Can I Sell for a Profit After Restoring? BMW 740iL e38

- When I bought this car, I knew I had something special. I’ll admit that I spent way more money and time than I wanted to when it came to fixing this car. It quickly went from a “service and repair” to a “mild restoration” This is what happens when I think with my heart instead of my brain. I’m showing you most of what I did with this car, but a small portion of the restoration wasn’t recorded. Like always, I appreciate you guys for watching!

Очень шикарная машина,она продаёться?
Hello, I have a 2001 e38 740il individual, I would like to share some details of the car with you , can you please provide me with an email address to reach you
$2.5k for some struts is heartbreaking, but on another note, I really appreciate how thorough you are. I love seeing older BMWs be restored.
On a car like that I would go the $2500 route. With that low of miles and that clean. Every dollar spent on OE quality parts counts.
heartbreaking? It’s a fking 7 series
2.5k is alot for struts but on a BMW u gonna be using them alot 😂
BS, that struts only cost 150 a pcs
Cause he’s probably getting the stupid oe parts. With the bmw logos and stamped and shit. So they’re 50% over priced
Really smart to do it this way with videos. On C&B, BaT, and other sites, you can’t tell what was really done, except maybe some documentation. Here, you’re providing 100% video. It will go for an added premium.
100 percent agree
Whoever ends up with this car is getting a great deal. It’s great to see someone take such pride in their work.
I have a '96 with the M60 engine, but otherwise identical to this car. The E38 is absolutely my favorite BMW and it's great to see such attention to detail and passion towards this project. Much respect!
Seems like a lot of damage for just 30,000 miles. I understand the Florida heat baking the plastic parts. But good thing you were there to rescue it and make it whole!
Most of the damage seems age and environment related. Failure of rubber is up to use as well as time and this car was likely exposed to salt, either by being by the beach or by driving on salted roads. Seems like the suspension joints failed because the boots failed and let contaminants in, that could definitely happen over 20 years even with only 30k miles. Then you have headliner glue failure from years of temperature swings and plastics failures from UV radiation like the headlight washers. EDC shocks could have been taken out by our roads or the shaft seals failed because of age or environmental reasons and leaked all the fluid out.
Wow, That shop is amazing!! "Wink"
It really is!
Having him make these videos is probably the best marketing you can get for minimum investment on the business side. Not only for his skills as your mechanic but for the shop quality itself.
It’s ok I guess 🙄
Shameful that the content creator doesn't reference the shop he is working in.
For all the funny shorts you Make, I love how you show your skills are top notch as well. Cool project. Best 7 series they ever made IMO.
Thank you!
Your attention to detail is out of this world. Aligning the center wheel badges and hiding the balancing weights. Wow I which I stayed close enough to your workshop!
Dry rot is a helluva thing. Almost everything you replaced was a victim of dry rot.
Second worse after salt infested cars
Just gpt done refreshing an E39 - all of it was rot and age.
Isn’t there a plastic that’s very resistant to dry rot? polyurethane bushings don’t usually degrade I believe
As a fairly fastidious Alpina owner I must applaud your attention to detail and quality workmanship. And that is a seriously beautiful vehicle!
This is my favourite car channel. Jamie is the man, and he’s very easy to understand and has taught me a lot. Kudos to you sir!!!
At this point the whole car is replaced 😂 great content loving it.
The E38 "7" series is the first 7 I could not keep my eyes off of. I have never owned one but it's always on my mind. First close up of the car I had t squeeze by It length wise it was in a parking garage what a detailed veiw.
Love your work, the e38 and also your entusiasm not to let your potential buyer "have a nightmare" about fixing the car, I subs
Great job, nice video! In 1993 I bought a new E38 730i V8 and it was the most beautiful car I ever owned!!!
The level of attention to detail is amazing. Thank you for all the extra time you spent in making this video, editing and uploading to UA-cam.
I wish I could have a mechanic who is as thorough as you.
Amazing work
Love the 7 E38 and it was and still is one of my favorite cars. Your show has sparked my interest in older BMW'S and your repairs and knowledge take the "SCARRY " away. Great job.
New subscriber here. That was really fantastic. Short, focused, great editing and presenting. Well shot too ( good lighting, shot choice and importantly, even the macro shots were in focus ). This is a very practical project that we can all learn from. And the enthusiasm shines through, which is important for motivating us viewers to tackle similar projects. All the best and greetings from Prague, CZ
Sreten:
Finally a worthy opponent!
Our E38 battle will be legendary!!!
i believe sreten will win although jamie is a wizard in his own right. sreten sold it for around 25,000 USD/ 22,000$ euro thats alot of fricking money also he went with h and r lowering springs so whatever jamie does he will be fine on the front suspension!
