  • The ac compressor would not engage on my wife’s 2011 Toyota Sienna. I diagnosed the issue to be a bad flow sensor on the 2 day old compressor. Replacing the flow sensor fixed the issue.

    On my 2014 Lexus GS 350 it has similar Compressor as a Sienna with a AC Flow sensor issue. Lexus dealer was asking for a replacement of compressor ($3000) since they don’t just replace the AC Flow Sensor. I can see why cause it’s also had to get to the AC flow sensor to replace. It’s not easy to get to as the Toyota Sienna’s. I had to resort to using a magnet placed on the AC flow sensor. Now my AC works.

    Thank you very much for the very helpful information it allowed me to save $1200. I have a 2011 Toyota sienna as well and you described exactly the same issue I had bought the part on Amazon took and it took me about three hours to get it installed and worked perfectly.

    Thanks for the info. This sensor was the issue. Beware , although it is a small part and it looks like it is relatively easy to replace, it is not. My Toyota Sienna is a 2012, I live in an area where salt is used extensively in the winter, which leads to corrosion and oxidization of components. This being said, the aluminum had oxidized enough to wedge the sensor in place and the only way to remove it was by breaking it apart. To top things off, the space between the engine and the rad fans is so tight that working in this area is next to impossible. I even took the grille and top rad cross member off to gain maybe an inch of additional room. In order to fit the new sensor all oxidized aluminum had to be cleaned. This is a very slow , time consuming process because a dremel cannnot be used and only scraping and sanding by hand in this cramped space can be done. I did manage to put the new sensor in place, it does work but it took 3 hours to replace!

    I’ve got a ceramic magnet hanging on for the 2nd season now. Dealer couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Also dealer said the flow sensor is not replaceable, but iirc it is only possible on the 2011s.

    Hello, this video helped me troubleshoot my new compressor (1,500 dollars) install after 2 months. Suddenly quit blowing cold air, tried the magneti, heard it engage immediately. Did you have trouble with the little clip that holds the sensor on?

    Curious, what happens if you put a magnet on the sensor and don’t take it off all summer? Then when it gets cold out, remover the magnet and the heat works fine.
    Thoughts?

    I had a problem with one on 2011 sienna. My problem was the sensor would not come out at all. Did the sensor just pull up? It was stuck and the sensor broke. So I plugged the new sensor in and put it all back together and the ac started working normal. So I'll get a compressor and change it later.

    I have the same problem, Toyota worked on it, charged me $240, didn’t work, then technician told me, compressor problems and costs 2200 to replace it, I doubled it, I drove away, technician called and told me $1700. So I did some research and want to try that air flow sensor, I removed the C-ring, I unplugged the connector, but I had hard time to lift ( remove) the sensor, my Sienna is 2012, I am just wondering if you have hard time to remove sensor at all?

    • @mjmcomputers
      @mjmcomputers  Рік тому

      No but my compressor was only 2 days old. I bet it would be hard after it’s been in there awhile.

    Our Compressor is seized up. Is there a way without replacing the whole thing to get it moving without ac for the moment?

    • @mjmcomputers
      @mjmcomputers  Рік тому

      Won’t turn with ac off? If not then would like the pulley bearing seized. No real way to make it turn without replacing that bearing.
