Nice chopper. Glad you didn't go crazy on the handle bars; very short risers and 5" or 7" rise on the bars? It's been awhile! Just turned 71 not long ago. I miss those old shovels and pans! Happy motoring!!!
so much knowledge thanks for sharing it all the time love ur videos watch them all over and over and over... your so used to old bikes u shift so soon great job keep making videos
Really dig the "tastefully" modded bikes over the all billet-everything aftermarket 30 grand choppers every time. The value over a stock bike may not be there,But this type build can be ridden, shown, modded some more..whatever you like.....Very cool as usual!
Bad ass bike man. If I was gonna buy a Shovel, that's the one I'd buy. I love that look. One day I'll add a Shovel to my garage. Great job man..it sounds great!!
Awesome vids man! I'm just finishing my FL 1971 1200 rebuild. I must say the paintjob put it all in another gear! It came back so g***amn nice I had to stop thinking "just build it and roll" and had to start thinking "I'd better build a beautiful bike!!" It's gonna be a apehanger/california custom with the option to put the (amazingly nice painted) original fairing and handlebars plus original plastic bags on for those autumn-longrides Real inspiring to see your bikes!!! Greetings from Sweden!
you have the best bikes hands down I started on a 77 low rider and now have a 88 1200 Sportster I'm 27 but would like nothing else but my old Harleys keep up the good work
Bought a 79 flh full dress for 5,200.00 new and road it to Florida then to California and back to Jersey in 1980. Then the next year to upper peninsula Michigan. Great Times
There' s not a video you've made that I don't like, really informative and you do such a nice job on the older bike making them tick just right. FUCKIN AWSOME!!!
when they were set up like this, old school. they used an adjustable triple tree (like for side car use) to give the illusion of a longer fork, or a factory extended springer for military desert use (like off an XA< but also made for desert 45's). At this time, when bikes like this were built, there were no after market manufacturers of frames (this frame is an after market). Chopper's came later, and had a raked neck, ALWAYS
Its Kool ! 4 speed,Kicker on a Ratchet top,Ridgid. No turn signals or any other unwanted crap hanging off it.Straight through Shotguns & if its too Loud then you are too old!Loud Pipes save lives.I Love the old tin primary,s.We couldn,t register such a fine beast here in Aussie as the rule makers are pretty strict. So we register them all lamed up & then bring em home & go to work stripping all the unwanteds off, depending on your tastes off course. Thanks Man,I dig your posts!
wow, thats one beautifull old school bobber .. love the bike you sure do know alot about harley's .. i wish you could fix my chopper up . i live in PA if i knew where to find you i would swing by and hire you to get my nike up n runnin
Midwest still has quite a few. In fact I just bought one this evening, a 1975 FLH that is in perfect condition. I was inspired by your vids, Todd, to pull the trigger on finding my dream bike.
It's such a shame there's such a small number of good Shovels over here in the uk! I'm on a 74 ironhead until I can get my hands on a straight shovel.... Unless I import from Cali :) love the work guys, keep posting cool shit!
this one is my favourite of all your videos, how much does it cost to build one with used parts? and which motor would you recommend based on a lower budget, a 1340 evo? thanks
The rarest side car shit are factory customs. Watch this video ua-cam.com/video/xgm60LR7JLk/v-deo.html look for videos I made on this special order 1957 FLH with side car, there are a few of them.
Seems like I had a side mount license/tail lamp like that one that I bought from Jammer back around 1978-79. "Cats-eye tail lamp." Wasn't on the bike long. I forgot about it being there ran it into something.
1340 has better power and a little better oil pump. Additionally, the spark plug hole has more threads so it is harder to strip out the threads. Overall, they are fairly equal. They are not much cheaper here, when you add in shipping and tax. Maybe the same price even. Some rare shovels can easily sell for $15,000 US or more
GREAT YT channel, man. I love Jay Leno's Garage, but the great thing about your garage is I can actually FIND or AFFORD these bikes. (I almost want to send you some new audio/video equipment to improve the production value of this great information. Almost.) Keep up the great work! ::SUBSCRIBED::
+Anonymous appreciate the good thoughts. All the cheap shovel videos were done at a time I was able to buy and sell them. There are over 1500 videos. But the time of my buying and selling cheap shovel's is over. Enjoy the videos I have made.
love your channel. very informative. I just bought a 72 FX that is mostly original. I have a DNA springer+3 but think I will put the stock front end back on. What would you recommend for a nicer front end to make this bike a good daily Rider. the OEM front just seems too small. Thanks
The 1971 and 72 FX's are very different from the other FX's. Assuming your bike is mostly there. Personally, would find the missing pieces and enjoy it as a stock or very close to stock bike. The hunt is then part of the fun. But, everyone does something different with their machines.
hey todd i was wondering what carb was on this bike i heard you say in the vid it was from a evo . but what brand carb. mikuni? also do you still need a driver i know its kinda late but you never know
Hiya, the front wheel looks well proportioned between those forks. Would you mind telling me the wheel size and tire dimensions please? Looks like a 19 inch with an over-size tire. Many thanks. Mike.
Really, that surprises me! Which would you say was the better engine, the 1200 or 1340? I'm looking every day in the uk for a good realigned shovel but its getting harder and harder. Unless you wanna shell out £10k!!
Explain to her there is a difference between "i'll let you" and "This (or that) arouses me so much and I need it" which in turn if the same also works for you, works as well as this bike. She needs to find a kink that gets you both off this much. that is the path, you two need to find it.
Who makes a rigid rear frame for a 2001 Road King FLHRCI. I have one that was rear ended and it has an oddball swing arm part No# 4 54947-00 that seem to cost as much as a new reproduction main frame that the swing ares cost $50.00 for 02 and later. Everything on my 01 behind the battery was destroyed. I cut the 3/4 wheel hub out and can lace it.
it's mostly there besides boat tail fender and seat.... all matching numbers one owner bike. My best friend had a 77 lowrider back in 84. That's the bike I have always dreamed of owning. Your opinion is for me to keep my 72 as close to original? I trust your opinion from watching your channel. Thanks again.
What in hell can I do with the rear end of my Wide Guild ? I've lowered it as far as I can , mounted the shocks forward as far as you can . I have to keep that bad ass fender though , 2004 . Fish tail fender I love . But those shocks I just can't get that look with them I want
This guy DOES know his shit. It's clearly his life. Love these videos. I don't miss kicking my shovel lol
I heard that! love Electra start! ...................................F Yes!
Nice chopper. Glad you didn't go crazy on the handle bars; very short risers and 5" or 7" rise on the bars? It's been awhile! Just turned 71 not long ago. I miss those old shovels and pans! Happy motoring!!!
Absolutely love shovelheads. My personal favorite of all the harley models.
Thanks for all your videos. Much respect to you. I have a '57 FL,' 64 FLH, '02 FLHT and '04 XL883 bar hopper.
Todd sir you yourself are a piece of America take good care of yourself, enjoy your video's very much.....
You know your stuff Todd. I love this video!!! And all the rest too!! SHOVELHEADS FOREVER!!!!!!!!!
so much knowledge thanks for sharing it all the time love ur videos watch them all over and over and over... your so used to old bikes u shift so soon great job keep making videos

