    Thank you for this! I ran it twice. The first time it must have loosened the ice because it actually got louder but the second time did the trick. When this happened last year I called Samsung repair and it was $240! All the other videos have you taking the inside of the fridge apart and I was not about to go that route. Between the ice maker freezing up every other month and the fridge fan issue I will NEVER buy another Samsung refrigerator... EVER!

      Michael, I had the ice maker problem, too. I called 1-800-SAMSUNG and they sent a repairman who replaced parts and fixed it FOR FREE! My refrigerator is 7 years old and out beyond warranty, but they fixed it. I have the ice build up fitting the fan problem, too. That is not a free fix, unfortunately.

      @@stlanderson Thanks for the update. I did contact them for the ice maker after someone DM'd me about my post with the 1-800-SAMSUNG suggestion.. The person who came replaced the entire ice unit as well as a circuit board in the back of the refrigerator no charge. He made a colossal mess of my kitchen but the fridge and ice maker have been working flawlessly for about 6 months now. I still won't buy another!

    About once a year, my Model 28 starts making the noise I remember as a young boy riding my bike with a playing card taped to the wheel spokes! ARRRRGGGGGHHHH! Wife not happy! This defrost mode trick worked, but I had to repeat it about 6 times. I'm going to make this a once a month exercise as preventive maintenance. Easy enough to do and it does work. Much better option than emptying the fridge, pulling out all the shelves, taking the inner back plate off . . . . Thanks for posting this, Rick! Wife is back into happy mode! :)

    Thank you! I had it serviced before and they changed the assy cover evap (out of warranty) and after just over a year, it happened again. Your video sir, saved me repair cost. Different menu for my refrigerator, I had to use Freezer/ Lighting. I will do this monthly.

    Thanks for the video. The fan sounds like an airplane taking off inside the fridge. I hope it works so I can sleep tonight but I know it's just a very short term, temporarily fix as I've tried it the past (I forgot how to get to the RD mode, so thank you for the upload). I've had this same problem with my fridge for over a year now. I took it apart to get rid of the ice completely. The ice built up again after a couple of weeks. I called Samsung and they had certified technician came out twice. I had to pay for it first time since the fridge was past warranty just by a couple of months. I paid about $430 to fix it which was ridiculous, but they told me I'll never have the problem again. After 6 months or so same problem. Samsung sent a company to fix it and covered the cost for the 2nd time. "One time, out of warranty allowance" they called it. They replaced the sensor, drain hose, the whole panel and some other parts. This was on June 20th, 2020. We now have December 9, 2020 (barely 6 moths past) and we have the same problem. I'm trying to have Samsung come out again after 4 different calls to support and hours spent taking with them. They did not want cover the cost of the repair but after 4th call they said they'll issue "one-time accommodation to cover the Labor and Parts." Well, at least I know I will never buy another Samsung refrigerator again, or any other Samsung product for that matter. This refrigerators should not break so easily and Samsung should stand behind their product. This should be some sort of recall and should be addressed by Samsung and repaired permanently free of charge. This should be an easy fix for them.

    I purchased a house that the previous owner left this type of fridge . We have lived here 10 months and have had to take the back panel inside the fridge and defrost with a heat gun. Why is it freezing? What we discovered was that the vertical hinge flap that seals the gap between the 2 doors was not engaging when closing the left door. This left a small gap between the 2 doors causing the fridge to run constantly, thereby freezing up the unit. A door adjustment was needed with a shim at the bottom pivot hinge of the left door did the trick. This fridge has too many issue for the average person to spend that kind of money and get a product that needs to have so many service calls. Just give me an older fridge with no perks. I have plastic ice trays.😂

    This issue should have generated a recall by Samsung because it's a known issue and has been for years. Bad engineering IMO. You can purchase a metal part for less than $15 that keeps the condensation from freezing in the tiny water drain lines so this doesn't keep happening. It requires you to take apart the inside of the refrigerator, a huge pain in the a** and, I imagine, a hefty repair bill. I did a lot of research and did it myself. A $3K refrigerator should be better than this. My next one, and last I hope, will be Miele. My Miele dishwasher was expensive but is 12 years old and has never had a problem and that is worth the price.

    • @rickalford
      @rickalford  3 роки тому +3

      Tina, if you are just wanting to stop the fan noise then defrosting the freezer won’t help. The noise is the fan located behind the back panel which circulates the cool air throughout the fridge. Run the rd (refrigerator defrost) program two or three times in a row and hopefully it will melt the ice around the fan where it is ticking and making the noise. Unfortunately it’s a flaw (as well as the ice maker freeze up) in this Samsung line of several models that they won’t fix. Good luck!

    Simple question. Where does the water from the melted ice go?!

    • @rickalford
      @rickalford  2 роки тому

      Sorry for late response but wanted to answer anyway. Under the cooling cover is the fan, cooling elements and a heat coil. Below all this is a sheet metal tray routing the water that gets melted or defrosted down a tube and to the bottom rear of your refrigerator into a catch tray near the floor. If you are seeing water accumulation in your produce trays or below then this area is also frozen and blocked which is another problem in itself. If no water is present then yours is draining “normal”. I wish you the best of luck with all these issues. Rick

    Set the fridge temperature at 6 degrees Celsius , this fridge gets too cold and it built lots of ice around the fan and back panel
    Use the screen code to defrost as needed , leave temperature on 6 degrees , it might take couple days .... on the screen press lighting and freezer for 12 seconds it will beep ... than let go and press freezer until you see code RD , this code will defrost the fridge for 20 minutes ... you can also use code FD ... so no need to take a fridge apart .... but also set temperature at 6 than when you feel comfortable bring back to 5 then to 4 , it’s not big deal ... fridge is too cold maybe from factory ...
    Note ! When the code Rd on ,, fridge will beep for 20 mins it’s defrosting ... than automatically it will go back to normal setting...
    You can leave fridge set temp at 6 so it doesn’t build ice ... it still cold

    Lost hundreds of dollars in defrosted meat and more after coming home from work to find my samsung french doors fridge making that horrific noise and everything in the freezer melted. So thanks Samsung for destroying a month's worth of meals. Unfortunately, the fix in this video lasted less than an hour. Noise back. Tried the FD defrost. Same result. Finally unplugged the useless thing and defrosted it overnight. Noise started back up within 3-4 hours after being plugged in. Tore open the back panel. No ice, nothing impeding the fan but it sounds like its hitting something, so I give up. This is the worst refrigerator i have ever bought, my 3rd in 20 years. Crap manufacturers keep turning out crap products. Lazy workers, pathetic designers .They are all to blame for such a piece of garbage making its way to the consumer. This should be a crime! I will never buy an appliance with an onboard diagnostic tool again! It signifies the manufacturers know how flawed their product is, and to try to turn it into a viable product they let the owners figure out whats wrong, and make more buisiness for the repair business when they call for help. Between this and my whirlpool cabrio washer and dryer which are also dying. I am fed up with the crap being sold in this country and am firing off letters of complaint to the BBB, FTC, and if I can find an address, the CEO of samsung. Noone should have to accept an appliance breaking down like this when less than 3 years of age!
