Costumers and the wardrobe team work so hard and long on each design and piece, that this is a real tribute to them. Not to mention the theatricality of this old-school presentation is a hell of a lot more fun than the damn highlight reel they show these days. This did a much better job of recapping the stories than most.
Thank you, thank you! This was the first time I started paying attention to the costume awards I was 13 at the time of this broadcast and wanting Places in the Heart to win the costume award.
I'm Surprised That Elephant didn't go Nuts, with all the Bright Lights and the sound of Video Cameras Rolling, Because Bright Lights and Video Cameras Gave out a High-Pitched Sound that's too High for a Human's Ear to Hear.
Amadeus had the best costume design that year. Not sure what 2010 was doing there. Patricia Norris was well respected by her peers, so likely picked her to fill the fifth slot. The Natural should have been nominated instead.
This particular Oscars was 3 hours and 10 minutes long. Nowadays they always go over 3 hours and 30 minutes, sometimes 4 hours. Somehow they managed to make the shows longer and yet with less substantial presentation.
@@mrxxbrian 14 out of last 20 Oscars of this century went over the 3.30 mark. 5 of them passed the 4.00 one. Only two of them managed to keep it within 3.15 range (2005 and 2012, which are ironically two of the more interesting ones among the bunch.) I know they calculated the show to be 3 hours, but in reality it always went over time drastically. But my point is, the shows are now longer than ever but somehow also drier. And that is also taken into account they moved the bloody life time achievement award to their private balls.
I wish they’d present the costume nominees like this again. As a kid I remember they almost always would present them like that. I’m guessing they stop doing this because of time, but I’d rather see something like this than listen to some of the blowhards that stand up there and use it as some kind of platform for their boring personal agenda. Blah 😐🥱

The unfolding sets for this presentation are outstanding.
When the Oscars were an event not to be missed.
Amadeus was a great movie. Actually one of the greatest.
Absolutely!
Hilarious how they went to so much trouble by getting an elephant on stage to represent A Passage to India... only for Amadeus to win.
Amadeus, my all time favorite movie.
I loved how each little presentation did a mini demonstration of the plot of each film. So creative! and Jennifer Beals and Glenn Close xD
People are so damn critical now these days, i think the funky dancing and the elephant was hilarious, entertaining and amusing.
No, elephants do not belong on a TV stage. I guess you like circuses too.

Amadeus had great costume design.
My favorite costumes that year were the ones worn by Papageno and Pa-pa-pagena! 😂
Loved Amadeus. And what a great presentation. And elephant on stage! You'd think the Oscars would be much better 30 years later, but nope
It’s about to be 40 years

Nice way to present Costume Design , better than just seeing clips of the nominees.
oh god, from the funky dancing to the elephant, this shit is outrageously hysterical! LOVE IT!!!
That the reasopn i loved this!
What a great presentation for the costume design nominees! I wish there were more of these done. The last time I remember was the 2006 oscars.
Please upload Amadeus's win for Art Direction.
like a dash of color in the dim grayscale of this ceremony, Prince, bless him.
Glenn stunning as always! I love her!
so many wonderful costumes, and a big part of making any movie more beautiful and interesting,
i really like what glen close wear, its so elegant, and classic, andcit seems comfortable!
Give that elephant an oscar!! 🐘
Oh my pretty little Jennifer ~ love u
That was amazing, the elephant deserved an award.

The elephant with the envelope was cool- but the funky dancing was sad!
Love Jennifer💐😩😊💪👏😍😁
That thing with the elephant is a little crude I think...
It would have been a punishable crime had Amadeus not won the Oscar for Best Custome design.
Eiko Ishioka for Bram Stoker's Dracula Please!
Oh. My. Goodness..... IT'S TARRA!! :D
How Places in the Heart got a nomination is beyond me.
Cool!
6 minutes and 30 seconds dedicated to Costume Design? That would never happen now.

@@jackchung6573 Actually they strictly keep it appx 3 hours, from 5 PM to 8 PM Pacific and usually a rerun right after into the 11pm news.

oscar best costume for star wars video pleaseeeeeeee
Ah so that's when the Academy Awards jumped the shark. And of course it was in the 80s.
Weak year. Amadeus won by a mile!
Has there EVER been such an annual SCHMALTZ fest???
NO surprise linear viewership has plummeted by 2023!! 👎😩🤮⚰️!!!!
movie costumes look stupid on tv, especially with the stupid dancing.
your opinion sucks
Terrible costumes, extremely inaccurate, especially the women ones, they looked cheap.
NO , YOU ARE WRONG