That's a sweet looking bike. Also thanks for the lesson on the frame.
Love that sound...My old Shovel sounds just the same. Loud pipes save lives.
+Rick Tarded with todays very well insulated cars and booming stereo systems NOBODY hears a loud bike.

Love the look of that bike.
Great bike. Love your videos.
I'm one of those guys that will admit I know nothing bout these old school bikes lol.. but my god watching your videos .. helps
you have the best bikes hands down I started on a 77 low rider and now have a 88 1200 Sportster I'm 27 but would like nothing else but my old Harleys keep up the good work

Nice work, solid bike

Brings back my high school days ..rode to school with a big ass pompadour n Farmer John's with a Pendleton hahaha
This bike is like a dream ❤❤❤
awesome, seems to run well
I love the older stuff but I'll stick to my modern 97 Evo Heritage for my everyday riding machine .
I ride a 94 myself
happy to be an inspiration!

beautifull bikes there mate
that is correct, down is usually on, up is usually reserve. straight across is generally off
sounds great!
long long gone that one.
wow, thats one beautifull old school bobber .. love the bike
you sure do know alot about harley's .. i wish you could fix my chopper up . i live in PA if i knew where to find you i would swing by and hire you to get my nike up n runnin
It's beautiful
That is music to my ears
love it!
Nice Scooter.Looks like a great little ride without all the frilly crap.
glad you enjoy the videos
Midwest still has quite a few. In fact I just bought one this evening, a 1975 FLH that is in perfect condition. I was inspired by your vids, Todd, to pull the trigger on finding my dream bike.
thanks!
Nice bike!
She sounds beautiful
Love that bike
EVO carbs are CV carbs. I don't need a driver right now, but I am hoping that changes in the next month or two so stay in touch.
I don't take on outside work, but thanks for thinking of me.
It's such a shame there's such a small number of good Shovels over here in the uk! I'm on a 74 ironhead until I can get my hands on a straight shovel.... Unless I import from Cali :) love the work guys, keep posting cool shit!
points and good tune up. that's how they should all start
+La Zam that bike sold LONG ago
this one is my favourite of all your videos, how much does it cost to build one with used parts? and which motor would you recommend based on a lower budget, a 1340 evo? thanks
had one like it in the 70s n 80s.
This guy knows his stuff - ever have any sidecar shit come through?
The rarest side car shit are factory customs. Watch this video ua-cam.com/video/xgm60LR7JLk/v-deo.html look for videos I made on this special order 1957 FLH with side car, there are a few of them.
CV carbs are nice , Very easy to set up

