I love what Nasser and Duncan Fletcher did for English cricket. They gave us a spine,we were pathetic before Nasser took charge. 🏴👍🙂
Not really-England had beaten South Africa in 1998, only gone out of the World Cup because the Proteas choked against Zimbabwe & some awful umpiring in the final game against India. What Fletcher did was taught them how to play spin on the subcontinent which led to the incredible wins in Pakistan & Sri Lanka in 2000/2001, but they still weren't competitive against Australia in 2001 or 2002/2003 & failed to show any backbone in the second test of the 2001 series against Pakistan, or in the ODI triangular series that summer.
Problem was they were two very negative people-their leg theory on Tendulkar which let any chance of victory slip away in late 2001 & in the 2002 series against India when after racking up over 50o in their first innings Hussain was in the papers saying England couldn't win because he didn't have the bowlers he wanted was pathetic, that morning he then took slips out & watched as Dravid & Co started edging to where they would have been if he had been positive & backed the bowlers he did have. It was only when the positive Vaughan came in to counter-balance the negativity of Fletcher in 2004 that things really turned round. No way would England have demolished the Windies in the Caribbean, or won the 2005 Ashes under Hussain & Fletcher.
Agree with you, Naseer was aggressive captain, team he had was not that great. He was a fighter.
Never forget what kevin peterson did for england he showed the docile english team how to be aggresive though england never gave him the respect he deserved

He was a fine captain but he is a brilliant and unbiased commentator and storyteller. He excites the game just through his commentary. After Tony Greig he is the voice that makes cricket more exciting.

Respect to this great man!! I turned my tv off after england sent fab 5 back to the pavilion, and turned on the TV only in the last over to see a completely different drama which obviously went indians way. Today, seeing Nasser share his experience, I feel for him and for his team too. Well, I will say cricket won that day!! After 18 years if Nasser says what it was like to loose that game without taking anything away from team india, it speaks a lot about what cricket is and more importantly what Mr.Nasser hussain is. Love and respect to you sir!!
Hussain and Ganguly have a lot in common. They turned ordinary teams into really good ones. Dhoni and Michael Vaughan were beneficiaries of that.

Nasser didn't help himself sometimes though - some very peculiar decisions and funny team selections but England were better than they were under Atherton & Gooch.
Ganguly had to deal with whole Azaruddin fallout and still made the team better!
How did Dhoni benefit from Ganguly..?? Ganguly was a great captain no doubt... But after him Dravid was the captain.. Why couldn't dravid capitalise what ganguly did??? It was dhoni who wanted to make india the best fielding side... Which really made a difference... India was a good team but choked in the field.. Dropped catches n let boundaries... Which definitely was the reason india lost the matches they were losing.. But it was a bit tougher for dhoni to drop dravid, ganguly from the odi side initially... Made a team of his own..

Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Virendra Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, ( it was not Dhoni, it was Underrated Yuvraj who won you both 2007 world T20 and 2011 world cup ). These players were individually hand picked by Sourav Ganguly and made by him by backing them giving them enough opportunity. Now you talk about Dhoni, he would not even be in the if not for Sourav Ganguly. Every body was ready to kick him out after 4 failures. But it was "Dada" who backed Dhoni despite his failures and sent him up the order giving his own place.
Dhoni was a street smart cricketer who read the game than any of the previous leaders. But he was never the man that built it from ground zero.

How many major tournaments India won before that ?? Infact in 2007 all those 2003 players were in their peak ... Why did they fail terribly in 2007 ?? I am not taking anything away from Ganguly .. he built the team but still there needs to be a captain who could carry them.with all their talent, skills , strength... Dhoni was that captain who took it to next level ... Dhoni also built a team from scratch .. after all the seniors left ... The current Indian team ... Or the 2019 wc India team ... That was purely Dhoni made team .. that team was very very strong as well ... Infact India was the favourite... But unfortunately we couldn't win .. so with good players n good team .. good captain is also necessary to take u to next level ... While the team fields captain plays a major role .. which Dhoni did . Period.

Thanks for reviving my childhood memories as after Sachin got out from Ashley Giles I switched off my television and left to my Grandmother house thinking game is gone. But when I heard people still watching TV I told to myself what is happening they are not all out and asked how many wickets they told 7 and Kaif can do it. Then I sat in front my TV and watched that six in Long off from Darren. When they took that single off miss-field I literally jumped off and though from now India can win the World Cup but that thought expanded from 2003 till 2011. But yes congrats to England Team as well for WC2019

I can never forget that day, i was around 14 years old and when it was 5 down I cried and fell sleep and woke up in a small town with no highlights or news available on my fingertips, i went outside on the street and heard my uncle saying that India won last night and i couldn’t believe myself. From that day on i never stopped watching the match in between and loose hope. Thank you naseer for bringing out those memories alive.

