Matt says this beautiful Vibanet make’s him bring the Funk out, whereas I think that it’s Matt who brings the Funk in, whatever instrument he happens to play!
I remember getting turned onto Jamiroquai when I was about 15 by my foreign exchange student from Holland. He told me “man you like funk? You have to check this out.” .... been a fan ever since. Love it!
Someting about the marriage of the clav's sound and that action!! Even the best sampled clav sound on any other keyboard just doesn't cut it. The Clavinet's sound require's that light responsive action. Pure funk. Great hearing you bring it all to life.
Love this sooo much, such awesome playing, the Vibanet is so versatile as well, also love just before the “stillness in time” is that a slow groove of “virtual insanity” there’s so many great grooves here, damm I love funk! Thanks 🙏🏼 Matt awesome 😎 I can’t stop listening to this, but I’m gonna fire up the Kronos and call up a clav it won’t touch this but I can dream ...🎹🎶
3:41 Quite "All About Eve' sounding really......... 4:10 Not so much........ !!! :-) Thanks as always Matt - it's a joy to see and hear these classic instruments put through their paces by a true pro. Please keep the videos coming.
Yes... I will have large order of funk with and extra order of wah-wah please. Thank you Matt.... always enjoy your insights. The Vibanet is such a versatile instrument. 😎
Clavinet is my latest tripping joy, happened to see Dr. MIX Claudio play with one, when put through a tape delay it sounds like a exospace atmospheric canvas.. Surreal.. What an instrument
wondering about the "tuning issues" .. if at all, it just added some analog spice :) amazing video, amazing playing! oh and this jacket is also amazing. i want it ;D
Love your clav playing! Super inspirational (and simultaneously demoralizing!?). Hopefully one day I'll get half way as good as you. I don't have a clav, but I do have Soniccouture's awesome clav VST, which I prefer over the Scarbee one I had used before. Anyone who doesn't have the bucks or the space for a real clav, I encourage ya to check out the soniccouture.
I could watch you improvising all day : ) That’s one fine instrument you’ve got there, are you using a wah pedal or is there an envelope follower? Cheers !!
Cheers Matt, inspiring stuff, just what I need while the shed/studio defrosts this morning. Not a huge student of the Clav but that sounds as good as I've heard. Nice one! :)
The thing about a clav that people who haven't played one don't realize is the feel. You won't get that on a Nord or on a non-Pratt-Read keybed. The Clavinet key travel is short, followed by the rubber plunger which hammers the string. This creates a feeling that makes bouncy, staccato lines really fun. It IS a funk machine. The question is: What amp do you run it through?
Those knobs look EXACTLY like on my old Ampeg guitar amps (VT-22 and V2). Both Ampeg and VV are New Jersey companies. I imagine this can't be just a coincidence.
I really love the sound variation you can get from this kind of instrument. It's got more soul than soul, it's ridiculous. Of course synths can 'do more' but like a guitar or saxophone or any number of acoustic/electro-acoustic instruments there's just a magic behind actual physical objects creating the sounds.
Matt, in my opinion good instruments do not have to be blessed by famous people to be worth their salt but if so; this one is already more then blessed by being played by you. :-)
4:27 Is this take on 'Just the two of Us' by Grover Washington referring a particular cover or is it just transposed (to Bb Minor)? Sounds great in this rendition.
Matt, what is your preferred amp/speaker set up for this? A twin guitar amp or keyboard or pa amp? Same question for your vintage vibe please? Lovely playing btw. Big Fan.
Thanks matt you give me total inspiration fantastic your a genius Just trying a bit of hammond at the moment but it might sound a bit to soul like love it though thankyou sir
Matt says this beautiful Vibanet make’s him bring the Funk out, whereas I think that it’s Matt who brings the Funk in, whatever instrument he happens to play!
Matt could make Funk on a toy piano
@@Dublin_N would love to see that actually
I remember getting turned onto Jamiroquai when I was about 15 by my foreign exchange student from Holland. He told me “man you like funk? You have to check this out.” .... been a fan ever since. Love it!
Never heard aboud the Vibanet🤔
Sounds amazing, love your groovy playing👍
3:40 holy shit. This things is way more versatile than I ever expected. The chorus helped obviously
This thing takes effects extremely well like a Rhodes

Amazing instrument, great player, sweet jacket...
Omg that stillness in time riff
ok, that keyboard is nice and all. but i'm here for this playing. damn!
This is how I like to start a saturday morning! I'm a big fan. Tempest sounds great with the Vibanet, the whole jam was delightful.
Someting about the marriage of the clav's sound and that action!! Even the best sampled clav sound on any other keyboard just doesn't cut it.

There is so much to learn about funk keybord technique from this video! Thanks for sharing.
Jesus let there be some of those sounds on the new Jamiroquai album. This thing sounds soooo good. Awesome job Matt!
It's a beautiful work of art
Great sounding keys but, also your best video, so far. Nice work and thank you
How the Vibanet BREATHES in your hands!!! This thing is really alive!! Congrats!!! We love your art!!!

