  • This is a quick recording of my first ten or so minutes with the Soma Cosmos. What a beguiling device. Totally random improvisation with a cello vst and piano. Piano is Teletone Postcard Piano. Thanks for lending it to me ‪@roadside_picnics‬

      It definitely is & I’m debating on it VS EHX 95000.

      @@Folkstone1957 whoa serious! The 95000 would be more controllable. Cosmos seems to prefer if you kinda just surrender to it.

    Gorgeous track! Definitely I love soma cosmos… what it makes is really inspiring in any genre but mostly for ambient or relaxed music.

      Thank you!! Cosmos is almost a meditation device. I would just sit there and have the sounds whirl around in the most relaxed, unpredictable way. 🥰

    So lush... gorgeous sounds are crafted when this Machine is used in creative hands/minds. Love what Cosmos has the capability to do as a Large Desktop FX Sound Box. I would love to have one but haven't got the funds. Perhaps If I concentrate and WILL it to materialize in front of me, a Cosmos would appear??? Do create more incredibly emotional impactful Soundscapes please ~💡🎶🎹👏🏽🎛💥❗️

    Hey! This sounds beautiful - can you just briefly explain how you send your VST’s to the Cosmos from your DAW? Thanks!!

    • @basementlyle
      @basementlyle  Рік тому +3

      Thanks so much! Ok I use Logic as my main DAW and I just use a send on the channel in question. Usually this means either output 3 or 3&4 on my interface. I'm using a MOTU m4 as my interface because the outputs have very low noise and the pedals seem fine with it. It is way easier if you have at least 4 outs and 4 ins on the interface. Lots of people use a re-amp box to help with impedance matching but I don't. Then I just add a couple of new audio tracks and record.

      @@basementlyle ah amazing! Thank you for that run down! Can’t help but think how lovely this would sound with some Noire Felt Piano / Spitfire Strings within my own workflow.

    I love this - I own a cosmos for ambient but the real reason I got it is because I want to do THIS - but how? I would love to use a cello sound like that... do you do it on an iPad?? How can i learn more about VSTs and how you use with Cosmos?

    • @basementlyle
      @basementlyle  7 місяців тому +2

      Thanks! If you have an interface with 4 ins and 4 outs, you can do the re-amp thing easily. I was using a MOTU M4 and Logic Pro when I recorded this. It is class compliant so it should work with the newer iPads too (I think)Otherwise, if you are only using your iPad as a sound source ( I used Spitfire Labs Cello as the instrument for this) you can run the headphone out to a dual 1/4" cable to run into your Cosmos, then record it on something else. I'm not sure if that helps. :)

    Very Nice sounds. Do you think the cosmos would work nicely with a pan drum as input Instrument?

    • @basementlyle
      @basementlyle  Рік тому +1

      Thank you! I think Cosmos would sound fantastic on anything but I bet with the shorter attack of the pan drum there would be some amazing interactions with the delays (and maybe with the compressor too). The preamps on Cosmos are phenomenal. It's a very special effect indeed. 😍

    • @basementlyle
      @basementlyle  Рік тому

      Sure! I have a plan to make another video maybe this weekend, and I'll include drums. I'll also try some different firmware. :)

    • @basementlyle
      @basementlyle  Рік тому +2

      OK so I tried with drums the other day, and had some trouble getting it to cooperate. I think the lack of tap tempo and midi etc... makes It tricky. I think what I'll do next is send only one piece of the drums through it like hi-hat or snare because when I sent the whole kit through it was just mayhem.