I remember playing a club match on this same Saturday whilst following this match on radio and losing a run chase in a similar manner. It wasn’t a great weekend for me as an england fan and cricketer.
Well, it was one of the moments we held on to as Indian fans as we did not have much else to cheer about then. Got absolutely smashed by the Aussies in the final a year after that.
We switched on to another channel...and suddenly we hear clapping from our neighbours...then we tuned in again and Yuvraj and Kaif were chasing runs down😁
Yes this was one of those Greatest Ever ODI's and also Independence Cup 1997 Dhaka India vs Pak Final.
We have heard about the 2003 Natwest final win from Indian team a lot , but what Nasser Hussain was thinking , his views , it was different feeling. I think the last part of the video , moved me a bit as well.

Wonderful match. Sat night.. 146/5 .. Turned off the TV and slept.. Suddenly neighbours screaming woke up and saw it was 240 odd for 5.. That Entire tour of England was just amazing.. Wonderful bowlers vs wonderful batsman and two aggressive captains.. Wat else can u ask for?

18 years later, this is till date one of my favourite days with my dad. Going back to listening or watching this match bring back so many warm memories. My favourite match easily while growing up.

Whilst the format is born out of necessity I like it, and I think it should be carried on after lockdown is eased. Production costs must be minimal, and whilst it's not studio quality on both audio and video fronts, it's perfectly acceptable for players and indeed ex players talking about famous games they have played in

Yes, I too thought the same when he repeatedly kept saying fav 5, sure enough VVS was there in the squad but he was not there in the finals, it was Mongia.. one of the five wickets in that 146-5, mongia was caught in the covers.

Grestest ODI is def the 2019 world cup Final ,it was a WC Final to begin with so much Drama in the last overs one fielder caught the ball we thought NZ gonna win then he overstepped the Boundary line one overthrow went for a 4 , then the match tied , we had the super over it got tied as well 🔥🔥
I have never seen as much drama as that 2019 WC final day. Just wish it didnt end on a technicality. This match is top 5 greatest ODIs at least.
Nope. The greatest ODI is South Africa vs Australia. 434 runs being chased. Eng vs Nz can be the greatest final but can't be the greatest ODI ever as the winner of the final never scored the wining RUN. Anyways, England winning the WC Final on the basis of a weird rule was absolutely deplorable to say the least. It can be called the best final of a 50 over WC but No chance of being the best ODI ever. On the contrary AUS vs SA when Australia was undefeatable and scored 400+ only for SA to chase it down and not only break the record for the highest score in an ODI which was created by Australia in the same game but to win the series against an ALL TIME GREAT SIDE.

Yeah I’m from NZ and today is the first day I saw the game on UA-cam since the since the final. And now I’m embracing the way it ended. They way we reacted, the honesty straight away from Guptil when Boult took the catch in the boundary. At the end of the day I’m glad at least someone from my city won the World Cup in Ben Stokes.
@@ashishmeena8181 Aus vs Rsa was one of the greats but this kept alot of people on the edge of their seats it had alot of drama and first time in ODI cricket the super over got tied the rule suks , But if they didnt like the rule they couldve voiced their opinion and change it beforehand they all agree to the rule when it was made and now pisssed when they got lesser boundaries but yeah its unfair cuz NZ got more wickets but nonetheless the ‘Stupid Rule’ the players made it entertaining but this clearly had more drama and a tied Super Over and SA vs Aus was a batsmans match due to flat pitches the bowlers from the both side suckked WHAT PEOPLE CANT REMEMBER IS SOUTH AFRUCA DIDNT PLAY AGAINST THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN SIDE CUZ WARNE , MCGRATH , SHAUN TAIT, WATSON DIDN PLAY THAT MACTH AND BRETT LEE WAS THE ONLY QUALITY BOWLER but the Eng vs NZ had great bowling NZ took wickets early then a great comeback from Ben Stokes it had both geat Bowling , Batting , drama , Tied match and a tied superover and also was a WC Final everything that you could have in a game

That Nat West win is very very special one for Indians. For the first time Indian Cricket team came out of a mental block whetr Sachin's failure used to demoralise the whole team and fans alike. Indian cricket team got a new found confidence with that win.

Great ODI Definitely. More so, since I am Indian. But the greatest? Nah. The 438 match will forever be the Greatest Cricket Match Ever Played IMHO.
I don't think there will ever be a greater ODI match than the Australia vs SA match in 1999 WC. It was both thrilling and substantial. Both the Natwest final and the 438 match were fantastic matches but otherwise not very consequential.

This match is also top 5 for pure entertainment and edge of the seat watching. Considering back then scores over 300 were comparable to 400 today. Also the fact it was done by two youngsters. Eng vs NZ is pu there as well as the high scoring game between AUS and SA.

Hussain was a very good player and a great captain but a greater human being. It takes a man to accept his loss the way Hussain speaks of that match and his opposition.

Underrated Odi match of last decade . Has to be one of best 10 Odi matches of all time .
