Nice. I had a 1973 Shovel and starting procedure, even when kick starting was much more simple. No different from my current ride, a 1988 Evo. Turn on gas, pull choke, pump throttle twice, and start.
Pretty much. Or set choke. Kick bick 3 times with ignition off. Then turn ignition on. Twist throttle just a little and give her good full kick. Starts up. That's how my panhead fires up
I’m sorry the new bikes just don’t compare. Anything with a distributor and a CARBURETOR is absolutely workable. Just do your oil changes. Learn how to use locktite. Hydrologic lifters are fine. The bike you’re showing is sweet. Just warm it up. They say the new ones are more reliable. Who knows? I’ve seen videos about recalls. Years ago you didn’t have recalls, you keep all the parts clean and snug. I stopped loving them when they went with that lower end. I always felt the separate trans was much easier to do some easy modifications, and between us there is a COOL FACTOR as well. Riding today you have to be more alert. Way too much wacky traffic out there. It’s tough. I had a 1976 Bicentennial SuperGlide. It lad the graphics on the tank. By itself it was a great bike. Straight drag pipes. Custom shifters.
I love how the guy talks to the other guy like he knows nothing about bikes 🏍. Throttle is on this side, brake on this side, roll towards you to go and hit the brake to stop. Then he tunes his carb with his fingers and the one guy is like......oh......ok.....this is hilarious
@@michaelmitchell5909 nah I have a 1200 Sportster and an 88 ci road king. The Evo definitely has a better sound. I love the road king but it doesn't compare to the Evo.
question I have a 75 xlch Sportster what is the proper way to describe this bike I've heard people say it's an Ironhead Sportster it's a Shovelhead Sportster or Ironhead Shovelhead Sportster you are very knowledgeable please let me know what you think
HuntingHarleys thanks bro I'm going to look into that I planned to turn into a 93 cubic inch Stroker next winter pretty mechanically inclined but this is my first real Harley I mean I have a 2013 Softail Deluxe with all the bolt on parts that are out there but this is my first intimate bike that I have hard tailed and ripped apart thanks for the tip
You may be right. But, working as an RN in a hospital for quadripeligic injuries, I learned something. When one becomes a ward of the state due to head injuries, it cost the gov't over 100 k to care for you on a yearly basis.
If I am dead why would I care though? And at any type of speed even if its 55 MPH your dead . One more though though. I lost my left leg from the knee down back in 02. Lady ran a red light and My chopped panhead with me in the saddle went straight into that car. Helmet would never save my leg. wasnt wearing one that day and dont wear one now. Running a 82 FXR [shovelhead] and an 09 Dyna Street Bob . I still have my wrecked pan. Havent bothered to rebuild the old girl yet . Hemet just isnt my choice . Even the Dog Barks with approval of that Shovel Head Straight Pipes sound. : )
He wanted a ride !
Living all the best bikes in seeing, but this is by far my favorite.
I miss the sound of these shovels. I never hear them anymore like in the 80s.
Mostly out of the country. Want to hear them daily? Move to Japan
Always liked the sound of a good running shovel with drag pipes!
No
Streep as it could get. Nice ride man
That bike just took me back to when I was 25, riding my hardtail with a Springer front end
Beautiful ride! I have never ridden a rigid but would love to be able to say that it was mine.
Wicked bike, starting procedure videos are always interesting.
Yes it is. I will try it on my shovel.
Real good buy real nice bike wish i had it.
Shovelhead = best sounding Harley of all time

I feel spoiled, I get into a certain distance of my bike (harley) and I can flip the switch and vroooooooom
That start-up ritual brought back memories. But he forgot a critical step- a quick prayer to the great god Googly Moogly. He was lucky this time.
Very nice machine 💪. Old school ✌️
thats real Sound of a shovel head harley, greetings from Germany !!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful shovel guy
Real man's bike. Gotta love kicker rigid shovels.
How do you bury a twin cam? WITH A SHOVEL!
L.o.l!
Sounds delectable 😎
Oh wow! Look at that seat! What a good looking bike!
sounds great i had one
man did that 1st start sound good.
Love shovels cool boke
Still do you have that beauty
Thank You for sharing that video. Just about like my old pan. Just a bit nicer than the one I had. Great looking sounding bike.

65 was the first year for electric start and not all shovelheads were electric start. Only the Electraglides were

Geez I really think shovels, evos and panheads sound so much better than twin cams and m8 motors
Bunnyshooter 223 yeah for sure! The twin cams and m8 won’t be that sought after, the evo will be the last of the classic Harley engines
I have a twin cam 120R engine in a wide glide. The exhaust note pounds, you can feel it.

Ironhead sportster. The factory never made a Shovelhead Sportster. However, you can, with care and MONEY, put a Shovelhead top end on a Sportster.

Shovels have an awesome sound to them..
that's the sound of a real bike.

I guess I never was too cool. I always wore a helmet gloves and steel toed boots. The pavement hurts when you hit it.
