’m inspired to get my garlic planted!
Have a blessed week 🙏
I love how the Lord was looking out for you by how your husband “just happened” to be home that day. He always has our backs! ❤️🙌 Thank you for another wonderful video, Jessica.
I love how much you cook for your family! From the amount of meat, vegs, fruit, potatoes or pasta down to the dessert you bake! Love your videos!

You are such a busy, productive homemaker. I love your videos and have learned so much from you. Thank you
You are so welcome!
closest post yet. I am receiving this 30 minutes in South Australia after you uploaded it. I appreciate how you are not only preserving food etc but also preparing for your new arrival. God has recently blessed my family with an early arrival of my granddaughter who has proven to be a total blessing. I am sending prayers from my family to yours and big hugs also
Hello from a fellow Adeladian. I fluked this time too 😊
Working together as a family is great, it helps the whole family bond. Thank you for sharing these useful tips to keep fruits and vegetables from spoiling. Wishing you and your family much joy.
I score big time 13 heads if cabbage and yes I shared with friends and family I used 6 heads ,1 head for freezing egg roll veggies, and 5 heads I canned up almost 2 cases of pints,1 bag of spinach too freeze for soups 1 bag green beans for veggie soup, multiple fruits for mixed fruit jam, bananas for Eatting and muffins, cucumbers for pickles, and tomatoes and peppers made salsa 5pints and will be making and canning jam and pickles today. I had too buy 5 cases of pints. That God for my brother who ran for them and best prices. The jars have gone from $8.99 too $11.99 regular pints and $13.99 for wide mouth pints.
Thank you for showing how to collect and store seeds.
My pleasure
Great video. Thank you. Blessings
Always look forward to Sunday and watching your extremely interesting video.❤
Good morning from Michigan! This year I ordered Candy Roaster squash to try from Baker Creek Heirlooms, I planted 3 seeds and the plant flourished! My harvest was 26 squash and they were all over 10lbs with the largest being 16.4lbs!! The taste is sweet and creamy. I have been baking them whole, then freeze drying and powdering them. Delicious!
That is awesome!
Good afternoon my dear friend, boy, you sure are a busy and productive mama! You look fabulous, and the soup you made looked delicious!! Wishing you a blessed week!!
Thank you so much
I was in your neck of the woods (I believe) this week in Northwest Ohio. I was in Hancock County, near Findlay searching for and finding my great grandparents, great, great grandparents and greatx3 grandparents graves. The greats and great, greats were in the same cemetery (Union Cemetery) and the greatx3 were about 3 miles down the road in Big Lick Cemetery. It is such beautiful country in that area with all of the corn and soybean fields. It was beautiful weather and the experience of finding the graves was truly moving for me. So many lovely old farmhouses too!! Wow! Kept hoping I’d see one that looked like it might be yours!😂
God bless you and I’m so sorry that you lost your dear husband. I hope that you have family or friends that can lend a hand.
Southeastern Ohio here, we also got our first frost a few nights ago. Thank you for teaching others and sharing your lives!
Thank you so much on how your plant out the garlic and dress it. I sure will be dressing them with the comfrey I have and chicken manure I got from my friend. 3 new 8' x 20" planter beds. And have mini green houses too go on top. I sure will be growing more sweet potatoes, butternut squashes, cucumbers, tomatoes, and hopefully carrots and onions.
You're my hero!
Never a dull moment! God bless you and your family.
Did your tree coming down have anything to do with Helene? WNC here, and I don't know what kind of coverage you see on the media but we have had trees galore blown down, interrupting power services to a very large portion in NC around Asheville, other surrounding counties, and other states such as GA and TN. Mostly power is restored except where houses and even towns were washed away. Drinking water is a problem for city dwellers; anyone who doesn't have a well. Continue to remember this area in your prayers.
We have a small orchard here in NW Ohio. Our FAVORITE is Gold Rush. Jonathan were an old favorite, but yes, they don’t last long. Our yellow delicious are good keepers, as well as Liberty apples. Macintosh are the best for dehydrating slices. Our harvest is minimal this year because of a late hard frost.
I plant my squash plants after July 1st and rarely have squash bugs. I also found Buttercup squash (very prolific!) is BETTER for pumpkin puree than pie pumpkins. Much more dense flesh, less watery than pie pumpkin flesh.
Good to know! Thank you 😊
My Mom always made pumpkin pie with squash. I do also. The flavor is excellent.
I freeze dry squash through out the winter when they start to turn soft in regular winter storage. Freeze dried squash is the best, most convenient food you can imagine. Flavor and nutrition is top notch.
I planted my garlic the other day. I am going to go back and put some comfrey and straw on the bed now. Thanks for the tip.
Great info re garlic. Take care. 😊😊
You are such an inspiration for me! I started canning a little over a year ago and also got a freeze dryer. Last night's dinner: Ham (FD), Rice (FD), Onions (FD), peas (FD) tomato juice (canned), crushed pineapple (from the store)
I love BWH magazine! Ive been getting it since early 80s.
Thank you for all that you do and for sharing your busy life with us. God bless
You are so welcome
Jessica we love your family videos and seeing your abundant harvest. You are beautiful mom who takes such great care of her family. I think of the woman in Proverbs 31.
Who takes great care of her family. Your video is a highlight
On Sunday mornings.
Great video! Good squash harvest. That is a lot of apples...lol.