You are definitely THE PERSON on the planet to give that Vibanet a proper demo! It is cool that Stevie Wonder played your model!
Yes! In proper hands and soul this Clavinet sounds awesome! :) Was a real pleasure to listen all these pieces! Thanx, Matt!
Such great sounds and inspiring player.Magic.
Another one of these instruments that I wanna buy after seen you play it.
And then I realize I’d just rather listen to you play it.
What a machine, such cool funky sounds and played impeccably as always.
Great sounds. Works really well with the Tempest too. Matt is such a good keyboard player. Really gets into it. More please.

GREAT PLAYING & GREAT DEMO OF THIS SUPER MEGA FUNKY KEYBOARD !!!
Awesome sounds!
3:41 Quite "All About Eve' sounding really.........

Been a long time since a video funked my head up quite like this one :D
I like the megadose of vitamin wah at the end
I'm thinking to get one of vintage vibe too, or Crumar seven. Thanks for the demo Matt! Fantastic playing ;-)
this is sinfully funky
Also beautiful work on the Tempest
Wonderful Player!
Clavinet is my latest tripping joy, happened to see Dr. MIX Claudio play with one, when put through a tape delay it sounds like a exospace atmospheric canvas.. Surreal.. What an instrument
funky as heck
Seriously amazing! your are a master
Very Impressive! I'm posting this on my Keyboard group page!
It's great to get such cool videos from a real funky pro tickler ...
Thanks Matt
You Sir, have funk in your blood. Cheers.
Space Echo...Tempest....Vibanet...what a great studio!
Sounds so funky! I detected Bill Withers, Daft Punk and Jamiroquai songs!
Absolutely passed with You! VibaMatt...
Great sound !
Love the funk, Matt!
All these sounds are fantastic! Hope to hear something special with Jamiroquai for the next work!
Duuuuuuuude! Great playing as usual.
wondering about the "tuning issues" .. if at all, it just added some analog spice :)
amazing video, amazing playing!
oh and this jacket is also amazing. i want it ;D
That smile at 11:20...priceless!

Well done, thank you for this.
Awesome playing! Congratulation. You should make tutorials about how to play such funky stuffs.
Great sound!!!!👍💣
Oh, that lovely turnaround at 4:56.
Always great Matt ❤💯🙏
Uuuh - what heavenly sounds! Nice rendition of Two of us! What is the signal chain from clav to DAW?
The chain is GML preamp through Urei 1176 into DAW. On that one I added a phaser and spring reverb plug in at the end
I could watch you improvising all day : )
That’s one fine instrument you’ve got there, are you using a wah pedal or is there an envelope follower? Cheers !!
Sometimes an envelope follower which is built in and sometimes a way pedal
I've contacted Vintage Vibe a few times about the Vibanet, but no response. I'd love to order one. Hopefully they start up again with these.
Cheers Matt, inspiring stuff, just what I need while the shed/studio defrosts this morning. Not a huge student of the Clav but that sounds as good as I've heard. Nice one! :)
1st. Great sounding, great playing as always.
Did you study classically at first? Im learning piano but i love all these other keyboard instruments for their sound and tone. This is amazing!👍
Thanks, I have no classical training on piano
This one really brings the chords out
the steve funk shizzle!!wowzerz

The question is: What amp do you run it through?
I wasn't using an amp in this case, just direct in via a compressor
@@MattJohnsonJamiroquai I bought a '64 Bassman for my D6.
Right on man thats the true funk
Absolutely mind blowing
Is that a Jupiter 8 in the back ground thanks again sir
Those knobs look EXACTLY like on my old Ampeg guitar amps (VT-22 and V2). Both Ampeg and VV are New Jersey companies. I imagine this can't be just a coincidence.
Mmmm. Some Funky Chops with added Mint Sauce - the DSI Tempest!
Hallo Matt-
What type of amp and speaker set up when you’re giggling, and when you’re in the studio. Thanks. Love your playing and presentations.

4:27 Is this take on 'Just the two of Us' by Grover Washington referring a particular cover or is it just transposed (to Bb Minor)? Sounds great in this rendition.
Yes just jamming over that tune, I didn't know the original key!
It sounds so full unlike some rather tinny clav samples I've played in the past
Eyeing that Jupiter 8 in the corner the whole episode
Same with the Roland Space Echo in every episode
Matt, what is your preferred amp/speaker set up for this? A twin guitar amp or keyboard or pa amp? Same question for your vintage vibe please? Lovely playing btw. Big Fan.
I am always just DI'ing both of them although I sometimes run them through a guitar amp plug in such as a FENDER TWIN type amp!
Thanks matt you give me total inspiration fantastic your a genius
Just trying a bit of hammond at the moment but it might sound a bit to soul like love it though thankyou sir
Literally vibin
