Sakigake!! Otokojuku is an 80s Shonen Jump manga that was extremely popular at the time but didn't seem to experience the same sort of longterm appeal that Hokuto no Ken or Saint Seiya or the like had. It's basically about an all-boys high school where everyone learns how to be the manliest man man and do man fights. Probably the biggest influence the series had on a worldwide scale is that the school's headmaster, Heihachi Edajima, was the basis for Heihachi Mishima; so much so that Daisuke Gori voiced both characters.
He's not wrong that it is kinda a parody series, or at least over exaggerated. When a character has a new technique or fighting style, the manga goes in-detail about it, as a sort of textbook. It is pretty great though.
1:03:40 Natsuki Crisis Battle is based on a manga titled Natsuki Crisis that ran in the 90's. while the manga lasted for 7 years and 18 volumes, it was only adapted into a 2 episodes OVA.
Madame Harry looking grand too, would've picked her first or the old martial arts sensei dude. Shadow Struggle looks like that timeless 90s energy captured game. Harry's smile at the end 🫡❤️😩
Sakigake is like Kinnikuman, kinda a parody and/or over-exaggeration of his themes. But it also inspired the posterior mangas of the genre. One of, if not the first tournament manga.
So happy to see Mutant Fighter here. That game was in the basement arcade of my local wedding venue when I was a kid, and though I never got to play it cause I didn't have any money and had no idea what wrestling was at the time, I'd always stare at the arcade cabinet whenever my family visited that venue. I remember wishing that I had the money to buy the arcade cabinet for this when that wedding venue closed down.
Losing my mind over the fact that they made a specific animation for Gambit laying his staff on the ground before launching his junk punches, and then another one of him picking it back up after.
Sakigake!! Otokojuku was a shonen manga that ran at the same time as Fist of the North Star and the first 2 parts of JoJo, and yes it seems like it does take inspiration and makes references to both. It was a manga about a military academy teaching students how to be "true men" and "revive the spirit of Japan". Very underrated.
Touché. Plus, I am looking forward to the character design on the undead Remy (I have heard that, but not 100% seen the comic version) as the member of the Apocalypse's four Houseman in season 2.

26:43 I always liked the X-Men Evolution version of Toad, though it’s been so long since I haven’t watched it that I’m not sure whether I really liked the character or if that fondness is just because he was dubbed by a really good voice actor here in Brazil who did a great job with him (could be both, though)
The teenaged version of Toad from X-Men: Evolution, while not the 'coolest' character, is probably the coolest of all the toad variations throughout all mediums, and my personal favorite.
Ever played tatsunoko fight on PS1? It's a pixel based fighter game that never got a western release. But similar to the better known marvel vs tatsunoko on Wii it features a roster of characters from tatsunoko studios. Because it didnt have to dick around with the Capcom ip. It has a lot more g force characters as a result even zultan? (I think he was called) The main bad guy from battle of the planets is a playable character. Deffo worth checking out especially if you're an old fart like me who grew up on the animated show
I'm only aware of Sakigaki because the main character was playable in J-Stars Victory Vs. The first time the series was exposed to an international audience
One cool thing in the monster wrestler fire pro 2 x turbo game thing, on each wrestler it gives you a hint on what to expect on em. Like Golem its says strikes aint sh!t and on doppleganger it says he'll transform into his opponent etc
Not to belittle the great work and dedication of our one and only Skeleton Lord, I just think it's necessary to mention the incredible editing. The Berserk my love is like a truck moment?! The biggest, sloppiest, chef's kiss to you.
I wished I remembered the name of this fighter I had for the Genesis that was essentially a Street Fighter rip off. The only thing I remember about it was that one of the characters, or the boss character, was a cliche (for the early 90’s) dude with slacks, dress shirt with suspenders, and the black workout gloves, and one of the stages took place on the back of a flatbed train car
I asked around reddit recently about good 8-bit fighters, and the consensus was the SNK games on GB were okay. I had Power Rangers on the GG, might be a good fit for a vid, 90s as hell, plays okay, and from Banpresto! It's even lore-accurate! e.g. In the Versus ladder Rangers never fight Zords because of the size difference, but Monsters have to fight basically everyone.
I bet they must have removed the round timer in X-men during playtesting after every round ended in a time out due to the minuscule damage of every hit
Me and my pops use to play the hell out of Shadow Struggle. I would recommend Fighting Fantasy/Hippodrome maybe the prequel to Mutant Fighter/Death Brade
I think "Amazoness" is a Japanese thing because in Japanese versions of the Splatoon games the enemy Octolings (who are all female) are called "Takozoness"
@25:00 nobody wants to talk about the active lava spewing volcano in Antarctica... the Earth's poles do not seem like a great place for a phoenix to start a family

I know there's the editor's note about Banpresto - I want to add to it that Banpresto is still around in the same way Kenner is still around (owned by Hasbro since the early 90s). New Banpresto figures get made for Kamen Rider and Sentai (and probably other stuff) every year.
