Man, and here I was, playing AoE2 for the longest time and neatly putting similar buildings together, like some kind of shopping aisle lol. Thanks for the pointers!
Franks are the best civ for begginers by far. When you get tired of knight, then you try other ones. Archer civs are pretty fun, but a bit harder to play.
Liking the cute icon! This vid helped me pay attention to where I build houses, resource buildings, and other amenities whilst slowly enjoy the game by doing a bit of city planning and WHY ARE THERE ARMOURED ELEPHANTS IN MY BASE!!!???
Im just getting back into the game, been watching the Roadto2k series and here we are. Amazing timing! Thanks for taking the time to break this beautiful game to all us noobs.
It's crazy that the best player in the world just drops gold like this to us mortals . Just starting out, but I'm already pumped and already starting to improve a bit, thanks Hera!
thank you hera i just got the game last week and really trying to get better. can currently beat the hard bot 70% of the time and hopefully this will push that a little further!
I've played ~20-30ish team games at like 900 elo (lol), so videos like this are insanely helpful. I've definitely not been constructing a proper base. So much to learn and so many good tips throughout the entire video. Thank you!
I like a nice cosy base in an RTS. The Egyptian base in Age of Mythology is so cosy and snug 😊 i mostly just play age of empires 3, i play a lot of dutch and they like to make a nice cosy base; banks in front, some houses, a bug chunky market, some walls and gates to protect my skirms from cavalry 🎉🎉🎉
this seems like it'd be a super useful video if I was ever able to get completely walled before the enemy units come strolling in. guess I need to watch more Hera guides
Sounds great, congrats on improvement, maybe you covered one of your weaknesses, or maybe this stuff is that important (I am guessing second as these things usually make your life much easier, give you time to focus on other things).
„Nobody ever talks about this“. Survivalist also has great content about base building an walling. 😉 Thanks for your content! The thought process of pros is always really interesting for 1k1 plebs like me.
great video about strategy but what the beginners and this video are missing is muscle memory+shortcuts+micromanagement like luring, queuing work and that makes you do things 5 times faster. I, for example, am clicking each building/worker and selecting what I need on its menu
Thank you for the video Hera, will try to incorporate this mindset in my games from now on. I range from 1200 to 1350 elo and I can confirm that I mostly only think about getting in all 3 deers and having no idle tc. The first 4 houses, barrack and stable/range are never built in proper spots.
Nice video, thanks for sharing. How about TC position on castle age? Where best spots to build? Inside walls, in a good woodline? Near 2nd gold resource, even if it’s forward or outside walls? Keep them coming 👌
I am 1200 elo and I usually wall even earlier and with more vills to be safe from militia rushes and very early scout rushes. Obviously, it always hurts my economy. The thing is that it's still hard for me to keep all vills busy when I am under pressure.
Easiest part of the game is dark age I am a beginner I know. Most UA-camrs do beginner videos on dark age we need help on feudal and castle. Can’t find any help on those that aren’t years old. The walls was helpful tho
Love your videos man. I kept wondering throughout though if it would have been the same or perhaps less tiles of walling to go straight down to the edge of the map?? That is, the barracks wall section. If it’s not to do with tile numbers did you prefer your way as it’s less area to defend? Thanks!
im gonna make sure i follow this until i forgot house at 15+20 pop and have a vill gonna die from a boar or a deer refuse to behave, typical day from my 1k elo game. Then process to messy base like usual with 2 panic house near my wood
I am only 900 elo, however I have to say ppl even at this elo who make feudal age army have a plan to break through palisade walls. I have walled but it always seems like a waste when my walls get broken into. They will add a tower or archers/skirms with a melee unit to prevent reinforcing the wall. I have given up on walling tbh and just try to play super aggressive in feudal maybe adding a tower to protect wood and gold for archers. not sure where going wrong but just seems walls are made to be broken into.
the problem with many videos of this kind is that the person doing the tutorial does not slow down and plays as if he was playing a freakin tournament, causing the new players to get overwhelmed and think they will never have the skill to play online.
Great video! I needed this. One question: How do you incorporate it if you want to hide your military buildings? For example, as Poles here, but you want to go archers. So you hide the Archery Range from the opponent's scout?
from what I've seen, it's usually not worth trying to hide your first military building - the wall comes first. After that, though, if you wanted to do a switch to archers, for example, just hide the range(s) a few tiles behind your completed walls so that their scout can't see them.
This video was OK. I feel like you’re still not explaining enough about your thought process. Things like leaving a little space behind the wall so you can quick wall behind. Things like how big should your walls be and how many vils should you use to wall. When to do normal walls versus small walls versus egg walls. I think you could’ve gone more in depth here. It may be useful to show multiple game examples with different scenarios for different walling conditions.
So I've been playing this for years and something I still struggle with on woodline is whether to commit to 2 or 3 vils on wood (I normally go woth a light scout rush into knights). Would it be more worth it to go 3 on wood for scouts if you want to wall? Or should you small wall and delay full walling in exchange for the scout rush?
I am just not 100% sure about production buildings all in front of the base. At least for the stable, I prefer to put it behind. That's because scouts are fast and it does not change much in terms of time to reach the enemy base, but putting it behind gives the advantage that one can hide the stable for a longer time and prevent or delay enemy spearmen. Could this be a valid reason?
@@juansiboldi6151 I am absolutely not questioning his formula (why people always think that asking a question or having a doubt means going against someone....?) but at his level the opponent will most likely find any building and know what one is doing from the timing, score, eco, etc., so there is no point in trying to hide. I am just not 100% sure that, at my level (1050-1100), every suggestion applies blindly, because I know that map scouting is not excellent at my level and a building in the backside of the base can go unnoticed. I followed many of his suggestions also changing my habits, but for this one I am still not sure. If anyone can give me reasons, I will consider that.
Hey Hera is the mouse for playing this game important? I mean you click with so much precision. I even after 1000 games cant do it nearly as precise and I have some inexpensive one.
Question. been playing this game since original release. today decided to jump on ranked 4v4. not doing the best but trying to learn a different playstyle as opposed to playing against AI. A lot of the matches my teammates have been pretty toxic in chat towards me and then resigning. i feel like this is hurting me learn how to play online against others. any idea how to handle this? like now i dont even want to go back online and just want to go back against AI
By beginners you certainly mean low elo players, so those guys who... place farms nicely... have always perfect house placement... legend of DarkElf... um... um...
Is there a way to have a lesson with you? My Discord and Twitch are being funky, so I haven't been able to get ahold of ya through that or Twitch. I am trying to get better so that I can perform better with my RF compadres 11
No way we have hera whitout beard before gta 6
"Ive never seen this man before in my life"
Kudos to the video, there's not a lot of VERY beginner guides for elo 2 like myself
Hey i am elo zero. Teach me
@@rockgamiasedes677 good luck with that, I don't even have the matches played to be 0 elo
i am playing bots and getting destroyed 😂
Man, and here I was, playing AoE2 for the longest time and neatly putting similar buildings together, like some kind of shopping aisle lol. Thanks for the pointers!
Just started this game yesterday! Lmao I'm so lost but then I found your channel! Gonna rock with the franks till I understand the game more!
welcome bro!!
welcome!
Tip: try out Persians and/or Lithuanians as well. They are a bit more forgiving in dark age and have as clear a game plan as Franks have.
Franks are the best civ for begginers by far. When you get tired of knight, then you try other ones. Archer civs are pretty fun, but a bit harder to play.
This and videos like “your first 10 vils” helped me a lot when I picked the game up

