@@bunnit8651 I feel like they have seperate teams for outfits as well - but like and bear with me here: if you, sso, work on new character models then work on them and grind really and stop making new stuff for a few months and instead fit that stuff for the new chara models!

As a person who played the cd gamed in2006(as being 6 then) and played SSO through out my teenage years, i am almost 22!! I love sso to pieces, but they do this. i even started giving up logging on for last 3 years. i missed the birthday stuff (mostly) this year. I use to believe they genuinely liked my ideas. years ago I had a sso team member who kinda responded to all my ideas. He seemed very happy what saddens me is i think he quit and i wouldnt blame him..
well, what should I say...I'm only a few years away from my 30s 🙃🔫

How can you call yourself a professional game company that makes over 2 million $ monthly and NOT have a team for quests? Hire more people and you won’t have to “juggle your resources”!!! 🤥 This is ridiculous and we already knew all this, but to hear them say it… is something else. 🤣

Also if they had a quest team they’re should’ve been a balance of horse updates and quest updates, but obviously they’re not even balanced to the point the horse side of the scale will break due to how many horse updates are released🥴

@@DaniellaMoonstar Yes, and in my opinion it’s not even the many horses they release that is the problem, it’s that it comes at the detriment of everything else. I don’t think anyone would be complaining if for 6+ new horses we would also get 6+ quest storylines each month.

And they have been telling us they had one separate team for quests to defend themselves when people complained with them wasting time on horses instead of quests, people just learned it was a lie.
I miss the magic in the game.. I can't stand hearing the music in starstable bc it reminds me of the good old times and it makes me so sad. I really hope they will make the game better, so that the old players can enjoy the game again. I think they should give us only 4 new horse breeds a year. And focus more on the quests and things to do.
OMG! I have the EXACT same problem, when that Moorland theme hits, it knocks me back six years and I'm back with my old Jorvik Warmblood off on a wild adventure. And then I remember where I am, and I become so depressed that I have to shut the game down. I wish they would do more :(
@@YTRattle Yes D: Some years ago I had a dream.. That they would do one server with the older sso, maybe not from the FIRST beginning, but some years ago, and only your old horses shows in your stable and you can only wear your old clothes. And the cat is back and your old homestable, So that when you want to go back you can... I would totally do it. And when you want to be in todays starstable you can just change server and all your new horses and clothes shows up again. I miss how the old world looked, it was so much brighter. I gotta be honest.. I was more exited then when a new horse color (When pretty much every horse was the same model) came out then I am now when we get a whole new breed.
What the game used to be: Everyone had cool, colorful looks, just a few horses and you knew them all (Now I have around 100 horses and I only know the name of like 10), Jorvik was brighter and you had fun with your friends (All my friends have stopped playing) and you were SO EXITED when you had bought like 500 starcoins and you could buy your first pony!! I remembered how I sat in class as a little kid dreaming about when I would get home and play starstable with my friends (we even played IRL and where like: Over there is Fort Pinta, and now i'm gonna go to Firgrove and buy that horse, And this is Moorland and this is my homestable and this is my starterhorse Rainbowcookie XD) And you did the wildhorse bug and everyone was so chocked.. And you had to wait for the bus and if you wanted to go to Southhoof you had to take the boat. And Loretta was mean.. And I just... I miss it SO much and I want to go back to in time and just explore the old Jorvik again!
What the game is now: Everyone has black or brown outfits that costs 456643 starcoins, new horses everyday, 9 years between storyline quests, Jorvik is a dark and boring place and theres nothing to do except buy horses and be with your club but you till dont wanna quit playing bc you love it and you have invested (I think its called i'm from sweden and Im not good at english) so much money in it. I know that in many ways its more realistic now.. But I miss the old times so bad and starstable actually cared about their players :(

@@tildaahdel lmao i actually wrote down an idea like this for SSO, a classic graphics mode of some sort, with an option to toggle between new and old soundtrack, like Wizard 101 (just without the soundtrack thing because they never changed the ost). Of course, in good ol SSO fashion, i only got a copy paste reply that they'll read it, and then radio silence :/

WAIT A SECOND. Are you telling me that there is not a SINGLE soul working on the Main storyline. I bet these developers forgot about Garnock and the fact that anne was trapped in Pandoria! But I also bet that they didn't forgot to add overpriced clothing items and horse models. Like they charge this game at 75 euros and we are busy for what 3 motnhs! Thats called scamming, this game is clearly worth 60 euros less than its original price!
It shocked me just as much, I could not believe it! And I don't think you're that far off, they probably forgot about the whole storyline by this point XD And yeah, it does feel scammy, doesn't it?
You know what? Eff it. I'm going to write the end of the storyline with my Star Stable friends. If SSO is not going to do it, the players will.

