Hera man, I have to blame you for increasing the level of competition at my level. Every time I miss out on one of your videos, I fall behind. There is just no way of stopping to watch your content. On a more serious note: Thanks for all your great content and hard work!!!
Love these kinds of videos. Deep thinking on stages of the game and mindset when approaching the next step are things not enough of us are considering or discussing.
this is one of your most helpful short guides, some of these tips were turning points for me getting from 900 to 1000 and 1100 elo, wish you had put this out sooner 11
Awesome video. I bounce between 950-1100 elo and post feudal indecision is a major reason why. Also shout out to the editor of these scripted videos. Always a treat.
Actually, we don't have "Perfect Feudal Age" or a "Guide to Feudal Age" on the channel, just as there are such videos (at least two new ones) for Dark Age 🧐
One thing is missing in my opinion. If you have the situation of your and your enemy castle competing over an important part of the map, it is most of the times a good joice to click up to imp very fast so that you can treb the enemy castle down before he can make trebuchets.
Great guide, this is the thing I struggle with the most I find my brain just doesn't keep up with everything you can do in Castle Age so usually I end up potato with 2000 wood in the bank
I guess the "figuring out" can/should already be done before even reaching castle age. In castle age the first thing to do (usually after the eco upgrades) is then to actually implement it (build the needed buildings and/or get the needed upgrades, or build more town centers).
1:20-Pick up any Economy Upgrades ASAP as it will scale on your current villagers and more villagers later 2:00-Figure Army Composition for Castle Age 3:00-Choose Utility(Support for military through different types of units or techs)or Economy (Focus on Booming ) depends on play style or civ matchup.Choose Economy if you want to go for Imperial or late game and Choose Utility if you want to maximize your Powerspike 9:00-Faster Imp or Prolonged Castle Age Advantages of Fast Imperial: 1)Better Units and Techs Advantages of Prolonged Castle Age: 1)More Units (as you don't have to spend on upgrading like Imp Age or techs) 2)More Map Control and Greater number of villagers so better economy to support units later General Rule: If you are cavalry civ and you have low map control then prolong Castle age as knights are expensive and you need something to claim map control If you are archer civ and then you might go to imp because of crucial techs like bracers, arblasts etc.. and if you good map control
im actually so scared of 1v1's. got to 1100 elo (from 900) on 3v3/4v4 team games and been doing pretty good but havent dared to play a single 1v1 game yet. still, your vids help so much dude, was missing a lot of fundamentals
You should do it! I just did the other day and dominated. Honestly, as long as you know your hot keys and build orders, you should be fine. AOE isn't about winning or losing, anyway. It's about having fun.
I've always thought imp was probably better for the techs and "free" upgrades. Now if I can only apply this, 11. Thanks for the great video, super informative!
Nice video, your content has been really good and useful. Personally, looking at my stats, if the game goes beyond 60 mins, my win rate drops to 45percent. So, I am actually struggling with imperial age. I end up getting surprised by the composition of the enemy and rethinking my army then puts you in a losing position. Imperial age basics would be a great video. Other ideas, I struggle hard in arena, all in janissaries, I die all the time. Dealing with this would also be a cool video. Thanks hera, good luck in KoD sir 😊
An interesting video would be "what to do when playing 1vs1 against a civ which hard counters your main advantage?". For example, a cavalry civ versus a strong camel civ, or an archer civ against a civ which is really good against archers.
Excellent video. Just a suggestion, most strategies based on unique units need very different meta like going castle age Mamelukes or cataphracts (expensive on gold) . Any help on that would be great :)
Ah yes, this is the part that prevents me from trying ranked. The options in Castle Age make me easily end up idling especially on villager production.
Play ranked! The whole point of ranked games is that you’re matched against players who’s skill is close to yours. It’s easier to find fair ranked games than custom games where players arbitrarily describe their skill.
Indeed, it makes no sense to never play ranked. If you don't play ranked then that would mean you care about your ELO, but if you care about your ELO you should play ranked. The truth is that you don't care for your ELO, so you can just play ranked for fun, and that gives you the best game experience because your opponents are picked for you specifically, and matches are found quickly too.
A question I have never seen answered is "How many villagers is enough villagers?" Assuming a 200 pop cap at what point do you stop making more villagers or how many do you try to keep (making new when some get killed in raids, for example)?
To set up a control group, you do Ctrl + a number. For example Ctrl + 2. Then to jump to the group you press that number twice. For example 2 2. You can also do 2 + space. And you can change these if you want, these are just the default hotkeys. :)
Hera, I went into adult age an I noticed I'm spending all my sleep rez on aoe2, I made one vil so far it's not giving me rez but taking constant rez mainly sleep and food....going into the dad age early was the bad play for sure
If you're Spanish you only ever go conqs into castle drop. Then you throw a fit when the opponent expects it because that's all anyone does at your ELO and he destroys your entire army and all your drop villagers without spending a drop of gold. Bonus points for calling him a crappy player or stupid before you rage quit.
Is there a good way to practice just one age at a time? Obviously Dark Age vs. AI, but what about the other three? I feel like I have Dark Age down okay, start to get sloppy in Feudal, and then fall apart from Castle on. I’d really benefit from a Feudal start for drilling that part of a build order, but I don’t know how well Empire Wars would carry over. Even if that is the way to drill Feudal, is there a way to drill Castle/Imperial Age other than one full game at a time?
Imagine where society would be if we had a Hera tutorial for EVERYTHING in life? Like "What To Do After You wake up?" Wed be all the perfect organised and optimised beings. And still suck at aoe micro, unlike Hera. :(
can you make Indonesian subtitles please ? I really appreciate that because I don't really understand what is being said when you use English even though there are already English subtitles😅,sorry if it's very troublesome😅.
This is great but it assumes so much that is not true of my 900 ELO ass that I'm not even sure how to apply it 😅 all this about investing in this or that and I'm thinking "you aren't floating several hundred wood and desperately short on something else?"
Make castle, do nothing for 20 minutes. This video is pretty much an explanation for why most people don't really get into AOE2. Or AOE4 for that matter.
Why should I trust you? Ill continue making hun longswords after feudal age
This comments get better and better
11 you wont stand a chance against my spanish archers

