Bought the 1.75 liters Ancient Age.. Plastic bottle, $20 it was pretty good, was not all that impressed but good budget Bourbon.

I’m new to bourbon but recently tried Benchmark. I wasn’t sure if my taste buds were deceiving me or not.i couldn’t believe it tasted so good and was so inexpensive. I thought maybe I’m a cheap bourbon guy. 😂

Benchmark Full Proof is the best bang for the buck bar none! For just $20-25 it could beat anything on this list.

I can definitely taste differences between bourbons, but I'm not really capable of naming off tasting notes. So comparing them is really tough for me. I've tried both neat, and I mixed both with root beer. Ancient Age turned out better in the mixer than Blanton's, and that's not just because of price. AA had a distinct vanilla flavor come through and made the root beer taste like it was a roor beer float with vanilla icecream. The Blanton's was nice too, but the deeper flavors from the aging overpowered the vanilla I got on the AA. Neat though, the AA just feels anemic. The Blanton's has a better mouthfeel and more overall flavor. (even if I can't describe it.) My verdict is that I bought the Blanton's for the pretty bottle collection, and I'm not rich enough to buy it anymore. But the AA might become a bottle I keep buying.

I eventually sourced this from a UK supplier, however, was really disappointed in this bourbon, I've got another 4 bottles of this that will likely go untouched...Eagle Rare is far superior

I've never had a better bourbon and coca cola than with Rowan's Creek. I don't usually mix good whiskey with cola, but this combo is really really good.

Comrade, a very fair review. I quite like this but it lacks depth thanks to the addition of other ingredients in mash. The background is useful as well, because it is difficult to overcome the foundations and the foundations here still influence the product. It is like pop music - it can be enjoyable, sometimes quite interesting but it will always be pop. That doesn't mean t is worthless it just means you need to take it as it is. Out of interest what are your favoured ryes for an Old Fashioned (may not be 'best' but ones you enjoy most), or do you regard this as desecration of good Rye? ryes

Not a big whiskey drinker but Ancient Age was always the family's go to brand for the holidays. Mixes well with anything or straight up. Had my first sip back in the 60s when I was a kid and still grab a bottle every Christmas!😃

If you are going to delute your whisky then the budget stuff like the Evans, Jimmy or the Kirkland stuff from COSTCO is the way to go as it is going to mellow out. Mixing a high price sippin whisky seems to me like a sin.

I drink Evan Williams black as my go to budget whiskey. That said, I do like Jim beam. It has a sweetness to it that lingers. Sorry but Jim is good for the dollar. Me personally, I would take Even Williams white label all day long.

Atypical or typical?

I picked it up for 10 bucks yesterday at Kroger

This was my first 60 dollar bottle alst year and blew my wig clean back. Still trying to get even 80 percent of that in another bottle. bakers was good, mckenna was good. 46 is a blast. None are in the same tier.

I've yet to have a scotch that was better at 14+ than it was at ten. Some of the islays (Ardbeg, Bunnhanain, Caol Isla) are better at 8 even.

What's teh sourcing place? I've been into bourbon for a bit but am missing some common knowledge stuff apparently. Blantons? I feel like that's a name I hear. "that's just Blantons mixed with xyz"

Evan Williams is just an all around great whiskey for your dollar.

Amazingly yummy for the price!!! Can sip or mix it. Smooth and syrupy! Very good.

What I did to improve its taste was use my cocktail smoker and smoke a two finger pour then add it back into the bottle.

Do you like the Jack Daniels bonded rye more?

Way better than the MM French Oak which about the same price 38 too 39 for MM cast at my liquor store here in Tx

When someone claims they like rye whiskey and then they say they don't like Rittenhouse rye that tells me right away they're a fool and have no idea what they're talking about. There's a reason Wine enthusiast gave this a 95/100 and Distiller gave this a 92/100 and that reason is it's a very tasty rye whiskey and at $25/$30 a bottle It's a buy all day.🥃
