When to cash the pension. Bloody anxiety. What do you think the army is playschool? The clue is in the word. The higher you get in the ranks, and you obviously will not, you would get anxious. An unexploded device in Afghan, an unhappy relative in southern Ireland because you ignored the borders. Man up you wimp and don't disgrace the real Army.
Woah. I started watching your videos maybe half a year ago. You really changed a lot Andy. But I think in a positive and healthy way, definitely very confident. You can be really proud of yourself. I really love your videos and I'm thankful for you sharing all of this. You've got such a soothing and sympathetic attitude. It's really relaxing and always feels like I'm being with you on your adventure. I love being outdoors. Thanks for being you ☺️😊
I like this guy, he's honest. Its kinda dangerous if you don't have experience dealing with snow storms. Its late April, here north of Montreal we had 11 inches of snow 2 weeks ago, yesterday was 82F. Wild weather swings but we know how to deal with deep snow, mainly don't go into it. Without snow shoes, you can get yourself dead fast. 2 years ago we had a few nights at 40F below zero, it doesn't feel cold, it feels evil. How the deer survive is a mystery, snow 4 feet deep. I wild camped behind my couch.
Thanks for bringing me along with you on your winter over-nighter. I'm too old and infirmed to do this myself, so I appreciate being able to experience it vicariously through your camera lens.
It warms my heart to see other cold weather campers going out on solo adventures. It helps me realize I'm not as crazy as everyone says I am. Keep it up bro. It's never to cold to camp.
I was freezing watching this! Another cracking video, I know it is quite an old one but i am slowly working my way through them in any order and enjoying them all. Of all the survival type videos I have seen somehow you and your way of making the videos make me so much more relaxed and comfortable watching them. Thanks for doing them.
When the beast broke out from the East 2 years ago (when you filmed this great vid) a friend and I were on Exmoor Devon/Somerset border, under 4x4 tarp , with a firepit blazing to the wee small hours, seeing your vid brought some cracking memories, although you are much more organised and deffo a better cook. thanks for waking the sleeping dragon. love all your work to date, stay safe .
As an older guy I find it very heart warming that more and more younger guys, and some gals too, are taking up outdoor activities such as this video portrays. Well done! You have a new sub.
Andy provides an assortment of fantastic bushcraft skills and adventures for all the family to enjoy,if this is your thing.i for one enjoy watching your videos andy, and appreciate your teachings.cant wait for summer I will be attempting my first try at bushcraft.keep going andy these are essential skills and knowledge that we should all know.
You could save a lot of work by cutting the wood in longer pieces which would still drag easily with the sled. Also you can save a lot cutting by burning the long pieces in half and then restack them on the fire as they burn in half. that's an old trick from 45 years of motorcycle camping. Like your videos.
Great video. Very honest and informative. Thank you for sharing. I heard a story about a Boy Scout leader preparing for a winter overnight camp with the boys and their fathers. He was approached by one of the dads who commented that he had never slept in a sleeping bag before . Amazed by the remark, the scout master reassured the father. Where upon the dad again remarked with a grin. “ yea I’ve never slept in a sleeping bag. Tossed and turned in em many times though”. Have a great day, and keep the videos coming.
what i like about kent survival is that you film little mistakes and keep them in when you could edit them out like what most others would do just the things like kindlin and stuff 🖒
Thumbs up!! 👍👍. Nice Vid! I thought I was the only crazy winter camper out there! I've got this down to a science now, but took a few years, and MONEY, to buy my own damn land! WwooooooooHhhhoooooooo!!!
Really enjoyed that.Thanks. Top tip-when it's below zero;keep a proper water bottle(non-leaking variety!) in your jacket whilst awake and in your sleeping bag when sleeping.
I really enjoyed this. I grew up in northern New Hampshire, in a house on the edge of the woods, and enjoyed adventures and misadventures of this sort in my dad's company. Very relaxing, all this attention focussed in the "here and now". But very encouraging, too: if you can do it, why shouldn't I? Thanks for all the trouble it takes to share on video!
