They are attacking the popular in my area now that the ash is all dead ! I dont know if it's the same insect or not ,but it's a really small dark colored worm that in the popular bark !!! I fear it's going to do the popular the same as the ash and locusts!! If so the timber industry will suffer greatly as will the bark shingle outfits !
If anybody has an ash they are attached to, you can spray safari on it every spring to keep the bugs out of it. It's expensive stuff, but it doesn't take much for 1-2 trees. I do about 15 a year.
@LoggerWade From what I’ve seen ash up north seem to get hit harder than ash here in central Ky. Not saying they aren’t killing them here too though sadly they are.
All the ash Is dead here In central Pa., What a shame. When I was 17 I worked for a big tree trimming company I was a ground man for 3 trimmers and I loved It, But we was doing a huge power line job In south Williamsport most of It was on state land and you would not believe the red & white oak and cherry we just cut and left It lay and we couldn't take It and one day I asked a forester that stopped by If I could buy all these logs that we we cut into 8's and 10's and he said nope, I said what will the state do with them and he said let them lay and rot, I shook my head and walked away. They were two and three foot across the butt and crystal clear too.