i really do not understand how people can sit and defend them NOT having a quest team. yes, it's a horse game, but there's over 100 varieties of horses already existing in the game. i started this game for the quests, i quit the game because of the lack of quests and i joined again in hopes of new quests, which were virtually non-existent..... star stable would not be as successful as it is today if it didn't contain those main story quests and the fact we are still waiting on quest updates from 2015/2017(?) in epona gives me the shivers. there is literally no defending the way star stable handles this game
Literally after they rescued my boy Herman with Mrs. X and the others and they were like: yeah we’re just gonna look at it later. Then procrastinated now for about 4 years💀

If you really think about it: Star Stable is not even a good horse game. Yes you can feed, clean, pet and ride your horse. But you can't do groundwork, you can't really bond with your horse and you can't even decorate your stable.
For a game that is about the special bond between horse and rider, they do a pretty poor job on that when you horse is basically a priviliged car.
Use it to get from A to B, clean it and then put it back in the stable/ garage.
Remove stacey and hire someone who actually care about the game and the fans. And also hire the guy that wrote the first main story quests he was the one who wrote the script for the starshine legacy games.

Oh please, at least the white knights don't have a defence anymore. But God this hurts to watch, they are UPPING? The price of pets, I never buy them cuz they were worth half a horse as it is but God I wouldn't be surprised if they released a horse worth 1200 starcoins and just look at us and go "The horse is special and our team worked very hard on it 😊😊" And not to mention this explains why half the bugged horses have not been fixed yet.

There is no way that SSO can last 10 more years. With all these new horse games coming out, SSO is going to be tossed to the curb. For example, as soon as Equestrian The Game comes out in every country, I doubt that the people who ride horses in real life (Me included) are going to want to play a game with little to no things to do with horses other then train. Equestrian is way more interesting to me and it’s not even out in my country yet, and that worries me since I’ve been playing SSO for about 4 years. But alas, when the game does go downhill, I believe that SSO will wonder why, Like they usually do when something goes wrong..

seriously though, love your videos. i completely agree with everything you pointed out and i really don’t know how anyone can defend star stable at this point. i really want to be hopeful, but seeing how blind these two are to the actual issues is awful. they openly admit there is no quest team, which was their only defense for mass producing horses (and even if there was a quest team, it’s a bad excuse) and don’t address any gameplay updates (like the racing update we’ve been promised for years, or idk, dressage??).
i love that their workplace is so considerate of their employees, but if they can pump out horses, they can pump out quests too. if they can work on environmental updates, they can work on gameplay updates too. their priorities are all wrong, just like you said.
My experience with the support team was brutal. They were extremely rude to me. My game was broken for months, I could not see other players in an ONLINE game. This made it so hard to be in a club or to make any friends. The support team answered me with their generic response message which showed me that they didn't even care enough to actually help me. After 9 months I got help on instagram from another community member by spamming my issue on one of their posts. They messed up their game, yet made it my problem and made me feel as if I was all alone. I don't believe everyone in there is like that, but being treated like nothing after you spend R700 on a game is down right wrong.

that person saying that making a quest is harder than making a horse. yes and no. the npc's in this game have MAX 3 animation sets each, maybe some emotes for the main 4. but what irks me is that they made making a whole new model of horse sound like a cake walk. its... it's just not.
i'm also of the opinion that they have enough horses and items in game (and events if they didnt trash them for the first half of the year) that they could take a break for a month to just work on bugs and getting the game working smoother. oh and some new quests that dont last a day.
Yeah, no, it's not. Each of those have their challenges. Animations and creation of the horse takes time and a lot creativity, where as quest is more planning, writing, and triggers you need to incorporate. I don't think any one of this is harder/easier, but they still need teams to work on these things. ♥

@@YTRattle I read somewhere that they have like a "bible" where the whole story line is written down till the end. It's somewhere in their office. Which means they do know what comes next, they "just" have to turn it into a few dialogues and an animated story.

I remember looking at job listing for the company out of curiosity at one point and being confused when all the listing were for environment or 3d modeling for new creatures, or hiring for their new game, but no story related jobs at all. Which led me to believe that they either have a quest team that's full and tight knit and their horse building team was just a revolving door... Or that there wasn't a team just for quests. Guess I know which it is now.

Now where are all those people who defended them for being so absent with quests and STORY quests for that matter? Too much dedication on creating horses and every other cosmetic rather than taking a break from them a bit and focusing on story instead. Creating quests takes time, sure and now i know why lol
They'll be creeping out of the woodwork soon. From my experience when stuff like this lands, defenders of SSO always take a moment to simmer before coming up with a new strategy. They'l be here. Soon.

@@YTRattle I can't be bothered to keep entertaining everyone who like to turn a blind eye to their actions, either that or just be completely dense to what is going on. I have been here since 2013 and seeing this game go downhill out of greed is truly disappointing but i suppose i shouldn't be surprised, it's hard to encounter a good company these days. I can't be ignorant still, i get that someone might think that overly strong criticism is gonna bring the devs down but it's actually the opposite! Imagine being quiet and pretending that everything is cool, they'd think that everything is fine and no change would be made whatsoever! So yeah, keep doing what you do, the sole fact that SSO cannot deal with valid criticism speaks louder than words.

