And to top it all off, he dressed for the '85 Oscars basically like his own cosplay version of a Purple Sith Lord from the expanded Star Wars Universe. Much respect to this original pimp, and I am actually saying that with full-on respect. No bullshit.

@Tony Purple Rain is very much the sound of Prince & the Revolution playing, and adding to, a Prince song. The chords at the start are Wendy's, the outro keyboard riff, doubled by Prince on guitar, was Matt's.

Laura Branigan recorded 2 amazing soundtrack songs that year - Hot Night ("Ghostbusters") and Sharpshooter ("Body Rock"). She deserved a nomination for one of them. Prince deserved that Oscar though.
Actually I was surprised he won because the Oscars were never keen on voting on songs that were also mainstream hits but for once the Oscars did something right.
