REVISED 7-22-19 HERE • Video
Thank you so much for posting this my man! You just saved my van, my sanity, and my marriage. This had been driving me nuts, and all the pictures I found showed the wrong relays. I can't thank you enough and hope you have a blessed day brother!
Quick update: Called Toyota and they had AC relay for $114, then called Advance Auto Parts and their price was $14. Just bought this relay at Advance Auto Parts and it's working perfectly. Saved $100 and really happy about it 😃
Thank you sooooooo much!!!! You saved us over $1000 in air conditioning repairs!! It was only the relay fuse!!! God bless you!!!
You sir...are the man. Fixed my compressor issue just by swapping the relay with the one for the horn. Both horn & compressor work now. I plan to recharge system as rear AC is not as cold as front. Thank you very much!! 👍
Really appreciate you posting this video. BTW you did a really good job in laying out the steps simply and clearly. I appreciate all of the folks who post DIY videos like this but yours may have been the very first one I've ever viewed that didn't require that I hop back and forth from start to middle to end etc to get all the relevant info and sequencing after watching it the first time. Well done my friend! I am like #510. Go ahead and give yourself a raise to at least 121%!
Just followed these directions with my 2004 sienna. Worked perfectly. Thank you sir for the post. Saved me some good money!
you are welcome, glad I could help :)
Thank you for this video. I have wasted so much money on such a simple issue, but not anymore. Thanks to you.
akintayo7
One of the best article I have ever seen
Mr. Stewart thanks, my a/c in my sienna wasn't blowing cold. The shop wanted 200 just to check the system.
thanks! I finally found my A.C fuse, Problem solved. Great help
Thank you for your easy and great explanation for this fix. You should do all You Tube videos.
Will this apply if I have air blowing but it is not cold? My freon was just replaced the end of last season and it just isn't cold air at all.
this works like a charm on my 2004 sienna, thank you
A sincere thank you for your video and clear direction. My problem was the relay, a quick fix resolved with your video.
excellent
Really did it. Easy as pie. Thanks man you saved me a bundle
I had the issue of no Ac and won't take fluid. I replaced the relay and didn't need to do the wire trick. 👍🏻👍🏻
Relay was 16.99 at AutoZone.
If your ever in California I'll buy you a beer.
A/C clutch wasn't engaging, so I put a gauge on it and it was in the red (thought it was going to be low) After a few bad words I GTS (Googled that shit). I switched relays and that compressor kicked right in. At first the horn didn't work, then all a sudden It did. Relay going bad I guess. Thank
I love it man, you beat many of the people on youtube I hate the bla bla bla and no action, I love it right to the point, like it needs to be
get it fixed?
This absolutely works! Thank you.
Thank you for great info Sir....God Bless.
Really appreciate the videos to help everyone !
Thank you so much ! Bravo and 4 thumbs up for this video,
I liked your clear solution to the A/C charging issue. On my 2011 Sienna, the rear vent does not have any air coming out, and also the rear vent does not blow any heat. Any suggestions/videos to watch would help.
Holy shit! I live in SC, it gets HOT here in summer. I haven't had a.c. in my van for 4 years. Every time we thought we had the $ to fix it, something else came up, so we suffered through the heat. While pregnant, with newborns, young kids, scorching hot. It was miserable to go anywhere for FOUR years. And I think I just fixed it, in 5 minutes, for free, thanks to your tip about the fuse! Its chilly out right now, so maybe its just blowing cold because of that. Will see tomorrow when it warms up some for sure. Im gonna be so pissed if I suffered for 4 years over a damn fuse!
Sarah Reason ...so what happened?
Marjurie Castaneda Still no air :( For our van, it isn't a blown fuse. My compressor needs to be replaced.
Sarah Reason oh.. sorry to hear that. .
great video and welll explained. New things to learn everyday from generous people!!!
glad you got it fixed
I only see three slots on my pressure switch wire harness on my 2007, what should I do?
Carson Lochridge I have only three slots also. Does anyone know which ones to jump. 2005 Avalon.