Hi! A bit late here, but I took advantage of the subscription offer for the Backwoods Home. Thanks for the discount.
Winesap is my favorite apple for my applesauce. Our grandkids can’t get enough of it.
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful life. I admire you and your family! It’s a lot of work but so rewarding!
Your videos never disappoint and I always pickup some tidbit of info. This time it was the Canada Crookneck squash. I/we will definitely be trying! Thanks!
Music is our favorite garlic variety. It keeps well.
Love these fall videos- The weather brings on the finishing touches before winter. I used to hate winter for the cold and snow when I lived in MN. We moved 3 states south and now I think of winter as a time for rest. We usually have a few things left to pick out of the garden in December. Enjoying watching your family grow :)
Jessica and Adam you are a breath of fresh air 😀 Thanks for sharing your life ❤
Hi! Have an amazing week! So excited to watch!
Thank you! You too!
Thanks for sharing. Glad no damage was done with the tree coming down on your fence. Better there than your house. Now you have some firewood, too. Have a blessed week.
Happy Sunday, Three Rivers Family ❤❤❤ I hope you guys have a blessed week! Little Hannah is so stinkin’ cute! 🥰
Jessica you are such an inspiration. I love your videos. And Hannah’s ponytail was so cute.😊
Thank you so much!!
Thanks for sharing. Have been wanting to order Backwoods magazine
What a wonderful video Jessica. May God’s blessings keep touching your family.
Comfrey. I never knew it could be so beneficial. I think I'll try growing it this year to enrich my soil. Thanks for that tip!
Thanks for the magazine discount. I’ve always been drawn to this magazine at the store, but didn’t get. I’m ordering it and I can’t wait for it.
Good morning. I look forward to seeing you every Sunday morning
Thank you for sharing, always appreciate your videos ❤❤❤
We plant garlic, too. 15th of October till beg. of November. So happy for the next year 😊 Thank you for showing us the way you store apples ❤
I so much enjoy your blogs. I look forward to it every week. You do a great job. I'm 68 and am trying to do a little prepping. Learning a lot from you. God bless you.
I wanted to share one of the ways I use butternut squash that I adapted from a video of yours. I make a soup with butternut squash, carrots, onions, garlic, chicken, chicken broth, and herbs. It is so delicious! I love this soup so much that I eat it several times a week. I make a big batch and freeze it in single size servings. Single servings work for me since I am older and my children no longer live at home. I tried canning it, but the flavor changes during the canning process. Thank you for your wonderful ideas.
Morning. Just can't wait until I get to watch your videos. They never seem long enough lol you are the highlight of my Sundays. God bless you and your family
The single layer of storing your winter squash is also very important! -makes great soups, especially with some wild rice!
Love all the fall happiness!😊❤
I ordered the magazine for my son and daughter in law 😊their anniversary is next month ❤I am sure they will love both magazines as well as the grands too😊
Thanks Jessica for sharing your video with us.
Hi, Jessica! Would you mind sharing where you bought the apple bags? Maybe put them in your amazon store front? Those would be great to have! Greetings from Finland, Rebecca
Our local apple orchard used to sprinkle the apples with water when putting them in plastic bags for storage to keep them fresh.
Good morning! We just came through a few days of blowing snow here near Whitehorse Yukon in northern Canada. Its great to see you enjoying the garden still🙂
Love watching you every Sunday!
Thanks so much
Thanks Jessica, always looking out for your Sunday afternoon video from South Africa
Love our Sunday mornings together! I want to preserve our pumpkins I have sitting on the porch! I want to seed save them too! So thanks for the tips! I also should plant some garlic! Don’t know if I’ll get to it this year though!! Love your content! Thanks for all the wisdom!! Love y’all!
Have always been a fan of Backwoods Home!
What wonderful helpers!❤
I had winter squash in the basement last year. Mice had a field day. Nice video! Such a hard worker!!
Today went really fast. Thank you.
Ordered both magazines. Won't be able to use much info out of them, but just like your videos... should be interesting !😊
Butternuts are our favorite. I make pies from them, we roast them on the grill and leftovers are made into a squash pancake. Just egg, some flour, salt, drop by large spoonfuls in a hot greased cast iron skillet, serve savory or sweet and always with butter, you can sweeten with syrup. ❤😊 nice vids!!
Thank you Jessica ❤❤❤❤
Another wonderful video. That is an impressive squash harvest for just a few little plants. When I saw your sponser, I squealed. Haha. My husband loves receiving his copies of Backwoods Home magazine in the mail. It is a great resource. I am excited to see that there is another line of magazines, too, and will have to check into that. Maybe it can be a Christmas gift to me, made even sweeter with the coupon code and savings. Thanks!
What i'm glad you're doing well. And planning garlic is very important. It's a lot.
Of medicine in garlic. I bless you and your family. It was good to see Adam. Tell him hi.
I love the two magazines you showed. Awesome source of info!
I planted 60+ cloves a week ago. Garden place said I didn't need blood meal for my garlic. I added rabbit manure, bone meal and organic fertilizer. Should I add anything? The soup you made looked delicious. I always look forward to your Sunday videos. Have a beautiful blessed day.❤❤❤
Greetings and blessings for you, the coming baby and all the family.from an already summery Santiago, Chile..
So much encouragement... and great idea about comfrey fertilizer for garlic. TY
You are so welcome!