@@startingtech3900 Imagine if they collab. They could fix every BMW on earth
@@ivanjovanovic362 two of my favorite automotive youtubers at the moment, complete wizards, i fix and sell BMW too but they are on another level both highly entertaining my watch time is staggering for both channels lol
Do you have the link for Streten's channel? I'd like to check it out
@@tgw230 @M539restorations
I have so much respect for this type of work. I would love to do such a project myself, but it's really difficult to go the extra mile like you do. Top job man! 👍🏻
I like how you show a project from start to finish. Unlike some channels that have a million different projects that they never finish
Thanks so much for this video. It pains me to forbid myself to buy an E38 because I know they're a money pit. The level of love you went to restore this car is unparalleled. I'm grateful you let us share this experience with you. Keep crushing bud!
never seen a mechanic so detailed amazing to see
I had a 2000 735i (V8) in the UK from 2006 - 2018 (my fifth 7 series) and sadly part exchanged it for my "retirement car" a 520d Luxury. Mine had 130,000 miles by the time I sold it and it was in far better condition than this one. True the bushes and similar were tiring, but it passed its rigorous annual UK MoT tests without work and had none of the dire deterioration seen on this example. Repairs during my ownership included an ABS sensor (damaged by jet cleaning), an alternator, a rusty fuel tank, and some bumper damage when I was rear ended by a moped and more minor items - not bad for 12 years. The only thing wrong with it when px'ed was a needed another CD drive for the sat' nav' (a ~$10k option when new!), as the first replacement ($70 on ebay) failed after three years.
Certainly the finest car I have ever owned, and one of the best I have ever driven, whoever gets this lovingly restored example is in for a treat, but $25,000! I only paid ~$8000 for mine in 2006 when it was just six years old.
This car is going to run and look smooth like it came out of production. It’s good to see these classics getting love. New owner will appreciate your work.
Literally thee nicest bmw 7 series. It’s refreshing to see someone putting it all back to oem spec without cutting corners 👍
Truly one of best looking large sedans ever ! That era of 740s were long, lean, and agile looking. Luxury without the bloated “land yacht” look. Back when BMW styling was truly timeless. Great restore !
The ultimate 7 series ever made 😍 ❤ ❤ 💜 😍 ❤ 💜
This was so fun to watch! I was a gas jockey in the 80s. I'm 64 y.o. now and as a young woman it was a really fun if smelly job! I've ALWAYS loved cars.
The best 7 series BMW has ever made.. 30k miles and everything is broken or fallen apart.. love the video and now a subscriber!!
One of the most beautiful BMW's of all time.
Damn Jaime you just blue balled me 😂, absolutely LOVE the series
🥶😂
This is the first time I watch one of your videos and after only 2 minutes, I knew I have stumbled on a really good channel that I can add to my favorites! Needless to say I subbed & liked! Keep up the great work!
If I ever decide to restore, you’re the man doing that job mate 👍
I have a 2001 myself and I’m very happy that your doing this as I’m tryna get it up and running again
I had a 2001 740I, it was such smooth drive at high speeds felt like cops can't see mr.
My uncle had this BMW Individual dual color 750iL back in 2001 and i was in love with it! best 7 series ever! still looking to find one but mostly they’re not low mileage and costly to rebuild.
Love to see people like you with your passion! So inspiring! I’d so get this 7 series like this if I lived near you! Keep up the great work!

That was my car in 2011-2013 in Texas then, Minnesota. Best car ever. I was feeling excited every time I turned on the engine.
30,000 MILES! WOoooooooooo! Love watching these vids. Great job sir!
I don't know what to say, but you teared my heart with this excellent and wonderful work. I hope you will always be successful.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Greatest car ever built! I own two - a 2001 740i Sport and a 2001 740IL. Love them both.
That's a beautiful car. I owned a 97 740il - Loved driving that car. It handled remarkably well. Wish I still had it.
Awesome E38 restoration, definitely a classic and timeless BMW 👍
Been waiting for this one for a while 👍🏼👍🏼
Car looks great, good job J
IMPRESSIVE ! I wish I had a 'one stop, shop all' parts bin, but that's the hardest part, time. Well done !
Bro you’re a master at this wow
Outstanding Video! Love the fact that you are so detailed oriented.
Yay! Can’t wait to see and bid on this on the auction. Please post auction link here, and on your valve cover video
I love this approach to the car. I have an e38 myself and I try my best to take care of it. Gives a well-deserved like and subscribes to the channel👍👍👍
This is the greatest BMW ever made in my book. Followed by the e46
I own an e38 series since 2007. It’s been mainly in storage for the last 5 years but I have a hard time parting from it. It’s so much more car than anything out there. One of the best bmw designs ever
My ocd is so happy with these videos.. so perfectly restored car
Love to see restoring this.
