Content like this is why I fell in love with the podcast. I know there are some who like it, but I’m sick to the back teeth of hearing about AEW and modern garbage.
I don’t mean to dampen the mood, but apparently Death fears Darby Allin
They're never gonna go back to the old format, Jim Cornette might not realize this but he's banked on the modern audience who are into "streamer" culture and reaction videos. Why do you think most of the videos start with "LISTENERS HAVE SENT THIS IN"? I can't take credit for this but when some call him wrestling pewdiepie it makes sense, he's the only one milking the "react" crowd. You'd be surprised how many only tune in in hopes of Cornette liking their "wrestler". They then foam at the mouth if he even slightly praises a wrestler he doesn't like and go "WARMS MY HEART JIM IS FINALLY COMING AROUND TO LIKING MY WRESTLER NOW I CAN PUBLICLY STATE I LOVE THE WRESTLER TOO"
That's pretty much the past few weeks with Omega in a nutshell 😂
Needs to be balanced. I prefer 80s/90s stuff too
@@smarkslowplay3512 yeah I totally understand why they cover contemporary stuff for views etc. But I’d love it to go back to being more balanced. They barely even take questions anymore
I always feel like Beautiful Bobby must have been such a great guy to be around and call a friend, never a negative story ever
Every time I saw him at the NWA/WCW shows beginning in 1990, he was always so calm & nice to talk to.
He seemed like the guy you could hang at the bar with, or go fishing with and have a great time.
Family man and a generally good dude
Bill Watts with the Flock of Seagulls haircut , posed with Corny in his Thriller jacket needs to be a t shirt ! Especially with the big MTV/ Mid South logo ! Damn you Heckel ! You cracked me up again ! Travis is irreplaceable . The guests artist are fantastic as well , but something about this art and this show work so well .
It's so insane how experienced Jim is and how knowledgeable Brian is about the business and history of wrestling.
***THIS IS THE PART OF THE SHOW THAT IS ABSOLUTE GOLD. HOW HE KEPT THIS KIND OF DETAIL IN INCREDIBLE. IT'S ALMOST LIKE RELIVING HISTORY.***
I've always loved Jim's comment about lawsuits in Louisiana;
"You can't sue the city in the most crooked state in the country."
Hearing the inside stories on the commissions, knowing and paying off the right people is fascinating.
I don’t t think people really appreciate or know how old school what he’s talking about really means. Arkansas roads are the worst in America, Oklahoma is a weird stop light double lane in the middle of nowhere, etc.
A time most will never know.
Same with Louisiana. Worst roads I've ever driven on.
When I moved to Texas back in 2017, from the east coast, Arkansas roads were the worst I had ever seen in the US. Then I went to New Mexico for the first time and there are 3rd world countries with better roads.
I've seen tumbleweeds driving though one street towns in Oklahoma.
God damn i love hearing about the old venues and hostile crowds that sh*t never gets old. Jim, i fkn love you man you're the cool uncle i never had.
This is what we need! Wrestling talk. We all know AEW is a terrible promotion.
"Thriller" Corny! Where's Vincent Price, Haha! 👍
Flock of seagulls Bill Watts is hilarious 😂
That Travis Heckel drawing LMAO
"Hey you, flock of seagulls. You know why we're here"? - Samuel Jackson 😂
Samuel L Jackson meeting Stone Cold: "Say what again!" 😂
Greg meeker was a bug stain in Hollywood, nothing more. Just ask mickey rourke.
Everyone remembers flock of seaguls. Case closed
A Flock of Watts?
Watts of seagulls. Too easy
Thank God!! Fuck the wrestling today!! We want the stories
Haha I just realized the MTV logo said mid south. Bravo!
These kind of segments are the reason why I listen to this podcast
We need more of this!
Always a learning experience about history through the eyes of one who was there and kept a great record of it as they experienced it. So crazy how much, even in the past 20 years, how much it changed.
I can't help but wonder how Jim would sound going "Eeeeeeee Heeeeeeee!" "Shamo!"
I could go for some more guess the program, it's been a while.
These are my favorite segments.
This and Guess The Program. Wish they’d do more of those.
Another 🔥🔥🔥🔥 thumbnail by Travis
Immediately after giving a thumbs-up for the, 'Flock of Seagulls' hair in the thumbnail--straight to the comments.
These were great road stories in just January alone! I can't wait to hear the rest of the months road stories and the arenas you all worked in and it is just exciting to her all this! This was when wrestling was what kept fans like me glued to the television set and as great to be able to see not just one, but multiple territories from the Northeast where I got to see not only the WWF, but Mid South, WCW NWA, AWA, and others using what we had back then called a "Scrambler" which was similar to today's cable where you can watch 100's of channels across the country while back then you were stuck watching only the cable in your area. I was a little kid in the mid 80's but loved wrestling since the first match I can remember at 4 years old when the match was with the Wild Samoans Afa and Sika who scared the hell out of me by looking like these two huge monsters with the hair and spoke no English and it was great! That as when I got hooked and saw all the wrestling territories on television and not just in the magazines that I still have kept all these years neatly and safe in boxes!
I found out recently that Barry Darsow came up with the Repo Man himself as he used to be a repo man in real life.
Wrestlers can come up with stupid gimmicks too.
Paul bearer was actually a mortician before being booked as one
Still bizarre to me that these hillbillies believed it to be real in 1984 to try to harm heels. I was 12 and knew it was not real. All you had to do was watch the television program and see punches miss and the opponent sell it. Every show!