Have you thought about putting a scrapped piece of metal behind your fire?Carlisle195 uses one and it acts as a reflector and protection for your fence. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Hey, thank you for watching :) there is some scrap metal near by but Id like to keep the camp as natural as possible... thinking of a rebuild soon too :p
6 years and 740,000 followers later!!!! Never realised you had a beard! Been watching you for 6 months or so , only just thought to look up your old videos ! Gonna have to binge watch all these old ones now !
Really enjoy watching !! Wish I had done more of this !! To all the young people out there ! If you are watching, you must love this !! Get out there and do it while you are still young !! Be safe !!
I hope 51 ain't to old.. Love going in the woods. I spent the summer building a log cabin at one location. Still working on it. I have a few vids posted on it.
Nice camping video. I would have done some things a bit differently. Like taking some hemp rope with me to use to haul long lengths of dead tree to the camp so as to have a lot more wood for heating and cooking. Also, dehydrated veggies as there was plenty of snow would have rehydrated the veggies for the meal. The chorizo is a great touch, plenty of fat and a good source of protein. Can't go wrong with that and especially in the winter, it cannot go bad. Dehydrated eggs along with onion and herbs and the chorizo would make an awesome breakfast too. If letting the fire go out, would keep the water bottle in bed with me. And the reason for the dehydrated veggies is that in case of getting snowbound, one can take a lot more food that way at a lot less weight. I've gone out on a lot of winter camps, my favorite as it is the quietest time to camp. And even did a winter camping honeymoon in northern arizona. not much snow, but that wind and cold was a challenge. So, just wanted to share with you as I've done this before and wanted to share what I know. Peace.
Hey, thanks for watching.. didn't have much time to prep for this one as the snow was quite brief unfortunately.. also the sleeping bag was full of batteries etc lol ATB - Andy
Long ago (about 35-40 years ago) when I was a Scoutmaster, one of our campouts was a long winter weekend in the Blue Mountains in Washington state. I and a couple of other dads taught the kids how to build (and survive in) igloos and snowy conditions. The kids always enjoyed those campouts.... almost as much as the dads did. One time, when the weather and the snow pack were just right we built an igloo that was big enough to sleep ten or twelve kids and two or three dads. These "kids" (now grown men) are now in their early 50's and will never forget those campouts. Now, I don't even like to shovel the sidewalks.
What a luxury. As a soldier. I was given a pup tent half. And no one to buddy up with. so a ground hugger was all I got. ( Tent half with field made stakes .) That was my home. An a artic sleeping bag. No fire. Still was comfy. On my guard post. Yours. That is a Hilton om. I like.
Got into your channel watching more recent vids over the last 2 or so years. Imagine my surprise to click on a 5 year old video to see long hair and a beard!
I remember in 8th grade we got to go up on top of a mountain that was part of a ski Hill. And make snow caves in the large drifts. It was actually so warm the ceiling was dripping onto us. When you form the ceiling make it curved or it will slowly start coming down. When you wake and the ceiling is a couple inches from your snout it makes you want to get the heck out.
Nice one Andy 👌. The bug out truck looked cool driving through the snow. Good idea with the sledge mate, must have made your walk in a hole lot easier not having to carry all your kit. Thanks for sharing Andy. Atb Sconja 👍
Thanks mate, yeah.. was good driving in the snow.. the byways were busier than the roads with 4x4 enjoying the snow haha. pack kept falling off the sledge though haha
I have been bingeing and finally went back to here, he is a different Andy here. Long hair and beard 😮. Same attitude and demeanor, fabulous. It is way too cold to camp for me, 🥶.
When the Beast from the East struck I was "between jobs". I was never more happy to lie in bed all day snuggled up to the cat listening to snow pelting the windows as the heating banged out some serious BTU's.... selfish but true
Many many year ago my friends and I, were camping in the lake district. Bog standard tent and two sleeping bags inside each for us. Woke Up to freezing snow and water bottles. Ended up doing a trek along the valley. Best camping memory, with my mates.
Kent Survival best part I like about your channel is you interact with your subscribers not many do that and that’s awesome. Just order me a condor knife cuz of your videos can’t wait to get it and try it out soon cheers mate