Havin’ this car around is profitable surprise by itself man , well done 👍🏻
Starting to look good! Great work so far.
Great work! A small tip from across the Atlantic ocean; I remember these cars also have hydraulic lines running into the EDC shocks. Not shure if it was only the rear shocks, but to check it takes about 3 seconds 😎
Wow! Great work! I pray that I can find a mechanic as proficient as you when I need one! Respect.
This has been my favorite BMW forever.
Just did this with a 500$ e39 528i 5pd. My wife thought i was an idiot but the car looks/drives like new.
@japanwatchconnection nope. #2.
clear video, clear voice over and safety glasses. really appealing vids to watch. oh, and great, clean shop too.
I am just now seeing this and did not know this car was sold on Cars and bids. You have done an extremely good job restoring this automobile. If I had the space for a 2nd or 3rd car, something like this would be it.
I'm a mercedes guy but I really enjoyed this video. Great quality
Jamie, I love your channel! Watching your videos makes me want to buy a car off you, wish you were closer south and I’d only get my vehicle serviced in your shop
thank you for restoring this 🕊🕊
Love the way you show us stuff and how you explain 😎
I appreciate that!
Good god man. This was a fresh little update. Nice attention to detail. Well done buddy.
This video is really satisfying to watch. Thank you for the video.
Man, some quality content you got here. Love it. Hello from Russia, good luck 👊
love your videos, keep them coming, that 740 though its freaking beautiful.
Amazing job! I wish all sellers pay that much attention to detail, even though it transfers into a higher price.
Excellent quality video!
So satisfying to watch!
Amazing video and incredible work.
Nice to see some love on the older bmw!
Bravo to this man and the great work!!!
E38's are the BOMB! Gorgeous car. Just subscribed.
Hi Jamie, I've got a 740il as well. Same sort of repairs. Mine is a '98 and the next project is front end and brakes. Only just over 100,000K's, interior is superb. Exterior paint is very good, with a couple of bird poo blemishes that you can see in the right light. I replaced the plugs and fuel injectors when I had the valve covers off, big difference in performance. Cheers, Aussie Rob.
hello from South Africa 🇿🇦. You are an amazing man and what a beautiful workshop. Beautiful work bud.
subbed.
Brave man, I know the car well and it’s beautiful. I have a friend that’s a long-term BMW mechanic and he loves that vehicle, but said he would never own one. Upkeep and pasts horrendous.
Wow amazing work bud. Love your work. Great car.
You are very thorough. Great job.
i didnot notice how 16 mins passed. love it ...love it.
Its a great car, hard to find in good condition. I hope you decide to replace the struts with the original ones. Great work!
spoiler he said 2-3 weeks i dont think he will but i could be wrong!
I love the Way you do the things on the car.
I have the same view of details.
I Wish i could buy the car from you.
I saw one of these yesterday while taking a walk in my complex, it looks amazing, with nice proportions. The one I saw looks like it has moved in a while
Just popped in to say I love this series, Ive got a 2000 740i sport. Its ROUGH. Any chance you're gonna do anything on the ABS module? btw you're lucky you've got no dead pixels on that dash
Next video might show something with the ABS module 😉👊
@@JamiesGarage1 Yaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!
Paios, I have a 2000 E39 540 and I did the pixel fix myself - not a bad job at all, so get it done!

Company called Fixel that fix that
Beautiful shop man!👑
Fantastic video. Nice pace, with the separate detailed videos.
I totally agree with you: This BMW E38 model must be the most beautiful car ever designed by BMW - and one of most stunning cars ever designed. Good job there, Jamie!
E30+ E60 also😭❤️
Yeh not many technologies like today lol
@japanwatchconnection BMW’s plan after E38 (just like Mercedes of that era) was to start to cater to the masses by cheapening their design cycles and relying on tech gimmicks instead of driving experience refinement. And as you’ve noted, it worked. Both companies became incredibly profitable by making huge lineups of soulless, derivative status symbols.
@japanwatchconnection …those are the facts. Mercedes recently announced it would pivot away from that mass market strategy, in fact. It paid off for them, but the cost was creating inferior products for the past two decades.
This is so satisfying to watch
Just found your channel Jamie, what a fabulous car, been looking at 540i of around 2001 and few and far between now, this 740 you have here is absolutely wonderful, such a great looking vehicle and so much better than the latest BMWs for looks alone!
Well done on this one, look forward to hearing how you got on with sale!
Well that was quite cathartic to watch you great work!
What a pro. Great job!
Love the content man! Keep it up!
You make it look so easy awesome work
I would sent my BMW across the world to his shop cuz I live in the UK your work is amazing
Entertaining, informative, and great restoration. Subbed 👍
Nice! That was my first Bimmer in 2001 and I've been driving 7's ever since.
