Nico dragas work is amazing. I totally fell in love at first sight with his work in TheManko's UA-cam channel. Great to see you guys are partners! Good luck!
I love this, Hera, I am a teacher and gotta tell you that this is great content. You explain really well and I am really learning with this. I love the 15 videos that you did explaining and every time you check your own games and explain what you did wrong etc. I would love more of these, this is like spirit of the law but practical, which is what we needed. Well done.
Awesome video. I usually struggle to keep producing scouts so this video was really helpful. Also it’s really cool you respond to people’s comments, keep it up.
Awesome tutorial. Trying to become more efficient at AoE2 can be stressful xD and this was very helpful. Great job Hera and Nko! Looking forward to more!
I think this might be the most educating guide I have seen on youtube, well done! Really expect to see a M@A Archers BO up to Castle Age cuz that one tends to be a bit confusing.
It’s amazing how 1 villager can make the difference in a build order, I was always one vil short on wood and it would slow down my stable whenever I built walls.
Top tier video; great stuff! Question though: why make a lumber camp at the end of feudal if only one vill is going to use it? I would have thought to either drop a second lumber camp with a few vills to spread them out, or to just send all vills to the same lumbercamp to start and build second camp later (so all vills get chopping immediately). Is this more efficient, since only one vill has to build and have the walking time to the new camp while all other vills continue gathering wood?
Old Aoe player used to be top player in DM in Aok. I dabbled I’m RM was about a 1400-1600 ELO player on zone and voobly. Started playing again on Xbox for fun and got sucked in. Currently top 100 on controller. It took a lot to get used to but with experience I’ve run over everyone I’ve played. 21-0 currently and loving it. Probably start playing on PC again to climb the ladder there. Thx for the tips I’ve won a lot of games with scout rush.
Would’ve like to see the actual rush as well. Specifically, you say to attack immediately while I usually wait for 3-5 scouts and use those to attack in group. I’d have like to see how much better your approach is an if my microing can handle it (I assume spearman will come chasing the scouts)
Thx Hera - hope this will rush me out of lel. Still struggling to find the perfect boar timing. keep the good work up - and congrats on winning tournaments lately :)
Thanks for the tutorial, Hera! What do you think about the deer in that buildorder? Is it worth to push it with the scout early, or is it more important to scout? I tend to go low on food when I do scout rushes, so hunting deer might be useful?
What do you mean by going low on food? Its quite tight build order but you should be able to keep producing scouts non stop. Deer certainly helps, faster Castle time or quicker Upgrades on scouts, quicker Transition to ranges, but id prioritize scouting. At least find your starting resources. (It depends as always, but generally id say scout your base first) If your quick at scouting you can push deer and still scout your enemy in time. But dont over do the luring. Btw if you have trouble with food and cant keep making scouts, maybe skip horse collar. Biggest mistake is idle time. Try to optimize your boar timings and kill them right under the tc. If not timed perfectly better kill another sheep. Its better to waste some food than to have idle time.
For me it depends on what my opponent may do: if your opponent is going archers, I’d say scout them first so you can slow down their snowball by slowing down their wall off. If your opponent is going scouts you can push deer to get to upgrades quicker. But if your mongols I would suggest pushing your deer whenever you can to make use of their bonus.
Personally i wouldnt recommend luring deer till ur at least a top 100 player. Learn to scout and execute the build how it is. Luring deer will rarely win u the game, but scouting ur enemy's exposed ressources might!
This is so beautiful, my inner child shed a tear ;) I always wondered if it was okay to put 5 vills on berries to have a smoother transition from wood to food when your sheeps run out. Is that possible or is the loss in efficiency caused by the bumping on the berries too big? Keep up the brilliant work, honestly I can`t word how freaking amazing this video is!
I wouldnt recommend 5 on berries unless you were lamed. Its actually best to keep as few on berries as possible to have them last longer. Just preamptively build farms with the foragers so they dont idle and you have a really smooth and constant food gathering. So gradually put foragers on farms. I know ive done a good job when i clicked up to Castle and still have one forager. If you do this you gonna be quicker to Castle age and need fewer farms to do so. What i often see is ppl having way too many farms because of not doing this and adding farms too slowly. Too many vills on farms leads to an unbalanced eco fyi.
@@ashmonkey2572 Thanks for your answer. But why would you take them away from berries before they run out? Don`t you want to use your free food source to delay the wood investement for farms? I`m not sure if the gathering rate for farms is so much higher that you`ll see a noticeable difference. The number of farmers in late feudal should be dependent to your transition in caslte age.
@@ashmonkey2572 For example Im fan of 5 on berries. The reason why is when your opponent plays aggresive and put preassure on your base and f.e. opponent builds a tower on your berries you gathered more food because of that 1 extra vill. It depends on a lot of things but for me I feel like 5 on berries usually pays off and when I know my opponent wont preassure me early I build early farms with them to keep the berries longer.
@@ageofnumbersyt8557 i think you misunderstood me you leave villagers on berries but remove them more and more and put them on farms as the berries are starting to run out. In the end you will have only one berry bush left and one villager on it. So you are using the free food but keep reducing vills to keep gathering efficient. Note that berries dont decay. Its a cleaner transition into farms as you have villagers constantly on food. If you dont do this you will have 4 idle villagers when the berries are finished. The amount of farmers usually is the same when you click up to castle. Wether it be scouts or archers youll end up with about 17 farms when you click up. With scouts you add farms earlier thats why you dont need more farms than if you go archers. After you clicked up to castle you set up your economy again as you dont need as many farms for xbows for example. Its the same you do after you click up to feudal. You put the vills on the res you need. Its just that you needed lots of food to click up. Remember it and watch the pros do it, especially Hera.
@@skullthronecz9723 its situational yes. But if you scout rush you want to prevent a tower on your berries because its so important. Without the berries making more scouts is hard. You can put 5 on berries, you can do whatever you want, but note that berries is slower than sheep or boar and that you wont see top players put more than 4 on berries.
I like the tutorial, but the thing is, how you do this and walling at same time? Which time ia perfet for start walling? And how to go after that to reach next age.
great combination of explanation and overaly. what would really interest me is: what is the advantage of a Scout opening over a Drush, MAA or Archer opening? (you will probably do the other ones as weel I assume)
Map control through mobility and scouting info. Id say the latter is biggest advantage of scouts. You can dictate the fights, where and when they will happen. But caution scouts are shit against walls. So dont over do them. If enemy is walled stop scout production.
Your mobility also makes it easier to surprise your enemy, and unlike archers scouts don’t need upgrades to be useful in castle age since they are perfectly fine at sniping monks. Scouts also transition well in knights, camels or mounted archers (since you need a stable to upgrade them.)
I amazed by the efficiency here. Love this style of video by the way! Is it worth it to get Forging/Bloodlines whilst you attack, and which one would you say is more effective for a Scout rush?
Id recommend attacking way before that. However if u have alot of scouts(6+) id say pick up bloodlikes or armor. U can pick up both if u plan to continue making scouts instead of going castle age, which is a very valid strategy btw
