*WOW* !! *GREAT to see affordable small trailers made in the USA* !! #TFLOffRoad
Yeah, until you go to the website and see the true prices.. That base model 5x8 trailer is $5595.00. So they aren't affordable if you're looking for a simple set up.
@Emiliano Jedidiah what are you doing, honestly embarrassing you would result to that or even think about doing that just ask her to go on it
Runaway campers.
Made in USA with Cheap Chinese Parts. lol
I just went to their webpage and the least expensive option they show is $5595 now! That's even without the box or any solar panels. I guess it was nice while it lasted.
Still the best price you will find brian...
@@breedof1 If spending 80% more than billed is no big deal then for 80% more than that you can get a fully equipped Braxton Creek or Sherpa. By the time you add a couple things to the new $5600 base package you are at $10k range those other guys are.
@@bryanhersman4037 they have the best bang for your buck by far. The only cheaper ideal option for something similar is building one yourself. I bought my hiker for just over 7k and it has everything you needdddd...
@@breedof1 well I spent $3000 more on a Braxton Creek and it has everything I WANT. Plus I didn't have to drive to Colorado to get it or pay $1000 more to have it delivered.
@Paul Ridgeway look at Sherpa
Man, these things jumped up $2,500 since last year. Entry level is now $5,500.
I don't know what happened between June 2020 and now (August 2021) but the price has nearly doubled !!!! $5594!! Thanks for getting my hopes up T.T
It’s about time you all show an affordable option in the small camper world...thank you.
Get plans online elsewhere and build your own...search diy travel trailer websites.
By the website the price for the base model is now double, but it is 1 foot wider.
Glad you think $30,000 is affordable for a 13 foot metal tent.
Sorry devil-dog but these are not affordable! p.s. Ooh-rah!!
People be wondering why camper trailers are so expensive when a literal empty box on wheels costs $3K.
Totally agree. Don’t see the purpose for this . So many well made tents these days
Right,I picked up a 10×14 canvas kodiak tent on sale for $500 and I'll just take my utility trailer for kayaks and gear
Ive tent camped a lot and I'll take a hard shell over fabric for sleeping anytime.
It isn't just a box for $3k however. This has a nice assortment of features. A nearly naked cargo trailer of similar size is in the same price category and you have to work on it some to resemble something to camp in.
As for the tent, I would relegate that to day use to hang out, eat, and so on. Jmho, ymmv, fwiw, etc.
You pay a little more for safety! Wild bears , criminals .
Many trailers are expensive because you pay for ultra light materials so they're towable, especially if for today's common SUVs that can only tow 1500-3500lbs. You also get a comfortable bed, windows that open with screens, power air vent (which makes ALL the time in summer), furnace (again needed in cold climate), water, sink, fridge/freezer, lights, stove, table, lots of storage, protection from harsh elements, animals, noise, etc. Tenting is fun but especially when young but a small trailers for many is worth the investment 😊 You can save money by buying a heavy trailer but you'll need a truck that can tow heavy so you'll be paying more in gas.
Prices have changed dramatically since this was posted. Cheapest model is now $5595.
I just came to comment same thing. Its disappointing to say the least.
Well they lost a lot of business from that lol
Well price of material have gone way up in spring summer of 2021. A sheet of plywood .5 inc thick is pushing 80.00 bucks. So you have to look at all sides.
@@chax2004 and metal too. I had trailer axles in my ebay cart for over a year and they went up in price by at least $100
Thank Biden
that 3000 is pretty good even that 4000 one. just to carry a mattress, food and my clothing. i dont spend the entire day inside the trailer nor do i have a lot of company with me when i go camping. just a shelter for the rain. a safe and secure place to store the food instead of carrying everything in the truck bed. I can sleep on truck stops instead of renting a room 👍 ill be looking into it. as long as is road legal, affordable, and great for camping im in.
Finally a company that charges realistic prices for small sleeper trailers. I never understood the point of a $30K teardrop trailer when you could just buy a van or large SUV and outfit it for the same or less money. At 5 to 10K, these make a lot of sense for people who want something small and light.
