Hello Amy and Mike. I am from Milton, Ontario, Canada, Earth. I went and bought glass containers and produce yesterday. I spent my morning washing the containers, produce and finding space to lay out the produce on big towels. I put on a timer for 2 hours to make sure I turn over the produce. It is going off now. I have turned things once already and I will do it again. I am also going to put my next produce shopping day on the calendar and will buy as much organic as I can. Thank you so much for this. I always hated to throw out food when so much of the world goes hungry. Also as a senior on fixed income I look forward to saving money. Bless you
Thank you so much! This is an older video and I did a updated fridge video recently if you'd like to watch it, the quality has improved a lot in 3 years! You can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/gJz-kMOdboY/v-deo.html
You can store your perfect ripe avocados (or even on the right) in a 2 quart mason jar with water and they will last for three months! Thank you for sharing your wisdom !
This is an unsafe practice here is the blog post if you would like more information thecrosslegacy.com/how-to-properly-store-avocados-storing-in-water-debunked/
You are amazing I also live in Washington state (Anacortes) new on your channel . I am looking and following your past videos ( I also like to prep my food ahead and do freezer meals .. just made sauerkraut for the 1 st time ❤
Watching this 2 years after you posted this video - but there should be a button on the inside frame of the fridge that you can push to stop the signal. It is what the door closes on.
Thank you, I'll have to check. We have tried everything to stop it to make it easier on filming days but haven't found it yet. I'll look again with your advice. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)
I found you on The Minimal Mom and my curiosity was piqued. Unfortunately, I am one of those who would throw vegetables out because they would get moldy, brown or go limp. (I grew up in the Yakima Valley and my dad was a farmer and we'd have fresh asparagus, corn, cherries, peaches, apples, pears and apricots.) Anyway, I don't usually buy organic bananas but thought I'd give it a whirl. We've had very warm temperatures this week here in Chicago and my husband and I were amazed that the bunch I bought didn't turn brown as fast as the regular ones. So, I'm sold! I do have a couple questions: 1) Keeping the vegetables in the filtered water for a long period of time, do they get slimy? 2) I have some glass containers that have wooden lids (IKEA). Will they work for keeping produce dry or should I stick to the type of glass containers you use? 3) My daughter lives in the tropics and to keep produce out on the counter would feed the fruit flies instead of her family. Do you have any thoughts on what she can do to eliminate that problem?
We have a produce book with more tips www.thecrosslegacy.com/book 1, no they don't get slimy if you follow my instructions to change the water every week to 10 days when you trim the ends. Things like asparagus will normally last a month. 2. The wood lids should work on most items but I don't think they would be air tight enough for avocados/apples, you might need to look into getting a couple jars with metal lids for those. 3. A clean small fan running near the fruit could help with that. Buy washing the produce as you bring it home also helps with eliminating fruit flies that are coming in on the produce from the store.
Just found you through Mary's Nest! So excited to get started on my produce! You keep talking about this balsamic reduction, how do you make it, and how do you use it? Thanks!
I get it at costco. But it is yummy. It's called like Nonnas and there is a granny on the label and bright yellow, I removed the label just to look cleaner in the fridge.
From someone who has always been mystified by produce, you are AMAZING to me! Maybe now I can start making more whole foods and eating less processed! I do wonder how you keep track of the age of everything. Do you date your jars in some way?
It's pretty easy I go grocery shopping once every 3 weeks so it's almost 3 weeks old or 6 weeks. The blueberries I finished up today in my smoothie was from May!
I really only deep clean my fridge every 3 months or so, by seasons. I used to own a housekeeping company so I am pretty tidy if anything spills. I wash the crisper drawers with dishsoap.
Also, when you restock say, the cheeses, what do you do with the extra that doesnt fit? Just found you recently so that's why I have so many questions. Also, do any of your books come in paperback format? Dont do digital.
Carrots yes there is a video here on my channel and cauliflower no, just get them out of the plastic and put in the crisper drawer. www.thecrosslegacy.com/book
Broccoli, Artichoke, ciltro, Parsley, green onions. There is a great chart at the end of my book that lists items in water. www.thecrosslegacy.com/book
Why do you store cherry tomatoes in the fridge? I buy organic and from one of your other videos I thought you just stored them on the counter. Same with cucumbers.
This was something I filmed for Instagram and then we posted here on YT for the replay. There are over 300 other videos filmed now in my kitchen that are horizontal so they fit the screen.
oh both of those are in the new summer edition of I Bought It, Now What available at www.thecrosslegacy.com, I also just did a watermelon video here on youtube.
I bought the already small thumb size carrots I put them in water in a jar. It’s been 3 weeks already. They are a lil bit slimy? Lol 😂 but I dumped the water and rinsed and put new filtered water and I think they are still usable ? What do you think ?
I don't normally store them in water. If they need a refresh I will put them in water for a couple of hours. There are pictures on Instagram instagram.com/thecrosslegacy
You need to go to school kitchens and teach them how to prepare and store fresh fruit and vegetables to last. Do you know how many apples are thrown away because they are whole and not sliced? Especially for littles who barely have any teeth! Having any apple other than two year old red delicious apples that are NOT delicious would help too😅
No way would you put your meat in water to defrost, your meat. Especially when it comes from a butcher wrapped lik that maybe when you get your turkey or ham from the grocery store yes but fresh meat I wouldn't. I'm with you Ms Amy.
What do you do about the appeal spray that the company's is now spraying on the produce? It's supposed to make the produce last longer but it's also bad for our bodies. As usual anything the government does it's pretty much bad for our bodies.😮
You can check the apeel website for what items are being sold in your local stores and make decisions from there. So far for us it is just avocados from a store I don't normally buy produce at.