I don't believe for a second SSO will be relevant for another 10 years. While more (and bettter!) horse games are being developed, and technology is evolving while SSO is staying behind because of greedy people. I'm probably ready to leave SSO behind if the time is there. 2 years is my bet. 2 years and the rotting corpse of a game I once loved has fully decomposed.
It was so shocking, my original video was so angry that I thought I was going to chuck something out the window at one point. But yeha, two years I think is the sweet spot. I hope you watched from 15:24 XD

with better tech, game devs can make better games for cheaper too. So. The "we need to sell horses to get money to improve the game" isn't going to hold water for much longer. (IMO, it doesn't hold water now. Come on even with the 26 million of 2019 the game could be so much better off.)
This is a great pointing out of the things SSO is getting wrong, and where other horse games are growing strong enough to challenge the number one horse game.
This is why I'm so adament in getting friends to try Horse Isle 3; its all of the game mechanics Star Stable seemingly cannot attain, yet it gets almost no recognition because "it looks bad". True, the graphics are of a lower quality compared to other MMOs, but it does have mechanics and features, things to do, and what main quests it lacks now I have the full trust that they will deliver on, as they have not broken their promises in quite the same way Star Stable, unfortunately, has.
I am a veteran player of SSO, and it hurts me in much the same way that it does others with these false promises. To the point that I almost never play the game anymore, its just the same things every day. I miss when SSO was actually exciting and had potential. But now I would rather play my little-known other horse game as opposed to putting up with SSO, and that's sad.
I am with you, I really hope things can and will change for the better for the biggest horse game around.

the main issue with HI3 is the devs. If you can get past that and not give them any money, its a great game

I'd love to try out Horse Isle 3 once they improve to have better looking graphics. It seems like a nice game with great mechanics. But yes, most players prefer better looking games these days considering how far technology has improved. Why stay in the past and miss out on the wonderful worlds that the gaming industry has to offer?
Even RDR2 Online has BETTER horse related mechanics than SSO. (OK, maybe it's an unfair comparison, but when I'm in a horsey mode, I play RDR2 Online. Not SSO.)

SSO claims about the bonds of horses, but they don’t even have a bonding system. Literally RDR2 online and in the story has a bonding system and they’re a western action game💀
@@DaniellaMoonstar IKR 😂 the horses in SSO can jump a grand prix course the minute you buy them! There's not much of a real difference in the leveling system from when you buy them vs. when they're fully trained!
@@warriorswings The only thing that changes is the speed, and the description of some magic horses and Jorvik wilds is useless when you just have to buy the horse and it magically obeys you. Jorvik wilds are less wild than school horses in real life.
@@jujublue4426 I wish they added significantly notable difference :/ it would have been annoying to teach EACH horse to jump, but it would have made things more realistic, and I would've spent more time 'training' the horse I like to get the speed and jump height I need! The speed shouldn't have to be the only 'significant' factor that changes...

What is really interesting is that sso wont even make new saddles or bridles and stuff, things we could put our star coins into, they just do recolors for years for old equipment. Why wont they update the regular saddles? What about the saddle Alex uses? What about new equipment slots and new ways to customize your horse? NEW MANE STYLES? But all they care about is the horses. As if it is the only thing we can buy in the game. "There should be more horse games" sounds like they want more games for us to play, so we will stop demanding them to fix theirs, but at the same time, it means we will stop playing sso. They are digging their own grave and I feel like they are doing it on purpose.
I don't know if any of you have played sso during the open house but one of the Lippizaner statues had a double bridle(a bridle with 2 bits and reins) when it's just a statue.. so how hard is It to actually make new tack models rather then recolors all the time... at this point they're just lazy and greedy.
Or creating medieval saddles and saddlepads to match the bridles. And allowing all the gen 3 to wear it... Or just creating a real new dressage saddle this time. There's tons of things missing.

the fact that they boast in articles about how they are really busy updating environments and horses and adding events meanwhile events are completely recycled and nothing new was added this halloween except for a new pet and their environment doesn't interact with itself at all like for example when you walk past a lantern, you literally walk through the light because its a flat object, purely for decoration and not actually there in the natural environment... and their horses are purely cosmetic and do not have any individual features, skills, or identities of their own and even when they did have some individuality SSO took it away because it "wasn't inclusive enough" (COLD TOLERANCE!!!) and im tired of thinking that all this is acceptable because its a childrens game... because SSO admits it themselves that they have a tween-teen audience. most ratings rate this game 8-12, so it's not made for little babies who say googoo gaga.. plus we all know they only make a profit off of their older players because babies dont have credit cards lol.
So much this! And I never even noticed the light issue. No wonder the game looks so falt all the time. They really need to start fixing their game. And removing cold tolerance made me so miffed it wasn't even funny. I loved the Dino Valley, it was unique, and they gutted that uniqueness for some stupid reason. Maybe one day they'll wake up :\

