What's different this Summer compared to the Community Updates is that VSH-VScript has been [almost] finished when Valve got to decide if they want to include it. There was a guarantee on what they're getting, while a Community Update of the old style could end up being anything.
VSH was made and then picked. Community Updates were picked and then made.
For the October update, I'm personally hoping that we get to have a choice between Saxton Hale, The Horseless Headless Horseman and MERASMUS!.
There is a wip Halloween map made by the ones who made the vsh there is only saxton. But he got a new Halloween skin tho

VSH as a Mercs vs Boss characters game mode would be great. making normal boss characters and also making some of the Halloween bosses playable would be intersting.
Saxton Hale as one of the normal boss characters would be interesting. What about other normal characters? a Lumberjack for Lumberyard, Offblast with some Rocket Silo Patroller, Park Ranger for Watchtower, Ravine with a Security Guard and more would be cool to have for normal Arena mode bosses and for VSH variants.
i would love to see a Deathrun mode where the mercs have to deal with a psychotic mad scientist, possibly from the medic's Past, and go through all these Robe goldburg style traps.
the problem is deathrun just isn't that fun, you take advantage of none of tf2's mechanics with it
I feel like if deathrun were to be added in the game in some shape or form it would probably be in Halloween. Imagine a giant Saw parody starring Merasmus. One person plays as Merasmus setting up magical traps, while everyone else tries to get through alive.

@@Iron_Soil That's a great idea, the only issue is then the map might be too short, or the rounds go on too long. The best deathrun would be a less stale one, where death can place traps and the team can use their abilities, or each gain a special ability or something.

I’m just saying if we get the zombie v-script mode for Halloween I think they’ll bring a lot of positive energy back to the game. It already has a lot of positive energy, but he zombies in Saxton hale in the same year dialled you. Crazy numbers for the community.

I honestly really like the VSH Gamemode! (despite the fact that I die a lot)
The Gamemode itself has the goofiness of the CTF Maps, with the random people messing around with goofy gimicks like "Engineer who laughs at Sentry" as an example, while also having the Objective being simple enough for everyone to understand
"Shoot the Big Guy and LIVE."
I can honestly see the Deathrun gamemode becoming official through either Scream Fortress, where Merasmus forces the Mercs to go through all these spooky traps and what not.
If not through Scream Fortress, it can either through be the Mercs on the run from the Robots, or to possibly have them running from the TFC Mercs. The VSH Gamemode has Grey Mann talking and with saying that he's "The new CEO of Mann. Co" which is something that happened in the Comics, so this can be a possibility

Let me preface this by saying, yes, I know only 2 part time contractors are working on TF2. I personally think the reason Valve added VSH was because they have nearly completely lost all sense of quality control of TF2 (not saying VSH is of poor quality) and they simply don't care. Like in the player model on the HUD, it's Heavy, I doubt it would have been that hard for Valve to make it be Saxton. They added it to temporarily satiate our hunger for more content and because it was already wrapped up in a sweet little package ready to go. We did have that little hiccup with casual not knowing how to add it but that doesn't really bother me because this is brand new. The voice actors (Robin Atkin Downes, Gary Schwartz, Dennis Batemen and John Lowre) have made it very clear that they really want to get back in the studio and work for the game. Valve probably didn't even think to contact them about this, and they probably won't ever. Pure speculation, but I can almost guarantee that if the new voices were horrible, Valve would have still added it to the game. If we do get a community update with new weapons it won't be out of a newfound trust that valve has, it'll be out of pure laziness and a total drop in standards. Valve does not care anymore.
I just thought I'd point out some very important points that you, and other viewers, maybe did not know. This new version of VSH that was added to the game was made by Lizard of Oz (I don't know if he did it alone), not Valve. He made some UA-cam updates after Vscript became a thing for TF2, so anyone who is curious about it should look for those. The reason the original voice actors did not provide their talents is because Valve had nothing to do with the creation of the mode or maps. It was entirely community made, and the voicelines are built into the vscript of the maps. Obviously, had Valve been the creators of the mode, they would have brought in the gang to do their own custom voice work, if they decided to add voice lines at all.
I absolutely love the community VSH. I have spent countless hours on multiple different servers playing it with friends and it was always a blast.
Seeing it in Casual in such an updated way is really awesome, even if they now banished it to the Misc section of the Alternative Gamemodes. But hey, that's where a couple of my favorite maps already live so... not a big deal.
VSH is what made the summer update special. It opens the door to who-knows-what being added in future seasonal updates, and it's a nice way to introduce new content in the game in an era where Valve won't do anything themselves

it's not the first community game mode that has been in the “official” category, it's just that the other was limited to Halloween for many years. Also, it's not summer now lol

