I got rid of 95% of acne by eliminating dairy, gluten, egg yolk, honey , excessive sugary and deep fried foods out of my diet.
I have many cheat days which is ok because at least I feel like I am in control of my skin. Almost two decades of severe cystic acne were gone with this! I try to spread this message as much as possible.

Great tips!!! Here are some things that helped me, female with hormonal acne!!: I never had acne going through puberty, which I think was part luck/being eczema prone , and also I had an eating disorder which led me to consume very little sugar (also didnt have my period from age 15-17 from it so that obviously helps acne). (TIPS BELOW)
Once I recovered from my eating disorder (yay me!), I started getting cystic hormonal acne at age 18 primarily in the T-zone of my face All the topicals and antibiotics from my dermatologist sort of helped, but I would still get new pimples every month, often deep cystic ones that would take forever to heal. I had no idea how to deal with oily skin or acne!
Here is what has basically gotten rid of it besides 1-2 tiny pimples a month!!!:
1)Dr. Youn is right!!!! less sugar, less dairy, soda only when at restaurants, not in the house (I dont eliminate food groups or count anything bc of eating disorder history, but my history is evidence that less sugar is better!!)
    2) Use micellar water with a cotton pad to remove makeup remnants after using a makeup wipe. you will be shocked by what is left on your face!!! Mild salicylic acid cleanser a few times a week too.
    3) when I start sensing my skin is more oily, generally 10 days before my period up until my period, I *proactively* start alternating Clyndamycn wipes and mild benzol peroxide cream nightly.
    4) water wipe or clindamycin wipe after being in dirty environment or exercise if cant shower
    5) Cetaphil gentle daily exfoliator about 4 days a week in the shower
    6) NO EYEBROW WAXING WITHIN 2 WEEKS BEFORE MY PERIOD. TRY TO ONLY WAX WHEN ON PERIOD. This is because estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are at their lowest levels on your period. I realized eyebrow waxing made my acne worse, so I now NEVER do it between ovulation and my period (when progesterone increases and oil production is highest, thus most acne prone). Since you normally wax eyebrows every 4 weeks, this is easy to plan for!
Hope these tips help at least one girl out there!

Ellie McCarthy i use clindamicyn too. I wash my face with Cataphil 2x daily. I do not drink soda or Dairy.
For years I went to Derm and they gave me every acne medicine you can think of. I even went in Accutane ( which is bad for the body ) . All those meds were only temporary solutions. Not one doctor told me to cut out dairy. I did on my own and that’s when my cystic hormonal acne cleared up. Now I only go 1x per year to my Derm.

I won the evolutionary jackpot. I just turned 40 and I literally have pimples in my forehead wrinkle. I don’t complain, because of my oily skin-I have aged very well. I also love facial oils which sounded kinda crazy, but made the most difference for my skin-of anything. I also double cleanse with an oil cleanser to breakdown makeup and then a gentle cleanser (cedaphil) . I use a Korean oil cleanser made rice oil but it’s lightweight. I use a aha, bha toner every 3rd day, and a clay mask around high risk hormonal times. I also have PCOS.

@@normakarina5123 I'm not the doctor, but I can tell you that applying straight tea tree oil to skin is a very bad idea! It's very irritating, so it would have to be buffered with a base oil. However, there are some very good skincare products out there with tea tree oil in them (many that that are also organic, natural and gentle). But you do not need to use an entire line with tea tree oil for it to be effective in treating acne topically, just one or two is fine if everything is in balance. First, I would still say to do the recommendations by Dr. Youn in this video. Like using a good oil based cleanser (I do a double cleanse: I use DHC Deep Cleansing Oil made from virgin olive oil from Japan; followed by a foaming cleanser, and occasionally a toner that's not too astringent. And moisturize!