I had no idea why, all of a sudden, there was just nobody playing the game. I was doing the Halloween update quests, but there was almost nobody around. Shortly after, this video was released, and now everything makes sense. Thank you for making this video.
I think SSO would be better off if there was more similar horse games that they had to compete with. At this point they're like Apple and add some small feature that has existed in all other games with horse for like 5 years and people go "aaah soo cool".
Competition would force them to get better, I wish they at least TRY though. LOL! So true with the apple thing XD

I think they'll have to try if they at all want the app to succeed. Otherwise there's a huge risk that all older players go to the play/app store and rate the game down and complain about there not being enough content for a game so expensive. Considering that lots of kids have more powerful phones than computers, bad reviews on the stores wouldn't be ideal if they want to reach an audience that don't already play the game on PC.
Sso feels like the only horse game out there that made its players hate seeing and getting new horses.
and tbh I don't think i'd hate getting a new horse every month if we also got quest or content alongside it I remember a few times sso gave us a small quest showing off the new horse or area it wasn't much of a quest when Ydris showed off his grey Zebra pony to us but it was a neat way to show off the new horse in the game.

This is how I've been feeling. We get more horses and i usually roll my eyes and go, "Wow look another breed" of course I'll buy one with some saved up sc and have a look at them, because that's the only content in the game to consume, but then I'll go right back to wondering where's the quests? Where's the gameplay? We only get cosmetic updates but no actual game. It's just a horse buying simulator. Also, there's no way to earn any horses in the game, so I will log off and wait until star coins build up because that's apparently how you earn. You log off for a couple months and then log on when you have the money to try out their horse breeds. It's a game that literally encourages you not to play when you cannot pay for any of the new content. It's just sad.

The videos from this channel are EXACTLY what I want sso to watch. They need to realize every fact that you're saying. Honestly if they would at least update the racing mechanics then we would have something fun to do in the game. That would give them a bit more time to pull themselves together and give us quests and other things. I got so invested into sso a year ago, because of the quests. But just about a month after I got lifetime star rider, they were done. Now the only reason I still play the game is to rp with my friend. That's it.
As someone who's played this game since launch and grew up with this franchise it pains me to see how little actual growth the game has done. And as someone who's studying game animation, it's insane that they won't let their team get creative freedom and tbh the animations in game are not up to par as a industry leader... Even though the crunch mentality needs to go away, you still need to challenge yourself and your abilities. I really love this game and want it to be as good as we all know it can be.
Y’all when I tell you that it seemed fishy when defenders or SSO said they have 2 set teams it didn’t link to how the game is now. Also the more stuff that’s coming out the more that’s getting into the documentary. The best description I can give of SSO is a a small one layer cake with a bunch of frosting. The frosting being the horses, any small fillers and graphics. While the cake is the content like quests, actual permanent worth while activities, etc that’s burnt due to the lack of care put into those areas. It can also be seen as a a house with a weak foundation with its tech debt. I also find it interesting when in the article they say they want inclusiveness and diversity when it’s far from it. Even Stacy in the article saying the inclusion of other genders would further hammer in the need for inclusiveness and diversity especially in the equestrian world with it being called girl sport most of the time. Same goes with horse games being seen as girly games. Plus if you look in older horse games technically SSO isn’t the first to only have girl characters in horse games. The old pippa funnel series focusing on different female protagonists, petz horses club with Lily as well as her prequel Petz horses/ pippa funnel rescue ranch (I believe that’s what it’s called), obviously their own starshine legacy games, Barbie horse games and more. There’s even older horse games that give male and female options such as my riding stable life with horses, riding star,etc except there’s very few that give male options. I just find it hypocritical when they’re claiming they support the LGBTQIA+ community except they don’t really support the G with males. Even thought they add like 2 non-binary npcs and given us they/them pronouns it’s not really inclusive with shoving people under one umbrella of pronouns which is why I think they should let us choose our own at least. I just also now find it funny that after people still saying that there’s 2 set teams and now with this is article it basically confirms even more on how untrue it is because of the lack of content and this further hammers in the truth that they focused on the quantity of horses and not quality of having a balance of horses, content and filler. Plus while reading that article it’s got me thinking even further about this in general after looking at the updates from the past to now. I honestly don’t think it’ll last 10 more years which is why I’m honestly giving it 2 more years. However, with the rate they’re going it’s gonna end up being as a dead as riders of icarus when Valofe took over or as money hungry as club penguin island and other MMOs
To add another series of horse games with a female protagonist there is also the French games Alexandra Ledermann ( named after a French professional rider) and recently the Schleich video game. It annoys me this genre is still deemed girly, for once there should be a game with the possibility to make a male character. As a girl I feel bad for boys who are ashamed od playing horse games because it's considered as girl games, horses are for girls...
@@jujublue4426 yes that’s why I wish there were more horse games like Alicia Online, Wildshade and other pc games that give both male and female character options because it helps tear away the stereotypes of horses only being for girls, horse of games are for girls only, equestrianism is for girls only, etc. I just don’t understand how they claim their inclusive when they’re excluding genders that aren’t female in LGBTQIA+ related things and the game itself. Just cause they added a few npcs that are non-binary, lesbian, queer, etc doesn’t mean they’re inclusive. If they were inclusive there should’ve been a variety when it comes to character creation especially. The story is still doable with different genders due to the fact that SSO added they/them pronouns. If they can add non-binary pronouns they can sure as hell add male pronouns and open up the opportunity to let players pick their own pronouns and furthermore hammer in inclusiveness. Plus I’ve seen male players express why they want male characters or at least acknowledgement and It’s just sad when people talk down on them as a men’s if trying to give off the message that there’s none for the empowerment of women when in general women can be powerful with and without the presence of men and all in all it gives a bad message on having equality. Yes as a women we need empowerment, butt he only way things can be equal is to have equality with all genders. It’s 2021 and we’re not stuck in the 1800s. I just hope they realize there’s a way to be inclusive without removing genders for the sake of profit😕
I've heard about that really awesome Minecraft horse mod coming out sooner or later. As an older player of SSO, I hope that the competition does scare them enough to get their butts back on track. The game needs more content, or else the game may go belly-up within maybe give or take a few more years. I love SSO and I still want to play it some, but they probably should get their act together, hire a few more people for quests and other little in-game features. I also want them to give us our cold tolerance back, lol, and I want them to make Dino Valley foggy again, too, cuz it used to be harder to see where you were going and I loved that so much!
Edit: from later on in the video, making a game engine is insanely difficult. Making them can take game companies literal years and millions of $. Personally I believe SSO is using the same game engine the SSL games were using.
I think the main problem holding SSO back can be pretty much summarised by what you said at 3:40.
SSO is spreading itself too thin and is more focused on becoming more of a brand, a media icon than staying as a game.
As of now, they have made, or are making:
- Songs for *5* fictional artists
- Books in about 5 different languages (Polish, Swedish and English I'm sure of. Translating is a lot of work!)
- Comics in about 5 different languages
- An animated series, first Mistfall now another; in about 10 different languages including audio versions for the blind/poor sighted.
- A mobile port for their game
- A whole game that isn't SSO
- ANOTHER whole game that isnt SSO
- Merchandise, on and off. The store comes and goes it seems.
It really is an absolutely absurd amount when it's laid out like this. And they only have, what, 200 employees? Again I'll use destiny 2 as an example. Bungie, from my memory, has about 600 employees, but that's a figure from 2 years ago. As they're rebuilding their office entirely, as well as seen massive game growth, I think it can be assumed they've moved past 1000 employees (another source from 2020 says 900 employees). So a company nearly 5x the size of SSO. They have barely any merch, barely any content outside their game, because they know thats where their resources need to go to make people happy and make money. Seriously, go have a look at the bungie store, there isn't much, and most of it collaborates with other companies. SSO needs to focus on being a game first and foremost.