I loved how this man knows his shit true biker 👌🍻🏴☠️

Great bike
badass bike
that depends on how good of parts hunter your are at the local swap meet, same with cost on the motor
This guy has probably forgotten more about motorcycles than most of us will ever learn.
the "sound is easily changed with pipes and sometimes a different cam". Harder to change is "the look"

I like the idea of the mechanical wide glide front in.
hey todd i was wondering what carb was on this bike i heard you say in the vid it was from a evo . but what brand carb. mikuni? also do you still need a driver i know its kinda late but you never know
magnifique !
I'm a mechanical brake nut too! :D
Hiya, the front wheel looks well proportioned between those forks. Would you mind telling me the wheel size and tire dimensions please? Looks like a 19 inch with an over-size tire. Many thanks. Mike.
I want this bike...
OK thanks a lot
You'd think the builder would've moved the petcock to the rear of the tank, that is a fine machine though!
Nice bike
not many Shovel's left anywhere here either. They are all in Japan now
there is always a shut in trying to feel important. Don't let them bother you
Assuming this has been sold?
I lost the page I lost the video,
But can I have the gmaol?
that is why it is a ridged frame, no rear suspension
That's sweet
So this thing doesn't have suspension at the rear? I'm planning to build one for myself and for i dont have any idea..how im gonna start it
Really, that surprises me! Which would you say was the better engine, the 1200 or 1340? I'm looking every day in the uk for a good realigned shovel but its getting harder and harder. Unless you wanna shell out £10k!!
Is the white wire to coil from pointer, or is it positive from battery? I have bought my first Shovelhead in parts and got the same type coil.
Coils are wired up with one wire going to points the other to the ignition switch. ALWAYS.
HuntingHarleys Ok. Thank you!
hey todd is this bike around for sale? what are you asking?
I had a S&S e on My 75' Shovel and You had to slowly roll the throttle out on the Road or it stumbled? Were they all like that?
all depends on the carb and how it is tuned
you can, there are ways.
Nice scoot.
long time ago
Explain to her there is a difference between "i'll let you" and "This (or that) arouses me so much and I need it" which in turn if the same also works for you, works as well as this bike. She needs to find a kink that gets you both off this much. that is the path, you two need to find it.
got any more bobbers for sale?
Chulada
Hey man how much for the 78 flh bobber?
Who makes a rigid rear frame for a 2001 Road King FLHRCI. I have one that was rear ended and it has an oddball swing arm part No# 4 54947-00 that seem to cost as much as a new reproduction main frame that the swing ares cost $50.00 for 02 and later. Everything on my 01 behind the battery was destroyed. I cut the 3/4 wheel hub out and can lace it.
Absolutely no idea. You will probably have to make it
it's mostly there besides boat tail fender and seat.... all matching numbers one owner bike. My best friend had a 77 lowrider back in 84. That's the bike I have always dreamed of owning. Your opinion is for me to keep my 72 as close to original? I trust your opinion from watching your channel. Thanks again.
I would, personally. Easy to fuck them up, not so easy to keep stock
Lol
what do you like more, dynas or softails?
I've owned more softtails, but not enough Dyna's to give an educated opinion
Nothing about this putt that i would change except to add about 5 more inches to that rear fender.
What in hell can I do with the rear end of my Wide Guild ? I've lowered it as far as I can , mounted the shocks forward as far as you can . I have to keep that bad ass fender though , 2004 . Fish tail fender I love . But those shocks I just can't get that look with them I want
cranked 1st kick, what kinda fire?
Love your videos, but hard to hear you over the engines.
could you please tell me what model gas tank that is?
+scumdog88 Sportster Gas tank, There have been various ones over the years. Plus after market ones that cause the tank to sit high or low on the frame
