- After weeks of looking for a 2010 - 2013 Silverado LTZ in my price range, I finally gave up and settled for something similar. On the morning I was supposed to go look at (and probably buy) a Yukon Denali, this Tahoe SSV was posted for sale. It checked all my boxes (4x4, 150k miles or less, 2009+ for 6L80 trans instead of 4L60/65, mechanically solid, not modded, and owned by a responsible adult), so I bought it!

I have a 2008 suburban I put a 7.0 create motor in it and had a 4L80 trans built fore it has 3.73 gears way cheaper than a new 6.2
That sucker probably hauls Ass
Thats nice man
I had a really hard time getting a silverado 1500 last year and I ended up with a 2010 tahoe LT and I love it
I feel you. I sold off my ram 1500 in October of 2021 and tried to find a cheaper full-size truck but was out of luck. I needed something that I could fit comfortably in, take skiing and tow my boat.
After months of searching I landed on a Nissan Frontier, a little small for my boat but it works.
Congrats! 7k was a great price!
Thanks!
My border patrol Tahoe has all kinds of cut wiring for their lights and brackets
I freaking love mine. If you want some good ideas on how to build it I’ve got a damn good Offroad build
The weird wiring is a direct positive coming in for many things, lights, radios etc. The holes behind the map light was likely a much larger round interior light that operates in white or red mode, and the holes in the roof look to be the typical size for antennas. Good thing you got a 2009 because those don't have that crappy 4-8 cylinder shut down that causes a lot of issues for the 5.3
It has the cylinder deactivation as far as I'm aware. It's an LMG 5.3L which has the DOD system.
@@Dustrunnersauto gotcha i drive a 2010 PPV but it doesn't have the cylinder mess.
I don’t know if you’ve still got this Tahoe but I’m about to be driving a Tahoe SSV I just bought from Phoenix all the way back here to Connecticut. It’s a 2009 retired border patrol version with 78,000 miles. It has been converted to a mix between an LS/LT. New front paint matched bumper without fog lights (since the US border patrol takes the front bumper off of that generation of Tahoe for more ground clearance), but on the interior, the front seats have been swapped with leather and a factory front center console, but it still has the non-leather steering wheel. I was just wondering if you’ve still got yours and if there is any mechanical issues I should be looking for specific to it being a SSV Tahoe considering they may have low miles but an absurd amount of idle hours?
I have a 2011 SSV and I love it.
What’s the mileage and how’s it been. I’m looking at a 2013 ssv with 160k miles. 12500 asking price.
That bracket under the dash. Pretty darn sure thats for trailer brakes. The black coming off the grill seems to be spray paint. (I could be wrong on both)
Would be curious how many idle hours are on a 150k supervisor vehicle.
probably in the 4-6 thousand hour range
I had a 2013 Silverado fleet truck with a 6.0. I bought it with 160k and 6000 idle hours. Was always a great truck
Yeah engine hours could be a big downside when buying used police cars. There used to be factory new Ford Police Interceptor Utility's on sale, that was crazy, a brand new police car with all the upgrades. If you aren't a sissy who needs all the creature comforts police cars are clearly superior, they are much more durable. If only you could buy those new pursuit rated F-150s.
It may be the fire department type truck
i work for my county as a mechanic and what we do when we auction these vehicles is cut all the wires at the end and leave the rest in there. then remove the snipped out accessories gps tracker, spotlight, radios, antenna and lights. so that accessory battery is pretty much garbage and everything wiring connected to that because it was all snipped at the end. you got a lot of free spaghetti 🤌
edit: great vehicles tho because they never miss maintenances and are always low mileage for age
Yeah when people don't maintain their cars properly that can be a huge problem regarding reliability and longevity.
Crazy seeing two batteries on a gasser.
Ive been looking at the same generation tahoe, i wanna build a lowered down street rod tahoe lol
I have a 2008 Suburban and used the Belltech 752SP lowering kit and I freaking love it!! Performed great at LS FEST West in Vegas.
@@LSandL31 thanks. Im usually a ford guy, but there's something about those tahoes I've always liked
@@joetheman357 these are the vehicles that mechanics say have the least amount of issues and if you don’t have emissions, you can crank the power up really high!
@@LSandL31 thats what ive heard. And yeah the emissions around my area are pretty loose. Could be a really fun build lol
It's got the 6 speed auto too
Also, that fitment you're gonna base your Tahoe on looks freaking sick. I'm excited to see the setup.
I didn't want to deal with a 4L60/4L65, especially since I'll be towing. The 6L80 is so much better!
@@Dustrunnersauto for sure
@@Dustrunnersauto Holy shit a 4-speed auto??
Where's your personal channel?
I have a 2007 Tahoe SSV Border Patrol edition, I got it with 80k miles on it. I’ve have it for 5 years and it still drives like butter. Granted I had to change the front control, sway, shocks, and coils
Do you know the exterior differences between the ppvs and civilian tahoes? I get scared every time i see a silver, black, or whitw one and then it ends up being a soccer mom
Unfortunately I don't.
There used to be dealers who sold factory new Ford Explorer Police Interceptors, imagine buying one and scaring EVERYBODY.🤣🤣🤣
police package cars get VINYL in the back. not leather
Diesel trucks in az stupid expensive
maybe a former Border Patrol vehicle?
Put a Dmax in it...lol
That was a mistake
