I purchased a house that the previous owner left this type of fridge . We have lived here 10 months and have had to take the back panel inside the fridge and defrost with a heat gun. Why is it freezing? What we discovered was that the vertical hinge flap that seals the gap between the 2 doors was not engaging when closing the left door. This left a small gap between the 2 doors causing the fridge to run constantly, thereby freezing up the unit. A door adjustment was needed with a shim at the bottom pivot hinge of the left door did the trick. This fridge has too many issue for the average person to spend that kind of money and get a product that needs to have so many service calls. Just give me an older fridge with no perks. I have plastic ice trays.😂

We actually just bought a new refrigerator right before I found this video. I’ve done it two times in a row and it’s still making the awful fan noise. Really sick and tired of this Samsung.
This issue should have generated a recall by Samsung because it's a known issue and has been for years. Bad engineering IMO. You can purchase a metal part for less than $15 that keeps the condensation from freezing in the tiny water drain lines so this doesn't keep happening. It requires you to take apart the inside of the refrigerator, a huge pain in the a** and, I imagine, a hefty repair bill. I did a lot of research and did it myself. A $3K refrigerator should be better than this. My next one, and last I hope, will be Miele. My Miele dishwasher was expensive but is 12 years old and has never had a problem and that is worth the price.
Tina, if you are just wanting to stop the fan noise then defrosting the freezer won’t help. The noise is the fan located behind the back panel which circulates the cool air throughout the fridge. Run the rd (refrigerator defrost) program two or three times in a row and hopefully it will melt the ice around the fan where it is ticking and making the noise. Unfortunately it’s a flaw (as well as the ice maker freeze up) in this Samsung line of several models that they won’t fix. Good luck!
Yes we all have. If Samsung would step up and do a recall and correct the know problems with the ice maker and fan freeze up they’d have so much support from their customers.
Sorry for late response but wanted to answer anyway. Under the cooling cover is the fan, cooling elements and a heat coil. Below all this is a sheet metal tray routing the water that gets melted or defrosted down a tube and to the bottom rear of your refrigerator into a catch tray near the floor. If you are seeing water accumulation in your produce trays or below then this area is also frozen and blocked which is another problem in itself. If no water is present then yours is draining “normal”. I wish you the best of luck with all these issues. Rick
Set the fridge temperature at 6 degrees Celsius , this fridge gets too cold and it built lots of ice around the fan and back panel Use the screen code to defrost as needed , leave temperature on 6 degrees , it might take couple days .... on the screen press lighting and freezer for 12 seconds it will beep ... than let go and press freezer until you see code RD , this code will defrost the fridge for 20 minutes ... you can also use code FD ... so no need to take a fridge apart .... but also set temperature at 6 than when you feel comfortable bring back to 5 then to 4 , it’s not big deal ... fridge is too cold maybe from factory ... Note ! When the code Rd on ,, fridge will beep for 20 mins it’s defrosting ... than automatically it will go back to normal setting... You can leave fridge set temp at 6 so it doesn’t build ice ... it still cold
Omg I am going crazy for last 2 months. Why isnt this on google. Why Samsung site does not have this. One guy loaded a video showing how they put the defroster wires incomplete and not fully covering all the coils. Huge defect. I paid $3000 for this loud fridge. Always was loud but now it is absurd.
@@niratul1 there’s a drain in the back ... the best solution ... is to unplug the fridge and let it completely defrost ... I mean literally... might take couple days ... if you have lots of ice built up ... you gotta do it ... coz the code defrost mode won’t do it completely... also most likely you have serious ice built up coz leaving fridge door open for too long and so on lol , good luck

