Turbo 4 cylinder in a large heavy vehicle that reminds me of something…oh yes the twin turbo v6 in the Tundra 🤦♂️. Sure hope this works out for those who purchase at MSRP let alone those who purchase at a large dealer markup!

Agree. Not to mention dealers are gonna markup 5-10k. I’d buy it for 45k. Paying BMW X5 prices for manual cloth seats and a Tacoma engine is wild. Also there are third row cup holders but no seats?? Wtf.

A $10,000 surcharge or market adjustment fee? That's ridiculous! The sad reality is that there may very well be someone who will pay this crazy price for something that starts depreciating shortly after it leaves the dealership lot. Why anyone would even consider doing this is beyond the pale.

It does. Anyone who buys this instead of a more capable reliable rig like a jeep is insane. This thing will be in the shop on a regular basis while a jeep lasts for generations.

Americans are done with batteries. I bet they only sell 3 in the US which is very sad because it’s beautiful. Nobody can afford the green new deal or EU standards where cars are forced to have massive batteries that cost 20,000$ to replace only after 50,000 miles. Yes the battery will still work at 50K miles with only 60% of its original capacity. Meaning you drastically loose horse power early in its life. Its trade in value will also plummet. This Toyota will not live to 200,000 miles like previous

1958 edition, but with a hybrid motor. Doesn’t make sense. It should have a naturally aspirated small block V-8. That I would buy.
Sadly, V8's, even V6's for the most part, are history. Time will tell how the turbo-4's fare. For a price one can still get a V6, albeit twin turbo, in the sibling GX550. However, would not risk it, considering Toyota's present nightmare with the Tundra V6.
Jeff, With your pull at Toyota World HQ, do you think you can get us 1958 Edition Land Cruisers with two-tone Paint? 🤔 As this 1958 comes from the same Hamura plant that built the legendary T100 pickup and FJ Cruiser, I see no reason why two-tone paint should be an obstacle. 😉😉 Savannah, If you can capture Jeff's antics with a camera, the sky is the limit for your cinematic skills . 🤩🤩

I can understand the lack of color choices and creature comforts with a "base trim", howerver would it be too much to ask for the option to add the sway bar disconnect and forward facing camera with the 1958 trim? - It seems like Toyota baits you into the higher trim packages to get this along with other features many would just assume do without.

Test drove a 58’ edition a few days ago, any one that doubts the refresh with new powertrain clearly hasn’t driven it or an older V8 type to tell the difference. It’s very impressive. A base 58’ with a rear locker optioned and all terrains and you’re good to go.

Turbo charged four cylinder hybrid sorry never? Toyota with their turbo V6 problems show Toyota isn’t any better at building turbocharged engines than anyone else. Toyota lost a truck/SUV sale here. I have decided on a Nissan or Honda V6.

Southeast Toyota Distributers have WAY too much latitude regarding port add-ons! We typically do not see this here in the western U.S.
They are scummy, blood sucking slim balls. I'd NEVER pay for all of that extra crap only there to bend the customer over. We need more customers to take a stand, refuse to pay for that garbage, and walk-out of the STEALERSHIP.

Such a cool truck. It's a shame that every 1958 I've seen hitting lots here in the south has all those cash-grab extras added in. The whole marketing point of this trim was that it was under 60k! Looking forward to order a custom build on a future model year, but hey the guys that want them right now will surely pay for the extras.
Refuse to pay it, and walk out. If everyone would refuse to pay it, they would remove it. But no, the consumers are IDIOTS, and only look at monthly payments. I personally would never pay it. I'm in the market for a 25 Camry XLE, and have walked out of EVERY STEALERSHIP so far. I REFUSE to pay anything other than MSRP plus sales tax, and tag.
That high load floor in back is a huge negative, c'mon Toyota !!!