nice.. you're love the condor.. lot of knife for the money, I take it with me all the time now. I love the comments, If people are taking the time to watch my videos and leave a comment I see it as only right to reply :) It is getting harder to keep track of who has said what though, but I do recognise names, I know who my regulars are :) cheers mate. let me know how you get on with the condor
Andy I've been watching your videos for over a year now on a ship I work on thankyou so much Andy this is one of your older videos and I was happy to hear you call our lorne sausage lorne thats an argument in Scotland from all the different shires lol thankyou Andy what a brilliant video in the snow storm
Tips for spices are very good, thanks! I'm from Patagonia, Argentina, and never saw here that type of shelter camping, we only do it in tents. Very interesting videos
You are good at what you do, your camping and cooking.I watch these videos from Canada and America and now yours from the uk keep up the good work ,from Newzealand.
Great vid. Growing up in Canada, winter camping was a must as a youngster and I miss it. Camping at -40 it is easier to stay warm than in then 0 to -5 believe it or not because it is easier to get wet with the warmer temperatures. You can never over pack, there is an old saying, any fool can be uncomfortable.
It helps your water to stay potentially more in liquid form if you put it in your sleeping back, that's if you have a proper seal and good bottle so it does open throughout the night
Hi, this is true but I already had my phone and batteries in with me haha.. it was ok in the end but something to bare in mind for the future, thanks :)
Nice video. I tell you from experience wellies are no good. Okay when you're walking far but p.d.cold otherwise. The best I found for snow are cotton traders "muck boots" I think they're called. Brilliant traction too. I never got cold feet in them. + so comfortable even for long walks. That and 2 pars of 3-tog socks =toasty feet. Those boots are liable to crack on the upper after a little while. No worries! I welded mine with a bit of melted flexible plastic sheeting. So far the weld is holding great, even through all the snow. If bthey crack again sometime I'll weld them again.
Wellington boots, or rubber boots, are widely used in Sweden, Finland and elsewhere in the winter. Regular summer or 3 season, and 'summer fit', wellington boots will not be very good in the cold though. There are special winter wellington boots with liners and insoles. If it is not exetremely cold you could also simply use regular wellington boots of a bigger size than normal and use thicker winter insoles and thicker wool socks. The concept of winter wellington boots is functional but I recommend models with liners and insoles that can be removed and dried separetely, rather than models with fixed lining which are difficult (or impossible) to dry out under field conditions. Some winter wellington type boot manufacturers: vikingfootwear.com/products/men/winter-boots www.nokianfootwear.com/men/ eu.tretorn.com/tretorn/rubber_boots?filter-gender2=men
Just started this video listen to the intro music watching you pull the sled through the snow the Tranquility of the quiet just to peacefulness the beauty in the beginning of this video is why I started watching these in the first place and I realize the more videos people produce the more it changes let's go back to the roots just a quiet peaceful very few words in the video just my two cents hope to enjoy it going to watch all 34 minutes of it thanks for the content
Good video mate. Makes you think with all the gear we have for cold weather camps and all the homeless peeps out there with barely a sleeping bag to call their own.
Thanks chris... yeah, Its a very good point, Its like at festivals, half the people leave all there tents and sleeping bags, wonder what happens to all that... trashed im sure

just a heads up with the holes in the walls it's not just the moss dropping out it's the wood shrinking as it dries out.

I enjoyed your Camp 0ut❕Your camp is real nice. I like how you got it thought out🧠in design.
Thanks Danny... the camp build was quite organic but I am thinking of starting over as you learn a lot the first time around.

The concept of winter wellington boots is functional but I recommend models with liners and insoles that can be removed and dried separetely, rather than models with fixed lining which are difficult (or impossible) to dry out under field conditions.

Thanks John, much appreciated :)
Heart breaking to see every tent, chair or whatever just picked up and skipped. Such a waste as most are new.
What a great fixed camp. That look really great and cosy.

Future tip for water sleep with a bottle in your sleeping bag. Cool video!
