Can't beat tha Turk for all around goodness. Want a sure thing? Getcha a Turk product! You won't regret it. Look no further, the value is there. Even Longbranch, which has been dissed quite a bit by reviewers is a good bottle. Filtered through mesquite wood; I'm on my 3rd bottle. Gettin' it for $24 bucks here in Florida. I highly recommend at that price point. Proud to have it on my shelf.
Absolutely , WT just keeps putting out great stuff at a good price . Doesn't hurt that I think Jimmy Russell is a national treasure . Going to be a sad day when we loose that man .
I also agree that Longbranch gets way too much crap . Sub 30 dollars it's a buy for sure . I think what hurt it most is when it was originally priced at around 40 - 45 . As an ex Floridian , how is hunting in Florida these days .
I call the Drunken Susan the Wonderful Wacky Whirling Ouija Wheel of Whiskey. To me you need a KC pick to get the most of their rye, Overholt 114 Rye is what I buy on the low end from Beam. But there are no stinkers in that group. Plenty of good rye at nice prices.
For sure my friend . As always taste preferences I think come down to so many things that we are probably unaware of it would be hard to calculate . Like favorite pir when you were a kid , the smell of your first girlfriend ( or whatever someone m as y be into ) , nostalgic pizza place , favor dessert , ect , ect , ect . So I realize my list is purely subjective . But I hope if nothing else I can be a minor guide to someone new to the whiskey experience.
Shocker with the Knob Creek finishing that low. The top two are just like my top two in affordable bourbons. Wondered if the OF Rye still had that interesting banana note found in their bourbons. I may just pick up the WT101 Rye and the OF Rye and see which one is my favorite. Great Budget Rye War! But when OCS Limited Edition Small Batch Artisanal Rye hits the shelves all bets are off.
🤣🤣🤣 For sure and yeah the OF Rye does have the banana note but it's very mild in this , the other notes are much more dominant to me .
I was pretty confident that the Wild Turkey was going to win it.
I may have to recreate this showdown for myself later this evening. I have all of these on my shelf except the Rittenhouse, but I have the Elijah Craig Rye which is really really close in flavor and should make a suitable substitute. I always trash the Old Forester Rye and have never put it in a blind tasting,.... so that may turn out to be interesting.

Great video, very helpful as I'm starting to get into the ryes. What are the new glasses that you're using?
First off thank you Lou , very happy you enjoyed it . Second the glass is a Libbeys glass . These are not the " Official Libbeys Tasting Glass of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail " or whatever.... but the shape is nearly identical without the markup from Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
Libbey 9217 Circa Whiskey Glass
It is slightly different than the Kentucky Bourbon Trail glasses, but not by much.
Unfortunately I can only find them available by the case, so unless you want to pay a bunch for shipping you may have to contact a restaurant supply store if you want to get some.
$50 for a case of 12, as opposed to $25-30 for 4 of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail glasses though,.. so NOT a bad deal.

@@StillLivinginthewoods - So I got mine through Amazon . Got mine for 35 for 6 glasses . It looks like that deal may still be available but , look at past orders is weird on Amazon . The name of the specific glasses I own on Amazon are Libbey Craft Spirits Single Malt Glasses .
@@WhiskeyWars Yep, just found them, they're still there for $35 for 6 of them.
Maybe you can set up an affiliate link,.. it seems to work well for a lot of UA-camrs.
Libbey makes sturdy glasses at a decent price, there is a good reason that restaurants use them more than any other brand. But they do have a bad habit of releasing the same glass under several different names.
My favorite rocks glass from them is also sold by them as The Ultimate Tequila Glass and The Craft Spirits Tequila Glass,... go figure.
@@StillLivinginthewoods - I will say that these current glasses feel a little thin . No issues with them , but I am use to a heavy rocks glass in the past . To be fair , Glens always feel thin and brittle as well .