Used to play 'Mutant Fighter' alot in my high school days...I usually played as the Beast, who had a cool neckbreaker-like move in his regular move set, and who would yell "Brains to Eat!" during his "Super Throw" (as it was called, instead of "OK" when the bar was full); the Game's background is that the King has died without an heir, so a tournament is held to find the new ruler - Beast, however, just wants to win so he can eat the dead King's brain, thinking that it would make him smarter! 😂 And the Hydra is saying "Our - Power - Is - Very - Great!" during it's Super Throw, FYI.
Ok, how the HELL, do you know that? How often did you play this game that you actually figured that out? Because I'm listening to these voice lines and its gonna take me multiple attempts to decipher them.
@tenyokensekia8088 My friends and I played it after school 5 days a week for about 3-4 months straight (before it broke down; the Arcade owners never ended up replacing it, unfortunately), and the cabinet's speakers were pretty much set on maximum volume (loud enough to drown out the nearby game cabinets, in fact); It is *definitely* much easier trying to work out what is being said when you are in-person with the cabinet vs what UA-cam does with the audio.
Character voicelines during the super throws: Fighter: "A pity you must die!" Amazoness: "You are no match!" Hercules: "You are a bug to me!" Werewolf: "My teeth are hard!" Minotaur: "Know the authority of my horns!" Beast: "Brains to eat!" Golem: "I will mash you!" Dragon: "Feel the heat of my breath!" Hydra: "We--are--the--Hydra! Our--power--is--very--great!" Pazuzu: "Let's taste your blood!"
Matt, I haven't got the chance to watch all your past videos in this series but have you ever played Toy Fighter? I discovered it recently and it seems like the type of fighter you'd enjoy.
Should try Flying Dragon 64(I don'tthink many people have heard of it.), SD mode on Hard or V. HARD(unlockable by pressing right multiple times in difficulty setting)and speed on max.Alternatively, playing on V. Easy with rounds set to 3 and speed on highest setting, It helps you level quickly. Really unique fighting game with rpg elements. Not the biggest movesets, but leveling up of your character... and unlockable characters, unlockable specials, items, weapons, and armor sets. Plus 2 other game modes, that look completely different than SD mode and even has adult versions of some of the SD characters. It's fairly simple but totally worth it. Last Blade 1/2 is/are an incredibly good fighting game/series as well, but on execution and presentation. Parrying has A solid feel to it, as well as the uniqueness of the types of characters there are to choose from. Depending on the difficulty, the last boss is ridiculous. 👍
As a former X-Men fanboy, *Toad has been redesigned **_a lot!_* At least some were _attempts_ (maybe even successes) at making the character cooler. One happened when I was first getting into comic books in the early, early 90s and I believe was the source of *Toad's first major redesign.* The images I'm seeing are from _X-Force_ Vol. #5, which released in 1991. Still has the vintage Toad costume in all its... uh... _whatever_ ness *but Toad's face, physique, intelligence, and attitude are all 90s.* I dunno if he'd be considered "attractive", but his face is all cleaned up and symmetrical. He's got a massive Joker like grin... but as his costume still has a kinda jester vibe to it and he _used_ to have awful teeth, this works to immediately separate him from his former self. His physique improved much like his face. He used to be some 250 lb. misshapen chonker, drawing clear inspiration from Quasimodo or perhaps Igor. Now he's *lean and flexible,* stealing moves from Spider-Man. As he suffered from depression and was very much Igor to Magneto's Dr. Frankenstein, his intellect and attitude are only subtle in that they're _less_ visible. Less? The facial expressions and posing at least _hint_ at what the dialog and actions in the stories would confirm. *This Toad **_leads_** the Brotherhood!* He's also their tactician and tech guy, IIRC. For better and worse: I don't remember this version of the team lasting too long or seeing a lot of success, *but* how much of that was supposed to reflect upon Toad isn't clear to me. Even in the 90s, you expected the bad guys to _mostly_ lose. I recall Toad having some success or making some good calls, only for them to be undermined by other events. Examples: Successfully killing Cannonball only to find out Cannonball was an External (immortal mutant subgroup), or Toad keeping Phantazia in reserve to ambush Quicksilver, only for Toad to find out Quicksilver wasn't on his own but was the advance scout for the then-current version of X-Factor (lead by Havok). >_< It is also worth noting that, when Magneto was having his Messiah complex and Exodus was gathering up mutants to evacuate to Avalon (formerly Asteroid M), the only Phantazia was offered a place. Toad and the rest of the Brotherhood were rejected, though Pyro might have qualified had he not already been infected by the Legacy Virus at this time. *Relax, I cannot go in depth for the rest.* I can just tell you that, after all the above changes were established for Toad *suddenly* he was back to his Silver Age self in an issue of _Generation X._ We'd see him get a glow up again elsewhere, and it was established his genetic structure either was (or perhaps still is) unstable. This led to him getting some of the powers of his movie counterpart. I never read the books myself, but the original _Ultimate Marvel_ imprint featured a Toad that either drew inspiration from or helped inspire the Fox films version. Probably the former given lead times for films versus comics. *There's also **_X-Men Evolution_** the X-Men cartoon* that ran from November of 2000 to October of 2003. Same deal; probably drew some inspiration from the then brand new Fox Film _X-Men_ (2000) and while he wasn't depicted as "cool" per se, he was no where near the mess of his Silver Age counterpart.
