One thing that I picked up in this episode is that in the TV coverage, they don't film the scrums properly. The close-up video of the scrum training from Chasing the Sun really gets across the raw power of the scrum. From the sound at the hit to the clash of the unstoppable force and immovable object - the grass tearing, the sheer pressure on the front rows. I reckon with some small innovation to how scrums are filmed in live games they could easily make this one of the most interesting parts of the game.

The Pundants wants the scrum to become just a literal Start of play...Rugby depends on various Different Body Types i.e. Short Stocky Props, Tall Massive Locks, Fast Strong Well Built Backrowers, Fast Speedy Backs...every different Body Type!!
For me the greatest moment was watching the boks play New Zealand at Ellis Park. Those general tickets were expensive, but it was money well spent. Yes we lost, but I was filled with incredible amounts of pride and love for my country when I left that stadium.
What is beautiful about rugby union is the variety of body shapes allowed. League literally has one body shape. Rugby Union has short and tall, big and small, fast and strong. Every part of the game is about competing for the ball, from lineouts to scrums, from rucks to mauls, it is all a contest, which makes the game the most beautiful in the world.
Enjoying your reviews fella. Regarding Bongi, your points are spot on & even more so the pressure was due to the amount of expectation put on Bongi to full the massive boots when Marxx known as the "Best hooker in the world" was injured, Bongi was further then named Captain against Romania when he then assumed a massive step up in the leadership role which he stood up to and handled like an absolute pro, real fucking warrior, leader of the dogs. He was immense for SA after Marxx's injury. P.S look up "African Wild dogs" re the ref to "dogs".
12:20 Hey Wildkard, love the videos. On the scrum positioning of the loosehead prop's head. For the viewers that possibly haven't been in a scrum. The loosehead is always trying to get the back of their head on the tight head's sternum, effectively performing a sternum rub. This can be incredibly painful for the tight head and increasingly so as the game drags on. On the flipside, the tight head is trying to catch the looseheads neck with their shoulder.
17:15 The same thing with Kolbe's chargedown. I don't remember if it was in the previous episode, or if it was an interview elsewhere, but he recited Ramos' sequence down to the second. There are still other variables that are a bit down to luck, but it's no accident he made it to Ramos at the exact right moment.
I love that youtube is in the midst of this war of narratives. For so long rugby scribes (who were really the only reference point for readers before the rise of Rugby UA-cam) in the UK and the antipodes dismissed South Africa as lucky brutes, who somehow occasionally managed to outmuscled smarter, more skilled, more trained adversaries. That the Chasing the Sun documentary and Rugby UA-cam are now giving some insight into the meticulous planning in the Springboks camp is causing issues for the peddlers of the usual narrative, who are now changing tack to say let's revise the laws so that fatigue can open up the game and take the fine planning out of the equation (of course without going as far as admitting they were out-thought). This is all based on the premise of the Springboks being unfit because they use their bench (which, uh, every other team does too). It's also based on the assumption that the Springboks team can't adapt and must surely be found wanting if we "revert to real rugby". Such nonsense.
frequent changing the law is very damaging to the sport. there is a reason a lot of computer game Esports dont survive despite huge popularity at the start, cos they keep changing the game to try draw more fans, at the cost of existing customers. and the new fans dont stick around and they lost existing ones on the rebound
Added to Bongi’s story is in episode 2, after Malcolm’s injury, Bongi was asked to do more in the WC. That additional pressure of playing at that level in the Boks scrum for 80 mins in a semi, it made sense they way the episode ended.
Wrt to your question on why other teams don't do live scrums... well they don't have the 2 best tight 5s in the world. Springboks scrum against themselves because nobody else can scrum against them.

Dankie
I only watch you,Big Jim and Tim from Eggchasers for rugby,it would be great to get all 3 of you in a room together.
Cheers mate thanks for watching👍
Rugby is a game for all shapes and sizes, removing the scrum removes that saying.
Loving the fact that you use your platform to make it known Scrum = rugby
cheers mate
Mate you need to become a Aussie rugby commentator. Make it happen 🇿🇦
very unlikely lol
I remember shedding some tears after final whistle .....yoooh that England game was personal 🤧
I think Faf thiught Willimse the underwear thing 😂😂
learning from his mentor faf de klerk
I love watching your videos brother
Beuatifully put Wildkard that if you don't understand its just plain rugby. I wonder if the MATT in Ireland is following Chasing the sun2?? Filled with tension and emotion.
mate his probably sleeping tbh
@@Wildkard yeah i guess the Matt is sleeping. I like what big Jim titled his podcast as the 'scrum' or the 'bok scrum'. The worldcup was really like watching theatre and scrumming forms a big part of what rugby is all about. Are you coming to SA to watch the Boks taking on Ireland??
Love you passion dude 😂🍻
Well said, good review🇿🇦
Cheers
Amen brother. Preach it. Tell those pundits.
cheers mate!
When are you starting the build up for the Lions series, i'm excited about some of the Aussie youngsters in SR pasifika

Cheers brother👍💪☕☕
And....Kiff shirt, bru!
dankie!

Totally agree. Scrums are at the core of the game.

WILDKARD FOR RUGBY PRESEDENT!!!!!!!!!
🤣🤣 rassie should be
This was a very interesting insight into scrummaging. Also, Wildkard a prop???
yes mate i cant catch
If you don't get it, forget about it.
if u dont get it, its just rugby mate
The scrum is only boring because sa have a better, scrum. If any other team had a dominant scrum they would be cheered on. ❤ My springboks🇿🇦
never boring mate