Wish I had the room for a huge fridge like that !
This is amazing. I have only recently heard about glass storage. Also, I never knew you store food just as it is rather than plastic bags.
I can't wait to show you all of my produce tips.
Loving this video and your personalities ❤ I wish I had time to do all this, but will definitely try to do some.
Yay caught it live! Love your ideas!!
Hey Amy! Love, love, love your channel!
With the pickle jars, wipe them out with a paste of baking soda will take the smell out of it
That's a nice tip. The glass doesn't hold the smell its the lids.

This is great stuff. Organizing on tilt. Thanks much. How do you store your bread? Mine goes moldy fast in the summer. Have a good one.🤗✌😍
Normally in the freezer and I pull out what we need for a few days it is a habit we started with gluten free bread and have kept it up.
@@TheCrossLegacy Thanks. Simple enough. Thought maybe u had a different plan. Lol. I eat gf, too.
Where do you keep your left over food that you have you cooked😊. Do you have another frigerator.
We eat it 😋 I plan ahead for leftovers so we eat it the next day or I am batch cooking so it goes into the freezer.

Grocery stores never used to wet the produce with misters. They know it goes bad so you have to buy more!!
I hate the misting especially carrot bags how they get soaking wet
Thank You So much. Amazing!!!!

Yes, I have a standard fridge so I understand, but with good organization everything can fit.
I washed "leaf Luttuce" and put it through a spinner. Then let it dry for a few more hours. However, it was very limp. Can I revive it?
You might be surprised after you get it into the fridge that it crisps back up.
I put all my limp vegetables in ice water and they crisp up and taste fresher than when first bought 😊
Can you keep your green top onions in the filter watet in the fridge or do you need to keep in window seal.😮
You can keep them in the fridge if you want
Just found your video, please explain how u are storing veggies and fruits in mason jars

You lean with vinegar the veggies and fruits. Do you deep lean your fridge with vinegar too? How? How often to avoid hidden molds etc...
I really only deep clean my fridge every 3 months or so, by seasons. I used to own a housekeeping company so I am pretty tidy if anything spills. I wash the crisper drawers with dishsoap.
If your husband filmed with the camera horizontally, we could see you better! :)

Our biggest goal is to have a book on bookshelves some day. If you purchase the ebook through www.thecrosslegacy.com/book then you can print it.