as a gamedev i have a few things to say about the comments about the game engine. to write a game engine from scratch is something that takes a lot of time and skill, and although it's technically great to have your own handmade engine that's built to do exactly what you want it to do, if done badly (as is sso's current case) it causes a lot of problems down the line. (of course that is true of any programming done badly no matter if you use an existing engine or not.)
moving over to a different game engine made by someone else, could potentially have been a good choice for sso, but yet again it would take a lot of time to move over the entire game into a new engine - a lot of work to recreate the functionality in the new system and to add in all the old content correctly to make it work.
both creating a new engine from scratch, or moving onto a different engine, would take a lot of time and work that i really don't think sse is prepared to handle, since the management seems to have no interest in prioritising work that takes a lot of effort for future gains. so it seems most likely that they will continue to do what they are already doing, which is to try to improve the engine they do have. they have been making some updates and improvements for a while. this is better than nothing, but all in all it's like trying to slowly replace or repair one little part of a broken car at a time, and slapping on some new paint here and there on the outside of it, when in reality the whole car is falling apart and you should've just scrapped it and got a new car 7 years ago.
what we can tell about the code that sso runs on is that it was always made in a chaotic way, not sustainable and not built to last. it was built in simple ways to just get it barely working. it was never built to be sustainable, easy to work with, easy to add on to, or good for making fun games. it seems it was built "just to exist". that kind of coding is okay for prototypes and for smaller games that aren't intended to have continuous updates. anything that you want to expand on and keep running for a long time, as well as having lots of different staff work on, should be built in a very different way than what sso is.

Part of me feels that SSO was thrown together just to make some quick easy money with assets they already had from their other games. And now it's clear that they are just struggling to keep it going. This game isn't going to last another 10 years. Not unless they make a completely new game.

Also what really pissed me off, is them having to juggle ressources as though they don't have the buget to hire people to work on quests, AND YET they blow god knows how much on a flipping animated webseries, a girl band, all the extra features OUTSIDE of the game as a marketing stunt to draw people in. When that money SHOULD be going into quest building.