This is really helpful in terms of tying together scouting information into overall strategy
Thanks Hera for all the amazing content, and congrats on your recent win in the nations cup!
Me trying to convince my friends to play Age: "The game is not THAT hard to learn"
The game:
11
Smallhead. I'm down to play. Never played against someone. hit me up -Tommy
It’s easy to learn, but hard to master.
@@DefekacjaOdbyta where do you see all the unit bonuses?
@@DefekacjaOdbyta only if "easy to learn" means it's easy to jump in a game and click randomly having no idea what is going on lmao.
Thanks for making these videos Hera. We appreciate you 😊
crazy amount of value here. This one and "Castle Age Mistakes" video. thnkyou.
Hey this is absolutely the kind of content I crave and can't get anywhere.
These videos are so good, thanks a lot for the insights!
Concise and informative. Thanks for the vid.
Love the quality production on this video. Great pointers man thanks.
You're a great teacher man thanks for the help
"rss will start to pile up, you can't spend these rss on NON-SENSE"
my long-sword heart felt pain and humiliation after that sentence

Feudal guide+! Yes please!

This strategy was briefly mentioned in the video.

So true
1:20-Pick up any Economy Upgrades ASAP as it will scale on your current villagers and more villagers later
2:00-Figure Army Composition for Castle Age
3:00-Choose Utility(Support for military through different types of units or techs)or Economy (Focus on Booming ) depends on play style or civ matchup.Choose Economy if you want to go for Imperial or late game and Choose Utility if you want to maximize your Powerspike
9:00-Faster Imp or Prolonged Castle Age
Advantages of Fast Imperial:
1)Better Units and Techs
Advantages of Prolonged Castle Age:
1)More Units (as you don't have to spend on upgrading like Imp Age or techs)
2)More Map Control and Greater number of villagers so better economy to support units later
General Rule:
If you are cavalry civ and you have low map control then prolong Castle age as knights are expensive and you need something to claim map control
If you are archer civ and then you might go to imp because of crucial techs like bracers, arblasts etc.. and if you good map control
Yesss this is the content we need! Give us more!
Quality content 👏👏
I really needed to hear this.
Good tutorial! Thanks, Hera!
no problem!
You post a video just the day this exact question crosses my mind
Great video and tips! Thanks

Panic and mess up your strategy by not focusing on either aggression or economy. Did I get it right? 😂
Yep hahaha the usual
Also remember to build 3 TCs, get houses and forget to produce vills!
This is me, especially when water is involved. I always forget docks exist
Cannot believe you did steppe lancers this dirty. Did not even get a mention, wow.
Fantastic
I would argue that reading the gamestate in feudal is harder than castle age
Excellent video. Just a suggestion, most strategies based on unique units need very different meta like going castle age Mamelukes or cataphracts (expensive on gold) . Any help on that would be great :)
always FIRE!!
1k here we go!
that is an easy question
after feudal you go castle

Knights Knights Knights, how many Knights? Yes KNIGHTS!!!!
Could you make a video on tips for playing 2v1s or 3v1s? vs lower ranked players as an archer player?
👍🏻

140 is usually more than enough. Then you can delete them if you need more army
How can I group a forwarding push of cavalry, and then jump to them through a shortcut?
To set up a control group, you do Ctrl + a number. For example Ctrl + 2. Then to jump to the group you press that number twice. For example 2 2. You can also do 2 + space. And you can change these if you want, these are just the default hotkeys. :)

What is that overlay at 0:39?
Spam Arambai into Manipur Cavalry and infantry with extra attack
If I don't close the game in VERY early castle age I'm done. To the point I just stopped playing. Thank you for this video 💚

im still struggeling with what to do once i clicked up to imperial. is there any advise on that?