Good advice. In my 2005 Sienna, low freon was my problem. Thus, as you pointed out, the compressor would not come on until either there was enough freon to satisfy the switch or I jumpered the connector. $18 later, i'm sitting in cold air again. I just hope it doesn't leak out. It was getting not as cool over the last several days but I suppose just a little more leaked out to keep it coming on at all. BTW, those "fuses" you swapped are relays. :-)
yeah you probably have a leak but freon is cheap. I say fuse because the word relay confuses so many people. But yeah. A can of freon is $4.88 at walmart and your system should only take 2 max. A can of pag oil will help as well. Glad it worked for you and thanks for the feedback.
Thsnks for thd strsight up vid. Is the 2008 sienna relay or fuse in same spot?
Dear sir I have a 2012 highlander my Ac light steady green but no Ac and the air is still on previously Ac start after some time but now it is keep throwing normal air I checked personally almost everything like compressor is engaging and Freon is full may be the Ac switch is bad or should I put Freon in high side
It is the relay that failed in my case. I replace it for $7 and works since 6 months ago.
thank you Jeff, very helpful, worked perfect.
Good deal! Glad you got it working again!
Ours is a 2008 Sienna...so I'm not sure if it's the same. Since right after the 3 year warranty ran out, we've had a problem where the AC just goes off and won't go back on. Sometimes if we press the AC button repeatedly it will go back on. The mechanic found a leak in the AC line over the rear wheel and fixed it, but that did not fix the problem. Now he says he tested the system and it's low on coolant. At one point he replaced a switch or relay...I can't remember which. I think he said there were several it could be and he just took a guess. Nothing has lasted. Any advice?
Thank you for this video. I tried using AC Pro to recharge but it read full. I followed your instructions and disconnected the pressure switch and followed your instructions and all went well. Put a full can of AC Pro (12 OZ) in and did get some AC but gauge on call still reads undercharged. I looked for the AC relay but could not find it on my car which is a 2000 Toyota Sienna. I read on line there was none for my car and it was part of the AC Amplifier. I don't have a rear AC unit in this car. Should I replace the amplifier? Should I use more ACPro? Thanks
more freon, and send me a pic of the relay to jeff@fetv.xyz - let's see what it looks like
So I have a Toyota Siena 2004 van. It's blowing what looks to be like snow on the front dash air vents. Anyone know what this means ?
Thanks for this great video
THANKS FOR YOUR POST... WORK PERFECT ...GOD BLESS YOU !
lol, it was hot today... glad it helped you get the ole ac cooking again.
I have a 2010 sienna. It has 3 relays not 4.? What to do?
thanks for your tips
Good explanations awesome
FYI In the 04 the Relay that matches the AC Relay (in the position shown in video) is the one for the Defog NOT the Horn. The Horn Relay is a completely different unit.
thank you!
I tried it but no go on the compressor and the ac gage is on theres area
I wish I watched this video before buying a can of refrigerant. I removed horn fuse just like it said this this video and placed it where AC fuse must be and my AC started blowing cold air 😃
lol, I hear ya. Freon at walmart is $4.88 per can
Thank you works!!
thanks for the tip
My connection modle is deffernt I have 3 contact not 4 like in vedio
2007 avalon what shold I jamb
What do you do with the pressure switch? Leave it jumped like that? Or do you remove the jump after you've got the AC working.
yes, reconnect it when your done getting a can of freon in it, when there is no freon in the system, the pressure switch will not let the system run, ie the high output fan and the compressor. The system needs freon in it to actually come on and work. it keeps you from burning your compressor up for a lack of freon
i thought u fill at low side not high.
I’ll give it a try...
Have a toyota crown ac is on but only hot air is released. Have changed AC computer, changed the compressor. Changed pressure switch but no change. What can be the issue kindly assist..
might be your climate control switch itself, do you have a green or any color light on your ac button?