Does it feel underpowered at all with that 4-cyl turbo? It looks heavy and I'm kinda bummed that only the Lexus GX is getting the 6-cyl (which itself seems too precious for offroading).
I have the FE. The engine is wonderful from a power standpoint. Does take time to get used to the noise coming from the 4-cylinder and also the dynamics vs 5.7 of the 200 series. I turned off the fake engine noise piped into the cabin, does wonders for your sanity. I'm not getting anywhere the stated Mileage. I'm at 17.1. It is well built and true to the land cruiser heritage.
How far forward does the front passenger seat fold / slide? Are those wheels different than the stock wheels on the 1958? White is still the best color for the 58 trim.
I do wish this had part-time AWD so you can have a 2wd mode. Love the retro styled design.
Here in ice/snow country the full-time 4WD is a necessity. Now, if Toyota could make it 2WD/4WD and include the Torsen center differential, one could have the best of all worlds.

Dear Toyota, if you are watching this, South East Toyota is playing games with all of the 1958 LC in this entire region. I looked at one and drove it the other day in FL. The same dealer add on tires, running boards and all weather mats as this one in TJ s video. 4000 in dealer add ons! And a fake msrp that is inflated by 3k. Toyota is blowing it hugely with these. The purpose of the 1958 BASE model was to get the " cheap " edition in the hands of people crazy enough to spend 57k plus tax ( = over 60k ) on a cloth seat, no sunroof, no power seats, 4 cylinder with the infotainment not as good as cars half its price. STOP putting basic bit@% dealer " add ons " to push them so much higher. PS. The one i looked at in drove still sits there after two weeks.

The new landcruiser should have received a NA v6 mated to 8sp trans. GX 550 gets the B58 turbo (BMW inline 6) already in the Supra/Grenadier same 8sp tranny. Morons are running things at Toyota these days. Akio, give me a shout when you’re done with the current leadership. I’ll clean things up in less than 12 months and get Toyota back on top right quick like.

Where do you see in this video that this one is $66k? NOWHERE lol. This one has some upgrades and this specific one was listed at $62k. Just buy your specific one without the upgraded regional port options and you'll be fine. Every single vehicle sold will have no regional options, some, or a lot. It's up to you to get the options and add-ons you want or don't want. And it's not that I'm only focusing on lighting. I've done probably more UA-cam videos on 2024 Land Cruiser than anybody else in the whole world haha. This is just one of them that focuses on one specific portion because I know other people will want to know this. Thanks for watching! Jeff

We all want to pay top dollar for 1958 with no options…and noisy on the road….and a 4 cylinder engine…it’s over for Toyota…I guess I’m on my last 4 runner

I turned off the fake engine noise piped into the cabin. I'd say it is quiet except when u lay down on the throttle.

Thanks for the review. I had read some others who didn't like the 1958 because of the seat materials, hard plastics in the interior, and the smaller screen. It sounds like you didn't think they were that bad(?)
I can only really afford the 1958. I thought it would be bare bones (based on reviews I read) but glad it still comes with the locking differentials. Sounds like it has the basic necessities and you don't need the higher trims for off roading.
Why did they put this goofy hybrid motor that literally nobody was asking for? Besides, it’s just a Prado counterpart, not a full on legit Landcruiser…sheesh
More power than the old V6 and 4.6L V8 that's why... and about the same mpgs

Jeff, is the Meteor Shower too gold? So hard to tell. So anything they didn’t making this a more obvious shade of silver.
Can you do a short of the Ice Cap next to Meteor Shower-in the shade.
I don't like the Meteor Shower for that reason. It looks too gold/tan in many lights scenarios. Underground is a gray color, however, is a flat gray and in some lights, takes on a blueish tint.
Those silly boy-racer looking colors (Traildust and the Blue) are way too immature looking for an $85k vehicle.
Black or white appear to be the best choices in colors.

I guess I've bought my last new toyota. I refuse to drive a hybrid or ev. Theres plenty of used naturally aspirated gas burners out there to last me for another 20 or so years.

You can remove that tow hitch cover by removing a couple tabs and you're good to go..then you'll have the "hidden" hitch showing :)
It is marked up by $14K here in Cali, and they want $91K for it.
