Yes sir, always get paid before you play. I've been a DJ for the past 30years down here in South Texas, only twice I've had bad checks bounced. Not good. Great set up!!
where i am bars don't want to pay till the end of the event just how Toledo IL and smaller towns are
thats why i get my money up front half as deposit the rest no later than the day before. i dont do any financial transactions the day of. i hear people say we dont pay until the work is done and i tell them yes you do at taco bell mcds burger king popeyes etc. if they cant pay i cant play. glad you got your money..
I have it in my contracts "If DJ is not able to complete his services as scheduled, the fee will be reduced at the rate of $100 per hour for each hour not completed by DJ. The DJ reserves the right to stop any performance when he believes a person(s) conduct may cause injury to someone or damage to his equipment. He may also stop the performance if weather or other circumstances are deemed hazardous to the operation of equipment.
However, there shall be no reduction in fee for early termination of services if (1) the DJ is threatened with bodily harm or the DJ’s equipment is damage by person(s) at the event, (2) Client shall terminate DJ’s services early, or (3) services are terminated early because of reasons outside of DJ’s control, such as a power outage, or weather. "
I always get paid before I play that is my number one rule! Always always always get your money at least a week before the event.
Like I said bars here where I live will not do that
@@DJFIRE2020 The one and only bar gig I did not get paid before hand tried the old "oh we got robbed last night so we dont have cash" trick. Then excuse after excuse as the night progressed until they finally gave in and paid me. That was the first and last time I have done many pub gigs and they always pay me a week in advance now. Not a problem at all. I think when you make them pay early they know you mean business and treat you with respect. So its not an area thing at all. Its just sorting out the rubbish el cheapo gigs from the good ones
Rain or not you should get paid & besides it's not your fault if nobody showed up, that's on their side for not doing a good job on promoting the event.

legally you have to get paid. Plus contracts help.
Get it in full up front 2 weeks to a month before.
bars and vfws wont do that here they pay at the end of the night
@@DJFIRE2020 Gotcha I do mostly weddings and corporate events, but it looks like Bars and clubs do things a bit different.
Next time get your money before you even start loading your equipment
Bars and legions normally don't do that around here until after the gig they just don't like paying before and it's just not me it's any DJ around here
