Damn. I drove a 1.6 Diesel (no turbo, like 85 or 90 hp) and that one was hella lot of fun to drive. You could go to the limit of the summer tires (literally). It was a 5 door though, 5lock tires and a 6 speed manual... Getting a bit sad because I totalled it...

2zz swap that. 1.8 190bhp Yamaha Head Tuned engine. A fairly easy swap compared to most you've done.

i have owned a 2zz for over 10 years and its very reliable off track without a baffled sump.
Only americans that couldnt use a manual broke them by changing to 3rd instead of 5th.....

TRD supercharger is for 1.5 yaris ts and 1.8, not for 1.33

Most check engine light issues on that motor is the vvti sensor located at the top, 20 dollar, 5 minute plug n play fix.... (:

I bought my 03 Corolla with 299,999kms (This is where early 00's Toyotas liked to stop) as a practical daily, started to modify it, and now I am absolutely in love. One of the only Corollas with a custom build 3" lift kit and a rally bumper around 😂 Lets race!
That's what makes you guys so lovable. You work on the cars, nobody thinks about and it's so enjoyable. It not always needs to be the GTRs, GTIs, Audi RS, AMG, M-Power or big blocks. Thank you two and your mates for this great entertainment.

been trying to get my buddy with a Scion xB to swap its 1NZ-FE to a 2ZZ-GE for years. it's so incredibly underpowered, and that's coming from a dude that dailies a 100whp Subaru. he's finally looking for Corolla XRS's/Matrix XRS's/Vibe GT's to pull the engine and six speed out of, as of a couple of weeks ago. the Matrix's and Vibes are a lot more available btw, and the same drivetrain. the Vibe GT's are also incredibly cheap, comparably, because Pontiac.

An LS engine swap in the us is doable cheap if you are happy with 400hp, id like to see them do something actually australian for a change tbh. A barra ford or a commodore done well. Also humble.... The money they spend on shitbox cars is nuts, they probably have more in the mira than swapping an LS into something will cost. They are at the stage where they can and do do big bucks builds with freebie parts handed out like candy.
For the love of God, you better put a 2ZZ in that thing. Same engine in the Celica and the tivo
At the very lease a 2ZR and throw a turbo on it. There are factory engine mounts to be able to swap in one.

In South Africa we got a version of this called the Yaris Ts. 1.8l 100kw I think. But that 2zz would be crazy!
20V 4A-GE engines have become very rare and way too expensive.
A supercharged 4A-GZE may be an easier and cheaper find. Plus, it's already built for boost, so you can just chuck the supercharger and put in a turbo.

Technically yes, but there are 4 wheels driving... the mind boggles. This is a joke btw.
all the time, without actually physically disconnecting (which is not made to happen in general) a drive shafts. 4WD is when you can stop the front drive shaft from turning and put it in high range/low range and each axle is controlled INDEPENDENTLY of each other by the transfer case. so recap, AWD is power to all 4 wheels all the time (some cars you can split the power to the front-40/60 or 30/70, some setups are FWD biased or RWD biased) Get it? if not, go to google.

They had a 4wd version of the MK1 in Japan. Yaris is known as a Vitz in Japan. Also known as an Echo in some countries.

$3000 AUD is about on par for a Black Yaris in Australia. There's only two cheaper cars in the entire country right now, one that has been in a front end collision and another with no clear coat on the roof or bonnet.
Can't quite apply North American pricing to the Australian market. The SS Commodore is sold for an absolutely insane amount in N/A but are cheap as chips in AU.

and I'm a Toyota guy, please don't let this thing suck after its mods are done. the only thing on this car that it has to cheer about is the coil packs, which are usually salvaged/butchered to compliment mods on other cars with slightly more respectable engines, ie. 3SGE, etc. I just hope these boys don't do to this car what it did to its predecessor (the Starlet) and make a mockery of it...
Same here. I had a 5-door for about 5 years and it really grew on me, and I still smile when I see one on the street. I replaced it with a 5-door 1.33L XP130.II about 2.5 years ago.
to be honest the 1nz had the potential to replace the starlet engine that toyota didnt pursue probably with the japanese economy and all not being that great