Lost hundreds of dollars in defrosted meat and more after coming home from work to find my samsung french doors fridge making that horrific noise and everything in the freezer melted. So thanks Samsung for destroying a month's worth of meals. Unfortunately, the fix in this video lasted less than an hour. Noise back. Tried the FD defrost. Same result. Finally unplugged the useless thing and defrosted it overnight. Noise started back up within 3-4 hours after being plugged in. Tore open the back panel. No ice, nothing impeding the fan but it sounds like its hitting something, so I give up. This is the worst refrigerator i have ever bought, my 3rd in 20 years. Crap manufacturers keep turning out crap products. Lazy workers, pathetic designers .They are all to blame for such a piece of garbage making its way to the consumer. This should be a crime! I will never buy an appliance with an onboard diagnostic tool again! It signifies the manufacturers know how flawed their product is, and to try to turn it into a viable product they let the owners figure out whats wrong, and make more buisiness for the repair business when they call for help. Between this and my whirlpool cabrio washer and dryer which are also dying. I am fed up with the crap being sold in this country and am firing off letters of complaint to the BBB, FTC, and if I can find an address, the CEO of samsung. Noone should have to accept an appliance breaking down like this when less than 3 years of age!
This may be a dumb question, but where does the water go when you defrost the ice? It seems as if you can leave the food in the fridge while running the RD mode, but I'm assuming the water drains to the bottom of the fridge and will require a clean up? Anyone have experience with this?
There is a drain tube that leads to a pan at the bottom of the fridge where the water evaporates. Usually this works fine, but it can sometimes freeze and you'll get some water inside your fridge.
yes, it only defrost the Cooling coil behind the back of the fridge that's under the center back plastic cover. He recommends doing it twice (about one hour.

Use the screen code to defrost as needed , leave temperature on 6 degrees , it might take couple days .... on the screen press lighting and freezer for 12 seconds it will beep ... than let go and press freezer until you see code RD , this code will defrost the fridge for 20 minutes ... you can also use code FD ... so no need to take a fridge apart .... but also set temperature at 6 than when you feel comfortable bring back to 5 then to 4 , it’s not big deal ... fridge is too cold maybe from factory ...
Always was loud but now it is absurd.
what happens to the defrosted water?
@@niratul1 there’s a drain in the back ... the best solution ... is to unplug the fridge and let it completely defrost ... I mean literally... might take couple days ... if you have lots of ice built up ... you gotta do it ... coz the code defrost mode won’t do it completely...
also most likely you have serious ice built up coz leaving fridge door open for too long and so on lol , good luck
@@kirasmix6528 I have done RD twice so far. The noise has reduced a bit. It’s not consistent.
Will try a few times tomorrow again.
And then if needed will try your suggestion
Thank You!
When do you use RD vs FD ?
Samsung sucks man, but the trick does the job
This may be a dumb question, but where does the water go when you defrost the ice? It seems as if you can leave the food in the fridge while running the RD mode, but I'm assuming the water drains to the bottom of the fridge and will require a clean up? Anyone have experience with this?
There is a drain tube that leads to a pan at the bottom of the fridge where the water evaporates. Usually this works fine, but it can sometimes freeze and you'll get some water inside your fridge.
Never a dumb question, when you don't have the knowledge. I was wondering the same thing. Now I'm getting ready to try this defrost technique.
Do the fridge continue to beep while in the RD mode?
Oh yes. Every second for about 30 minutes. I usually activate it just before I leave the house.
Does anyone know if you can do this while the fridge has food in it? Holiday emergency :) Thanks!
yes, it only defrost the Cooling coil behind the back of the fridge that's under the center back plastic cover. He recommends doing it twice (about one hour.
Yes you definitely can. Sorry for late response. I run it about 2-3 times in a row.
@@rickalford how frequently do you recommend we doing this on periodic basis ?
Did anyone have model 28T?? There is no light button.
What's the difference between rd and fd?
Refrigerator defrost and freezer defrost.
@@moeharri I had the same question. I found out the expansion earlier but question is how when do you use one mode vs other ?
@@sreenathnagarur this didn't work for me at all. I had to take apart the interior to get at and melt all of the ice that had built up.
My fridge beeps in sync with this video, trippy

Hold this down! WTF!
