Hello everyone and thanks for tuning in for the Man After Man audiobook!
    Just a few things:
    1. The audio quality may change slightly from section to section. That's because this thing was recorded in three different places with two different microphones (both the same make and model but somehow producing different results🤔)
    2. I say a couple of words incorrectly and differently from the text. For some reason my brain wont recognise the word "adaptation" and I instead say "adaption". There's a couple of others but nothing too crazy. I even say "catastropic" instead of "catastrophic" and "carbohybrate" instead of "carbohydrate", which aren't even words. I don't know why. But I apologise.
    3. Thank you again for watching! A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into making this, so I do hope you enjoy it.
    Take it easy!
    BtQ

@@BewareCast Amazing job, I’ve seen your posts about mispronouncing words on AT as well, you seem like a perfectionist… don’t worry about it.. these are AMAZING and you’re only human (I hope) and we all make small mistakes! If you were to focus on anything just continue to enjoy the art of talking (inflection, pace, timing, pauses, tonality)… again these are all amazing and messing up a single word isn’t a catastropic mistake :)

One thing I like about this in comparison to All Tomorrows is the fact that individual, third-person stories are given describing what it's like to be one of these people. A version of All Tomorrows like that would be worth an even prettier penny than it already is. Imagine viewing life from the perspective of, say, an Asteromorph having a hundred different thoughts at once, a Gravital seeing the world through digital cameras and processing it with a computerized brain, a Symbiote seeing and feeling differently depending on his host, or a Snake person smoking in a cozy hole.

I really love how Dougal Dixon doesn't just describe the various species and peoples that lived before us, but tells sories focusing on individuals and individual groups.
Makes for much more of a gripping and immersive experience. I wish history textbooks in school had the same approach, at least up until highschool. I bet it would make for many more children not seeing history as boring.

I gotta say, as much as the arrogance of the hiteks was off-putting, the segment about Hueh Choom where the book mentions that he fell for the girl because of the way she decorated her cradle made me feel bad for them. Sure they were an arrogant lot and considered the unafflicted humans as primitive and lesser, but something about the analogy of falling for someone for the way they looked and dressed being paralleled by the decoration of their cradle somehow humanized them for me.

A theory I have about the builders come across various worlds inhabited by wild human species quite often, as it’s mentioned that a lot of the interstellar colonies failed. Maybe that’s why they just completely wiped out the earth? Also why didn’t they colonize mars instead? They had terraforming technologies, so they totally could have.

The extinction of large animals is referenced multiple times and though it’s not gone over so explicitly it seems that there was a massive philosophical push for human engineering for things regular animals couldn’t do anyways like the aquatics for deuterium mining and space dwellers for engineering. And then by the time the Hiteks looked back on this for inspiration there definitely wasn’t any large animal embryos to use. The humans were engineered at this point specifically *because* they were human. They wanted humanity to live on in any way