Rattle strikes again! Really great commentary and Ginny O.'s videos on SSO were excellent as well. I agree, clubs are really the only thing I'm here for that I seriously put my time into, and even then, so many clubs are disbanding because SSO isn't offering anything to them anymore. Side note, the club update that improved the visual appearance and club roles really wasn't revolutionary for well established clubs. I'm pretty sure the more highly demanded updates are better advertising methods, more club names, and club inspections. This goes back to the whole point that the team doesn't address the older players. These visual updates seem aimed at newer club owners. Older club owners are mostly on Discord that have advanced permissions.
Also, what you said at the very beginning about your voice; although I think you meant it literally that your voice was in shambles, I think we can also take that more metaphorically - we can only commentate and critique so much before our voices are just so exhausted from not being heard. The up and coming horse game developers know that a majority of the horse game players play SSO, and they themselves might have even played SSO, and they know what SSO is lacking. What SSO is lacking is what new games are going to use to make them stand out.

This is rather sad. Girls love games, I'm a girl and I love games - Dark Souls, Elder Scrolls, Planescape, Mordhei,: City of the damned. Games are awesome. But because games are so catered to a specific type of aesthetic girls tend to steer clear. The one game that focuses on an aesthetic girls would like and it's such a crapshoot. Sadly it was after i already spent money on a lifetime but i still had some fun with it. Honestly i wouldnt even mind as much the "gameplay" if it had a ton of quests because then you could just classify it as a more story based chill game but its not even that. Im glad my small comment inspired you for vid tho c: (if it happends) Games for me have a lot of meaning (even sso) so seeing it go this downhill hurts. Man Mass Effect is literally my ultimate favorite series. I'm disappointed highly in SSO as it really is dumbing down the entire game, hell I am upset that they removed the magical horses changing depending on the area.
They're removing most of the charm in the game. I don't know why, but it has the nasty effect of breaking any sort of immersion we could still enjoy. And woot for ME fan! I love that game series, I always play an engineer and my favourite team members are Garrus and Legion ♥ :D

Yeowch. What a burning 100% true comment. You know, the only thing articles like this one do is inspire me to MAKE my own game. But err... like I've had that since 2016 or so. Sigh.
Actually, the game is nice to play in the first months when you have quests everywhere and an interesting story, but once it's done there's nothing else to do than waiting for Hollyday updates and buy horses to train them. The only ones who have a minimum fun are people who do championships and kick everyone's asses with their pintabian or roleplayers and it's not really my thing, I prefer to play on my own especially since most players are 12-year-old girls and some of them can be really annoying.
It sucks for people who are not interested in or don't have money to buy horses and became star riders to have a game with an incredible story, and it's so ridiculous to buy so much horses in a game where you're supposed to have a strong link with your starter horse which rots in your stable for months until one day there might be a new story quest with it, hell you don't even need it to go to Pandoria anymore. But it's useless because this horse has zero stats, you can't win championships with it so you just don't use it out of story quests, and never again when your quests are done.

@@YTRattle Short isn't my term to use personally, I joined their discord before there were even moderators. I got banned after two years with literally only the ONE offense that got me banned with a "drop this or you're banned with no redemption" when I was angry at a mod for being abelist to me multiple times. I had seen almost ALL of my friends leave from the mod team pissing them off and a week prior to my banning I was told "You've known Alice for two years, have some faith in her." And was banned as if I wasn't there for the past two years because they twisted my words when I was furious. Needless to say I don't support them anymore.

@@YTRattle Yeah the discord server is basically filled with only gamedevs now, so you have to be careful of talking about any critism to make it "an equal place". Like I cant say the creators of Horse Isle 3 are pieces of shit without getting told off, despite being banned from the HI3 forums for saying "LGBT People deserve rights." The whole conversation that got me banned stemmed from a mod telling a nonbinary person to stop making jokes that "generalize all men" and that they "like to keep generalizations at all about any group to a minimum, espically ones with negative implications." So needless to say, as a nonbinary, autistic, lesbian, that pissed me off lol. I saved all the screenshots of that conversation because it still passes me off to this day...

As a player since 2017 I am getting so disappointed with this game. I recently hit level 21 thanks to some XP from the holloween quests that took an hour to do, but level 20 has the same stats and no matter how hard I’ve tried and worked on the races I still end up getting 2nd or even 3rd against level 20s’ I took a year to level up I only have 4 more rep quests, not including Dino archeology. Does that even give you player XP? I’m tired of all the rep older players have to do to gain level 20 or even 22. I’m hoping for some good quests and a racing system update so I don’t need to worry about this so much. Even just a way I can do dressage with a bot or a few. As a teenager I don’t have all the time in the world for clubs. I wish I did I had to leave Metal Queens, do to the lack of things I had to juggle just in real life. I hate feeling like if I don’t spend hundreds of star coins on stable care I’m going to have slow sad horses I’m going to have to lose races for. And training yes it takes 3 and a half days to train one horse, I don’t have hours a day to sit and finish all the races. UPDATE THIS SSO. I’m tired of getting updates for new clothes and horses when we need quest updates that give good xp. I was so excited for the last story quest update but what it gave like maybe 100xp. I’m tired of waiting years to get a higher level because I don’t have the time to grind. Fix yourself star stable. Also at least two years ago I wanted to work at star stable, now I see how bad it is and I don’t want to anymore. I know some gamemasters say it’s amazing working there, but is it really? EverQuest. The ORIGINAL EverQuest. Super old. Still around with a lot of players still playing, and new players joining. Myself included. Old graphics but fun gameplay. They even released the old version of RuneScape from 07 because people prefer it. Bad graphics but the newer version of RuneScape, RuneScape 3, is arguably easier. You can play RuneScape 8+ hours a day for a month and still not be anywhere near finished with the quests and skills.
Hold on when tf did they remove cold tolerance and whyyy? What's the point of ever having an upgraded snow forest like dino valley now?

