Our New Discovery at Land Rover Owners Event 3-21-2021 Sleek Mud Off-roading

- We joined the 3/21/2021 Land Rover owners event in Asheville NC for a day of epic fun in the mud. We highly recommend this event for folks that want to learn and gain confidence, using their Land Rover’s capabilities. I would not recommend this event for people that look to drive aggressively or for rock crawlers. This is expedition style off-roading. As slow as possible, fast as necessary. Remember, you need to drive it home!
I love seeing these vehicles here instead of mall parking lots.
Problem is they're built for mall parking lots. The D5 wouldn't last doing a Camel Trophy run in South America or Madigaskar.
@@myrongaines5542 with that lousy reply I wouldn’t even trust you going off-road even on a smooth dirt road, just because new land rovers are unibody and have all independent suspension doesn’t mean they are completely useless off-road
Its amazing how a Good Set of Off Road Tyres transforms and instills much more respect for any 4x4 !! D5 Looks almost acceptable with these tyres on and gains more respect seen cutting the Mustard here !!!- Still not sure i would be seen in a D5 though !!

Great videos. I just subscribed, I got a Disco on order, hopefuly it will be delivered. in December - Jan. I have a question. Do you have an auxiliary battery system and fridge in the back? I would love to see.a video. of how the setup is, there is very little info on things like this for a Disco 5.
Second thing I wanted to mention .
I had the new Defender for a week end, took it for a camping trip.If need your back seats, the trunk space in the Defender, while big on paper, is unusable, it is all on vertical. So you do need to carry most things outside, and that is a bad thing in my book. It is already a tall vehicle, and more weight up top does not help at all, things hanging outside. become noisy, more risks of theft, things exposed to the elements.. Discovery is a much more practical car.
Off road- Defender has a better departure angle, but you can mitigate this with skill. It does feel a lot more solid, flexes less than a Disco. The interior. of the defender. is more suitable for off road use. But if you travel with more than 2 people in the car, the Disco is the better option.We will travel with our kid, so, for me, . the disco is the more practical car.
So for bigger than 2 families, those looking at the defender should give the Disco a chance as well.
We don’t have a second battery in the disco as we don’t overland with it. Just off-roading.
We do have a fridge in the defender but we got a Jackery 1500 to power it

Would you say the Discovery has the same capability as the Defenders?
Great question, and I wish the answer was simple. Even with exact same build, there will be some differences mainly tied to the overall size of the vehicle (Defender is smaller) and center of gravity. Honestly, the driver is more important than it all because I’ve seen loaded Defenders getting stuck on obstacles that an experienced driver can clear easily.
If you’re thinking which one to get, I would focus on your actual needs and not a survey or video of you know what I mean...
@@afterthelandroverexperience thanks for the reply! For my needs a Discovery would be more than adequate. I was just curious about how the Disco compared to the Defender off-road because I know the Land Rover built the Defender to be their ultimate off-road product. You’re right an experienced driver is more important than the vehicle.