And that's about it for characters outside the TF2 cast has for villains. Maybe Scout, Spy, Heavy, Medic, Demoman, Engineer, Sniper and Pyro could have some antagonists? And I don't mean the former blue mercenaries either, they really and honestly didn't last long enough to be considered rivals, and that fake Santa Claus "died" too soon and Steve Jobs was a one-off.

Fun fact: Oz tried to rehire the same person for the og game mode but unfortunately due to inactivity he couldn’t reprise his role
With VSH staying permanently from the looks of it, I hope this is a mode that will get new maps over time, because I haven't had this much fun playing TF2 in a lonnngggg time.
And hopefully, it might just be enough for the gamemode to get it's own slot on the menu tab. With 4 maps already there, and the uniqueness of the mode, it's weird seeing it lumped into misc with other standalone gamemodes that are just twists on previous modes.
As a newer TF2 player(like 2020), seeing a community game mode become a reality is a very fun thing. I had a lot of fun playing VSH and only hope it expands from there

Putting VSH in the misc queue made me worry that there'd be barely any servers to queue for, but since it was added there I've been consistently finding misc games to join.
Idk why bc I have no clue how the queue system really works, but has valve finally given us more servers to play misc on?
No, just more people wants to play it. So you have more servers automatically. The servers are what people want them to be.

I hate that valve took the 2 community updates as a show that a community run update can never work ever again and none of it is Valves fault lol. They really expected to just throw money at random strangers and hope they don’t fight about it. They’re essentially your employees, you’re hiring them. You need to step in and lay down the ground rules if they’re starting pissy fights over the work. They just expected to tell a bunch of strangers “hey, we’re giving money out indiscriminately to you, put out a AAA title update and don’t cause any problems”. Community updates were a great idea, and a combination of idiot and selfish selection of community members and Valves laziness and apathetic nature just screwed it all up.

Also the reason the voice actors didn't participate is most likely because of the Hollywood actors strike. I think I remember hearing that the tf2 VAs were participating in that.
For taunts, only specific ones kill the Hale's partner: Flippin Awesome and Skullcracker. High Five on the video is safe.

As a matter of fact, I had lots of fun playing on Alternative gamemodes like special delivery and all that stuff…just wish there were more players that knows it exists

Not related to the video, but I consider the new version of Saxton Hale better. Buuuuuuuuuuuut, The only thing I don’t like is that Saxton basically has random crits/Saxton Punch.
not really to do with the video but it's been bugging me for weeks, the voice lines for VSH are broken and they won't play for me anymore!!!!! i think it's an issue for multiple people and i hate how the creator hasn't fixed it grrr!!!!
oh and death run wouldn't really suit outside of community servers tbh, i feel like it's a bit too different from casual TF2 to be added in.

vscript vsh is not getting any new bosses or huge balance changes so it will forever be extremely unfun to fight against a brave jump spamming hale

instead of thinking "hmmmm maybe he shouldnt be able to fly 24/7" he thought "map design issue"
he doesnt recognize that there is anything wrong with the gamemode so its just gonna die and be populated by friendlies, while casual players return to the regular game and vsh fans return to sourcemod
and its just sad to see because old vsh isnt good either, with the meta being so stagnant and set in stone that, if anyone tried to say, nerf the mantreads trolldier playstyle, there would be outrage

This is why I am against the zombie mode currently on the workshop. The map selection is mostly poor, it's a gamemode that literally will not work outside of a halloween restriction (which would hinder it heavily) and well, nobody really asked for it either. It seems to me they're trying to ride off VSH's unexpected success in being added. I'd much rather maps like Circus get added
