You probably know this, but the snap lock containers’ lids are great to write the date on the top with a Sharpie and it comes right off with a damp Magic Eraser. I do this with leftovers, as well, because I can’t tax my brain wondering how long something has been in the fridge.😂 Just started with your method and have written the date on the snap locks and/or with a chalk label on the jars so that I’ll know when they were put up.
Yes, I just use dishsoap and my dish towels but I write on the lids all the time. Sometimes i write on the sides of the glass so I can read it easier on the shelf.
Hi! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I personally don't buy Okra so I don't have any tips on those. I do wash eggplant in a vinegar wash for 2 minutes. I hope that you enjoy the rest of my videos. :)
Hi, I seen you for first time yesterday on Simple Farmhouse I think it is called. I immediately started washing my veggies and was floored by the leftover water in the bowl. I can not thank you enough. Im searching your videos for cleaning information. Now I feel like my house is NOT clean. So, my first question is I do not have filtered watered. What should I use to put in the bottom of my jars? Is bottled water sufficient? Do you have videos on washing and storing the veggies from your garden? I will hopefully have more than I know what to do with soon. I am new to gardening and preserving so I need a little help. Thank you so very much!!!!!
Hi Welcome! I have an entire website with tips and 2 produce books www.thecrosslegacy.com/book. We post something new on Instagram every single day also instagram.com/thecrosslegacy and now over 300 videos here on youtube ❤️ As for the filtered water I normally tell people what ever water they would want to drink, so filtered from the fridge or bottles if that is what you drink. Most places the tap water has too much chlorine in it for the plants to survive.
Can you store produce in something other than a glass container, especially for bigger produce like zucchini and bell peppers? I prefer leaving them whole until they are ready to use, but I have limited storage space and a small fridge to have so many glass containers. Thank you.
@carolyngentry6162 they are all listed in the books by item www.thecrosslegacy.com/book. Cabbage I normally wash as I use with salt and warm water. Iceberg lettuce I divide up and use the vinegar wash like I do romaine that there is a video on here for.
Carrots do you wash them and peel them before you put them in a glass jar and refrigerate? Or do you just soak in the vinegar water rinse and peel, dry them and then bottle and refrigerate?
Yes, I do replay alot of your videos , keep picking up little things that I have missed. 😅😊 .How about cantaloupe would you do that like you do the watermelon, and pears and peaches if you did these fruit I'v missed it.
Here this link will help. It is a directory to all of our content and we are constantly adding more. thecrosslegacy.com/directory/ also each of those items are listed in I Bought It, Now What? Here is that link www.thecrosslegacy.com/book

@@TheCrossLegacy Thanks for your response, very informative and I will definitely adopt them. U am in the Caribbean and yes I do use distilled white vinegar to soak snd wash my fruit but I was not very organized in terms of the time and the method of drying but like you I like storing stuff in bottles or other containers. I won’t have enough space to bottle everything but I will definitely follow your advice where and how best I can.
Do you have a list to show which veggies and fruits to wash in vinegar and which ones you do not wash. Does all the fruit and veggies store only in jars.
The best place to get all of that information in one place is in my ebooks. They download as a PDF and have charts in the back for a quick reference guide: thecrosslegacyshop.com/products/i-bought-it-now-what-full-collection-ebook-bundle-download
@@shh1702 That is the easiest place to find it all in one place in a list. There are over 400 videos on my channel for free that have instructions for each item for washing and storing. You can store in any type of glass, either a jar or a glass container with an airtight lid. Almost everything gets washed in the vinegar wash, either before storing it or before eating it. Things in the pantry like potatoes, onions, garlic are not washed in vinegar.
Thank you. I watched your video with Mary this afternoon and have been binge watching you all night! It's 5:25am I think I should try to get some sleep. Again thank you for all you have taught this 62 yr old great grandma homesteader. 😘
Washing your produce when you bring it home will greatly help reduce them. I also make little traps with bowls, vinegar and a little dish soap if there is an issue.
@BonnieGeorge-ko6uu potatoes store 3ft away from onions if possible. I use a wire basket with a pillow case on top to block the light but still have air flow

It won't last as long in plastic as it does in glass but by following the washing instructions it will kill of the mold spores.
