This is the good stuff. I'm pretty burned out on the AEW reviews because the show itself has become boring and uninteresting. Never thought I'd say that the acid fever dream shitshow that Dynamite has been for so long would become completely boring, but here we are. I find the WWE reviews 'to be slightly more interesting because I enjoy those shows somewhat. I'm really hrilled though when we get stuff like the clip a few months back where Cornette talked about the first few years of Lawler's career, Guess the Program, or this type of content where we hear about his cateet
Almost 90 Minutes of Cornette talking about his Territory Days in Pro Wrestling is the perfect thing to listen to in a dark room when dealing with a migraine at 4am.
I'm really enjoying these mid-south videos keep them coming i love it when jim and brian talk about old school wrestling especially since i wasn't born yet.
Putting Drano in water guns and trying to squirt Skandor Akbar in the eyes. Looking back to a time before kayfabe got exposed and before everybody sitting on a computer started thinking they are in the biz, it's like another planet. Might as well be 500 years ago.
Lol I've thought about similar things like this alot, like I've heard and seen old footage of a fan coming in to defend a baby face getting jumped. I know kayfabe was strong but it seems people were not very smart only a couple decades ago. I know there's still alot of dumb people today but these folks almost seem barbaric brains
It’s less a kayfabe thing and more of a security thing post 9/11. I’ve been alive for 25 years and they’ll confiscate anything gun shaped, laser pointers, signs with foul language, cameras that aren’t a phone, the pack of cigs / vape you forgot was in your pocket, your gfs pepper spray she would use on the mugger yall bump into waking to your car, think your plastic earplugs are somehow non metallic ammunition,
Had a staph infection in my armpit just like that once. Most painful thing I’ve ever felt. They drained it at urgent care and I was on antibiotics and had to use an antiseptic skin cleanser when I showered for a full month. I still have an indent in my skin there where the abscess formed.
I love these recaps of events that happened during this time. I was just getting into wrestling as a 4-5 year old, and conjures a lot of nostalgia. I hope Jim brings back Name The Program
52:13 Corny flubbing Fergie’s name twice in a row made me laugh probably more than I should’ve. It feels like the JC version of Vikingo trying a top rope backflip three times before getting it.😅
Vince McMahon was not the only visionary of making pro wrestling main stream. Bill Watts had that vision too with starting with Louisiana & Mississippi then adding Arkansas and Oklahoma then Paul Bosch’s Houston territory then invading DFW before the oil bust began and that was it .
I listen to about 16 minutes of this before I looked at the episode number and realized how old it was. I've heard it before I think I'll listen to it again anyway.
This is only the second time I’ve listened to this channel. I’m really digging it! Corbett’s and the Midnight express were my favorite team back in those days.
These comments prove how popular & needed this is! For all that prefer this side of the podcast, it's simple: stop asking stupid questions about Orange Cassidy & Moxley!!!
Good man ... pro wrestling history is greatest of any sport/ entertainment. I'm 50...used to watch corny since 85 in wccw. Met him once at a show I wrestled on in 2007.
Some footage from Magnum TA getting tarred and feathered is on UA-cam, and you can see Corny trying to find a comfortable position to keep his arm from touching the side of his body.
After listening to the first 10 minutes or so, I had to pause the video for this comment. This is why Corny is one of the best historians of wrestling. Why his notes are so good. Having to keep your story lines straight while traveling all those miles, based on what current taping was being viewed in the area your performing in. Adjusting the promo's, the live show, what finishes to use, based on areas being weeks apart in the story lines! Just awesome!
I love these "deep dives" stories Jim does. It gives wrestling fans (new or old) a perspective from Jim's experience with how the territory was run and the pay offs etc etc. Really interesting stories.
Since it’s where I’m from, I always get a kick out of hearing Jim talk about Little Rock. It’s also pretty cool to hear him talk about Barton Coliseum, considering the fact that my college graduation ceremony was there this past Saturday. I couldn’t stop thinking about all the old school wrestling that used to happen right where I was sitting. It was pretty cool.
@positively_broad_st3780 stupid on my part. Lol. I was thinking maybe the 1984 version was more caustic than what we have today and packaged differently.
For the record, I'm legally blind. I tell people this after knowing them for a while and they are surprised. And, sometimes even my wife and kids need to be reminded when I'm asked to do stuff that is too difficult for me to see and I get mad and remind them. I only mention this to say that I laughed at what you said about it. Why? Because I'm not a soft little shit who takes offense at everything. People need to know how to laugh at themselves as well as others. That's how life works.
Growing up in Crockett territory, I was mostly a fan of the heels, with a few exceptions, but man I remember the heat the heels had and tons of girls screaming for the babyfaces. Hearing Jim tell these stories really takes me back.
I remember discovering Mid-South on the TV as young lad. Legit tough guys beating on each other. First wrestler I ever witness have a finisher was Jake the Snake & The DDT. Midnight Express vs Rock n Roll on a scaffold match.
There's so many similarities between wrestlers and ironworkers. Both travel to small territories, sometimes out of state. Ironworkers have to deal with new contractors like bookers. And after a short training period, you better be able to pull your weight or you'll get run off. Both have the opportunity to make hundreds of thousands of dollars. Both have larger than life stories of the strongest, toughest men you've ever known. Both have stories for days on women, booze and drugs. Both are dangerous. Both have a somewhat brotherhood. Obviously there's no TV or promos in real life. In my mind, ironworkers are like the pro wrestlers of the real world. Yo, this strain has my brain hummin', dawg.
I have been heavily infected before but not like your pit zit. Imagine the opening of Beverly hillbillys, where Jed shoots the oil vein. Literally imagine the way the oil spills out of the ground. But instead of oil, picture very brown cottage cheese. Cottage cheese just gently flowing out of my belly. My nurse hates me that day
I’m from bunkie and went to the matches at the Rapides parish coliseum. My first match was when I was 2 and the missing link came in the crowd and scared me I ran away and my pawpaw had to bring me to the car
Short answer: JC doesn't want to and while I think WWE could get behind the idea, they're dealing with too many controversial scandals at the moment that taking a chance that the IWC trolls start rallying antiJC venom isnt worth the risk
Another thing I remember is during the sting cactus Jack lights out match jack was getting heat on sting and he stood in the middle of the ring and hogged the biggest loogy in the air and caught it in his mouth then sting made his comeback.
Finally. Cornette has COME BACK to classic wrestling!!!!!
Doesn't draw the "reaction" crowd though.
@lbo87 I get that, but I like this content also.

And why do you think Clinton lives there!
Jim Cornette’s 1984 Mid South Promo has more views on UA-cam than AEW
I prefer these old school recaps to the new stuff

Jim, you're closer to Yoko Ono than Ringo.
Can we get a third show where they just talk about old school wrestling for a couple hours?
"It wasn't his gimmick, it was HIS LIFE"
".... stahp it" 🤭
You know you've got best buds when they try to pop your arm pit zit with you. Respect
Dude that blood poison is no joke. Jim you're lucky you lived buddy.
Why have they not made Jim's storytelling into a movie yet could listen to these stories all day
Far less people care about this than the AEW talk sadly. Not sure why everyone is such a mark for hearing about that company.