When I was 4 I started watching wrestling and boxing. The slow, stomp punching and the inability to escape certain moves(figure 4, Irish whip) made me question wrestling as well.
Agreed
Bill Watts with the "Flock of Seagulls" haircut MUST go in the Travis Heckel Hall of Fame.
Jim and brian talking about classic wrestling always makes my day lol keep them coming this is so much better than AEW in it's current and boring state thanks guys lol.
So... you're saying it's all great 🛎️
@@accursedsidor8987LMAO you got me with that one 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
JIM CORNETTE AS KOKO WARE IS AWESOME
I’m up in Northern Ontario and our roads are way more challenging due to hills, rocks, lakes, multiple curves , and winter . So it must of been an easy transition for our wrestlers that came from our old territory to that part of the country such as “The Patriot” Bobby Hart, The Garvins and Precious, and of course Maurice Vachon who was our 1st regional champion in the early 50’s.
A wonderful hour to kill at work listening to Jim!
I would go to the shows in Lake Charles as a kid. I remember the shows being packed and really wild crowds.
So glad you guys did this
Well, this is just what I wanted to see today. 😂
Ha! I stayed in that same La Quinta in OKC.
I love all stories about Bobby just talking. I remember Corny talking about the, "I wanna talk to y'all about a plane ride" before and it's just as funny now as it was then!
If I ever have to talk to an airline for tickets that's exactly how I'm gonna start. 😂
Its incredible he kept all these records and notes. Actually inspiring for me to do the same to have more memories later on in life, but I'm also not living a lifestyle as interesting as a traveling wrestling manager in the territory days lol
Demolition needs to be in the WWE Hall of Fame before they die of old age.
That won't happen till Vince dies. Bill and Barry along with Jesse Ventura still own their names and likeness. I just heard recently that Jesse has signed a Legends deal so with Vince being forced out there is some hope I guess
Is Demolition still actively involved in the concussion lawsuit against the company? If not and with Vince gone, it'll probably happen sooner rather than later
@@chico1680 I forget all about the lawsuit,as far as I know it's dead. It got thrown out and then the lost the appeal so it's dead as far as I know. I know that Bill Eadie owns the demolition trademarks and likenesses. Him and Randy Colley came up with it and somehow they never signed anything with Vince. Bill left and started doing Indy shows and comic cons as demolition and was selling merchandise. WWE claimed they owned it and sent a cease and desist. Bill took them to court and they said that he co owns it with Vince and is allowed to use it. Vince was pissed off and is holding a grudge. I know there has been heat with Jesse for ever because he had the sense to trademark his stuff when he was still in AWA. He also some how avoided ever singing a talent contract until after he had done the predator movie. That's is the reason Sgt. Slaughter left in 85-86 or whenever he did. He owned his stuff and got the deal with Hasbro for the GI Joe toys and cartoons. When he came back Vince made him sign all of his rights over to WWF.
Whenever Michael Jackson is referenced in a thumbnail for this channel it's an automatic view. I remember Cornette saying he went to one of his concerts and is a fan, minus denying the... "unsavory" things about MJ.
What video is this? There's no way Corny would be at a Jackson Stadium show, with 80,000 people crammed all together and people fainting from dehydration.. Although, If I had to guess, It's more likely Corny saw Mike in the 70s as a youngin himself & then that would be The Jackson 5 and not a solo MJ concert, still a chaotic scene, but way less pandemonium than what the concerts would become in the 1980s.
@ghostprotocol89 He didn't say, but it's an episode from around 2019 I think. He only briefly mentioned it. I could be mistaken, but Kenny Bolin may have been in the interview as well.
Hacksaw Higgins was used in KC
This is the interesting stuff
Keeping continuity straight when television's behind but spot shows chug along behind sounds like a chore. It's bad enough when an actor ad libs or a wrestler decides then and there to do something different which changes the entire nature of the story or program, but at least then I might be able to rely on the director saying "cut", another wrestler getting him in line or at least be able to course correct from there if it's not the end.
It'd be worse today with the advent of phone cameras and high speed internet. No one does as many spot shows anymore, but imagine the booker burnouts if anyone was.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My favorite segment
Smash becoming repo man was a serious mind fudge when I found out as a kid.
Fascinating stuff! Even at that point, the payoffs were very good so why the need to constantly drive back to Alexandria after shows? Staying overnight in some of these towns would surely have helped with the gruelling schedule.
Just to give a theory:
If the towns are so hot, and the fans are intent on doing bodily harm, and the cops aren't under orders to be there beyond the matches... why stick around and get in some trouble?
I think for people who may have done some criminal things, knowingly, the idea of a hide-out (or safe/base/crib) is self-explanatory, but understandably not everyone is thinking on the hustle/carny/criminal side of things. A colloquialism for this would be "don't sh*t where you eat".
I'd say this definitely had something to do with it along with the fact that certain dates were 200 miles one way with the next date 200 miles the other, therefor a centralized home point works as a nice stop-over.
Didn't Darsow do a gimmick of the week thing in the closing days of WCW Saturday Night? Hole-in-one Darsow!
Mr. Hole In One
almost 3 hours for one month. gdamn son
Does anyone tune in for the new stuff?
Storytime is back.
1984 Mid South good times thanks for taking us back Jim
Security outside the locker rooms would make it even better
This is the good stuff