Would love a video discussing walling castle and imp, when it is needed how to decide tc locations in and out of walls etc
I played the original game. Then couple years ago got the de. Not that good but slowly trying to get better. Hera's videos has helped me
thank you hera i just got the game last week and really trying to get better. can currently beat the hard bot 70% of the time and hopefully this will push that a little further!

in the wall, part of the wall, in the wall, part of the wall, in the wall, part of the wall.
Become one with the wall, there is only THE WALL.
Man competitive play is just too stressful.
Beautiful and very informative video for beginners, from someone who struggles to wall all the time(750 elo)

Trying to relearn the game after like 15 years, You move so fast, for a beginner video, its hard to keep up.
Played game like 8 times so deffo a beginner you are 100% right

The "too long, didn't watch" of this is that Hera's younger, beardless brother says to start with the "Marco" "Polo" cheats.

Try Survivalist's video on walling your base, it has a very nice production level and it digs a little more on that
and then please publish a thesis to obtain a doctorate degree
Could you please do a (/an updated) video of Your Mods ? @Hera
And also: "Tech Tree Insights" - please!
I swear to god, i think about it every game. Im at roundabout 1100 elo. But i suck horribly in executing it. I dont know why😂😂😂
What is your Mod for the Main Menu? Looks very nice! :)
Is there a video where you explain how you switch to different views throughout the map really fast?
很喜歡這樣的視頻,謝謝你!
Thanks for the tips! 1 tip back, say 15 minutes instead of minute 15. I thought you meant to full wall in 1min,15sec. Cheers!
super helpful
Id of walled the gold an maybe towered it with that hill bonus but 🤷♂️
That costs resources
Anyone else use the mill as part of their wall? Shaved Hera looks a lot more professional btw.
i try not to in case the bushes get attacked or farms later down the line
Day by day,you still have good content about AoE 2.
what mods / texture things do u have im new to aoe (steam summer sale) how can i optimize my game and make it look like yours?
For a video like this you could use the cheat aegis to make it faster