Do we put back on the ac harness after it starts blowing cold air?
yes
Hi There! Do you know how to fix the temperature control of my 2004 Sienna? The heat only works on the drivers side, but the passenger side and rear blows cold air.
sure don't, sorry
Sounds like a blend door actuator issue
Was so excited about this but my clutch plate isn't engaging when I turn on the ac or jump it as you showed. The clutch plate on these models should be spinning right?
did you replace the relay yet?
@@breakfreetv I tried the two wires and switch the horn relay with the AC relay and it didn't work
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you for kicking some A$$... well done.
that work thanks
so are you saying the clutch on the compressor is not pulling in is that why you change the relay
no, the factory relays are shit and go bad, always change relay first - if your horn works just switch the relays out to check that first, if relay is good (because your horn worked - and you replaced the ac relay with the horn relay) but clutch and ho fan still dont come on, then follow the next steps to recharge - the clutch will not engage if you are low on freon.
The refrigerant goes on the low side (3:00 min on video)
yes, I mis-spoke
I was able to get a whole can of Freon in while the wires were in the switch, but after I took wires out and hooked up the switch that is when the compressor would only run for a sec then off for 15sec then on foe a sec. it put out cold air when adding Freon with wires in switch. can you leave the wires in?
did you switch your horn relay out with the ac relay yet? that does not sound normal, if you didnt do that try it and see what it does. if it does the same thing then try a can of pag oil and run it for a day with the wires jumped.
yes I tried switching the horn relay and it did the same thing. what is pag oil and you say its okay to leave the wires in for a day?

you can get it anywhere (autozone etc) but walmart is the cheapest
this is the oil for your compressor, there is a friction sensor that could also be holding you up, not uncommon for this to happen maybe 10% of the time. But yes, just add the oil can just like you did the freon, it's got a little freon in it as well, and let it run for an hour clicking on and off and see if that works. If your compressor is going bad, leaving it jumped for a while wont hurt it anymore than it already is. jump the wires and drive around for a while.
thank you for all your help. by the way, are you a mechanic?
The "AC fuse" and "Horn fuse" mentioned in this video are actually mini-RELAYS and not fuses.
correct
genious! thank you man!
Thanks for the insight Jeff. My ac runs cold intermittently. Swapped and tested mg clt and horn relays both fine but intermittent cooling still. Ohmed the pressure switch and I have only one set of contacts closed. Shouldn't both contacts be closed? Jumped the pressure switch as you say and fan turns on but compressor is still intermittent with intermittent cooling. My mechanic said compressor needs to be replaced... Is there anything else I can try? Thanks a bunch!
did you recharge it yet?
No but wouldn't low pressure only affect the pressure switch? I jumped it out and the compressor intermittently still would not turn over.
B Smith try a oil charge - let me know
It works
But what do you do with the pressure switch? Leave it jumped like that? I have read the forums you are speaking of and have replaced the MG CLT fuze with a brand new one. That did not fix my issue. I have a can of AC Pro R134 and some wire. What do I need to do first? Try and fill it, or assume it wont fill and jump the switch and fill it?
+CHINPAZO no, unjump it after you get a can in. I just switched my horn fuse with ac, same rating, 20$ dif
+Jeff Stewart I have a 2004 - hoping it is the same set up. what kind of wire can you use to jump the switch? how do you know if the compressor is working? I have some wire but it is not automotive wiring
CHINPAZO any piece of wire will do or even a paperclip. you switch will have 4 wires - 2 are for the compressor and 2 are for the high speed fan,
which port do you hook the ac can up to? the high or low
+CHINPAZO low, I mispoke and said high, but its the low side
My symptoms are what you describe, but the gage that came with the AC Pro is in the red. Should I still try your method? In the red means too much freon I assume?
replace the relay first, or switch the horn relay out with the ac relay and see what it does
I actually switched out the relay with the horn relay and later replaced the ac relay with a new one before I tried the freon/gauge step.
and what's happening, is your compressor or h.o. fan running with ac on?
Hmmm, not sure how to check that. But from watching some videos, it looks like the AC clutch is not spinning.