Let's see... Larger vehicle's cost more for fuel, repairs, insurance, more difficult to drive and park, don't fit some garages. Also "outfitting" a larger SUV how? By adding a tent attachment? You're left with a soft top tent and sleeping in your SUV. Much less storage, no protection from harsh elements, animals, theft, bugs, noise. Hot weather you'll be roasting, cold weather you'll be freezing. Trailers also offer noise insulation, more room, power fans for airflow, heaters, power, fridge/freezer, toilet/shower, stove and much more storage. Big differences. Big part of cost for these little campers is the lightweight materials that so typical SUVs these days can tow them.
I myself have a 2019 Rav4 for day to day and bought a 2016 Prolite Mini for $12,000 last summer (1050lbs dry) for our weekend trips to mountains. Easy to tow, easy setup and small enough to park in our driveway and still park our SUVs in garage!
@@James-il3tq The thing that I think many people don't always get is what you're looking at. This isn't the first affordable offroading/overlanding teardrop/small camper out there. Not even close. Maybe really good quality, value, customizability? But not the first, not by a longshot. I'm not trying to necessarily justify the prices, but I think people need to take stock of what they're looking for. If you're a very barebones camper type person and you don't want every gadget under the sun for maximum comfort on your trailer, then just don't buy a heavy duty offroader loaded with gadgets and gizmos. Really. If you don't want it or get it chances are you aren't the demographic it's being marketed to. It's like buying a car. If the car is all you care about and you don't need the best trim level with every option under the sun, then spend less money! Fine! But don't go on and on about how you 'don't understand' the product and 'don't get' how that price could be charged for it. Prices are by nature a subjective taste. Every product has someone to sell to.
Maybe you really like small vehicles and pushing the boundary of how small you can get and price isn't really an object for you when it comes to camping and going everywhere you want. BRS Offroad, TVAN, Black Series - expensive and small campers sure but loaded with features, quality, and some of the best in lightweight materials that push the boundaries of just how much a small camper can be. Sherpa, Hiker, Bear, Terradrop, these can also all get the job done, and just as well, but that simplicity doesn't always appeal to people who want more of a lifestyle from their camper.
@@theinstitute1324 Good comment. My wife and I travel extensively, pulling a nucamp t@b 400 boon dock lite. This is our second trailer, our first was a smaller 320 CS-S. What we personally found was the smaller rig was nice for a couple of trips, then we had some bad weather and were basically stuck inside. That's when you come to either appreciate what you have, or in our case, realize what we had wasn't meeting our needs. After a year, we knew we needed something light weight, affordable, something that offered enough space inside where we could be comfortable on a rainy day, a separate eating and sleeping area, and a wet bath. For us, the 400 answered all of that. I didn't need a special tow vehicle, it's fairly light weight coming in just under 3000lbs empty. Has a just under queen size bed, a small separate eating area and wet bath. Solar provides power to everything except the A/C, so we are particular when we go boon docking weather wise. As for the above VAN comment; on our last outing a brand new Sportsmobile parked next to us. Once upon a time a Sportsmobile had been our dream RV, but it was just too expensive. Naturally, we got to talking to the owners and of course comparing rigs. Great couple, showed us all the cool stuff about their rig but when my wife asked about a wet bath, the lady (wives were about the same age) said she didn't want one at the time. They have an outdoor shower but no toilet. I think they paid somewhere around 100k for their van. The group then moved over to our 400 and the wives disappeared inside. About 10-mins later they came out and the first thing she said was "they have a shower and toilet and they don't have to make the bed up if they want to sit and eat". She admitted she regretted not getting a wet bath or even a cassette toilet. Laughing she said it made sense until about day 4-when she had to pee and had to go outside in the rain. My suggestion to anything thinking about a small RV or trailer is to rent one and experiment with it. Everything is always great on beautiful sunny days, but think about the process of setting up or breaking camp in the rain, or what you'll do if your stuck inside for a day.
@@James-il3tq You'd be surprised what one can do with a good work van. Hell, most camper vans are just modified work vans. Of course, that requires having a work van.
.
