The cats are cute but the beautiful fabric is what makes them so special. My 4 year old granddaughter would love it. Can't wait for part 2. Thank you for all of your hard work making the videos and the patterns.
Tissue paper works great as a stabilizer as well. My mother was the plant manager for a garment manufacturer, during the 70's applique was ALL the rage and so they made loads of applique garments. Due to volume and cost, they used tissue paper and it was great. Tears away easy, it's cheap, it's not too hard on the needle. You'd think it was too fragile, but it is not fragile at all, and for one dollar per package, it's SO much cheaper than Pellon type products. Tear off most, if a little is left under the stitches, it's fine to leave it in the quilt. I have done this for years.
Thanks for your tutorials, love your style of teaching. I admire the way you have such great nail colour, almost matches the Kaffe boldness. Seriously I do appreciate your tips about notions. I would never have thought of using newsprint as stabilizer or glue instead of iron on fusing!
Thank You Donna! This would be the purrfict pattern for my daughter , she's allergic to cats. I liked seeing you have the same sewing g machine I have. It's a nice machine. I would also like to mention that I have several of your kits & quilts I've been working on. They are so nice!!! Thank you so much for all the work you , Matt, and your crew do .
I made a cat quilt very similar to this just minus the hearts 25 yrs ago for our Aunt Ellen who absolutely loved cats. She recently passed away so I got the quilt back - my, did it bring back memories
This is just fantastic...I've been wanting to do a cat quilt for my cat loving daughter for ages but haven't come across any pattern I have liked ....excitement plus ..I just love this pattern..thank so much ...can't wait for part 2 now..😘
Thank you for another great tutorial Donna, your explanations are always clear and detailed and the fabric choices....no words! just super ! (thank you Matt).
enjoying seeing another way to applique. I use newspaper (with the ink is not the best) for stabilizer since I always have it around. Interested to see you do too.
Also if you use double stick fusible web the paper you remove to expose the side you use to fuse to fabric makes very good stabilizer. I save it for this use
OMG! You are such a tease! Can't wait for part 2. I just know this is going to be the best quilt ever since I love cats so much and that fabric is yummy!
LOVE THIS DONNA! I just adopted a kitty, GeneralFlynn, a beautiful ragdoll. I adore KF fabrics, so I will make this quilt, and piece one of the cats to match my handsome Flynn!
Thanks Donna love cats I have 2 and this is an awesome tutorial and thanks for showing another way to cut out applique and for the free pattern...enjoy watching all your tutorials....
Just love the fabrics you used to make these lovely cats. I personally prefer dogs (much more sociable!) but my daughter and her girls are cataholics!! My daughter has7!! I will definitely make this up for the girls, maybe making them into cushions. Too hot where they live in tropical North Queensland. Also, love all the tips, especially with cutting, making that template, and use of different stabilisers, and the glue stick. You really are the best and can't wait to see the follow up video, thanks so much. From Australia😊
I love Kaffe's and Brandon's fabrics. This is a beautiful quilt. I have been looking for a lady with a dress that has really full skirt(think antebellum era) wearing a head wrap (or not) with hair (or not) pattern for applique. What would make her very beautiful is to have many different flesh tones fabrics for her face. We might have to use fabric paints to get her face the tone wanted. Maybe she could come in many sizes but I was hoping for a 12-14" lady pattern. I can't draw worth crap...maybe you could help :). Would love a video and kits too! Looking so forward to part 2 of this project. You are doing a wonderful job with filming. I love your camera person too! Get ready for the popularity explosion!
This is the first time that I've seen someone using the same machine that use! I love my singer Patchwork for piecing. But I also have to quilt on it, and let's just say, I don't love that so much lol. Thanks for the vid!
when using an applique stitch or blanket stitch I would definitely use a fusible under the cat so the edges don't fray, or turn them, but fraying can be cool too. stitch right inside the cat outline and let the quilt fray away. Heat n Bond II will prevent fraying and you don't have to sew on the applique. I prefer Wash Away Applique for appliques now. You can leave it in and it turns into soft fibers while leaving edges crisp and then you can use decorative stitches (sine wave, blanket stitch, applique stitch, etc. even a an open zig zag on the edge. I cut the cat from the WAA, then the fabric slightly larger-1/4", then use a glue stick (dollar store, please) to turn the edges under. a fun project while on the phone at work.) I thought you were going to satin stitch it and I have not had to use stabilizer, but it depends on the thickness of the fabrics and your machine. you might to use stabilizer tape or narrow pieces to save on stabilizer. you can also stuff that cat right before sewing it on for more of a 3D look.
you're welcome. a lot of cat lovers out there, so keep it up with the cat quilts. I have a lot of requests for them. And thank you for the videos. I really enjoy watching them and in this one you even talked about using a home machine. I love the industrial, but we're on the home machines. I might get one, now all my kids have left the nest.
Hi Charlene, try searching "Patchwork Pups" on the Fons & Porter channel - very cute. And as Sharon says kid's books, magazines and free clip art/vector shapes, all great sources of inspiration.
allergies are related to a vit d3 deficiency. get tested and supplement with d3 (not d2, it's slightly toxic). your levels should be 80 to 100. also, you might have better luck with a cat you own. just going around a strange cat once or twice a year, might only trigger sneezing for a day or two and then it subsides. good luck. lots of great cats need homes. shelters are overloaded with them
The pattern is in this Day's Blog from Jordon Fabrics (Feb 12, 2022). Scroll down to find the announcement about finding the pattern. OR Check in your Word, Insert, and look for Silhouette Cats. Scroll down and you will find one which is quite similar to the one in the Video.
hello, I made this when it was first shown and now my grandson has fallen in love with it. The down load of the cat template it no longer attached to you tutorial, would you be able to put it back, i would appreciate it if possible. Many thanks
Helpful Information: Visit your local newspaper, ask about getting "end rolls", blank newspaper. Sometimes these are free, or a small fee is necessary. This paper is great for foundation paper piecing, applique stabilizer, children drawing & coloring, etc. You will need to cut it to desired size, works great in printer. The end rolls are more paper than expected. Try this, it is wonderful to use.
Charlene Martin...A great source for any animal is coloring books! Look for some at the dollar store, they have some very basic books for very little kids to color and they make great appliqué patterns to trace.
Hello Donna, what a great use of the Kaffe Fauscet fabrics, I would like to do this as soon as I collect a few more of his prints. I was wondering where to find the Cat template? It is perfect for his fabrics. Thank you so very much.
Cara Donna, ho visto solo oggi 15 luglio 2020 il trucco per cucire bene il punto festone (così si chiama qui in Italia) senza che il tessuto si accartoccia! Grazie per il consiglio. Sei fantastica!
Hi Donna! It is 6 /20/ 22. I noticed this video is 8 / 24/ 17. If the link to download the cat pattern was on the video originally, it is no longer showing. I have noticed UA-cam has changed a lot of things lately. I looked in the free patterns also and did not see the cats. I do not have facebook. I was wondering if there is a place that I can still get the cat pattern. I love your videos. I have ordered a log cabin kit from you , but have not sewn it yet. Thank you for all of your tutorials. Your sewing tips are very helpful.
Love your tutorials and patterns. I do wish you'd tell us exactly what grunge colors you chose for this. I'm really bad at choosing fabric and would prefer to copy you!

Cereal boxes make good stencils too. I often get the big boxes from Costco for bigger stencils. I recently made large VW bugs out of them.