Jeff, what do you mean, strip the wires?
the jumper wires - the two little pieces of wire that you use to jump the switch, you can use almost any type of wire to do this with. *do not cut or strip ANY wires on your vehicle*
Wow thanks Jeff! I'm glad I asked. I was just going to cut the existing wires and re-attach them. So I'll just buy new wires and put them on right?
Everything worked good until I took wires out and reconnected switch, the compressor runs for one second then stops for 15sec then runs for 1sec again. Replaced relay with fan, no change. Any ideas?
when you jumped the switch and while it was running for a sec and then off, did u hook your freon can up?
if not, then jump switch again - *after* connecting your freon to recharge port. have that freon on tap ready to get sucked in, even for one second at the time and the compressor should come on and stay on after a few 1 second blasts.
if that works, i'd advise you to add one can only and also a can of pag oil. you should see the tiny pag oil cans sold next to the feon cans wherever you shop, walmart is the cheapest. the pag oil cans are smaller than the freon cans and they have a bit of 134a in them as well.
this is what u r looking for

THANKS FOR YOUR INFORMATION. HOWEVER THE CLUTCH DID NOT WORK FOR ME.
AFTER THE NEW TECHINIAN CHECK IT TURNED OUT THE COMPRSSOR BAD. NOW IT WORKS GOOD. THANKS AGAIN.
dang, sorry to hear that but glad you have ac once again
Victoria Sam how much was it if you don't mind me asking?
This is what "INFO. means" Information that directs you to A issue , and fixing it! Without the glammer of "Poser's who just post to see?, selfies..... " Thank You for posting, problem solved.
lol, thanks - glad you got it fixed
is that a 3.5 engine? i have never seen an 06 sienna with 3.5 engine!
you know, I'm not sure. I will go out and look later but it's just a heat wave out there now.
I'm following your vid. as I am doing it. For 30.00 I'll be a nice driver and not blow my horn. So far All I need to do is hook up this sh*t can I got for 47.00 at this point I'm cooling off it's 96* sun is just about to move to give me shade. Hope It works My wife say's take it to the shop. They want 130.00 Just to charge it. I'll owe ya big time if this makes me look good. 2005 Seinna first problem AC problem. I bought it new for 28,000 in all these years. So far the math looks good. Get back to let you know if I'm in the dog house or not.LOL
Nope Not in the cards for me. Compressor, all the expensive crap. 400.00 for the parts if I do it. Or wait for my buddy to have some free time or l go to the dealer 1200.or more. Worse than that the advanced auto crap wheel covers 50.00 flew off. A it sucks to be me day. Theres a reason the dealer parts cost more is they work. Dealer wheel covers are 120.00 a piece. Lasted till today. The advanced auto plastic wheel covers are a hazard
You rule
is it possible to have enough freon in system and only the fuse itself is bad which stops the compressor? In other words, if I swap out the fuse first, wouldn't the compressor come on if there is enough freon in system? If it doesn't come on, then I would know it's leaking freon and not just a bad fuse yes? Or does the wiring override have to be in place to make any of this work?
yes, try the fuse first, only use this video if your fuse is fine
excellent info i did mine it works thanks a lot
whats the size?
3.4l or 3.6 i forget
That's.
Great! Thanks
That is 2007 not 2006
actually, it's a 2004 but thanks 4 playing
Ok just want to let you know I was suffering in the heats for like a damn year switch my horn fuse with the ac and its like fucking magic god damn sorcery my ac is blowing cold af thank sir you are the real MVP but I didn't get a drain and fill at jiffy lube for the freons but it didn't work until I did what you taught me thank you sir thank you
I meant I did at jiffy lube
I wish someone put similar video about similar problem with Camry 2011. I can't find the information where is AC relay!!!!!!!.... Googled it, UA-cam, and finally bought Haunes Repair Manual, guess what. .. this is completely useless book. There is no diagrams where the relay is!!!!!!! $29 completely waisted. Back to search. ...
why the hell is there a $30.00 difference in the price for the same fuse. these auto manufacturers are thieves
amazing right?