Ultimately, though, if someone can't afford to buy a dedicated vehicle, they have to go with options they can afford that work with that they've got, right? That's definitely where these small, light trailers come in. A lot of people don't seem to get that for some reason.
Agreed but use something reliable like diesels or Toyota
After seeing your four wheel camper video for over 30 grand it's nice to see a more affordable option.
What a difference a year makes. None of these trailers in available for under $5600 now.
there is a company in FL Called WeeRoll that produces "cargo" trailers that are ready for conversion.
you order the shell with the number of windows, size etc, then then insulate and wire it up for you. it's up to you how much or little you want
Actually the runaway is cheaper but yeah....I love hiker trailers. I've camped in them at the overland expo.
The Runaway CoolCamp starts at $4695 now. These have all increased so damn much.
@@jeepjive8125 inflation and higher quality materials
Weeroll are being competitive.
It’s more like screwing people over for crappy metal tents..
Looks like some nice trailers starting at $2,900.
True perfect for couples
But...for around $2100.00 ya can buy a new 6'X12' cargo trailer & have more room & enough height in order to be able to stand straight up! (for the standard height one provided your not over 6'1"...unless ya buy an extended height one).
2900 gets you basically a box with wheels: or coffin.
@@paulallison6689 yeah, and tow a parachute around behind you. the small trailer will barely touch your fuel eco cause it looks like it sits inside the low pressure area behind your car. for 3k for a finished trailer that's not half bad. also, where do you find cargo trailers so cheap? a 6x12 is like nearly 4 grand in canada.
@1234 make sure you get the wheel bearing auto greaser, those HF trailer wheel bearings are sketchy at best. otherwise okayish.
Awesome I’m so Glad you guys here and in Canada are covering these products...As I’m in the market as I’m sure many others are with all the things going on in our country.
Thank you for taking the time to find a company that most of us can actually afford!
Great way to get into a trailer cheep and you can add on upgrades yourself later as you learn how you use it!!!
I bought one of these. They tow like a dream and are very customizable even out of the factory.
Awesome I’m actually thinking about getting one next month
@@bigshirley3141 I'm getting one in about a month, or early August. I ordered it 10 months ago.
Thanks for the reference! 👍
Terebrate it took ten months ??
@@Tonemalone.. At the time I ordered it late August 2019, they said it'd take "about a year". When I last had email contact with them a month ago, they were projecting it to be ready late July or early August. So I hope that within a month I'll be able to pick it up.
7 months later it's $5,595.00 "Thanks COVID". :D
Exactly! They no longer have reasonable priced trailer
What was once fully loaded at 16k is now mid 20's. Lol Definitely not a budget or reasonable purchase anymore.
I liked the extreme offroad option at the end but HELL NO at $30,000 .😳
Looks like I need to head down to denver with my outback and pick up a new camper.
Wait time is a year and a half.
@@jeanetteshawredden5643 I found another company out of Indiana that makes the square drop campers and the wait time was 8 months. Another company that makes them is the weeroll. Reasonable priced as well but the wait time is so long. Guess I'll just keep camping out of my outback. I do alot of dispersed camping anyways so not sure a camper would be a good fit for me anyways.
I almost bought one of these but I found a sweet military m416 and customized it for a roof top tent.
Justin King .....do you have a video? Would love to see it
Nice.
Awesome
This seems right up my alley.
Bare bones is coming in at $3,795. I guess the price is going up $200 per month.
I'm not surprised. Their material costs have to be going through the roof when a 2x4 now costs $9
I think 4K option is the perfect unit for the occasional weekender !! Im glad to see there is a company accommodating for the lower price point. Super cool!!
even the 2.8k, like super reasonable. most of these tiny campers start at like 5 grand for similar shit.
@@0xsergy According to their webpage today now they are over $5000 as well.
@@bryanhersman4037 yep, you're right lol. i was just saying that based on this video.
Good job at making a basic small camper for less. It's nice that you have options to go larger and more comfortable.
Great series. You should check
out Runaway Campers. They are less money and include A/C.
Lower price models seem cool. But 30k and no bathroom? No thanks!
these are not units you'd want to drop a deuce in, lol. bring a roll of toilet paper and dig a hole, ain't nothin fancy needed.
