I have to agree about the axle ratio. I think 4.10s would wake the truck up and the ZR2 and Bison should have come with them. I also had a 5th gen Ranger FX4. I have a 2024 and just got back from a 3,705mi trip in 10 days up to Glacier, and then down to Moab for a couple days wheeling before heading home. Did Gemini Bridges both ways, and a few side roads (deep sandy washes with aggressive approach angles to the bottom), deep ruts, ledges, and it handled everything with ease, like it was nothing. Not the best mpg, but I think I averaged about 17.5 for the whole trip including 85mph highway speeds (uphill) and passing 18-wheelers up to the 100mph limiter, plus all the offroading at 10mpg, so, not bad overall. No trouble except the occasional adaptive cruise control glitch. I bought mine March 16th 2024, and now have 8,150-ish miles. LOVE it!

Agree as the Raptor gears are great and the manual Toyota Tacoma for 2024 comes with 4.30 gears. At least on the Toyo, buyers of automatics know the ratio is out there to buy.
@@barrytunzelmann6010 I'd imagine the 4th gen manual taco is on 4.30s because it's already detuned from auto as well as missing two full gears. I have shy'd away from these for one main reason. The computor operating system that does it's own cellular updating, and complaints from many they get "bricked out" of their trucks. (their words). The system may or may not have a good signal, contually and unsuccesfully tries to update untill the battery dies. Then the system needs and "easy peasy" reboot from a dealer. (TFL Off road has a video on that) I just have that over my head with all the remote places I travel solo. Even where I live with weak cell signal and over an hour to the nearest dealer. What is your experience with that?
I haven't had a single issue with the over the air firmware updates. That was an issue with early 2023 Colorados, this has already been fixed and patched as far as batteries draining.
I have the same truck and the same garage door opener, I found that it fits perfectly sitting vertically in the back of the phone charger cubby. Putting it there also seems to locate my phone perfectly on the wireless charger now whereas before it was hit or miss. I have that weird metric/imperial issue once or twice before as well. I recently got a notification about a multiple module reprogramming so I'm hoping that solves a lot of the little first year software bugs. I also noticed recently that AEV started selling the skid plates that come with the Bison package, it seems like you could put them to good use!
I'll have to try out the garage door opener at that spot. Good to hear someone else has had metric/imperial glitch. Those AEV skids plates are definitely on the radar and coming soon as the stock ZR2 ones have taken quite the beating. 😂
I too have had it happen on my 23' AT 4. I think it happened twice a few months ago but not since then. These software updates should be ota when new ones come out. It's a pain to have to go into the dealer. All of these trucks should be running the same update
@@ScottMathews-r7d check in the app under recalls to see if your truck is affected. I’ve had my truck nearly a year and I’m not sure I’ve ever received an OTA update. I would expect to receive OTA updates from then on out.
Can’t imagine how poor fuel economy would be running 3:73/4:10 gears on these trucks. No reason they shouldn’t be squeezing 25+ MPG outta these in factory form
On a turbo engine you should get better mileage with gearing if you lessen the engine load which in turn lessens the turbo boost where the gas is consumed. Canadain here and guy I know has a new ZR2 and converted from metric gets 27mp(us)g. About 33 per imp gallon. Try running in cruise in 7th gear.
Respectfully disagree with your statement. Turbos are a different beast to drive properly. Start from cold and let oil circulate for about a minute or two. Low boost for about 2-3miles, going up hills drive it as hard as you want to but over the top slowly ease out to cool the turbo, do not stop on hill and shut engine down - cool that turbo, same for highway driving at speed and pulling into gas station. Why do you think semi trucks do that? Its not just to piss people off! Clean oil and change earlier than factory recommendation. Turbos driven properly will last to rebuild of the engine. And optionally but recommended install a pyrometer PRE-TURBO and drive not above 1200F which means using the gears in the mountains. You will be surprised how hot you can get them by holding hills, in higher gears, which they will do with ease.
I just cut my exhaust back to the same point as the AFE one, then added a bolt on tip (although that wasn't needed). Got a little deeper tone too, since it reverberates off the ground more now (which was a bonus). If you're thinking about going with the AFE, I'd give the cut off a try first.
3.42 gears are ok for the 2WD models but Chevy should have at least put 3.73 gears in their dedicated off-road models ZR2 and ZR2 Bison. I have a 2018 Colorado ZR2 and although the truck has been a good truck and is very capable on and off-road my biggest gripe about the truck is the gears.