Pazuzu gives me huge Gargos vibes. Also that final boss is such BS. Not only can he interupt your throws with delayed fireballs in a WRESTLING GAME, but he can otg you as a follow up to any of his moves from any distance instantly. Because why give your final boss things like frames and hitboxes when they can just do instant damage from anywhere?
Rémi went to London to take revenge for the deportation of the Acadians? 🤨 They had the perfect opportunity for a bayou stage or New Orlean during Mardi Gras! Missed opportunities I guess 🤷♀️
More fighting games should let you play as a Hydra. BTW how does Primal Rage not have an arcade port on modern consoles? Hamster, I'm looking in your direction...
#1 Cast Autumn Ivy for the movie. #2 There was the X-Men Evolution Toa... no, not really #3 Hades 2 sure went in a different direction that I expected. Death to Cronus. #4 Youths! #5 Looks like something Max needs to play
i dunno if you have tried fighters impact. its a cool fighting game where you make your own combo and choose you fighting style. its called fighters impact from taito in JP and it was called VS. from THQ in the west. also try zero divide 1 and 2 as well. a mech fighting game. i dont see alot of ccs knowing about these games.
I love "Amazoness" it's so wonderfully magically redundant. Or wait...are there male identifying female amazons? Or maybe they/them amazons? Have we only been acknowledging the amazonesses and forgetting about the himazons and themazons?
How'd I miss _X-Men Mutant Academy_ for the Game Boy Color and N64? I was still a full-on X-Men fanboy at the time, *buuuut* I do remember being mad about Capcom no longer having the license so maybe that was it?

Oh shit, I actually played Mutant Fighter back in the day, at an arcade in Hawai'i!
Natsuki Crisis seems to be a manga lost to time, the game has a Wikipedia page but the manga and its creators don't. Super weird!
I always thought Gambit said “Credit card”!
“Gambit got plenty!”
They had the perfect opportunity for a bayou stage or New Orlean during Mardi Gras! Missed opportunities I guess 🤷♀️
oh man I remember that music from Mutant Fighter. :P
Pazuzu looks like the bird man alien from Gantz.
I'd be curious if you ever played a fightinga game called "Kensei: Sacred Fist"?
More fighting games should let you play as a Hydra.
BTW how does Primal Rage not have an arcade port on modern consoles? Hamster, I'm looking in your direction...
Its because PR is owned by Warner Bros, and they don't give A FUCK
@@flophouseplays Boo these people.
#1 Cast Autumn Ivy for the movie.
#2 There was the X-Men Evolution Toa... no, not really
#3 Hades 2 sure went in a different direction that I expected. Death to Cronus.
#4 Youths!
#5 Looks like something Max needs to play
Matt’s last words in life are going to be “why did I talk so much shit before!?” Probably as he’s taken out by archers like boromir
Always wanted Mutant Fighter as a kid. Never got it.
X-men: Super Turbo Genital Puncher.
Do you know what happens to a Game Boy when it's struck by lightning? The opposite of what happens to everything else.
i dunno if you have tried fighters impact. its a cool fighting game where you make your own combo and choose you fighting style. its called fighters impact from taito in JP and it was called VS. from THQ in the west. also try zero divide 1 and 2 as well. a mech fighting game. i dont see alot of ccs knowing about these games.
Turtleneck and chain sippin on a light beer.
SNK's Street Smarts was kind of cool..
Nux shitting on World Bearers for 5 minutes.
I love "Amazoness" it's so wonderfully magically redundant. Or wait...are there male identifying female amazons? Or maybe they/them amazons? Have we only been acknowledging the amazonesses and forgetting about the himazons and themazons?
I dunno, but its a cooler name then: "Fighter" Poor guy.
How'd I miss _X-Men Mutant Academy_ for the Game Boy Color and N64? I was still a full-on X-Men fanboy at the time, *buuuut* I do remember being mad about Capcom no longer having the license so maybe that was it?
Holy shit mutant fighter is awesome. A sword and sorcery wrestling game? Amazing. God damn it I miss Weaponlord.
Hay Matt have you ever played a game called Evil Zone for the PS1?
'90s comics toad and X-Men evolution toad, those two were cool toad examples
Wish we could get more 3D fighters today. Love Tekken, but the genre can't keep surviving through one series.
"Purple pants make you faster." 😂
The manliest attack of all.... A big ol' fart.
Please play de Saint Seiya games! The PS4 one Is the best, Soldiers Soul 😉
We need more beat um ups on a video please
My name is Harry [Hopkins]. I'm in town on vacation.
Can we get a decent indie 3D Fighter, the market has a lot of space.
Bless you