Keep a honey pot with you and a pop up privacy tent to use as a privy.
Basically, this basic trailer can be made useable by adding some basic items. Basically the basic price is basically not the true basic price.
I was literally reading Outside Magazine’s review of this trailer when this video was posted. Seems like a great option and Made in America. Win-win!
@Truth Seeker 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 your joke is so funny. I love when jealous Aholes can't stop themselves from commenting and showing everyone their ass.
It would be nice of most RV manufacturers offered an "empty" version of their popular models. Imagine a 15' GeoPro with an Empty Package that customers can outfit as they like an to their budget. I would have a retail of less than $8,000.
We bought one of these used, and it's been the best decision! We love it!
This gave me (average joe) hope because it’s so affordable...
You can always buy a small enclosed trailer for less than this and have a lot more. Just an idea
Keep hoping. Because those are NOT their prices.
Yeah it looks like as soon as this aired they raised the prices. Just go buy a cargo trailer from Lowe's or Home Depot. Outfit how you want and save money on the features you don't really want or need.
Must have gone up drastically in price seeing as the base model is just under 6k now....
Was going to order one, don’t think I’m going to now. :/
@@ryanfoster2437 check out outbound trailers out of Nebraska
A 6x12 cargo trailer is cheaper, and you can stand up in it
@deniseparker3580 dry weight depends on brand, construction type, size and many other factors. Anywhere from 800-1500lbs I would guess.
Welp, checked their website today and their prices are now double as what is listed in this video. Lowest price is over 5200 bucks. Not saying it's not worth it, but that's a HUGE increase. That certainly made my interest drop.
Ha! Follow-up, lowest priced trailer is now 5600 bucks. A jump of $400 since a month ago. Yeah, so much for your selling point guys. Good luck.
Gotta say this is now my favorite video from you guys very well priced and perfect for 1or 2 people and can be towed by a smaller vehicle.
Could you do a mpg test towing a midrange one?
Tow it with the Tesla model X and see how it does with a lighter trailer.
My friend has one of these that weighs 1400lbs, tows it with V6 Ridgeline. They average 16 mpg on highway going 70mph. Even these small campers cut down fuel economy by at least 40%.
$3K is still a lot of money for a box on wheels.
I bought a 2020 Subaru Ascent just to tow my new to me pop-up trailer. I’m happy that it has a 5000 pound towing capacity
Went to website, nothing under $15000
Prices on everything have shot up lately. Building materials are crazy high right now.
So true! I put my hiker order in last November. Hiker raised there prices in January. I get my trailer in Sept.
as of 2023 the price of the most basic highway delux 5x8 is $9999😁
Yeah crazy how much prices rose.
Thank you very much for showing the trailers and it is a fairly good deal..myself personally I would buy a $5,000 used van.. of course I am a poor broke weirdo.. but I do like those trailers..thanks🤔😂👌👍🍺🍻🤗
Shopping around for a trailer.. Something to look into thanks
WOW. I have been looking at these types for a while this is awesome.
Lowest price for base model December 2021 $5595.00. How much of that $2600 increase is material costs and how much is profit margin in a pandemic? 🤔
Loved the trailer until i saw 13 month wait on it. Going to have to go elsewhere, cant wait that long.
this was on my list (Escapod was another but also a minimum 8 month wait). I found Escapade Camper in MN. Similar to this, with Timbren axleless suspension and an 8 WEEK turnaround. I pick it up in 3 weeks. just in time for some September camping
We need more travel trailer videos!!!!
LOL, that much for the deluxe job and you still only get a solid axel with leaf springs! Buy a harbor freight and put a wood box on it, basically the same thing. :)
starting at $3000
goes on website..
starting at $5595
Loving this new camper video's that you are all doing. thanks so much always great info.
Too bad they are in Colorado. Just can't support companies in leftist states. Not like it would be hard to make these.....
They might turn red after next winter when their energy cost is going to ↗️. Not to mention they make it illegal to have a wood stove in a lot of places. SMH why you can't have a Franklin stove in friggin CO.