@@taylorwilliams6520 I think they removed cold tolerance during summer time this year. I don't remember exactly what their reasoning was, but I think they said something to the effect of "horses' speed shouldn't be "punished" for being in a colder area."
@@RebeccaRavenbird I believe what ex-GM Leila said was the cold tolerance and the auto slow was "Unfair Challenge." And they removed them in order to make the game more "inclusive" and the only reason cold tolerance existed was to push the sale of cold tolerant horses. (Well, duh.) I um, didn't respond. I couldn't be polite.
I have finished the game and I am lifetime so honestly there really isn’t anything to do. I am kinda losing hope in them changing.
When the game struggles for revenue in the next ~5 years it'll be too late for changes players were asking for today. But realistically that will be the outcome if they don't start giving a crap for anything except how to easily milk money from rabid supporters and/or those who buy every single new horse, tack, etc. There's also the very realistic chance someone with money, time, and a better approach will see this mess and make a competitor that blows them 100% out of the water, with things like ways to earn premium currency without HAVING to purchase it. And that'll end SSO as slowly, but surely, those rabid supporters try the competitor and migrate.. There's an opening, because people ARE complaining- And it only takes one person to see that opportunity.

That's it, I'm done! I hate SSO as it is right now, and my suspicion for the inner workings of this "gaming company" had become more and more vindictive these last two years. I'm somewhat--in a sick way--relieved, at least I know I wasn't being unreasonable and did in fact see the red flags, so I decided to lessen my emotional involvement so when it came out that they are in fact incompetent, greedy liars, it doesn't hurt as much to just stop playing. Still hurts though. I assume this is how World of Warcraft players feel about their game?
I have literally grown to hate a game I used to adore. I've been playing this game for half of my life, started at 11 years old, 21 now. All that time spent wasting my time and hard earned money on an game that has no business being as profitable as it is. Whatever, at least I enjoyed it when it was good.
This is genuinely the last straw for me, I cannot believe this company has the audacity to even exist at this point, it's beyond embarrassing for them that they don't even have a proper quest team for a story driven game! And their Halloween event? I tried, I really tried to enjoy it as much as I did the two before this one. Not only is it still almost completely unplayable for me due to the massive amount of glitches and bugs, it's boring and the items are all overpriced. I also recently tried replaying the game on a new character with the free star rider events and everything, and I mean everything is glitchy and bugged. Whatever you're imagining right now, just know it was worse. It's inexcusable, this game and the companies profit scheme and predatory advertisements towards minors is unjustifiable and should not be tolerated, I mean they would be torn to shreds by the vast majority of adult gamers. Another thing SSO is lucky about, their overwhelmingly young naive player base, the age group they designed the game for, and the older veteran players, sweethearts the lot of you.
The only reason SSO is profiting still is because they've become predatory (in a family friendly game of all things) in their profit scheme and the very, very, very niche horse genre. I've noticed as a more "hard-core gamer" that this game gets little attention from other hard-core gamers (and for good reason), we're in the minority here. Not surprising that we have been the vast majority of player that have criticized and continue to criticize SSO. Everytime I see someone criticize or even straight up hate on Star Stable Online it's because they play other video games and know what MMOs are supposed to play like. SSO does not look even remotely close to other MMO games, not even MMO's with similar budgets. Then there are the top MMORPG's right now. Seriously, Star Wars: the Old Republic. FREE, FUN, and it even has great voice acting by some of the best voice actors; like Troy Baker, Nolan North, Laura Bailey, Jennifer Hale and Ike Amadi. It has so much content that I'm still playing that game happily since 2016, and I don't even care for Star Wars as much as the more average Star Wars fans. Then there's Final Fantasy 14, endless free trial of A realm Reborn AND Heavensward, and TONS of content. FFXIV is THE beast as of right now of MMORPGs and worth every cent I decided to put into this game as of just a few months ago. After those two there is other good MMO games like Elder Scrolls Online, Neverwinter and many more. Surprisingly, I've been having more fun playing RunScape then SSO. For anyone that hasn't played a quality MMORPG/MMO/video games in general just try them and I swear you will never give SSO anymore of your money or time, because you will become very aware that SSO is not worth either.
And the only thing they do get right is treating their employees relatively well, and that's only because they reside in Sweden.
I feel they need to connect events with horses. Imagine getting a Mule and geting a quest with canyons to climb and explore. Lots of breeds have history that can be used for quests. Imagen doing a quest to help a forest owner to take down trees and with the help of your horse to transport the wood, not a poof you got it thing, but how people have done it in real life with your horse pulling the cut down trees and then you get to plant new trees.
Who wants a new horse with no new content to do with them?
A rescue center could be fun. imagen befriending a horse that you can keep at the end of the quest for free. They could do allot of these little fun things if they had a real plan and the "two" teams worked together, the idea that they dont is really stupid in my opinion.