@@CharlieK92004 I just heard about that, its absolutely crazy. Its very useful and ultimately efficient when combined with proper forest management. Smh.
Hiker trailers are cool and affordable. I wonder why they don't trim that plastic that covers the screw strips by the name of each trailer? It sticks out on almost every one you filmed....
it shrinks
You can buy a small 5x8 cargo trailer around $1800 and deck it out any way you want, these don't seem so affordable to me
wow inflation has hit this company really hard... base pricing now starts at $6000. double the amount in less than 3 years
Hope no one goes to their website to check on prices... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is it insulated?
This video helped me decide to build my own trailer. For $3500 I built a trailer I’m happy with that I know I wouldn’t be able to buy in that price range.
What dimensions?
@@chrisE815 I went 4’ x 7.5’ with no galley on the rear. Came out under 700 lbs and has 32” off-road tires.
@@NuclearFacility wow awesome
Realistically most of the units are over $7K once you option them out. It is still a good deal compared to what else is on the market. I bought a 5x9 basic model and have kept it fairly simple. For us it is trailer to hold all our camping gear which we can hook up to the van for weekend trips easily without having the need of packing/unpacking all our gear every camping trip.
So its small cargo trailer with a cheap batteries for 3 grand extra got it !
Hey man don't forget they add some silicone caulking on the seams so it's virtually ✨"Waterproof"✨
There goes the neighborhood. The price of the basic trailer jumped by $1000. It’s now $3,800 not worth it
Wish they made a 6ft wide version.
Why would they take 2 feet away for shelves long ways on the bigger trailer. Doesn’t make any sense.
Too bad the price has almost doubled in a year. Website isn't very user friendly either.
Thats actually a pretty solid deal
You guys should look at the taxa tiger moth. It's a really interesting design for a small overland camper.
Top of my list and around $18k
And way overpriced.
i gotta say that tigermoth looks super overpriced for what it is. it's also fairly heavy, 1400lbs is a lot. i've seen some of these small campers get down to 500-600lbs. In fact these Hikers are like 700lbs so far more reasonable to tow especially for that price point..
These don’t come with a kitchen, table, sofas already installed ?
I think $5k is the magic number for these types of trailers. And that one looks well worth it. When you start saying these little trailers cost $10k i stop listening. I just saw one on another UA-cam channel thats starts at $14K😳
5800 for a trailer with a box on it that you cant even stand up in..... a trailer costs like 700 dollars at lowes, the wood and materials you need to make the box are all right there and would probably only cost another grand, and you might even be able to stand up in it!
Damn, these have gone up! Even the base one is $6k now :(
These sure went up in price huh? cheapest im seeing $5,600! wow
And now 7200
Very cool, keeping the price low, runaway use to have affordable campers, now they are getting too expensive, they started out with that whole religious speech, but money talks, their whole attitude changed 🤔
Runaways are better optioned for a lot less money. Not sure you’ve studied their packages closely.
Love this stuff, thanks Andre and TFL team!
I went to the website and did not find one under $3000
When this vid came out in June of 2020 they actually were sub $3k. Sad that since then it’s gone up around $800.
@@jarhead6153 oh wow
I am not sure how my wife would feel sleeping in one of these versus a tent. In the end we would have to perform a fart test. If it lingers for more than 2 minutes that would be 🤔
If you opt for the MaxxFan, she wont ever notice it! It will suck that fart right out before she catches even a wiff! I shall quote my source: me... my husband tried it 2 days ago!
I, for one, am really enjoying Campers Corner. I will be purchasing a travel trailer in the near future, and you are helping me a great deal. Thank you!
I checked them out a few years ago. But they were so backlogged they didn't get back to me for 3 months. Hope they have production increased, really liked them.
I did the same, ordered one back in 2016 I think and it wouldn't be ready for eight months, So I called them back up and canceled it.
What a weird place to put a solar panel...shaded by the trailer itself most of the time.
Cute little trailer but how can you call it cheap when it's the same price than a 6x12 cargo trailer? What does the basic model have more than a cargo trailer? A fan and a 50$ solar panel? Come on!
Best option would be to buy the basic off road version with the tent option on top so you can sleep in the tent and use the camper for storage, electrical and food prep
For the price of the “basic” off roader there are more affordable choices. But still very nice cargo rv
I looked at these (they have two plants, Denver and Indianapolis). Nice trailer but price wise they were not nearly as well optioned as the Runaway Camper. For 4500 bucks they even give you A/C, a bed and zero wood in construction.
1234
True, hiker was on my final list of two. Runaways are produced by family in Florida. They have dealers in Tulsa, Chattanooga, and somewhere in Pennsylvania. I love both. I went to see them at their plant in Indy ( one in Denver and Indy ) but they were evidently closed due to virus at that time.
I looked at Runaway Camper’s website, and they seemed more expensive for what you get. I wouldn’t want an air conditioner because it’s always cold out night where we go camping, so it would just take up room. Plus, I enjoy having a kitchen galley. They didn’t seem to offer a galley.
Doris Ann Mertz
I get ya. I live in the Midwest and it gets way to hot here for no A/C; at least for this old man. I loved hiker but after I got what I wanted on it the price quickly soared to 7 or 8 grand, and like I said, their plant in Indy was closed or I’m pretty sure I would have ordered one on the spot.
@@dorisannmertz2443 FYI - Runaway will NOT do any alterations for you. No galley, no fans, no upgrades.
I have this trailer. It's a 4x8 Hiker Basic that is basically a hard sided tent, which is exactly what I wanted. After I added options it came to around $7000. It was built to my specs and took about 10 months to get. It's about 800lbs, so easy for my Jeep to pull. I take it down dirt roads and it's fine. Very high quality. I got tired of setting up camp in the rain and I can camp in winter too.
I don't see a trailer under $3000 on the website?
$3k sound much better than $30k for a tiny Colorado tear drop trailer
Great low budget trailer!
These things are crap, you can make this for cheaper
Yep, way cheaper.
Great line of trailers. Nice tour. Thank You! =Cosmo
I want something like this to share with my parents. I worry about my mom not wanting to go cause she isn't as adventurous as she use to be. My dad is the one who is looking at hiking across the north pole next year when he turns 60.
I kind of want an interior with a kitchen and bathroom.
i want to stand up in my trailer
nice job on the campers.
Wow.. what a rip off ...
Yea, look at all the idiots that think its a great deal. WOW
I just went camping with a 2008 Fleetwood Taos pop-up camper with a 4" lift and 26" tires. It has one queen-sized bed, a full-size bed, a two-burner stove, dining table, furnace, sink, and inverter. It's worth about $5k. It has all the ground clearance of these "off-road" campers and has a ton more room and features for a third of the price. It looks like with these Hiker campers, you get basically a hollow box with some shelves, windows, and a bunch of expensive add-ons that any reasonably capable person could add to a much less expensive trailer.
I did the YT search for off-road RV trailers, and I get this page with trailers that are basically nothing more than small cargo trailers with a lift and some windows for three times the price. Hard fail.
Great looking trailer and I really like the off road model but for $30,000 WOW 😳😬😬😳 Ummm no thanks,
the base one starts at 2800 tho, super reasonable for a teardrop given most other companies bases start at 2-3x that.
The Extreme Off Road actually starts at around $7500. It's only $30k if you add all the additional options
Great video
Great basic trailer, glad they start low then work up instead of only having deluxe models. I'd love to see an option for rear hatch instead of door. Need something to block rain and provide shade, protect you/your stuff or if you have a narrow spot or don't have time to deploy canopy off the side and need a meal or access to gear.
Like that these are customizable and seem to be a lot more affordable than most trailers.
Yeah, problem with hiker is the 13 month minimum lead time. I don’t care how good of deal it is, that’s ridiculous.
This is great! These, for the most part, are the right prices for tear drop trailers. You should never spend over 12k for these things. Also check out outbound trailers out of Nebraska. Similar price range
Their Instagram says they're based out of Indiana? Unless it's another company with an identical name and similar logo?
Good one 👍
Nothing close to 3k on their website.
looks even cheaper than it really is.