Disclaimer: I am not an "SSO defender," I don't feel sorry for SSO receiving criticism, I am just someone who has a more objective stance on the whole thing since I did not play this when I was little and have no nostalgia over it and don't really feel owed anything, or have this idea that for-profit companies are here to do anything but make money (and I'm not talking "to pay the employees," I'm talking to line some pockets). This whole conversation is fascinating to me and this is kind of an "outsider looking in" take because I don't really find myself in either camp. I've been playing for a year and a half, level 20, all storylines complete, kinda bored, agree that their PR and customer service could use improvement, and I'm also tired of new horses so I'm with you but also not because none of SSE's decisions surprise me nor personally offend me.
I have been watching your videos for a little while and I do think you are missing a large demographic of the game. Saying that SSO is dying, that people are going to drop it immediately if something better comes along, that players are fed up with lack of quests and similar, and that the game is shrinking, not growing. This might be true if the entire player base was players like you (and me!) - older players who are there for quests and content. But it isn't.
The truth is, the vast majority of active players on SSO are not that. They are young kids who are getting on to chat with friends and most notably, RP. While you argue that it is not an MMORPG because of certain definitions, just spending any time watching global chat would show maybe it's not *that* kind of MMORPG, but it is an MMO... with RPing. A LOT of RPing. Players that are barely leveled because they do not care about quests, they come up with their own stories and spend hours upon hours every day essentially playing make-believe. This is a HUGE part of the game that criticism like this is ignoring. What you see as unnecessary environment upgrades, SSE probably sees as things to foster the imagination of those players and keep them coming back. Think about it - all the new paddock props, the new Steve's Farm area has everything needed to RP being at a stable. Young kids there to RP don't need nor care about quest storylines because they make up their own storylines. It's endless content that the players provide themselves.
There are TONS of those players, and more joining every day. The game is anything but shrinking. It will not die if another game comes along with more realistic mechanics and a complete storyline, because that is not what a good chunk of the player base is there for. SSO is the only horse game I know that caters so much to RP players - what other horse-centric game has the option to "be" the horse itself if you choose? I know I would have loved that if I had played when I was young and RPing! Now, as an older player, I don't RP, so I don't even utilize that feature, and I do feel the content is lacking, but I don't assume SSO is turning into a dumpster fire as a result because I can acknowledge that I am not the core demographic SSE cares about the most, and I understand why I am not.
Early on this was different for the game because of its roots. It was not designed to be an RP game, it came from entirely story-based games. But it is evolving to fit what the most players are using it for. That may not be what you and I are using it for, and so we might feel ignored and left behind. But for other players, it's exactly what they want out of the game. SSO is and always will be a for-profit company and they will cater to their largest, most profitable demographic because that's just smart business. Right now, I don't think that demographic is us. I'm not expecting it to be us. It's nice to think they'll try to cater to everyone and maybe at some point they will, but I'm not going to be surprised if it doesn't happen. To be clear - I am not saying any of this is right or wrong, but to expect much different is going to lead to disappointment.

actually crying rn. i've played since 2012 and this is kinda heartbreaking.
The only reason they got 12 million views on the misfall series, is because they literally advertised the WHOLE, 55 minutes long story on youtube, before other channels youtube videos... I remember I wanted to watch something totally different on my phone, I got the usual 2 advertisement before, and I was like: Hey, its the mistfall trailer! ...oh wait, this video is 55 minutes long wtf?

Ok, Done. Done, today I commented on SSOs insa and they replied nothing useful. I thought that we showed them they had to care more in may but THID ID JUSY SAD.
did you know the last time we got new hair styles was in 2017!!!! (in 2019 we got 2 new hair colors) and that was it...... if they are not updating the characters why are there no new hairstyles ?

Bruh, unless they are making quests in a completely new world for wich they need new textures, maps and sounds, than if they had a dedicated writer and programmer team they could be popping quests out on a weekly basis. They already have the character models, the quests are 90% of the time either races or fetch missions, without voice acting, there really is no reason for them to take this long.
After this they better drop another boss fight, I was genuenly impressed when I reached that part of the game, I was not expecting that one. Speaking of wich, it would actually be fun to see them expand on the whole magic fight system and make it more than " collect stuff than run at stuff ". They could bring in some actual rpg elements by allowing you to specialise in a specific kind of magic.
Naturally I don't expect Dark Souls or Skyrim level of detail, but I think it would be fun if they expanded on it.
